Good Morning, Looking for coffee......................where's the coffee? Then we can talk.
We came from here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/604671/
Sunday, May 21, Coffee and......................
Good morning to all, Sunshine today hope you have the same
Sunny here, but a cold cold wind coming out of the north. Supposed to help DIL move a big bed of perennials - hopefully she won't want to do it today!!
Frost tonight, so I'll be hauling out the big plastic pots to cover things....gardening sure is WORK!!
Our oriole has moved on - such a shame as they are gorgeous birds with a beautiful song. Reminder to myself to clean the hummingbird feeder and refill it! Little pigs.
DH turned on the frig in the trailer- ready to pull out tomorrow afternoon. I plan on coming home during the day to use the computer!! LOL no WI-FI at the campground and to work in the gardens - plus kitty needs to be let in/or out.
Oh, I have to stop and get my fishing license- why in the world do they ask your weight??? Don't they know females lie....
Sarv---- Confuse them. Put down 2 numbers side by side. If they ask what is this? Tell them before breakfast or after.
LOL - I put down the same weight year after year - it's the weight I HOPE to be! Really none of their business I feel!!
I had a good breakfast of egg/sausage/toast/oj - that was after I had a huge slab of rhubarb pie!! One more piece left- someone please eat it!!
Ugh, our fishing licenses went up $10 this year!
Very frustrating... At the rate I catch fish, they're costing me about $5 apiece if I have a really spectacular year! :) LOL
Sarah
Guess since my new home will be on a decent creek, I'll need to get a license too. Also have to find out if it's stocked (many creeks in the mountains are) and if it's catch and release.
There is a fish hatchery nearby. Sure wish I could put in a large pond and stock it the way my folks did. Nothing better than trout on the table 15 minutes from the pond!
Well, back from church, sandwiches for lunch, off to Louisville, to see DBIL, who is in the hospital. So today will be zip, zing, hurry hurry.
Will be back after all the afternoon activties.
Sarv, just put dow 99, and see if they go for that. LOL
Since no one finished off the last piece of pie- I did!! Pie pan needed to be washed and returned to DM (good excuse..)
Darius-if the stream is on your property, why do you need a license? Last year I used mine once and didn't catch any keepers, just little stinkers that rush in, snatch your bait, and zoom away. I really love to fish, but when all the kids come with us- guess who gets to stay on land....
Our boat motor hasn't been running right-had it fixed 2x last summer and never did try it out after the last fix it time. So this will be our maiden voyage...
defoe-I am going to leave it blank...
Sarv, when a creek is over much more than a trickle, the state and the Army Corps of Engineers takes control. Plus, the creek is just a few feet from the paved road and runs parallel. Of course, I'll have to check.
In NC, if you only fish with a cane pole, no license is needed.
LOL, fishing license weight must operate on the same theory that you look like your driver's license picture!!
Went out for breakfast, and since DH returned at about 10:30 last night, he has work to do on his commuter car, and I'm going to dig in some of the daisies and coneflowers I picked up this week. Still have some daylilies to put in too, so that will keep me out of trouble for the day.
Good job on the chairs, FC! One of our neighbors sold their house last year and had to pare downwith a garage sale. I stopped up there at closing time on the last day, and she still had two older bentwood kitchen chairs, one had been refinished and one still had several layers of paint on it, but they were nice. I asked how much, she said $5, and I said, well, I guess I'll just take the one finished one, and she said, Oh, take them both. So, they sat in the garage until this spring, and I gave them to DILand DS! I did get off most of the paint on the one, but then the weather got cold and I quit. DIL can finish it off, or nag DS into doing it. Otherwise, I haven't been stopping by sales very much. Friday I was just avoiding going home!
Susan, (9kitty) Elaine explained some time back that her name stands for I owe one, a reference to her faith, and when I first saw it I thought it was one-oh-one too.
I'm going to make that lemon pie today, who started that? LOL I'm so easily led astray....I'll put some on the counter for all to enjoy as it will be calorie free for you.........unfortunately not for me!
LOL Darius, I don't think even the IRS could find you!
