Sorry I'm late Ladies and Germs, but the coffee is perkin and there's snacks on the counter. Take a load off and chat a while..........
We came from over here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/601295/
Coffee and May 13, Saturday
Aha, worms mine today!!! We have DGS soccer game today between rain drops. I'm wearing boots and my winter coat and gloves!! Plus getting myself a cuppa cappiccino as a reward for sitting out in the nasty weather!
Haven't been able to garden for 4 days and I'm having withdrawal...couldn't even take a garden walk. Feels like fall instead of spring. One more week before we go camping for over a week. It had better warm up!! You can't bring in firewood for campfires in Mich (emerald ash boor problem) so we have to buy firewood and that will be mighty pricey if we still have cold weather.
M5- I only use my laptop in my lazyboy chair- I can't tell you how much I love it. I've gotten used to the keyboard as I never use the old mac.
McC - more nasty weather is heading your way - did our your galoshes and slicker! Oh ya, you'll need mittens too as it is cold!!
Where's Darius - I want to hear all about her adventure - probably snoozing still..
Time for some to fill the tummy
Ugly here, cold an rainy, but yesterday went to pick up DD in Rochester, known for its constantly overcast skies, and halfway there the skies were blue and the sun was shining! We had a whole afternoon in sunshine with puffy clouds floating by, apple blossoms and 73 degrees. Halfway back we re entered the yuck, which I guess is staying over the notheast for the foreseeable future.
The sun made the drive totally worth it!!
good Morning every one, posted last night but DG ate it , ( I clicked on send, it would not go through finally it said I have sent a message but but it never came up) I even saved it it then did not know how to get it back to post it again, lol that's how much I know about computers. I gave up and went to bed,.
Worked in the garden yesterday before the monsoon came, planted the rest that needed to around 50 annuals and perennials , Dahlias are picking through the ground hope all this rain we are getting is not going to drown them.
After I did some errands and guess what I bought some more planrs!
Yes, McCool I am being taken out for bruncjh on Mother's Day, it will be nice but not weather wise, I do not mind rain but after 24 hours I wish it would stop, too depressing.
Casey, I never heard of poison ivy either nor did I see one till I came here and wondered what that awful rash was that itched me out of my mind, till me husband explained to me what it was,I was very carefull after that
My daughters were terribly allergic to it, their eyes would close up and their faces looked as if they had mumps, fingers were so swollen they could not put them together. They would even get it in the middle of the winter putting some logs into the fireplace, what a time they had . Moral of the story, Casey, stay away from PI but woodbine is very harmless.
Sarv, you would never make a farm wife with all those animals around, LOL I hardly ever use my lap top, the last time was a year ago while in Europe, it is great for traveling vut for me that is about it,
Went back and c aught up on yesterdays posts, first of all
HOORAY darius, can't wait to hear all about it and hopefully see pictures!
Sounds like Woodbine is the proper name for Va. creeper, never looked it up since it's always just there!
Maria-I get poison ivy the way your daughters do-last time they brought other doctors in to look, I was like a lab specimen, a curiosity! I can get it from firewood too- or loading bales of hay. I'm just careful now.
McCool and the others who offered wishes on my adventure yesterday-No, DD was NOT packed. She pointed out, after I got there, that she didn't have enough boxes and bags to put things in. Luckily, I had grabbed a roll of garbage bags on the way out the door. Since it was gorgeous weather there, I sat outside chatting with other parents of irresponsible kids (I didn't meet a single one with a responsible kid!!) while she stuffed things in garbage bags!
There was a collection area for donations, so we left behind her lamps, carpet, unopened food, laundry detergent, whatever I could get away with! What a great idea that was! And someone's going to hit the jackpot with that haul!
The cow and bull stories are great. I remember a little bull showing up in our yard as a kid, my brother grabbed the bird cage cover and ran out to try to have a bull fight! I was horrified, expecting to see him killed!! LOL, kids....
I have CRS but wanted to say hi to all, and I so enjoyed catching up last night, you guys are a hoot!!
Good morning all,
A few words before breakfast and pick-up. I still have carpet cleaners coming in 3 hours and have a lot to pick up.
dmc - so glad you didn't have to drive in the crud ALL the way to Rochester and back. I love Rochester in May. Don't imaging you had time to see them but I bet the Lilacs are in full bloom for the Lilac Festival and on East Avenue, there are a lot of gorgeous Magnolias in front of some of the big mansions. We now see a few magnolias here in Ottawa, but never as nice as in warmer zones. Were you able to get back before dark? We, like you, are supposed to have cool and wet until at least Monday.
Darius - great news on the property. I look forward to learning more about it.
