We are continued from here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/600986/
Wake up, rise and shine, time to put on the coffee and where's the donuts?
Sit and chat a while before going out to work in the heat.
Coffee and Friday May 12th
Mmmmmm, I love a juicy worm.......ahhhhh I mean donut!
More rain, no golf. My partner and I made an executive decision last night that our league was taking a rain day, so no golf. It's not raining at the moment, but it rained all day yesterday and they won't allow the motor carts out when the fairways are soggy. Most of our members take carts, so we cancelled.
Now I am going to get busy with inside stuff in case it clears up for the weekend. Brrrrr....got the furnace going, it's pretty darn chilly out there.
BBL
Sheila
Good morning,
Will post in bit. First, before I lose the link which I've copied,
http://landscaping.about.com/library/bl_virginia_creeper.htm
Casey - I think your vine is a Virginia Creeper.
Now I'll go back and catch up on last night.
Ann
Molly you need to change your 'sit and chat before going out into the HEAT' - it is 34 deg here with windchll in the 20's. Now doesn't that stink!!! We had 60mph winds yesterday- trees and power down. The brugs I planted out are stripped of all their leaves. Poor babies!
DB called last night and wondered what we were doing for DM for mother's day.. I didn't tell him that I invited DM/DF out to our house for dinner as I didn't want to entertain everyone!! LOL I am just tired of hosting everything. So we are going OUT to dinner. It will cost an arm and a leg, but at least I don't have to bust butt doing everything. Now I need to call and see if reservations are needed - that may be a problem since we are so late in deciding what to do. Haven't heard a peep from my own boys- they will be surprised that I'm not doing a big meal. This may start a new chapter in our lives!!
Mary, I knew it wasn't you that had the buckets - just a moment of CRS must have hit!
Maria and Defoe - of course we want your recipes!! Silly gals...
Lauri- a bull at your gate!! Yikes...that would send me for cover!!
Vi- glad to hear the FC guy is not messing things up completely! Maybe he will work out after all.. Phew, all your practicing - you must have strong muscles!!
I'm watching the today show - they are on the new huge cruise ship - man does it look like something else!! I'm not a cruise person, but I would like a look see (sea??) at one! LOL
Take care - keep warm
Well, it rained again last night (I just love it) and Sarv, yep you are right. Even here it's 53, too cold to go out barefooted for sure.
Living in the south for so many years, I forget that it is a little chillier in other parts of the country. I have to force myself to look at a calendar to know what seasons are where.
Well of course now that I live in Zone 8b, I know doggone well when it's freezing outside.
Molly
:^)))
Pouring here and in the 50's boy I hope we don't get 30's tomorrow!!
I only have a few minutes, I'm off to Rochester to pick up DD#1 from college for summer break - so out there almost 4 hours, load the car, and drive all the way back in heavy rain. Yuck. She BETTER BE PACKED!!! (Watch, that won't have occurred to her. Told DH if she's not ready I'll go to a hotel and wait. Think positive/
Casey, your vine is what we call Virginia Creeper. I don't know what woodbine is. I'm very careful with vines since the last time I got poison ivy I had a severe reaction and was on prednisone. If I see any it gets pulled by someone else!!
sarv-Mother's day is supposed to be your day too, can't believe you'd have to do all that work. I will do what I feel like, although it won't be good gardening or riding. So maybe I'll get a good book and lie in bed reading!!
Ann-I don't much care for the Schmoozy types myself. I got an MBA- boy did I meet plenty of them who devote their lives to ruminating about how to get everyone else to do the work!! AAARRGGGHH! I g uess that's what "management" is all about
m5-furnace cranking here too, and five days of rain in the forecast, so.....time for a good book!! And ouch my knees still ache, so I'm not too, too sorry.
Okay I have to run, I read all yesterday's posts but will have to settle for waving and wishing you all a good day~~~~~~~~
Hi Molly,
Wouldn't mind some of that heat you have. We've got a cool rainy weekend coming up.
Central Experimental Farm, which is now inside Ottawa, has a rare plant sale on Sunday and one of the nurseries from which I've ordered will be bringing my order in for me to pick up. Yay!
Have a look at the Exp. Farm site - maybe the picture collections
http://www.friendsofthefarm.ca/aboutthefarm.htm
It's also a wonderful place to take the grandtwins. We have a grandparents' membership which includes the Aviation Museum, Experimental Farm and the Science Museum. Kids like the Science Museum best, but at the Exp Farm, they can see baby animals being born in season and lots of other interesting things too. And the display gardens are Ottawa's favourite wedding picture site. When my daughter got married I think there were at least 7 other wedding parties there at the same time.
Bonnie, I think successor will pass his review just fine, but maybe we can get across to him the importance of a few things he puts off.
