It's a brand new day. Have some coffee and conversation before you're off to your chores.
We came from over here http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/606109/
Coffee and.........May 24, Wednesday
Home from the campground again!! I kinda like this....come home and putz around, DH picks me up at 2pm and we cruise back for the evening activiites!! Last night one of the younger gals sid she had a huge salad that she wanted to share - oh my - it was a keeper - I got the recipe....
I've had to sleep with DH in the trailer and it is going reasonably well. I've only had to jab him a handful of times and he hasn't barked at me to 'stop kicking'!! LOL May have to give the old bed a try back home.
Our temps are continuing to increase and I still have a load in the greenhouse..so I'll be busy today again!! I did put messenger on everything yesterday and expected to come home and see miraculous growth - nothing changed. How long before that stuff kicks in?? Much of my stuff has a pale sickly look to it - especially the brugs- the leaves a practically yellow!! I know it needs something, but don't know what!! Help!!
Defoe - oh that would burn me about the minister not showing up...What in the world was that guy thinking!! At my uncles funeral, the minster kept calling him by the wrong name. After the first gasp, we had to bite our tongues not to laugh. He must have said the wrong name 20 x's
Molly - ouch- bong on the head - that's not good! Did Jeremy give the lumber a push? LOL
Kooger- hope all continues on the upswing for K. So hard when there is a little one involved.
Who's wearing heels?? I never could walk on them when I was a young chick...so I've seldom if ever worn them. Felt like I was walking on stilts...no thanks - I need my feet on terra firma. In the winter I wear merrills and in the summer birkenstocks. Haven't worn any other shoes for several years and my feet feel great- that reminds me, I need some new birks...
Well, CRS is hitting, so I'll sign off, get on my grubs and get my hands dirty
Molly-Nobody is supposed to use the 2x4 unless we send it! Sorry about the head bonk. I was recently thinking about both steel toed shoes and hard hats (at the farm where things are liable to fall off the underside of the house onto your head). We seem to be accident prone lately.
sarv-I like your part time camping idea! It's way too busy a garden time to be gone for days! it's warm here and brilliantly sunny (YAY) so I imagine things in the GH will get steamed.
defoecat-wow on the first DS marriage. Tough growing up like that!
Hi all, WOW isn't wonderful to get outside! Only thing is I can't walk in the evening, you would think I would get used to it.
Love the chatter, sorry about the rollover and the dropped board, ouch. Hope, so sad about the kittens. DD just lost one out of a litter, the momma just pushed it aside.
Am going garden touring in a few minutes. One to look and Oooo and Aaah the other is my best friend and she is putting her house up for sale and said I can have whatever I want from her gardens. I wonder if I can tow her whole yard here and overlay it in parts of mine!!!!!!! A fun thought.
Defoe, speaking of strawberry shortcake I like it with baking powder type biscuits and dh likes it with ice cream. Ds will only eat them fresh picked (by me of course). Have a small patch left in the veg garden covered in bloom. Was going to dig it and move to a new spot up but will wait till we enjoy the pickins!
Have opened the gh as wide as I can and taken as much out as I can for the day........it is getting way to hot in there but then to cool at night to leave everything out. Sure beats sitting in the window watching it snow and blow though.
Have a great day....~~~~~~~~~to all,
by the way.....Bal, just love the arbor!
Joy
Ohhhhh,,,,,,, I'm up but barely conscious. After my nice nap yesterday i couldn't fall asleep last night, last time I looked at the clock it was 3:30 then I woke up again when DH got up, and again when he came in to take his shower. My head feels like it's full of air! Maybe the coffee will wake me.
And it's cloudy and maybe going to rain! Drat! Teach me to lose a day of sunshine.
Mind is a total blank. Going to hit the shower and hope for improvement, see you later.
Sheila
Morning all... must be the day for bad nights.... I was on the phone til after 2 AM with mornin_gayle and lauriwilson. LOLOL we woke up DH. I got to sleep about 3, woke up at 5 when DH went to work and the 4 yr old crawled in bed, alarm went off at 7:45, and my head feels like 10 pounds of something in a 5 pound bag :(( Coons and the little one are still asleep so i'm gonna take a couple tylenol and crawl back in bed a bit.