FC, I happily had my upper teeth replaced about five years ago, and have never regretted it. After periodontal surgery, multiple pockets of infection, losing one every year that was beyond saving, I said goodby with a (new) smile. Along with their departure went styes on my eyelids, that had been plaguing me, bladder and kidney infections, etc. so there was a level of bacteria getting into my blood stream from those miserable teeth, affecting other parts of my body. Good riddance! I would not even want to think about how much money went into my mouth with no good results! All the other annoying or uncomfortable problems disappeared once the teeth were gone.
No new kitty yet, McCool, but I spoke at length with one of the breeders who had an ad in this week's paper. Great conversation, but she has only flame point siamese and some other exotic breeds. I'm going to visit her anyway at some point just to see her collection, we had such a fun conversation! She did refer me to a breeder that has one of her male flames, but who also has sealpoints. I'm calling her this afternoon.
Seal points are the darkest of the pointed siamese, chocolates are next -kind of Hershey chocolate color, then there are Blues, Lilacs, Flames, Lynx, in all the colors and Torties! She mentioned a new color point, Cinnamon, but I haven't seen one. Flames have reddish color points, and aren't appealing to me, but I've had blues and they are lovely pale gray with a cream body. And of course, all have those fabulous blue eyes.
This photo shows Oskar, Max, Mini, and Hobbes in descending order. Hobbes was a Lynx point, Mini is very dark all over her body, neither would get any points at a show. (If they would even let them in the door!!)
Sarv, great idea checking in at home during the day...you can sneak in a hot shower, too! Tell your DH we think it was very thoughtful of him to prepare a buffet for the mice, I'm sure they appreciated it and reproduced mightily as a show of their gratitude!
Maria, I married my Ex-'s nephew....in 1986 ( he wasn't related to ME, after all) and first met him when he was five years old. He was jealous of his uncle's attention to me, and wanted to push me down the stairs. LOL I'm sure there are times when he still feels that way! Didn't see him for 15 or so years after that, until my marriage was already crashing. After my divorce, in 1980, we met occasionally for pizza, and eventually he got up the courage to tell me he had feelings for me since he got out of community college. I must have looked like a fish with my mouth hanging open when he told me that. Never crossed my mind!! Anyway, all's well that ends well. I doubt your gentleman friend has any subversive motives, but since you've made yourself clear to him, he must certainly understand. We can always send the 2X4 if you need it!
Dcat, that asian buffet sounded so good! One of the ones here has scallops that they mince and add a sauce to, served in the shells, and they are just delicious. I love picking from a variety of dishes, but I especially love the hot and sour soup, except for the tofu. It is very hard to fill a bowl and avoid the tofu, but with practice, I've gotten pretty good. It is helpful that the tofu kind of floats on top.
~~~~ at everybody, sorry to rush off but I'm burning daylight here and plants are calling. Hope everyone has a good day, feels well, and you find all the gardens tools you put away last fall in a "safe place".
Later
Sheila
Meezer, I love the picture. How you managed to get them all to sit together long enough for the picture is foreign to me.
Thanks about the chairs. I managed to drag the body out of bed early this morning and took them completely apart, lightly sanded them with 400 grit sand paper and oiled them. I am going to reassemble them after lunch and then in a couple days I will take them apart again and store them. I dont have the room for them to sit out and assembled here. DH made a smart comment about purchasing something else to drag across country until I showed him how much teak chairs cost. He changed his attitude quickly.
I haven't had a fishing license in years. I wouldn't chance eating something out of Lake Mead. I wont even stick my feet in that water. Watch a man pull out a two headed fish and I was done. We use to go to Utah for camping and fishing a couple times a year but couldn't for the past few years. Hoping we will be able to make it up once before I leave for SC. If not, then when I get back for sure...
Wow, I am hungrier then I thought, going to go get a sandwich and some chips and hopefully I will make it back later.
WOW a two headed fish, I wouldn't eat anything out of that lake either! And yes, teak is terribly expensive, you got a good deal.
Just sent Elaine three dmails, trying to send something to her that requires typing in her name....as far as I can see, you can't do it. You either click on her name in Coffee (or some other thread), or do a member search and find her name, or reply to an email. In all cases the name is taken from the DG files, and should be correct. I didn't see anywhere that you are required to fill it in, which might lead to using a one instead of an i in the first position. But maybe someone else knows???
