Coffee and........May 23, Tuesday

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Good Morning, have a cup , a little chat and a little snack. Come back and see us through the day and let us know how things are going.

We came from over here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/605811/

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Morning everyone!! Back home after our first night camping. DH has to drive in to go to work, so decided to come with him for a couple of days so I can get some planting done (11 flats are staring at me!!) We had more frost this morning and I didn't cover a thing, Need to take my garden walk and check things out.

Texas weather is hitting Mich this weekend - 80's!! Very unusual for this time of the year - but I won't complain as it has been cold for so long...

My pots are looking pitiful. I planted things I had overwintered or started from seed. They look so sparse - may have to do something bout it - later...

We are camped at the most beautiful place. We're on the channel with water lapping at our doorstep - and a plae to tie up the boat.. Kids had a turtle race last night- very funny - the one I picked one!! (no prizes.....)

dmc- for heavens sakes- be careful!!! You've used up one of your nine lives. I've rolled a snowmobile, but never a tractor!

Mary, put your feet up for a day (put vicks on your feet) and take things easy. Summer colds seem worse than winter ones in my mind!

Who ever asked about strawberry shortcake- I make a biscuit with mine, but actually prefer it over ice cream! (can you believe it!!) I was begging DH to get me a malted at the campground- I'll get one before the weekend is over!!

I just put 2 loaves of banana bread in the oven, need to walk out and check the greenhouse- I'll check in after H/P!!

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

look what I did yesterday- yikes!!

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

I will never forget lying on the ground on the downhill side of the tractor,seeing it coming at me....wow. Somehow it landed with my leg pinned, but just the fat of the calf, under the steering wheel,so with some work I could wiggle it loose, AND the whole thing didn't roll one more time while I was lying there.

Today I feel great, and my leg isn't even heavily bruised, but boy have I learned a lesson. Our property is very hilly.

darius-on your new hilly farm keep this in mind!!

i'm going to get some coffee, have some banana bread, and read what everyone else was up to yesterday!!

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

bal-what a project! just spectacular. Wish we could each order one!!

suzieq-great job on the relay for life. It must be satisfying to see such excellent results. We had the monsoons and gales too, what's next, the locusts or the frogs?

hope and darius-can't even imagine the heat...not that I like that much heat. 70's works for me.

hope-are the kitties doing okay today?

Thanks for all the well-wishes!! I was just plain lucky. I wasn't mowing, but hauling a load of dirt for a raised bed. I backed up and caught a wheel and spun...

Elaine-oooohhh tomatoes!! Could you put one on the counter for us? Pretty please?

Mary-I hope you're feeling better!

McCool-sounds like your herb garden is really shaping up!

Casey-I thought 90's was hot!! Sorry about the neighbor issue. Sometimes I wonder if a new owner causes the sort of territorial battles that a new dog in the neighborhood will....let's see if we pee on the property if we get control of it, sort of thing....If you stand your ground it probably just settles in, like the animals do....I hope.

defoecat-gues the DH may be a little quicker to help out next time,to prevent disasters....maybe. I've been asking him to help get this raised bed filled with soil for tomatoes and he's been busy. I keep threatening to get out the chainsaw too (don't worry, I've learned my lesson) But he's trying to hire someone now to do the cutting I want done!
I hope DM and DMIL are doing okay. YAY strawberries!! My new plants are set to arrive today. I make a shortbread type biscuit with butter and cream in it, sprinkle a little sugar on top for a crispy crust. I have to say Strawberry Shortcake is one of my favorite seasonal foods. Yep, it's the main course at least once a year when we get really good strawberries. Even when the kids were little, what a hoot when mom says we're having S.S. for dinner- you should see thier eyes light up!

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

dmc, OMG I am sooo glad you were not hurt!! I know it's been said but be careful and stop that!!!!!
sarv, great now I want a malted too..:-) It's way too early here to find one so I'll have to wait...turtle races sound like good fun and your camping place sounds great.
hope, maybe mama kitty will come to see that you are helping and be more cooperative and move them....love to follow your day too
mary, yep vicks the feet and put them up for a day or two...LOL it don't sound like you are the type to sit long but try so you can get healthy!!
Janis, how are the babies doing?? They are too cute.
Waves and thoughts to all I missed hope your day is planned with fun things and sunshine. I have read all, just cannot remember everything.
More rain here today and then they say sun tomorrow, I hope....I have old roses to yank out and then find something?? shade loving to plant in their place... bbl.....Lauri

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Good Morning, just a quick check in, have to get DM to a Dr appointment in about 45 minutes.