Called the Wildlife Dept yesterday, will onlt cost $25 a year for my permit to keep the raccoons as pets :) Application is on its way
Will try to post later.... its a bit busy around here!
Huggers and ~~~~ to all
Janis
Good morning every one still very chilly out o fdoors and cloudy too
Sarv, I am wearing heels, orthopedic surgeon prescribed it for the sciatica problem I have, and let me tell you it helped a lot! Of course cannot wear them gardening but I do wear clogs with a 1 heel
Edited to say,
High heels are nice, right Darius? lol lol

Morning everyone
Wow y'all sure start chattering *early*! LOL I can't get my brain working that early. I must have been exhausted cause I went to bed at 11 and didn't get up until 8:30. Can't remember when I've slept that long. Of course I made several trips during the night :) Never sleep *sound* anymore.
sarv what a neat idea for camping. The best of both worlds I'd say.
Hey Lauri ... now aren't you lucky to have a neighbor to adopt plants from? I hear of people having this sort of luck all the time, but it never happens to me. Well, actually, I have had a couple of *very* nice people help me get my garden started here at DG. :) Every time I walk outside I see something that came from someone. Thanks Darius! *smile*
Defoe did you ever get a return call? I'm not believing that about the funeral. And as far as heels and dress clothes ... I guess I'm weird but I love to dress up on Sunday's. Now don't get me wrong. when you come to my house you'll find me all bummy, but I still just love to put on hose and heels and a pretty dress occasionally.
Woofens, sure hope everything goes well with your paperwork.
Hi Maria. You haven't mentioned Samson lately. I'm guessing by this he hasn't been a nauty boy? :-)
dmc sure hope you're okay today and not suffering any ill affects from your incident the other day.
Ouch Molly! Do be more careful! sarv is right ... you are only suppose to use the 2X4 when *we* send it! LOL
Well, I'm waving to you McCool, Ann, Mary, Hope, Kooger and the rest of the gang. Need to get up from here and get started today. Hope everyone has a great day in the garden ... but *be safe* ! LOL
~Elaine~
Good morning folks, have been up for hours, but did a garden walk, pulled out the tomatos that will go in the garden today. Put mighty plant on everything,made tags for the toms that will go in today. Transplanted some petunias. I have four rail planters on my deck, and was gonna empty them and fill again with new dirt. Well guess what, I got a gazillion little tunias, so gonna wait until next year to refresh the dirt. They will have to be thinned out later, but just watering for now so I can get them big enough to do something with.
Molly, ouch, I hope that you can finish this project without more mishaps!!
sarv, that is the only way I would camp, just sleep there, then come home. I definately wouln't do a tent. Too many creepy things that I don't want to share sleeping place with. No I have not had a return call. So just as soon as I sign off, gonna give it another try.
101, yes, I like to dress for church, but need to do some shopping so I can look decent. Gosh, I haven't had a night's sleep like that for a long time. Sometimes the body is just telling us to slow down, so it can catch up, The cornflowers are picked, tied and hanging in my winter coat closet. Just hope DH doesn't need anything from there. He suspects I am unbalanced, but this would only validate his theory.
Meezer, Woofens, did yall get into some spirits last night. That's the way I feel after imbibing. Hope it wears off, and you gain a level of consciousness during the day. Woofens, great going on the apps.
Joyous, take all the stuff, then you can share here on coffee and.... I'm sure everybody would pay postage.
Maria, I thought you were going to say that you even wear heels to garden in! That would look sort of funny. When I retired, after being used to wearing heels everyday, it took forever for the muscles in the calf of my legs to get used to the difference in heights of shoes.
~~~~to everybody else, so back out to see what I can find to do. All I have to do is look, cause there sure is lotss there to do, it's just deciding what is most important.
Good morning. Are you all awake now? Have you thought about buying stock in a coffee company?
It's a sunny morning with some clouds here and there. Yesterday was beautiful and I was in town most of the day. After I got the groceries put away it was time to start dinner, and when hubby came home I asked him if it was raining between town and our place, he said no, so I didn't worry about getting the lawn mowed. Half an hour later here came the rain and there went the posibility of mowing. However, today is another day and I might get to do it this afternoon. Meanwhile, laundry, weeding, planting a few things. There is always something, well, lots of somethings.