Went a looked at a little female sealpoint. The breeder (very young) told me it was between 7 and 8 weeks old, but just look at it. It's not even as big as her hand and she was a small person. It is still nursing, and just started eating solid food. Soooo tiny. I think there is something wrong with it. Even the runt in a litter by 7 weeks has almost caught up to it's litter mates in terms of eating solids. I think this is a no-go, although it tugs at my heart strings to see a sweet little face like that. I told her I wouldn't even consider taking it before 12 weeks, but even at that, I don't want to adopt her and chance her having serious medical issues.
Carat, they did that pose all on their own and I RAN for the camera. Those four always made kitty piles, on the bed, on their floor pillow, on my reading chair. in the kitty cave (built in wood box that never has had a stick of fire wood in it, just cats) all curled up and happy together. They all got along just fine, no confrontations, they established their "pecking order" as they arrived and it was never challenged. Souky is the only one who is a loner, but loves to sit with, or on, us. I attribute that to her several moves to different homes during her first year. She only bonds with humans. And it took her a year to trust us.
Here's another of the four.
Sheila
Just checking in for a minute as, SURPRISE, it's raining again. I hope it stops so I can get in a bit more gardening today.
Sheila, I usually go to the mail section and click on "compose". That brings up a box for you to type in and that's how I managed to send my messages off to somebody or other instead of to I01! Seems that if there's a way to screw up on the computer, I'll find it somehow. By the way, those two pictures of the cats are wonderful. I'm feeling bad for the poor little kitten you mentioned, but maybe since she's made it this far she'll do okay later on --- here's hoping anyhow.
Well, the cats have figured out that the garden fence is no big challenge. Rats! One of them apparently thought that a mound I'd made for the squash plants looked like a good pile of kitty litter. Good thing that the plants had already expired or I'd really be p o'd! Today two of them got in there with me and started fighting with each other. I hope at least some of what I plant escapes their attentions long enough to get sizeable so it stands a chance at surviving. Looks like a bad year for my garden --- about the only things coming up are the ones that seeded themselves --- cilantro and nasturtiums all over the place. Even the radishes haven't come up, don't know if the seeds were too old or if it's due to the rotten weather.
Good luck to all of you who are going fishing. Sarv, hope the camping trip is fun.
Bonnie, oh no, not yet another family member in the hospital! You've sure had more than your share of that kind of trouble lately.
Still raining out there. If this keeps up I'll have to go plant in the rain yet again. Not looking forward to it!
Meezers it's a *very* good thing I can't get my hands on those kitties! Ooooh, I just *love* kitty cats!
Well, you'll never guess what I've been doing today. The sis called today from FL and wanted to stop back by on the way home. Of course I said 'mon. We picked up some chicken and potato salad, pulled out the rest of the sandwich meat and voila ... lunch!! She was in a good mood and the visit was very nice. :) I sent all my ripe tomatoes home to Mama and Daddy *sniff sniff* LOL Sure hope they have a good taste as we've only had *one*!! Just had to send them to Mom, though!
sarv~ so are you out moving perennials this afternoon? Boy, all y'all make me tired with moving flowers from flower bed to flower bed. There's *something* to gardening in pots. When I want to move it, I just pick it up and move it! LOL Hmmm, wish *that* was true. Some of these pots are waaay too heavy to budge! Anyway, you got more energy than I can muster!
Defoe, maybe I was asleep but don't remember what's wrong with DBIL. Guess I've been too focused on your MIL and DM. Speaking of which how are they doing today?
Well, I'm not sure what happened about the Dmails between me and Defoe . All I know is there *really* is a 101! LOL If you go to the member list and type in 101 it will take you to someone elses member page. It shouldn't be confusing, though, cause their name isn't Elaine and they don't live in GA. :)
Okay, got to get up from here and get *something* done today! Waving at everyone I've missed.
~Elaine~
Just came in, am done for the day and just beat the rain, can't beloeve it is raining again after such a sunny day. Just a few more planting to be done and that is it except watering.