Will check in later.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Carat, Before I forget and to answer your question from yesterday, the wooden steps at the front door will stay there for the time being. As generic as they are (they are on every mobile home put in down here) I like the looks of them. Since my orchid floor is dirt, not raised and no other additives, the porch serves well right there.

My goodness, yall need to be careful out there in the garden. Just because I put a pitchfork through my shoe (just missed that toe) I never realized there were so many other dangers in working in a garden.

I just emailed a guy at freecylcle for a riding lawn mower. Haven't heard back from him yet. Luckily I only have a gentle incline anywhere here on my property, nothing too steep to fall over.

I finally met 2 more neighbors this week on my road, one on the south side, and another down at the dead end. It's very nice after 6 months having a little neighborly niceness.

It's overcast today, well this morning anyway. I think I'll get out and get some painting done before Jeremy comes out to make me carry 2x10x16's. Takes a long time to paint all those sticks we bought, specially since I want primer and 2 coats on everything.

Well, bbl. Yall Be Careful Out There Today!!!!! ya heah?

Molly
:^))))

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

DMC - You be careful with those hills. A 17 year old girl was killed a couple weeks ago near us when the mower she was on went over the side of a raised septic bed.

Bal - That arbor is just great!

Maria - Pretty Peonies

Hope - Send pics of the babies when you can!

Have a great day all! bbl

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

suzieq-That's about the tenth tractor death I've heard about today, so now i feel like a very lucky....idiot! I told Dh death would be better than them having to put up with me in a cast for the summer though - i would be very nasty if laid up for gardening season. Seriously, I am counting my blessings and very sorry to hear a kid was killed.

Molly-I still owe you ditch lilies from the rainy arctic if you still want some, or are you overwhelmed? glad you missed that toe. I guess steel-toed boots have their place too. don't think they'd be too comfy in the heat. Glad you have some nice neighbors. I guess you have plenty of work with the orchid house. I need to paint a sign for a stable, so maybe that's a safer bet for today.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Sorry to hear about all the mishaps... but glad no one was seriously hurt. Dorothy, you can bet I shall use caution (and a roll bar) and mow up and down rather than across.

Actually, I plan to terrace the back yard area for vegetable beds so I don't have to mow it. That's assuming I can get some heavy equipment back there. The front and side yards are nearly flat. Way too much grass and not enough flowers. Then there's 30 feet or so across the creek before the road to maintain. Eventually it will be bulbs, perennials and some shrubs.

I want to do creeping phlox on both banks in front of the house so I don't have to weed-eat the banks. I'd have to stand in the creek, LOL. Maybe I need to buy some waders?

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

dmc, Steel-toed boots are the worse!! I am supposed to wear them while I am at work, but standing out in the sun, on pavement, for 10-12 hours a day flagging, your toes become bar-b-qued real quick....besides if a car hits me squished toes will be the least of my worries...:-). I'd rather have toes cut off than squished. Do we get to see the sign when it is done??

Molly I hope ya get your mower soon. I thought I was the only person who primed and put down 2 coats of paint..Are the new neighbors friendly types?? I hope so it took them long enough to find ya.....

Suzie, so sad to hear about the girls death....I am changing my mowing ways...no more slants!!!! Level ground only.

Maria, I love peonies and have several. I planted them too deep frist so I dug them up and replanted them and got a big ole bud!! Then it rotted and the other buds look like they are fried.LOL I have no idea what I did wrong this time....so I will enjoy yours.....Lauri

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, back from the Dr with DM, although had to stop and buy groceries for DMIL, so took some extra time. Just ate a meat loaf sandwich, and on my way to get dressed to go to a funeral. A member of our church. Whenever I have to dress up, it feels like I am going to a masquerade party. But funerals are one place that I always were the full gear. Dress, panty hose and heels. Glad they don't last that long. Molly, I would rather have a pitch fork through my toes than to wear heels.