Darius, I have a question for you about windows. We got several new ones and I want to know what all the numbers on the label mean. U-Factor (U.S./I-P) 0.32, Solar Heat Gain Coefficient 0.27, Visible Transmittance 0.50 . Translate for me, please. The kitchen window is easy on the eyes even with the sun shining directly on it, and not much heat comes through. We always had to pull the shade on the old window and it still felt hot when we were near it. The largest window is in the living room, on the east side of the house where it gets the early sun, that was always a challenge to keep the heat out using miniblinds. I can see that the new windows will keep the house cooler in the summer, plus we will be able to see outside and not feel like we are in a cave until about noon.
I'll be back later, right now I have a lot of stuff I need to start doing.
Mary, the U factor is similar to the R factors in insulation, just an inversion. R2 would be U0.5, so your windows have about the amount of insulation value of slightly more than 1 inch of fiberglas insulation.
VT (visual transmission) means how much light you get through the window. 50% or more is pretty clear, requiring less inside light.
SGGC is a relatively new measurement. Your numjbers mean that 27% of available solar incidence passes through the glass. SHGC of 0.55 and above is recommended in the chilly north. Low numbers like yours mean less AC in summer and more needed heat in winter because you don't get enough solar gain in winter.
SGGC is more important than the U factor as long as the window is tight from infiltration.
Morning......I think. I too feel like....well ya get it. the 3 way conversation with MG and Woofens was a blast we talked forever last nite and then I had a time getting to sleep, LOL and now getting awake.
I have read everything from today and cannot remember squat so ~~~"s to all and I have to go get a new swamp cooler and see if DH is going to install it this weekend or if it's going to be me....
bbl, so everyone have a great, dirty, gardening day...:-)..............Lauri
LOL I see I was still asleep when I typed my earlier post! Hi Lauri ... I was talkin to you and you weren't *even* up yet! Joy, it was you getting plants from a friend and dmc who said not to use the 2X4 unless it was sent! Oh well ... guess either CRS had set in or the brain was just dead. :)
Okay, at least I caught my mistakes! LOL Am headed to find something to eat.
~~~
Elaine
Taking a sweat break - I am dripping.... Planted almost all the annuals that were in the greenhouse, but still have 10 flats under the deck.....oh dear.... Just sticking in my tall dahlias, but had to come in the house for some paper/pencil so I know where I put things. The lazy boy looked so inviting, so decided to take a 15 min break.
Defoe- we have a very nice trailer - no tents for me!! We have a micro, shower, queen bed, padded chairs, couch, dining table/chairs, frig,/freezer and a bump out. We started out mighty small, but everytime we get a new rig, we get a better one!! This one should be our last one (paid for etc.)
Maria, I've never seen a tree peony...how tall does it get? I have the standard old peonies - the kind that bloom beautifully and then a rain storm hits and they are on the ground LOL Glad the heels work for your siaticia.
what do you gals have- three way calling?? that is bad being on the phone until 3am - just like teenagers...
We are camping with three teens -two of which graduate tonight. It is fun listening to them - but glad I am not at the stage of raising kids yet. The younger of the three is in 10th grade and not doing well - just can't seem to remember to get her work turned in. Think her parents are ready to use the 2x4!! LOL
Well, my time is up,so I need to mosey back outside for some more dirt work.
Morning folks.
Bad morning here, my sister is home sick... coughing, fever, runny/stuffed nose. I'm afraid she's contagious, and I'm so susceptible since I have compromised lungs. I don't even want to be in the same room with her. She's stubborn, won't even take some Vitamin C. Guess I'd better take some right now in advance.
Slogging away on a list of priorities on the new place, and trying to figure what I can cram in my truck since I'll be there by myself (plus cat) for as much as 2 weeks until the bus gets there with the first load... which does not include any furniture, not even a bed. I'll need a telephone, TV, some kitchen stuff, clothes & bedding, computer, some tools and the tender plants have to go with me.