My jounger daughter stopped by, she brought me a bouquet of lilies of the valey she picked , very sweet and and their scent is so lovely.
Today is my baby's birthday , he is 46 years old , unbelievable , seemd only yesterday I was that age.
Going to have a rest after a long day of working in the garden.
thanks for the welcome. Raised on a farm, oldest of 6. And definitely the oldest boy!!! as I worked out in the fields for my Dad & helped with milking, we took milk in to a dairy. The boys were the youngest. Anyhow, my DH & I ran team OTR for 20+ years & were home very little. After I got off the road & we moved to our present location, have really gotten into gardening, which I really, really enjoy. 3 of my 5 DDs seem to also. DD#4 is a horticulturist, probably the one I would have least thought would be. Really enjoy reading about others day-to-day living. Ours is rather mundane.
DH actually retired 1.5 yrs ago, but now has 2 part-time jobs. I am trying to keep my hours under 30 / week but not very successful at that.
DD told me yesterday, Mom, you can't buy anymore plants until you get these planted & I agree with her. So back out to attempt toget the rest in pots or ground. BBL
Okay folks this will be a short one, as we have been on the run all day, and still have church at 6:00. DBIL, who is in the hospital is a sad sad, basket case!!. He is 55, has been married I don't know how many times, abused alcohol and drugs of many varieties, has had serious medical issues over the years, had surgery on his neck 2 years ago, and is in constant pain, got hooked on pain killers, and in general with all that has happened this past year to his mom, literally went off the deep end. He is in a psychiatric hospital in Louisville, and only allowed visits on Sundays from 2-4. That was such a sad visit, seeing all the patients, some wandering around like zombies. DBIL, talks constantly, jumps from subject to subject, and after the visit I thought seriously about asking for admission myself. LOL, not making fun, just trying to cope.
Sounds like all of you have been busy today, I have just rode around first hauling DM to church and back a quick sandwich for lunch, a 60 mile ride (DH drove) to Louisville, and back, and about an hour before we hop in the car again. Whew, my butt is sore!!
DM is doing well, DMIL is still in pain with her back. She has osteoporosis, and the slightest wrong move, and she cracks ribs, etc. So this is what the problem is now. Not a thing that can be done for it either.
Well, gotta go make 2 phone calls before rushing out the door again. On days like this, I feel like a comic strip character, that you never actually see, just see the coat tails as she rushes off!!
I'll check in when we are back from church.
I'm home- butt dragging.....I've never worked so hard in my life!! Dug a new flower bed and moved a ton of plants for her.(DIL) She is clueless. I told her to dig some daisies- she skimmed them off at the top - no root system at all. I dug the rest..... They alll looked pretty good, but she will have to water them - we're in for some hot weather mid week they are saying. She has a major brown thumb too...
I managed to get 4 huge pots of some kind of ground sedum, a big pot of balloon flower, a bunch of small white flowers (have bulbs), and one more I can't think of the name. My pants are all mud stained, my hair wild (windy) and my hands and arms aching.....ouch... But it was a job that needed to be done..
Just as I was ready to go, DH showed up. He can never stay away from where I am - he is nosey!! Of course he wasn't there when there was work to be done. He was home fussing with the trailer he says.
M5- what a sweet pic!! Can't believe they would pose like that! Good luck finding another -I would have passed on that little one too -although it would have been hard!
Carat- Yuck = two headed fish.....hope you don't use the lake water for anything!! The lake we are going to is huge - in fact it has the longest shoreline in Mich (I think....) It has Mc Mansions all on it and I am sure a ton of fertilizer draining into the lake. It is extremely shallow. As kids we called it 'pee water lake' because it got so warm.
I'm beat- think I'll look in the freezer and see if anything jumps out at me.
Maria, your garden is fantastic! How come you come across as a good cook and just now we discover these hidden talents?
Maria, you have been working your butt off and it shows. Beautiful......
Woofens, are those raccoons???
yeppers :)
About 2-3 months old a little under 2 pounds each
Oh my Maria- gorgeous gardens- I'd like to pull up a chair and have a glass of lemonade!!