Well, I'm gonna get a glass of OJ and get ready for Aquafit. Will see if I can stave off starvation until brunch time.
Back later. Hope you all have a good day.
Ann
Well, I am up, fingers working somewhat, eyes not open good, although have had my coffee. I think this chilly weather is telling my body to get back in bed and get warm. The furnace is running here also. Rained again yesterday and last night, so it is a damp cold. Since I am doing the Mother's Day thing at my house again, must get to work on chasing the dust bunnies, and moving the dust around on the furniture. Will check in later, to see what's happening. Afraid to start cleaning in the bedroom first, the bed just may snatch me!!
Later.
Good morning, I'm on the fast track to get headed to my ride, so I'll just wave at everyone. ~~~~
Here is the banana bread recipe for all who asked for it. I posting it here rather then in the other thread since I want that young lady who asked for it to see it, but first of all , Good Morning Every One!
Sift: into large bowl and put aside:
1cup of all purpose flour
1 cup of whole wheat flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
In electric mixer:
2 large eggs
5 tbls soft unsalted butter
1/2 cup sour cream
1 tbls lemon juice
5 very ripe bananas
1 cup sugar
mix till smooth, slowly beat in dry ingredients, fold in 1cup chopped pecans or walnuts
pour into prepared loaf pan, bake at 350' for 1 hour and 45 mininutes
( it may need to bake longer , make sure you test it)
Morning everyone!
Brrrr this is *some* weather. Am not having to use the heat, but it's definitely got a nip in the air today. I was reading somewhere about how all these daily temperature changes and humidity spikes stressed the plants. Hadn't really thought of it in that light, but it makes perfect sense.
Bye Mary ~~~ at you. Have a nice time and we'll miss you while you're gone.
sarv, I usually have my MIL over also. Guess I was always lucky, though, as my DIL and family are usually doing their own thing with theirs. It's nice with just the 4 of us. :)
Defoe, forgot to ask when will you get the pool? We were yacking so hard yesterday, I completely forgot.
dmc, hope your DD is all packed and ready! So sorry the weather is so horrid for you.
Molly, you must be in a nice little spot to be getting those night rains. We didn't get any rain here last night. Will be using some of my rain water.
Well, guess I'd better get up and be industrious like Defoe. Need to chase a few of my own dust bunnies around. I've been lacking in that department this week as I've been making up for lost computer time.
Y'all have a great day.
~Elaine~
Hi Maria~. We posted at the same time. Oh my goodness ... that looks heavenly!! I've already copied it and am planning it for this week-end. This is *exactly* what I need for my Mother's Day dinner. This is right up her alley. Thanks so much! Thank goodness I already have the bananas in the freezer.
Maria, that does look heavenly! I cheated and used Bisquik and got my black bananas out of the freezer and made banana bread. As pennance for using the mix, I threw in pecans and choco chips, and it's edible, but a little dry for my taste. Better than nuthin'!
Done two load of laundry, dusted, emptied the dishwasher, got some BBQ sauce started for the ribs on Sunday, and put the down comforter away (might have been a mistake, it's cold out and we saw a few snowflakes yesterday).
Took out a pumpkin pie that I picked up a while back, let it thaw on the counter. Asked DH if he wanted a piece last night after we watched Survivor.....he said, "sure". I headed for the kitchen, tipped the box up a little,to open the end, and discovered............are you ready for this? ONE UNBAKED PUMPKIN PIE! And of course, the filling spilled into the box...talk about CRS....I have no idea why I assumed it was a baked pie....Yuck, what a mess. So I poured the filling into a bowl, put it and the whipped cream I made into the frig. So, this morning I have to make a pie crust, and bake the remains. LOL I don't like store crust anyway, so it's not all that bad but, geeeeeeez, I feel like an absolute idiot!
Good plan Sarv, hope you are able to get reservations somewhere. We usually swap locations for most holidays and such, as I quit being the chief cook and bottle washer some time ago.
That looks like a Virginia Creeper all right, I put one in about 4 years ago and the first year, it got enormous, so I moved it to an arched trellis near the black walnut. I don't know if it's the tree or the hard winters, but it hasn't grown like that since, and the winter kill keeps it nicely in check. They can get invasive.
I'm sure our gardens are enjoying the prolonged rain, but I sure hate looking out at the gray skies. Wonder if we'll be able to grill the veggies on Sunday.
V'Ann, is there anyway to extend your successor's "trial period" for another six months? That might be the key to making sure he picks up on those jobs he likes to avoid. His type seems to not want to learn the nittygritty of the job, and let others do it. Then, when he runs out of volunteers he'll be looking for a niche in some other social service organization and leave yours in a mess.