I don't have time to comment just now, but later when I get back home. Please everybody stay safe today, the worst that has happened to me this year is tripping while moving a wheel barrow of weeds and debris, just resulted in an over turned wheel barrow, and me on my behind. It was soft grass though so nothing injured but my pride.

~~~~~..... BBL
Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)
Good morning.
Dmc, that was way too close! God was watching over you, let you have a warning without breaking anything. Painting a stable sign sounds like what you need today, take pictures for us, we all want to see stuff.
Molly, it's nice that you met more neighbors, nice ones this time. I suppose they have been watching and wondering like we all do when somebody new moves into a neighborhood (at least in the country) and wondering what kind of neighbor you will be. You haven't mentioned the not so nice ones you met before so hopefully they are not a problem. The pitchfork incident was probably a wake up for you, I'm glad you missed your toe. An accident like that would definitely put a crimp in your plans for a while.
Sarv, I have to laugh at you, going camping but coming back home to work during the day. It does make sense when you have so much to do, and after all, it is spring and there is never enough time for everything.
Hope, why can't the kitties just stay where they are for a few days. Momma might relax by then and be more cooperative.
Robert, what a beautiful project! I think you're right about a light and airy sort of stained glass for the large side opening, something that would take up a bit of space and not overpower it. That would be a nice winter project. I recall seeing something that had irises or lilies and was not a solid piece, it had spaces between stems and leaves with no glass in them. And I like the idea of using textured glass, frosty, seedy, etc instead of colors for some subjects. I'm sure you have something all planned already, and I'm just impatient to see it.
I feel better today, less nose blowing, less coughing, less sneezing. Thanks for the reminders about the vicks, I bought some when we were talking about it a few months ago, but it was out of sight and out of mind. I have to go to town today and showers are forecast so I won't get much done outside. Yesterday I did get a wheelbarrow full of weeds out of a flower bed but then the rain and wind came again so it didn't even get dumped on the compost pile. A lot of things didn't get done yesterday, and probably won't today. There are some plants that need to be in the ground, that would be easy enough to accomplish I think. If I get outside working and getting my feet wet (shoes are still wet from yesterday) and my jeans wet (not warm enough for shorts), I only want to do it once.
Time to get dressed and get the horses fed. See you later.
So sorry to hear about the kitties twyla ;-(. I hope the others do okay
Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)
Hi Folks,
Afraid I only made it half way through yesterday's thread and don't hold out much hope to get back there, so bear with me if I act stupid.
Sarv - I hope your garden survived the frost. I brought most of my plants back into the porch last night and think I'll leave them there till I get back on Friday. Sure hope some of that warm weather gets sent our way. My tomatoes have been curling up their toes telling me it's too cold. The peppers are stil in the house.
dmc - I'd like you alive when I make a visit that way; so please be careful.
Molly - sure glad you missed the toes. You be careful too, please. A toe infection would slow you way down. Good you're meeting neighbours.
Darius - your garden plans sound wonderful. Can't wait to see pics after you get it started.
Hi Bonnie - hope the funeral doesn't last too long. I don't do heels anymore - at least not anything more than an inch or so. I did my foolishness in my youth marching around with 4 inch spikes. Now it's flats or near flats or my black Mephisto sandals (which everyone things are Birks, but which fit narrower than Birks.)
Mary - sorry to hear about your cold, but glad you are feeling a bit better. Hope you get your gardening in. I can relate to the rain. We've had mostly rain for the last two weeks. People go out to the garden for 15 minutes before the next shower. I have weeds galore thanks to my new soil with which I top-dressed EVERYTHING.
Hope - sounds as though I'll have to go back and read what you posted yesterday - kittens?
I've been working on my newsletter but won't get it to the printer before we go away tomorrow. And I've been hanging out in hostas a bit. there are some pics of my hosta gardens at:
Ann who hopes to be back later but might not make it.
~~~Hi everyone!~~~
I hope u are all extremely proud of me - I got the dreaded C-scope today and also an endoscope at the same time. Both sites are a tad tender. ha ha Results are about as I expected, but a bit worse. Need to have ±8 inches of colon removed - diverticulosis is bad there and blocking most of the colon. Surgeon is doing research and see if he can repair my large hernia with mesh at the same time. (result from 4 c-sections and hysterectomy) Other end - my chronic heartburn has not caused much damage, nothing precancerous - hurrah! Doc said I should use OTC prilosec - it's better to use that and then just Rolaids/Tums as needed. Better for the eosophagus, apparently. So we'll give it a try and carry on... And I promised myself I will never, NEVER drink that crud again - made me so sick to my stomach, gagging, half-puking - only got ½ gallon down but doc said it was clean enough to do the scope. whew! if ever have to have another scope, I will do the pills, period! Really humiliating to have so much trouble with it when my 83 yr. old MIL slurped that whole gallon down in a couple of hours!