I think I am getting a bladder infection - just what I need!!!
quote Fame is a vapor, popularity an accident, riches take wing, and only character endures. .
deleted my ramblings i butted in i guess sorry ..
This message was edited May 22, 2006 9:42 AM
Woofens don't you love those little grunty noises the racoons make!! DS;s neighbors rescued several one spring, bet they were sorry later when they raided the garden and the garbage cans!
Maria, here's my Mother's Day Gift...LOL I did drill drainage holes in the bottom and put in some diaper stuffing...
Gotta go dinner's almost burnt.
Sheila
Thanks, glad you loke it!!! Are they not just perfect, M5.? I just used old plastic comtainers.
Here is one more picture of solomom seal that my MIL gave me when was first married, I transplanted them from the farm houes to here, you can also see a white blossom from one of the peon trees I planted last year.
She gave me lots of plants like the coral bells and columbine I still have and gave given quite a few to my daughters and so the tradition goes on
Sarv, please come but I think I will give you some cranberry juice that will help your bladder to heal
This message was edited May 21, 2006 7:51 PM
Oh, Woofens they are so cute. I have never seen one other then in books. Are you going to keep them as pets??? Here that is not legal without a special licence and several classes on wild animals.
Maria, the coral bells are delightful looking. I have plans for those at the new house.
Maria, I hope my Solomon's Seal grows up to be like yours!
Hope to get to bed early tonight but doubt it as I'm pretty wired. Bruce has been here working today. Looks like all the touch up except wall painting where he fixed the drywall is done, and I can do that.
Have many things to research tomorrow for the new place. Bruce suggested when we take up the carpeting, we install the tubing for eventual hot water heat in the floors before new flooring even if we cannot afford the system itself until next year. That extra expense might mean plain ole plywood floors this year, but at least I won't have carpet fuzzies in the ducts and on into my lungs.
RubenT (member here) had some good tips about solar water pumping systems, which look cheap and easy. Certainly want to consider it for the spring and at under $500, it's possible. More money if we had a deep well, but even then still very affordable. Also want to consider a solar hot water system. For this winter, we may put a heat exchanger in my wood stove for hot water to the bathrooms and kitchen.
Looks like no way to get anything but dial-up for the computers for several years. Pooh.
Hope everyone had a glorious Sunday!
Okay, quick comments. Went to church and back, ate a sandwich again, can't believe I got by with that 2 times in one day.
Woofens, that pic is so cute.
Maria, Oh WOW, WOW, and WOW again, I love your garden. Someday, hope mine can look like that!. What a lot of work you have done.
M5, those pictures of the kitties, needs to be entered in the photo contest, do they separate dogs and cats for that? I would hate it that my puppie picture beats your cats! LOL.
Gotta run, Desparate Housewifes is coming on 2 hour grand finale. Can't miss it.
Will be back later.
Darius, we too were told that since we are going to have the carpet out and laying a subfloor for the new wood floor it would be far more economical for us to lay the tubing now, and then when we are ready for the heater and such to just add and hook it all up.
I was looking into solar heating for the water but couldn't find alot of info in a small scale size. Most of the info I found was for commercial use or for complete replacement of general power. If you find a good site please do share....
DH is making ribs and fries for dinner. I can feel the blockages starting already and I haven't even had a bite. Nothing like fresh fries hot out of the oil.
Had my self in a tizzy earlier. Still a bit upset but not much I can do about it from this side of the country. A neighbor has been using the wildflower field to practice for barrels. The fact that another 150 ft away is a mowed and cleared field with barrels already set up for use is what has me upset. She discovered a snake on the property while there and wants the other neighbor to cut and mow since I am gone so the snakes dont come to her house. She lied and said that she discovered the snake while in her field but another neighbor watched her kill the snake on my property after her horse threw her. When I walked the field I found no snake holes or any other kind of hole. I am sure the snakes are more then likely coming from there and I dont want to chance the horses on either side of me. But, dang, what happened to asking before coming on someones property. Sorry, I will step down from the podium.
Hi Folks,
gonna say "Hi" first and then go back and try to catch up.