My sympathies to those who suffer from poison ivy. I've either been very lucky or have an immunity. I know I've been exposed to it, but have never knowingly been infected. And it certainly grows in wooded areas around here. I used to have a neighbour who had major allergic reactions to PI.
Elaine, I finished the smaller afghan I was working on earlier and am working on two more (since I have grand twins). they are progressing slowly. Both are a variation on granny squares. Amy's has a flower in the middle and Nolan's sort of a wagon wheel. I need 120 squares for each. At this point I have the inner sections all done for both afghans. I have the second round, which is some pointy leaves made with cluster stitches, done for about 35 of Amy's and I've got the outer two rounds which are both white done on 15 squares. I bought three humongous balls of white yarn at Walmart and am trying to figure out how many squares I can do with each. They told me three months to return them if I had excess. On Nolan's I have a few squares completed and quite a few have the second round, but lately I've been concentrating on Amy's.
As far as sewing, I do very well when I have a deadline - such as I would like the dress for the awards dinner on Wednesday. LOL (If I don't make it, I do have a back-up).
Did I tell you all that seven hostas arrived yesterday? They are all in good condition and are soaking in water in the porch. A couple of them had not yet unfurled. All are single eyes and I think that I will put several of them in pots first. I have ordered a few from another source which will arrive later. I think, from talking to that other source, that fewer of them will be just one eye. We'll see when they get here. Oh yes, and I'll pick up more that I've pre-ordered at the plant sale tomorrow.
Well, I've spent 30 minutes typing. Time to see how many others have posted in that time. Have a good day.
Ann
Elaine, I'll tell Lerae your oopsie - she'll love it!
Kandyce is coming this morning to pick up Kayleigh at the neighbor's. DS called me last night and said there were problems with the neighbors that are watching baby K. He asked me to call Kandyce, so I did, talked a long time. She said that the neighbors told her they would bring the baby up to see her every Tues and Thurs but have quit doing that. She called them a couple of times this week and they don't answer, nor return her phone calls. Their daughter told K that they're going to call Social Services because they don't think K can take care of her properly. They think that she should be all better and able to take care of baby K full time.
Oh boy, so this morning, she is coming down with a friend to pick up baby K and get all her stuff. We discussed the counseling, how it's going, etc, also the mentoring moms program and how soon she is going to start that; also what her goals are regarding herself, baby and DS; how she feels about trying to care for baby fulltime, does she feel capable?, etc; I think she is making progress towards all these goals but partly she is scared to death she'll do something wrong and the baby will hate her. I assurred (sp?) her, baby's don't work that way. :)
We decided that Kandyce will keep the baby till Tues, my day off, then I will go up there and pick her up and keep her for a couple of days, and then bring her back again for a couple of days and then see how that goes. We'll try that for awhile and hopefully with the help she's getting, soon she will have the confidence to take care of her full time. hopefully.... :)
Well, I better get in gear and get ready for work. I am so sick and tired of working every Sat for the past 14 months, except last Sat, IA RU! That was a wonderful day!!

Ann, you are most lokely not allergic to it, my DH never got it nor did our sons. The young man who takes care of my lawn, pulls it out with his bare hands, said he never had it, while I cringe, lol, but I would not advise you not to do that, lol
I do miss sewing, knitting and quilting but my eyes will not let me, even here on the computer I can stay very long with typing especially since I do not know how to it the correct way.
There is still banana bread left, it even tasted better now then when taken out of the oven, so have some.
Good Morning, GOBs and 'ettes!
Here's the property we have under contract:
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/601652/
Like Maria, I typed a long post last night, addressed everyone, and added information about the new horse, but couldn't get the dang computer to transmit it. What a big waste of time that was. Is it DG or my ISP? I want to complain to somebody, but don't know who.
This morning the sun is shining, but it is cool. Hope that it warms up today, as I am tired of the damp cool we have had.
Got some errands to run this morning, and need to grab a few things from the grocery. So it will be a busy day.
I may try to recreate the post from last night later.
To everyone hope you have a good day.
looking good darius! woohoo!
I'm snitching a piece of the banana bread Maria. YMMMM, so good with my coffee this morning.
Ann~ yes yes those were the afgans I was talking about. Sounds like they're coming right along. :) The hostas sound really pretty. Mine are still doing good, too except where the squirrels broke off one of the leaves. Okay, let me ask what you mean when you say one eye or single eye?
dmc~ so sorry your DD wasn't ready but I suspect you "fixed her wagon" as Mother use to say? You went prepared and got to visit while she *still* had to do the work. LOL
Kooger, am saying prayers that Kandyce will be able to handle things, and that sweet little one won't be the one to suffer. :)
Darius~ just saw your news on your thread and am so very pleased for you. Will be saying prayers that all works out. The property is absolutely gorgeous!
