no, the tree peony blooms earleir and does not have the scent of the common one which come a bit later and yes, they are very hardy, do not think the like very hot weather
My children were here for dinner, had chicken soup, salad with celerey root,, baked pork chops rapped in foil with onion, sweet pepper and pineapple slices, cauliflower with a fresh dill sauce. For dessert, and I am certain you have had it before, whipped cream on chocolate wavers and refrigerated for a few hours, used to make it quite often way back, lol
Sheila you Iris is lovely along with the Solomon seal
Haver been looking for a moon flower don't seem to find one.

Hi people,
I01, that's a nice looking foliage plant--and it even looks sort of familiar-- but I'm afraid that I can't help ID that one. Your moonflower is looking good and the trellis is cute, but way too short, I'm afraid. Mine climbed a five foot fence, went down the other side, then started to reach out and climb anything else it could grab hold of. One of my brothers planted some and they climbed up to the roof of his two-storey house!
Maria, yes, I remember that dessert. I have a hard time finding those plain chocolate wafers anymore, but that's okay since DM is on a low-fat diet and we don't do much whipped cream here anymore. My grandmother used to make "Surprise Cookies" which were softish vanilla cookies with a mint chocolate Rockwell wafer hidden inside. I can't find those chocolates anymore either.
D'cat, sorry about the funeral mess-up and the non-responsive church hierarchy. Thanks for the up-date on DR. I'm not terribly surprised to hear it, but hope that it didn't make her feel guilty for taking her trip. I remember that he "promised" to still be there when she got back, but hope that she realizes that he really didn't want her to miss Hawaii.
Darius, hope you avoid that nasty cold! I'm wondering if the OTC med was that "Airborne" stuff. I know some people swear by it , but haven't tried it myself. Glad (if a bit envious!) that everything still seems to be going well on the acquisition of your new property.
Mary, hope your getting better by the minute. Sorry to hear about the poor calf. Hope you can find a "foster calf" for the cow. Very happy to hear how well the new windows are working out. On the subject of a "hubby garden helper" --- mmmm, often a mixed blessing at best! My DH got the lawn mower out, which is a good thing since the "lawn" (probably more weeds than grass) has reached a new high due to all the rain. Of course he also cut down some of my flowers in the process. At least he hasn't tried to prune anything lately. (He likes to tell people about how he "pruned" an apple tree --- was quite proud of the good job he did-- then watched as it went "creak, CREAK, THUD".)
M5, love the iris. They're one of my favorites (and it doesn't hurt at all that they pretty much take care of themselves!). I have a load of regular purple ones blossoming now at my store. The huge white ones and the black ones should be popping out of the bud stage soon as well. I'll try to get a picture of them.
Sarv, glad you're enjoying your vacation --- but you call that "Camping"? LOL! I still have one of those little dome type tents up in the crawl space and my sleeping bag, back pack, and tiny propane stove. I suppose I ought to get rid of that stuff as there's likely no way I'll ever get my DH to actually go camping (he says that his idea of camping is a Hilton Hotel), but I used to really enjoy it and hate to give in to never doing it again. (Not too sure how well I'd manage sleeping on the ground --- or getting up OFF the ground, come to that.) I'd still like to try it at least once more though.
Janis (Woofens), those raccoon babies are sooo cute, I'm sure I'd fall for them too, but I've heard that they can be quite a nightmare if you try to keep them as pets. They can get into just about anything because of their "hands". I remember many years ago hearing about a woman who had a pet raccoon coming home to find that her pet, having gotten PO'd about something, had opened all her cabinets and tossed her china all over the kitchen. If you check the Wildlife forum, there were at least a couple of threads last year dealing with this subject. Due to ever-present CRS, I can't give you the names of the people involved, but I remember that one woman has re-habbed many baby raccoons and let them loose near her home where there is sufficient woodlands to support them. Many of them come around to visit and get some treats. About your dilemma with your son, the only thing I can think of is to ask if you've checked whether or not there are any organizations, agencies, etc. that might help him find a Summer job nearer to home?
Molly, ouch, hope that your son was extra nice to you to make up for that accident! Please be careful! Your place is looking better every day --- can't wait to see the Orchid House completed and full of vegetation. I love orchids, but have never dared buy a single one. I'm terrible with inside plants.
I know that I haven't managed to address everyone (and I wouldn't be at all surprised if a few more had posted since I started typing this.), but DH has just come home and I really should see that he gets something to eat, etc. ~~~~~to pati, joyous, dmcd, lauriwilson, suzieq, balvenie (for your sake, I hope it isn't REALLY "Pungent Sound"!), and all our friends who have been absent today.
Goodnight and sweet dreams!
Well, I am back again, after supper, went to bible study, came home changed clothes, and tackled that trailer load of mulch. Got 5 beds done, and will finish it tomorrow. Please think of me as I struggle to get out of bed tomorrow morning. 101, more than half of that load is on the beds, you said it would take 2 days!! DH did help a bit, but not much, he was more concerned with getting the trailer unhooked from the truck, so that he could hook up to the boat trailer for tomorrow's fishing trip! And while I was shoveling, he decided he needed to saddle DGD horse, and ride to check on 2 other horses in the back pasture. This was accomplished after he had visited every neighbor to show off the horse. Add horses to the motors etc that men enjoy.
I finally got a return call from preacher's supervisor. I told him his latest trick, skipping out on the funeral, and he is going to contact the family and apologize. Then I imagine that my preacher will receive a dressing down. I also told him that he visited DMIL once and she was in the hospital from December 29 to March 6. We have a lady who was burned badly in a house fire 3 weeks ago, is in a burn center about an hour away, and he has yet to visit her. I say how can a church grow without leadership.
Well, my eyes are beginning to close, so I will cut this short, and say Nite John Boy.
~~~waving to all I didn't comment to. Please keep DaisyRuffles in your T&P.