My furniture comes on the second load, hopefully the same weekend as the first load. My stuff in storage is only a 5 hour drive each way.
I can borrow Bruce's 5' x 8' unenclosed trailer for my trip. But then I'd have to find someone to stay with halfway and I don't know a soul in middle Georgia. I fear stuff would get stolen in a motel lot.
Plus, I haven't backed up a trailer in years... don't know if I still remember how. You shoulda seen me learning to back up the boat trailer years ago!
http://nccam.nih.gov/research/results/echinacea_rr.htm
Darius, I don't know if this would help or not. When I went on a cruise to Alaska my friend and I were both showing signs of a cold. She had some kind of OTC that we took and the colds never developed. I this it had this in it.
Pati
Thanks, Pati. I have some Echinacea (somewhere) and can run to the drugstore if necessary. That works, and so does zinc, pref. in lozenge form.
Darius, take 'em both!!! Catching something at this stage of the game would just be terrible.
Pati
Up again, fed the babies... tried to sleep, even called the babysitter to see if she could come over. My DS 15 will be home in about 2 hours, he is taking over care of the babies and kids, I'm sleeping. Geez, this is worse than a hangover! Need to call MG, see how she is feeling. I don't wish a headache on anyone ...but if she is all happy and chipper I might have to say something mean LOL
Sarv, yes to 3 way calling. I have it, and I'm sure MG has it on her cell, if Lauri had it we could add up to 6 people! LOL what a riot.
Darius, don't get sick. I think I'm getting a sinus thing happening, gonna start my vitamin c this evening. I was doing pretty good had been about 3 weeks without one, which is unheard of for me.
I really need to do some laundry and fold clean clothes, but all I want to do is curl up on the couch (which is buried in clean laundry LOL I need to get outside, cause it is beautiful today but my sunglasses are in my car, which is 2 hours away at work with Jeff. I hate only having 1 car. I really need to go to the bank, but its not gonna happen til probably saturday. He is on 10 hour shifts this week, Mon to Fri instead of his usual 2 on 2 off 12 hour shifts. Any other week, I could have gone on his off days. Its just typical that his car breaks down the week I really need mine.
The kids last day of school is tomorrow :(( Time to up my medication LOL DS 15 isn't going to pass, so its either summer school, do his freshman year over, or an online school thing our district offers. He can do his freshman and most if not all of his sophmore year next school year if we do that. He came in and asked me about it last night. I need to call the school and ask about it. He says he doesn't want to go back to HS next year. He just really doesn't fit in. He is so immature in some ways, but to speak to him, like on the phone, you would think he is an adult. The kids at school just don't understand him because of it. His sense of humor is very adult and dry (I don't mean like vulgar adult, I hope you understand) and most of the time the things he says go way over his classmates friends. The teachers think he is hilarious, which makes the kids think he is intentionally talking above their heads. It is a sad situation. He also wants to go back to my mom's for the summer so he can go to work, but the way my mom and I get along, I am not sure I want him there :( He can walk to a job doing odd jobs for a lady from mom's but I would have to drive him every day, and I can't afford to, the gas would take all he makes :( I'm really afraid that mom and her troll husband would try to turn him against me, or something equally stupid like trying to get custody. He and I have enough problems on our own without outside interference.
Sorry for the long whine... I'll try to post again later
~~ to all..... my brain can't remember who is going through what... so hugs to everyone LOL
Janis
Thanks, Elaine. I can't justify stopping after just 5 hours driving... that would make my trip 3 days instead of 2 with a cat in the back... but it could come to that, LOL.
Woofy, what do you mean START the Vit C? I take 500mg Vit C with Rose Hips twice a day. It's the timed release kind, otherwise it just goes in the potty. I have had sinus problems since I was 5 and a cold just knocks me out. I haven't had a cold in 3 years (knock on wood). I don't know if it's the Vit C or not, but if it aint broke, don't change it!! It's cheap and apparently effective.
Pati
PS Darius, I hear IO1 is a great cook! Of course you are too, but wouldn't it be nice to be served a meal cooked by someone else? (grin)
Pati
In for an ice cream break - it was soft- yuck - I want mine rock hard. Only had a small scoop (pouting...)