I've tried to keep up with the daily threads but had to do a lot of skimming - did catch a few are sick again - pls get better soon!! and dmc had an awful scare! FIL did that once and came out unscathed also - just some bruises! BE CAREFUL Everyone! Your lives are all precious!!

And to gardening, the best part of all - got 21 pots filled (can't figure out where all those plants came from? lol) I'm enjoying the dwarf and intermediate irises that are blooming and sharing some in the break room at work. Sure perks the place up!

Yay, Laura... I hate those procedures. Too bad about losing some colon but it's better than the alternative.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Amen to that! When is ur next dr visit - lungs, etc?

Hi everyone

Finally made it here. Am doing some typing again, so have been busy the past couple of days. will probably be tied up the rest of the week. :)

Twyla, so sorry to hear about the kittens. They are so cute when they are tiny like that. Sure hope the others make it okay.

Mary, I realized that I never even acknowledged that you mentioned telling your friend about the Scanacan. Actually, I sent you a Dmail over the week-end, but got the dreaded "page not found" thing and never went back to it. Sorry. Please check out this link. This has really changed the way I do things in my house. I take the time to be sure that all products are entered in the data base if they aren't already there and also enter cooking directions on any items that I might need more than once. I could go on and on but if you need more info ... just Dmail me. :)

sarv~ LOL at your camping trip! Hope you're not having to wash clothes or any such thing when you go home.

Bonnie~ didn't answer your question about the strawberry short cake. Hmmm, lets see. I like mine on homemade pound cake ... or on angel food cake ... or without the cake! LOL I just like strawberries! Don't even have to have whipped cream. But if I do ... I want the stuff in the can if I can't have homemade. Please don't give me cool whip or such as that. :-( Would rather just do without.

Bal, love the sound of that arbor!

Lauri~ hope you don't get too much rain. We sure could use some down my way.

Molly~ glad you didn't get the foot. Ouch! All your plans sure look good. Am following your thread. Congrats on all your hard work. :)

Hi Darius ... keep all us up to date on your progress, too!

Suzie~ great to see you checking in lately. How's the guy in the office doing?

Ann, have a good time on your trip!

Woofens~ come back and tell us about your babies. Did you have to get rid of the male?

Kooger~ so glad you got the dreaded C scope over and the rest of the test at the same time. So sorry to hear about the findings but so glad it's not the big CA. Do take care of yourself. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. How is Kandyce and the baby?

I know I'm missing folks but can't remember everything ... especially have missed some of our new people. :-( Forgive me till I get use to everyone's name.

Well, coffee break's over. Will catch y'all later.

~Elaine~

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

kooger-Sorry to hear about the nasty procedure and having to lose 8" of colon, but glad it's nothing worse, so you'll be good as -= or better than- new again. your iris are so pretty I could just cry! Any news on Kandyce? Well, I guess you've been a bit busy....

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, back from the funeral. Was a lovely service, but at the same time, mad as fire. This gentleman was a member of our church for years, and our pastor was supposed to have the service, with scripture reading prayers, etc, by another pastor who is a friend of the family. Well, our pastor didn't show up, and the funeral director told me that he had been called to a city where he was formally pastor, because someone there was sick. Plus the pastor was there last night at visitation, and took the payment for the service. The nerve!!. His supervisor is getting a call from me just as soon as I can temper my comments.