Spent all afternoon in the garden. It spit rain a bit, but was the best day we've seen in two weeks. The lawn mowers were going all over the place as it's been too wet to mow and everyone's grass was getting long.
I got several of my new hostas planted into the garden as well as a Heuchera (Lime Rickey) and an Astilbe. Also moved one, dug and divided three others and dug one that isn't doing well (see Revolution thread on Hosta forum).
I've posted pics of the new hostas which I have already on the Hosta Forum as well. Supposed to be cold tonight - 3 degrees (Celsius) with maybe some snow. On our traditional planting weekend. Oh brother. May have to cover up my tomatoes out on the patio or bring them in. But they aren't in a tray - just separate pots because it's been raining so much.
I had "Natural" lawn care for the last three years and my lawn is a mess! I can live with dandelions, but there's a whole host of other weeds that weren't there when we were looking after the lawn (and we generally did NOT use weed and feed). We ARE going to use it this year before the city decides to ban it's use.
DD#2 and BF arrived yesterday from Vancouver. DD#1, SIL and grandtwins all came over for dinner. Today, DD#@ and BF took the twins to the hershey chocolate factory in nearby Smith's Falls, ON.
I'm attaching a pic before I go back and read. This is from the handbell party last Thursday. One of my group brought the cake with a picture of our bells on it.
Ann
Hi all
I'm back!
Oh Defoe ... LOL at you. Now don't we all just sound like Mommies comparing their children? :) So sorry you have more troubles on your plate. It's waaay more than any one family should have.
Meezers, I didn't know all that about Siamese's. That was very interesting. Oh and you like hot and sour soup, too? I love that stuff! I fix it a lot but confess to liking the tofu.
So Woofens ... those must be the new pets! Was wondering when you were going to spill the beans. :)
Maria, I think that's just marvelous about you having plants from your MIL. Mine gave me a gardenia she rooted, and now it seems *even* more precious. You just have a way of putting things into perspective. :) Oh and happy Bday to your son. He's probably thinking time goes by pretty fast, too. LOL
Darius, sorry you'll only have dial up but oh at the advantages you'll be gaining. Your new place sounds so pretty.
McCool, I do hope you are still around and not floundering around in the rain up there! :) Let me know if we need to send out an ark. You might need to go by and pick up Maria on the way!
Well, I'm off to check my forums. Will come back before I turn in.
~Elaine~
Now I'm reading and catching up.
Sarv - that's the way to go in regard to the weight. I agree. None of their business.
Sorry your Oriole has moved on, but glad to got to enjoy it for awhile.
Darius - you're right about the fresh trout. I've been to a restaurant not too far from Hamburg, Germany several times which has its own trout pond and catches your fish after you order it. They also have a small game farm, but I think the venison is prepared a bit sooner.
Bonnie, sounds like you had one busy day. Hope it went OK. Is DBIL seriously ill?
You answered that later. How long has he been in the hospital? Is he making any progress?
IO1 or 101 - I wondered too and the font on the web page doesn't make it particularly easy to tell. I guess I missed the earlier explanation. Glad to know, but a little surprised that DG allows two such similar names.
M5 I, myself, would do what ever I could to save my teeth. But I've been blessed with reasonably good ones, if a bit on the brittle side. But no infections. I can see your point. I think it's well documented that tooth iinfections lead to a lot of other problems.
Interesting lesson on Siamese cats and a great picture.
Casey, sounds like a lot of work on your chairs. Hope they work out well.
Hi McCool.
Elaine, glad Sis stopped by and you had a good visit.
Hi Maria - Happy Birthday to your baby. Nice digitalis and even nicer Heuchera in the background.
Hi Greta - hope you got those plants in the ground.
Janis - those little guys would sure keep you busy. Have they been orphaned? We had a family of raccoons that took up residence in the attic above our new kitchen shortly after it was built - 1992. And neighbours have had then take up residence in their chimneys. They may be cute, but they can make an awful mess.
LOL at the two mother's day gifts. But what a great planter.
Sarv - go for the cranberry juice.It'll ward off bladder infections.
Well, I thinkI've made it to the bottom of the thread. First time in several days and probably won't happen again for at least a week.
Might not get back again this evening; so hope you all have a good night.