Man, got some sickies here = it can pass me by!!! I need to get back to taking my vitamins, calcium etc. Somehow I just got off track taking them....kick me in the pants will ya.!
Planted 28 tall dahlias...two small brugs this afternoon and I am pooped...All my brugs are a strange yellow/green - not the usual deep lush green. They are all this way...I have some iron stuff somewhere, but can't lay my hands on it for some reason (mess I think...)
Darius-you sleeping on the floor? Good luck - I am overwhelmed just reading about your adventure...do you ever think your life will be plain old boring? What ever happened to the 'kid'?
Time to head back out....
Sarv, the kid graduated, became more of a sloth, and is currently in Texas for 2 weeks for her BF's graduation.
I guess I can sleep on the floor on an air mattress, just don't know if I can get UP, LOL!
sarv-good thing ice cream has calcium!! LOL
Just popping in real quick. Leaving work in an hour and then I have a million things I want to get done before we leave tomorrow. Add me to the list of people with a weird nights sleep. I slept great until 3:45, got up to go potty and then the brain started going in a million directions about things I need to do and so on.
Got the rest of our peppers that were ready planted out. I still have some very tiny plants that I started myself. Maybe next week they can go in. I have zuchini and spaghetti squash to go in If I have time.
Sarv - Camping isn't what it used to be when we were kids huh! I like my "hotel room on wheels" I just wish the maid would come in and clean up, then it would be a real vacation. Do you get Good Morning America out your way? Sunday morning they had a segment on a million dollar motor home. That sucker had 5 plasma tv's in it! One folded out from the outside of the vehicle so you could watch it ouside. They said it cost about $600 to fill up the tank!
janis - Whine all you want. That's what we're here for. Send more pictures of your new llittle babies! They are soooo cute!
Elaine - I'm going to look for those books this weekend. I think the dry goods store we visit carries the series.
Darius - Don't get too close to that sister! We don't want you getting sick! Cant wait to see what you do with your new property.
Gotta finish up a few things. If I don't get back here. I want to wish everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend. Hope you all get blessed with sunshine and warm weather. See ya!
OOF-
Me plopping down.
got 25 tomato plants in , with 15 to go. Got 20 lb. of Russian Banana Potatoes in. Started tilling this morning. I think I'll set awhile!!
Naw-think I'll get a shower....
Hey, dmc.. saw where you ordered the Harsch crock (and book). I'm anxious to see better photos than the website, and to know how you like it!
Still wet, but that's the beauty of the Great Pungent Sound area. At least there is something to do indoors ( too much). Bread is rising and the repairman just left with $250.00 of hard earned cash, but the 4 year old Whirlpool Calypso washer works again. There's a Class Action suit on it now so we may be able to get something back, if the lawyers leave anything.
Everyone stay healthy and happy, Darius don't over do.
Hi again. Thank you Darius, I knew you would know. I hope you can avoid the germs.
My day sure didn't start out like I expected. Soon after I posted the question for Darius, my neighbor came by, he had a cow that was having trouble delivering her calf and needed some help with her. So I gulped down my bowl of oatmeal and went to assist. We got the cow into the corral, then into the chute with her head locked in and went to work on the other end. The calf had one leg back, (they should come out in a diving position, both front feet with the head soon after). This one had it's head and one front leg out and was stuck. The calf was dead but the cow is alive and interested in her baby, so it won't be too hard to get her to take an orphan calf once one is located. Cows accept a foster child more easily than sheep do. Ms Cow was still laying down in the corral when I left, but we had moved her dead calf to where she could smell and lick it, and she was making all the right sounds. Too bad the little thing is dead, but more important that the cow survived.
Sarv, your yard must look fantastic when everything is blooming, we need pictures in a few weeks you know, and thanks for mentioning planting dahlias, I have some that need to go in the ground and I hadn't thought of them in several days. I also need to set out a bunch of little flowers, pull a lot of weeds and plant a bunch of seeds. Your camp trailer sounds quite deluxe, you sure wouldn't like my style of camping that I do when I go to endurance rides. Also, we (hubby, 2 kids and I) lived in a couple of big tents for 4 months one summer and fall when we had sold our house and were waiting for another one. It was great until the weather got cold, rainy and windy.