Well, I am heading out to do some sorting of tomato seedlings, to put in the garden tomorrow. At this point in time, I am not promising that I will have time later to comment. Have read it all, but we shall see how much time I have later.~~~~~~

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Hope - So sorry to hear about your two babies. Hope the rest are all ok.

Mary - Glad you are feeling better today.

Ann - Very pretty hostas

Kooger - The tests could have been worse. DH and I both take the Prilosec. We have found it much cheaper to buy at WalMart or B.J.'s.

Elaine - Joihn is doing soooo much better now. He no longer has the feeding tube and is slowly eating more and more real food. He just needs to re-iintroduce foods into his diet slowly. Things he may have eaten before, could cause problems now while his system is still very sensitive. I have talked to him on the phone and you can hear in his voice that he is getting his strength back.

Have had a frustrating afternoon fighting with the office printer. It wanted to jam every few pages and I had about 1200 pages to print. Finally got it all done.

Really looking forward to a few days away. We are going to Lancaster, PA. We have gotten to know an amish woman who runs a bake shop out of her home. She makes the only donoughts that I can eat and not have them come back to haunt me later. They have a huge vegetable garden and the men in her family do woodworking. Mostly swingsets, but some garden things also. A few years ago I got a free standing trellis with a planter at the bottom and hooks on either side for haning baskets.

I need to take 2 cats and the dog to the vets tonight. I told DH he must go with me. We'll see if he remembers, LOL. The receptionist at the vets is a good friend, so she will help with handling the crew if he doesn't go. Just need to take them in for routine shots and get the dogs nails clipped. She is sooo good for him, but won't let me do it unless DH and I both pin her down.

Sarv - I can see why you wanted to come back from your camping trip. I'm thinking of all that I have to get done before we go, and I know it won't all get done. I have several things yet to plant. And the weeds!!!! How do they grow so much faster than anything else!

Gotta get back to work.

Oh Suzie ... how wonderful that sounds. Makes me think of Beverly Lewis. Are you familiar with her books?

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Elaine - I think I have seen her books, but have never ready any. Is she a Christian writer?

Yes, and she has a series about an amish family. *Very* good! If you like to read, Dmail me and I'll give you the names of the books. :)

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Umm, not sure where I left off with the K. and k. saga. :) I believe it was when she 'threw out the baby with the bath water' ...actually the baby with the son. She's been going faithfully to counseling and I think she started the 'mentor mom' program last week. I call her everyday to see how it is going. Let me back up a bit. I don't think I mentioned what happened a week and a half ago. DS called from IN and told me to call Kandyce. I did and she told me she can't get ahold of the neighbors and they don't return her phone calls. Also, she came down to see baby k. and they knew abt it and they were not home. The neighbor's daughter, who graduated with K. and is supposedly a friend, has been telling her how bad she is and there is no way they're letting that baby go back to her, etc. etc. oofta! The neighbor even called the counselor's ofc to try to get info on K. Wow! I was a bit upset and surprised by all this. I talked to the neighbor once when she was out walking baby k., abt two weeks ago and she mentioned that maybe they should call SS if K. couldn't take care of the baby. I said I didn't think that was necessary at this point. The baby was fine and K. was getting help, progress is being made, etc.

Apparently they felt K. wasn't getting better fast enough and she was just using them to take care of k. So, I had a big talk with K. that Fri. night and told her to come get Kayleigh and I would help her if she needed it. Dumb kid slept in Sat. am and I had to leave for work at 9:15. Called her at 11 and she was just leaving, with a friend to get the baby. Told her I'd call her after work and see how it went. And that they could not stop her from taking her baby. So, I called her at 2 and everything went well. The neighbors had little to say to her, so she said thanks and left.

She had plans to go to her grandmother for Mother's Day with her sister so she had help Sat.and Sun. Asked her if she could handle Mon. ok and I would call her after work Mon. and if she was having difficulties, come help or pick up k. and keep her for Tues , bring her back before work Wed. if need be. Or keep her till Thurs, whatever she needed. Called Mon, doing good! called Tues, doing good! called Wed., doing good! I was very happy to hear her coping! called Thurs and asked if she wanted a break for the weekend and she said it would be nice.