I am not allergic to poison ivy but my DH sure is. We have poison sumac, and he is particularly allergic to it. He can be in the vacenity where property is being burned and get it from the smoke. He gets *very* sick.
Well, once again ... I've had a thousand interruptions, so I'm going to post for now. Hope everyone has a wonderful day.
~Elaine~
Suns out, have to ferret out some cheap shingles since Star moved to Canada. Rhubarb crisp is in the oven, the new convection oven at that! Time for a fire to burn up all the scrap wood so I can move around the shop again, plant a flat of Coleus, a bunch of poppies and move the seed flats into the sunroom for a more constant temp. Hope all are well, cool news about Darius' possible home.

McCool, fearless no, brainless sometimes...:-). He has been in the field for sometime and everytime he sees me working in the flower bed or emptying the garbage he just stands there and bawls, so I gave him a couple *whoop cows*( what we use around here to get cows to come for feed and checking on) and he just stood there and bawled more so when he was at the gate and not running away or trying to kill my dog I was just gouing to feed him and hope he stayed outa the yard. He let me scratch his ears and then open the gate without geting froggy then followed me and the bucket with no problems. I found his owner and he is a registered Bull and a bottle baby/show bull and loves people so that explained why he is so friendly. The guy brought over a sack of sweet feed incase he comes visiting again...
I too responded to every one last nite only to loose it to space so lets see...
love the whoopsie that is to cute...
darius congrats on the new place keeping my fingers crossed for ya..
dmc, are they ever *ready* to move without help??
Kooger, keeping Kandyce and all in my prayers for it to all work out...
Ann, love the site and wish I could remember how to do those afghans my MIL showed me years ago and now I cannot remember...
~~~~~waves to alllI missed and you are in my thoughts gotta go water plants...bbl....Lauri
I do not think it is your computer, Defoe, DG is slow picking it up and by the time it does it goes poof
Planted more stuff this motning in between the rain, now it is pouring again
Maria~ please set out some buckets for me and catch some of that rain and Email it okay? Mine is getting low. ;) Oh and give Samson a big hug. Has he done anything else naughty lately?
My jasmine my DF gave me last week-end is looking sort of sick. I do hope it pulls through as it's so so special since my Daddy gave it to me. Anyone got any brain storms?
~Elaine~
Don't know anything about Jasmin, Susan, except it smells nice, I remember it from the gardens in Vienna!
Wish I could send you some rain all you want, how about blowing those clouds down to you, unfortunately that will not work either, here we get weather from all directions it never goes the opposite way, unless it decides finally to go out into the Atlanticthat's New England for you
PS, Samson is his usual naughty self, barks and growls at me when he does not get his way, lol
It is just pouring here - and I mean buckets.....I never did get my remote rain guage set up!! Probably will do that after all the storms...
DH and I went to the little local greenhouse around the corner and got DMIL some dahlias. Got her a huge pink one and then a tray of smaller yellow ones - one of which was variagated. We stopped and delivered them and stay for quite awhile- she was actually pleasant. While we were there another DB came over to see her. He was looking for some guns that DFIL hid in the house somewhere. He brought a metal detector with him. He will end up taking them all which will really pi** off DH!!
DS is coming over to go shopping with DH. I told DH that I want some 4x6 to border my last bed. He always gets me something for mother's day even tho I'm not his mother - although I feel like I am sometimes!! LOL
I just put a spinach-portabella mushroom pizza in the oven - sounds great!! I'm starved....(what's new huh?)
Can't wait to hear/ see more of your new digs Darius!!
Hello All!
Well, my stomach is really upset! Combo of antibiotics and pain killers. I had unexpected oral surgery on Thursday. 23 stitches! I won't go into details and bore everyone but this whole mouth thing started about 6 weeks ago when I had to have 2 lower right molars removed. It's been going downhill since then. I am on a liquid diet and frankly do not have much of an apetite (sp). Swelling has thankfully gone down so I don't look so scary! Thought I could handle going to work yesterday...got sent home almost immediately.
I am currently at work managing the phones and greeting guests. Saturdays are really busy at the dealership. I had someone cover me this am so I only have to work 1/2 day. I think I should have not taken a full pain med! I THINK I am remembering everything but it's becoming very obvious that I am not! Think this could be called 'drug induced CRS' lol!
I have enjoyed reading everyone's posts....will not even try to remember who said what.