~~~ to everyone, gotta run, the lawn is almost dry enough to mow if I set the blade as high as it will go.
Sarve, a peony tree can frow up to 7 feet, mine at this point are 3 feet tallAlso when the blossom is fully upened it may reach 12 ".. JUst measured the white one now fully open it is 9", the pink one is 8"
Well, have been out all day, weeding, planting, watering. Put Mighty Plant on everything. The swimming pool was delivered today. It is sitting waiting for my name to advance on the installation list. Thought I was doing pretty good with my day, then DH pulled in with an 18'x6' trailer loaded with mulch, piled about 3 feet high. So you know what I am going to be doing the next couple of days. I am already asking for T&P for my muscles. DH started unloading, but the bed where he parked by has some tiny plants in it, and he would have covered them, so I said I will put it down. I will let him help in a more established area.
Had a good chat with 101 this afternoon, she is busy with a typing job.
A friend who frenquents the dahlia forum d-mailed me about an hour ago, and DR father passed away while she was gone. So she flew home for the funeral, and is in Hawaii now.
My T&P are with her. She will be home Thursday, and is going directly to her moms.
Well, gotta get something ready to eat for supper.
BBL
Maria, that is beautiful. Do they have the same lovely scent as the bushy ones? What a sight! I have at least a dozen iris open today, and more on the way. Still have lots of starters to put in the ground, found some wave petunias, in three different colors but they are pretty small.
We've had every kind of weather you can imagine today, from foggy, cool, cloudy, windy to sunny, even windier, and I heard thunder a few miles away but we didn't get a drop of rain here. If you hear a thud thud thud, it's because I'm sneezing my head off. Eyes are watering and I'm all stuffy, must be a high pollen day. I should run to the store and get some allergy meds. It's only going to get worse.
Mmmmm wish I had some more mulch. DH has been putting the grass clippings down as we always do, but there's never enough to suit me. If he's going to enlarge that back corner bed, he'd better get going...he'll be home all week after Memorial Day so I plan to put him to work doing something besides playing with his cars.
Back to work, here's the iris by the front door. Do not look at the long crab grass surrounding them. Another job that didn't get done.....LOL to add to my list of neglected chores...~~~~~~ to all...
Later
Sheila
Afternoon everyone
Whew who's cookin supper tonight? LOL I'm thinking tonight might be a good pizza night. It's already 5 and I don't have a clue!
Well I can see Defoe beat me to posting about our wonderful chat. She has completely spoiled me. My Wednesday's wouldn't be complete without them now. LOL
Remember I told y'all about the pretty trellis I got last week-end for my moon flower? Well, I repotted it and put the trellis in the pot. It's white? and shaped like a great big flower. Isn't this pretty!
Pass the 2X4. I had moonflowers started in a planter...some idiot used the dirt for filling in along the driveway. It's not the first time he's either buried, dug up or ruined some seedlings or established plants. He just doesn't think to ASK, he just goes ahead. I am absolutely steamed!!
Elaine, lovely trellis. (But, it's not white, but green, in a white planter pot.) My moon flowers grew routinely to 8 feet and over the top of my trellis.
Ice cream break!!
Meezer, I used to think that having a hubbygardenerhelper would be a blessing, but now I'm not so sure. Sorry to hear that your babies got dumped. I have blue iris like yours in bloom now, along with a few other colors. Get some allergy medicine before you sneeze your head off. I did think I heard something...
The lawn is mowed!! and I've been pulling tall quack grass and mulching around the flowers with the clippings. I know there are weed seeds in the clippings but I can cover them with straw later. So many weeds, so little time. This wet weather has really put the grow on the weeds. Every few years we have a wet spring like this. Most of you wouldn't consider it wet, but for here in the less than 10 inches of precipitation annually zone, it is wet.
Maria, that peony is beautiful. Do you have some of the regular kind of peonys, and do they bloom at the same time? Your tree peony must be quite hardy.
Ok, the ice cream is gone, and I need to get back to the weeds. I'm working in a bed that I can now see so much better through my new kitchen window, I decided I need to do it first so I will be happy to look at it. ~~~