Ann
Sarv---- How big is the boat motor. Is it outboard??? Just wait till you get on the water and they nail you with the gas prices at the marinas. You might take a very short maiden voyage. Going to be somewhere between $3.50 and $3.75 a gallon here next weekend on the water. summer person neighbor a few houses down took his cruiser and cigarette boat out and filled the tanks. He put over 300 gallons in the two of them. Spent nearly $1000 he said on fuel. That may sound unbelievable to most of you. But I suppose if you can afford two boats that cost close to 1/2 million total I guess you can buy the gas. That cigarette boat will blow 80gals a hr real easy if you want to go fast. Oh Well. He is a dentist. Now you understand why they find those nasty cavities you never knew you had. That 300 gals he just bought will be gone by Sunday provided he leaves them both in the dock most of the day.
My fishing lic went down. Being that I have reached the right age I do not have to buy one anymore. Being a nasty old man does have its advantages
Hi everybody, I'm home again. I was on here briefly a couple of hours ago, but then a thunder storm with high winds and heavy rain rolled through and suddenly I had a blank screen so I just unplugged it and waited a while. My horses were just standing in the corner of the pasture with their tails to the wind like it wasn't any big deal, but now they have all had a very good shower! Some of my flowers look a bit thrashed but might recover. Everything is thoroughly watered, but the lawn will not be mowable for a couple of days.
My ride was a pretty good one. Here's a quick recap, I got into a strong thunderstorm on Friday while driving to the ridecamp. I was on the freeway ( aka known as an expressway or the interstate) and was following a semi, watching the purple/blackish sky beyond it with lightening streaks, listening to the static on the radio, and all of a sudden the sky just opened up and the semi disappeared! I slowed down and tapped the brakes several times to try to warn anybody following me, wondered if the truck in front of me had stopped or if the traffic behind me was still moving fast, and then took the first exit to get off. Kinda scarry there for a couple of minutes. There was at least 3 inches of water on the street and in parking lots. It was still hard to see the street at 30 mph! 15 minutes later it was just a normal rain and I continued my trip. About a hundred miles later I was facing a strong wind along the Columbila River that cut my miles per gallon by 1/3 for about 50 miles and another rainstorm but not as bad as the first one. All this was the result of a storm that was coming in off the Pacific Ocean. (Today's storm was the same system that made a counter clockwise circle and came back at us from the southeast).
The ridecamp was in a grassy field, so about 10 minutes after I unloaded the horse I was wet to my knees, but didn't choose to change out of my wet clothes and shoes until bed time since I wasn't cold. Ride day started out rainy and ended up sunny and feeling like a sauna. Patch was a pretty good boy, and is seeming to be getting over being such a nut case wanting to be ahead of any horse he can see on the trail. We finished in the middle of about 50 riders, 50 miles of forest trails in 7 hrs and 42 minutes, and he still had energy to spare. On the other hand, I didn't, since I had been fighting a cold for several days and the ride didn't help it. The local high school kids provided a hamburger feed as a fundraiser for their sports program after the ride and that helped me refuel. After the awards I walked my horse, made sure he had hay and water for the night and went to bed when it got dark. Nearby friends had invited me to socailize but I was too tired and anyhow I didn't want to share my germs.
I came home to 4 new windows in kitchen, living room and bedroom. Wow, the kitchen window is so clean it looks like it isn't even there, and there are no divisions in the window like the old one had. Of course the horses in the pasture about 15 feet from the house will enjoy the unobstructed view of the people in the house who should be coming outside to give them treats!
Phyllis Diller quotes: Her peek a boo bra booed and then died of starvation. She also said housework won't kill you, but why take the chance? What a character! I also liked her checkbook philosophy. Write checks on account #1 for about a few months until it gets totally messed up, then switch to the account at bank #2 while the first one settles and the bank tells you how much money you have .By that time account #2 is messed up and you switch back to account #1. Repeat when necessary. What a system!
Elaine, I was telling somebody at the ride who works with blind people about your scanacan, she hadn't heard of it and is going to look into it.
I need to catch up with everybody's weekend, but for now I'm just here to say hello and goodnight.