So I picked k up after work Fri, went to the Tulip Festival with her, DH, DD, DGD and DGD's friend. She was a blast! Had a lot of fun with her. Took her to DD on my way to work Sat., picked her back up Sat. after work and K came around 4:30 with her sister to pick her up again. Called yest., everything's going fine. ... oh, she had a visit from the DSS (dept. of soc. serv.) last week Thurs. Apparently the neighbor's or their daughter (probly the daughter, she's been telling people K. is doing drugs!) did call them so they came to check on K. They wanted her to do a drug test next week, which is now. That makes no sense to me at all, if she was doing drugs, they would be out of her system by now. ...who knows... I'm also curious by what legal law can they just come over and tell her she has to take a drug test? hmmm...

I think she is making great progress, I'm very happy for her. I'm praying the good progress continues. I don't get into what she's discussing with the counselor but I have talked with her quite a bit about breaking the pattern of throwing everything out/away when there is a conflict and instead to work it out -- coping skills. That is all she saw her whole life - her mom and BF would have a fight, she'd throw the guy out and a short time later, a new guy would move in. Same with jobs and moving. Always a new job, always a new school and town. Tough on kids!!

That is the latest news. Sorry, I seem to get long-winded always. :) DS will be home next weekend. He's also coming home June 25-26 to take K to Mayo for her follow up MRI and dr visit. He hasn't given up on her either. There's a precious girl and baby there and they're both worth fighting for, even if she is never my DIL. :)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Kooger, I had a long post and somehow lost it. I have an appointment with a new pulmonologist June 26, about 45 miles from our new place. Could get one closer but not an appointment until fall. Guess I'll be starting from scratch, new CT scans, etc.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

well, guess the good thing is, a new opinion, and new tests - maybe a good thing? gotta think positive, eh? are u using much oxygen now a days?

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

No, weaned off O2 last year. Probably end up back on it. Taking sauerkraut (fresh, not pasteurized) which is supposed to do away with polyps and other pre-cancerous conditions in just a few weeks.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Hmmm, interesting on the kraut - maybe something I should try. Can't say it's my favorite or anything, tho. Got a recipe? ......Maybe that good clean country air will help the 'wind bags' too? Except you need lots to get that gardening and yard work done. :)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Kooger, I bought a book on making sauerkraut and other fermented veggies like dilly beans, pickled carrots, beets, etc. from Amazon

Well darius, it's 5:19 and I now have that crock pot and book on order!! How's that for copycatting? You should be a dealer!

Seriously, the past two weeks we've been discussing with our German friend, how we'd like to make sauerkraut and crock dill pickles. I was hunting for a crock and instructions, so there I go.... We'll have to decide which to make first, since I only ordered one crock.

kooger-I will keep K and k (I love that!!) in my prayers. You are a good soul for helping them so much, but you're right, K has learned toss things out. If no one helps, how will it ever be different for her, and what a loss for her baby!

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

My my, it's been busy while I was out today. Not sure I can keep up with all.

The pitchfork incident was while Darius was still here. That was certainly minor. Just wanted to warn others to be careful. I didn't get the riding mower, the guy gave it to someone else. Oh well, maybe another time.

Jeremy and I only got 2 2x10x16's up today. One of them fell and hit me on the head. I don't bleed much, But it did give me a bit of a head ache and I used that as an excuse to slow down a little. There's a lump there now. The cut was small, just a little messy in the long hair.

So we quit early. Will get back at it tomorrow. Hopefully we have worked out a system AND an understanding of the process and we won't repeat this tomorrow. Still got 4 of the beams to put up.

I'm getting too old for this stuff,
Molly

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Dangerous adventures in the gardens! Whew, the mower flip gave me chills, and the pitchfork didn't help! That's probably why DH doesn't let me use the hedgetrimmer, or the mower, or other sharp tools....he can't stand the sight of blood.

Poor kittens, Hope, if they aren't eating, mom maybe senses there is something wrong with them. Hope they will survive, with your help. They are so helpless and tiny.