Know that ya'll are in my thoughts!
carole in atlanta
Oh Carole ... how *perfectly* horrible!!! I am a wimp when it comes to the dentist and tooth pain. I would rather hurt anywhere else or go to *any* other kind of doctor rather than that. I don't know why but I have a phobia about it. I still remember what it was like going and not getting novacaine. Do take care of yourself and get some rest when you get home.
Hugs to you ... Elaine
Carole from Arlanta, Did you get the recepi on D-mail?
Ugh, woke up sick again this morning, must be a rebound from last time, feel like a wet noodle. Put ribs in the oven regardless, hoping to recuperate before tomorrow. Checked the house, Darius, looks well kept up, good job.
Feeble ~~~~ as I head for the couch.
Sheila
Hi There,
Spent a couple of hours in the garden. Didn't rain, but wasn't overly nice. Probably perfect transplanting weather. Got all but one of the new hostas out of water. One is in the garden and the others are in pots. The other will go in a pot once I get it glued back together. It's a nice ceramic pot with a saucer which has come loose. They only glued it together at three spots. Happened to another pot which I have a short time ago. I just used LOT of hot glue. But I can't find any unused hot glue sticks - guess I'll have to go buy some, but I'm not sure where. I got mine at Joanne Fabrics in the US.
I also planted most of my Amaryllis bulbs out into the garden for the summer. Missed getting one outside or I would have done all. Also transplanted four hostas already in the garden. Three were in a temporary holding bed and the fourth I just thought would look better in my new garden. And I planted a few annuals into the garden as well and potted up some other seedlings into larger pots.
Gardening lcothes are now in the dryer and I will stay in for the rest of the day.
Kooger, how fortunate Kandyce and Kayleigh are to have your support. I still keep my fingers crossed. No matter how much support Kandyce has it's not going to be easy for her.
Bonnie - do you have a word processing program? (Most use Word, but I think WordPerfect is vastly superior). Anyway, if you can't get your post to send, try copying it into Word and saving it to try again later. I sometimes do it even if I'm not having difficulty sending just so I have a back-up if it goes poof.
Darius - looks like a good property.
Elaine and eye of a hosta is a single division from the roots. sometimes you get luck when you buy new hostas and set several eyes. Other times you have to wait for the plant to multiply and grow additional eyes. Re the afghans, I like the granny squares because they are portable. I can carry them around with me and if I have to wait anywhere, I can work on it. I don't watch a lot of TV, but can do a couple during the evening news.
Sarv, I wish you'd keep that rain in Michigan insteading of sending it east to us. My seedlings were just about drowning when I went out this morning. And they don't promise us much relief until sometime next week.
Carole, sorry to hear about the dental problems. Sounds dreadful. Hope you continue to improve and are back to eating normally soon.
Waving ~~ to anyone else who's out there.
Ann
Sheila, take care. Hope you feel much better soon.
Ann
Carole and m5-hoping you're both feeling better FAST....yuck.
The rest of us I guess are just wet and cold! I ran out and planted 3 daylilies that came- that's enough in this weather!!
Jeremy has decided I should go paddle a canoe for Mother's Day. He says we can take a cooler, a digger, snippers/cutters and I can take samples to my hearts content, and he won't nag me to hurry up.
Sounds like a great idea to me. We haven't had a real day of recreation in a very long time. So we'll be up and off in the morning doing that.
Molly
;^)))
Sounds like a great plan Molly!
Well, I got my errands done, and came home and promptly started cooking for tomorrow. I promise, next year someone else is gonna do the Mother's day thing, or we will eat out,I ain't gonna do it again. .
DGD has been out riding the new horse. BTW, her name is Jade.
DMIL was experiencing chest pain this morning, and they took her back to the hospital. Just heard from SIL, and they admitted her. Don't know how long she will be there, or what the diagnosis is. So we are going to see her tonight, to check on her. Get one mother out of the hospital, and the other one goes in.
Bought annuals to plant in a new bed for DM for mother's day. Too wet to get them in now, so it will be sometime next week. Also bought plants for the mothers at church tomorrow. So it was a flower shopping frenzy, but none for me.
Not gonna comment right now, have to head to the shower to get ready to go to the hospital.
Viann, I thought I saved the post in word, but looked this morning, and it wasn't there either. So maybe I have a word eating computer!!. I always mean to save them, but this has happened several times.
I will check in later.
Well, just came in from outside. We've been grunging out there all day today. I'm hot and sweaty but just had to come in here and check on everyone.
Gosh, am so sorry to see we have so many sick folks in our midst. Meezers, are you allergic to your DH? Sure hope you get to feeling better *real* soon.
Defoe, I just don't know how much more you're going to be able to handle. Please know I'm always here if you need to unload. Am saying prayers that it's not serious and she'll be right as rain soon.
Well, gonna get up and get in the shower. Will catch y'all later on.
~Elaine~
FC - I always get major sick from antibio/pain meds. I almost would rather have the pain then be sick to my stomach. Happened with both surgeries I had - came home sicker than when I went in!!
M5- crappy feeling again!! What's happening to you!! Sure hope it passes quickly and you can enjoy tomorrow!!
defoe- this is my FIRST year NOT entertaining for mother's day. And I can tell you I am surely enjoying not cooking, grocery shopping and cooking. I did give the upstairs a quick once over (cleaned off my counter where I potted things all winter) and things look pretty spiffy, if I do say so myself. DH even made a comment on it.
I'm going to slice up some strawberries and serve them over angel food cake - that is if anyone wants dessert after the buffet tomorrow. My folks will probably come out for some games, so they'll have some.
Just made 6 cookies in the toaster oven. I get those kind that come in a pkg and you break off what you want. I ended up deting 4 of them and now feel icky. When will I learn!!
Been watching the bluebirds - they have taken up residence in our birdhouse. I'm surprised the sparrows have left them alone. I suspect the sparrows already had their babies and the house wasn't being used at the moment. Sure hope we get some babies!
Vi - sorry about the rain- it is still coming down here...two more days of it they are saying. The ground must be saturated. As soon as it lets up a bit, I need to tromp out to the greenhouse to check on things.
I'm sitting on the heating pad and reading a book, see ya later tator!!
It's getting late yall. I set the daily up on time tonight. Tomorrow I won't even turn my computer on til we get home from canoeing. I am trying to resist that last hosta coop. Almost making it too, how about you?
See you over here later tomorrow:
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/601840/
It has been a busy busy day. Just finished with the cooking and early prep for tomorrow, when it was time to shower and go to the hospital to check on DMIL. She has congestive heart failure, this is not a new condition, but was low on blood, so they were bringing the 2nd pint when we were leaving. So now there will be tests to find out what up with the blood. I think it would be cheaper for me to build a hospital, to take care of family illness, and take on a few other patients to make it profitable!!
Sorry that others here are under the weather. Gosh, please get well to enjoy Mother's day tomorrow.
Darius, sure am hoping and praying that your land deal goes through. Won't it be great to have a real home again? You can get all your stuff out of storage, and not have to wonder what is where.
FC, mouth pain it the worst. I have had numerous surgeries, grafts and other procedures fighting gum disease. Right now at 59, I have braces. This is to bring a crooked tooth in line, so that I can get a crown, (a double crown) with the tooth next to it. Then I need a bridge on the other side. So I have been averaging going to the dentist about once a month.
Not gonna try to recreate the post that was lost last night. Surfice it to say, everybody was mentioned, and I felt caught up, only to have it go poof.
101 thanks for the offer of a shoulder. Right now, I am holding it together. The only way to get through a day, is to put one foot after the other, and I have always made it!! I answered the swimming pool question last night. It is bought, and I am on a waiting list to get it installed. Supposedly in about 3 weeks.That will probably be good timing, as DGD school is out in 15 days.
Plan on getting pics of the horse tomorrow, for all who are interested. She has a great gait, and seems to be fairly gentle. She hadn't been ridden for awhile, so DH had to take her for a spin first to get her settled. DGD almost had an upset just after getting on her for the first time. DH's rat terrier ran in and grabbed the horse's tail, and she jumped sideways about 5 feet. DGD managed to stay seated, but was pretty cautious, but once the dog was banned to the truck, everything was fine.
Well, off to check some other forums before bedtime. Hope you all have a good peaceful night.
Hi all
Just stopping by for a quick look see before I turn in. Got to get up in the a.m. so need to put this buggy in the bed. :)
Molly sounds like you have a wonderful day on tap for tomorrow. Sure hope the weather is good and you have a first class M day!
Defoe, am sorry you had to do all the prep work for yours ... and to have a sick MIL to see about plus a MOM on the mend ... well just know you're in my thoughts and prayers.
Meezers and Carole ... sure hope the two of you are better by tomorrow and you're able to enjoy your day. Meezers, I'd sure love to be one of your family members so I could help with that barbecue. I've copied your recipe and intend to try it. It *really* looks scrumptious. :)
Maria~ hope you have plans with your family tomorrow.
Darius~ just wanted to tell you again that I'm praying all goes well for you and the new place. It looks *just* like you. LOL
Well to those I'm missing, please forgive me and let me get by with a wave tonight. ~~~ I'm bushed and need to turn in.
Night night ... Elaine