Spent the better part of the morning clearing up the paper mountain on my desk. Piles up as fast as weeds grow. Found an unauthorized charge on one of my cards, and they issued me a new one, then there was paperwork to fill out and return, blah blah blah. Paperless society my ***. Don't we wish!

Then I had to lie down because Souky wanted to take a nap on me and I lost an hour or more on the couch....Finally got moving and managed to clean up the kitchen and tidy up some of the other clutter from the weekend. Never did get outside to do anything, it was a really nice day and I just blew it off. As Scarlet said, tomorrow.....

Glad to hear the K & K situation is improving, Kooger. With the example she had growing up, it's no wonder she wanted to cut and run. I commend you for your helping hands, I dont know if I could handle an infant at this stage of my life. I like to jiggle them for a bit and then give them back to their parent when they smell bad or get noisy.

Put the small apple pie in the freezer so we don't get over pied. Put on a pair of jeans this morning that fit me two weeks ago, and took them right off again. Must have found that ten pounds pretty fast.

Sauerkraut sounds good, Darius, I like it but DH doesn't. When I have a bit of leftover pork loin or roast, I put it in my little crock pot with kraut and potato and carrots and let it simmer all day. Then I enjoy it by myself. Makes the house stink for sure! My dad used to make it, in a big crock, but I'm not too inclined to take that on.

Dct, I don't know if I could even manage to walk in heels anymore. Been way too long, and I too paid my dues by tottering around on those spikes in my heyday. I'd probably trip and fall over in them now. Not that I could scare up any attire that would look appropriate with heels....

I can't possibly respond to everyone as I have gone totally brain dead after dealing with checking balances, filing paperwork, filling out other paperwork, and looking for lost paperwork. So I'm just going to ~~~ and assure you I've read everything from yesterday on, just not able to dredge up anything coherent to say.

Well, I read most of the days activities but it took me so long between having to help DD with a few things that I have forgotten most of it. So ~~~~ to everyone.

Filled out an application for a position in SC. Not really thinking I will get the job but wanted to see how the procedures work there, and get my name in there. The job is with Social Services.

The heat is back again although not quite as bad as last week. In the 90's today and little humidity. Hoping that some moves up north to help you all out with the freezes.

Starving, better go see what is in store for dinner and check on the laundry monster. I think he has been eating all my socks again....

Best of all wishes to all

Well, got supper out of the way, the kitchen cleaned, went to DM's to fill her pill containers, you know that weekly little plastic thing. Watered her flowers, and came home and been on line since making hotel reservations for vacation coming up June 19th. I am going to be putting some heirloom tomatoes in the garden tomorrow, so still have to make some markers for them.

Have a call in to the the preachers supervisor, but of course have not had my call returned.

You all have talked so much today, I am not even gonna try to comment, except to say:

M5, I have plenty of dresses, suits etc, but don't have much that fits. I need to do some serious shopping, for at least one good outfit, and some shorts and things for summer. Anybody who wears a 10 or 12, want to come raid my closet?

Hope, sorry about your kitties. Really wish the best for the remainder. Is this a new mommy and she doesn't know how to take care of them?

Kooger, that is somewhat better news about K & k. My first DIL sounds about like that. This was DS first marriage, and at the hint of discord, she ran home to mamma. But she had a very troubled home life during childhood. One time while they were dating, DS left to go to her house, they were cooking a birthday dinner, can't remember for who, and about an hour later, he comes in, has red stuff all over him, and immediately I think he has been in an accident and it is blood. While cooking spaghetti, the Mom and Dad got in an argument and they started throwing food, dishes, pots and pans, any thing handy I guess, and my DS had the misfortune to be hit by a pan of spaghetti sauce, not hot fortunately, so he had to come home shower and change. I asked him if he was going back, he said by the time I get back they will have ordered pizza or something and everything will be over.!! If that happened in this house it would not be over that quickly!!

Well, gonna go browse some other forums, and will be back later. ~~~~ at all I didn't comment to, having a serious CRS moment.

I slept early, off and on last night, then I went to bed. I'm awake now. Time to make a new start.