~~ at all, washer's beeping again. BBL
Maria - 5 bananas??? Hmm, I'll need to hit the store for some more black ones!! Mine only calls for 2 and I usually can round up 2 of them.
It continues to be just nasty here. Our local gardens are having their annual plant sale to make money - what rotten timing. Plus this week is tulip time in Holland (just west of me) - such a shame - it is a big people drawer. With all the wind, I'm sure the tulips are history. Sounds like the rotten weather is visiting other people too.
Well, I am off to the store - need to get the fixings for 'pretzel dessert' - yummy. I'll whip up a batch of that in case my boys stop over on Sunday. Need to do some cleaning too....work is never done here..
Hi all,
The banana bread recipe looks great, but will have to wait till post Weight Watchers. I think the black bananas in my freezer number just 2 as well. BTW, I'm down about 6 pounds since I started really working on it - about 10 days before I went to WW. Only another 14 to go. LOL
Cold and rainy. Think I'm gonna go sew. If I want to have a dress ready for Wednesday, I'd better get started. and I need to start picking up stuff. My carpets will be cleaned tomorrow morning. In some places they are hard to find.
I'll peek in later.
Ann
Well, I have been working, cleaning like a maniac. I have dusted, vacuumed, cleaned the bathrooms, did 3 loads of laundry, and now need to damp mop the kitchen floor. I completely forgot about an appointment I have this afternoon at 2:00, until just minutes ago, so I need to get in the shower, and get ready. Don't have to drive far, but have a couple of stops to make on the way. I will comment when I get back.
I just finished catching up on y'days thread and now this one. I've already had a full day and I still have to go to work this afternoon. I went to the Commissary this morning as they are having a case lot sale this weekend and bought an SUV full of goodies, i.e. canned veggies, boxes of brownie mix, paper towels, toidy paper, garbage bags, fabric softener, etc. Then I delivered the portion my sister asked me to get.....I should have made her come get it since she pooped out on me and didn't go with me like she agreed to do. I had two grocery carts stacked to overfull with stuff and had to wrestle it all on my own. Bah! see if I do that for her again :-(
Then I came home, made my lunch to carry to work this afternoon, watered the plants and fetched the mail, put in a load of dishes in the dishwasher, made the bed, ran the sweeper in the kitchen and took the dogs for a trot, loaded my vehicle up with a laptop computer I'm selling to one of the Ultra Sound Techs at work, along with a printer (a 3 in 1, printer, scanner, copier), and finally came in for a bite and to check the e-mail.
Well, I had to laugh when I read "lauriewilson's" post from y'day about the bull in her yard. I have a story, not about a bull, but about a cow that got loose from the pasture down the road from us who wandered into our front yard. Remember when talking books were on cassette tapes? Well, I was weeding a place in the front yard, had head phones on and never heard a thing. All I know was I was on my knees pulling weeds, and all of a sudden I'm flat on my face and this cow is licking my tuchas. I was so shocked I didn't even know what to do. I didn't realize what had happened until I rolled over and saw this cow standing over me, very nonchalantly chewing her cud. I pulled the head phones off and started laughing so hard I almost made shishi in my pants! I bet that poor cow thought I was just the dumbest thing it had ever come across. I hadn't a clue as to what to do with the cow, so I got up off my backside, went and pulled some buttercup flowers up from the side of the embankment on the neighbours property and waved them in front of her and she followed. I actually got her to go back across the road with me and through the area where the fence was down. I knocked on the farmers door and told the lady in the house this cow had gotten out and I was returning her. The lady thanked me for returning her cow, apologized for any inconvenience and handed me a plastic tub of cottage cheese she had just finished making and was going to refrigerate. What a nice reward! I'm also glad the cow was a pretty easy going Holstein and I was grateful she didn't get fluffed at me for taking her back.
Enough procrastinating, it's time I get my tuchas into gear and get ready for work. I hope everyone has a wonderful day and a great weekend. To those who are Mum's, Happy Mum's Day on Sunday.
With care, ~Babs~
Oh Babs ... you are *really* something! LOL I've been chased by many a bull growing up when cutting across the pasture to go fishing but never met face to face like that with a cow!! Whew toooo funny!
Well, both my gardenias are blooming and all I want to do is stand outside and smell them. I cut a few blooms to enjoy in the house. I'm a sucker for them. :) McCool, your candles are the *real thing*!
Got some washing done, bathrooms cleaned and knocked some dust off the furniture but didn't do a lot of anything else in the house today. Potted up a couple of herbs that were gettin too big for their britches sort to speak and played on the puter. Put on fresh coffee as I got my DG mug, so if anyone wants a fresh cup, just help yourself. :) Am fixing Shrimp Scampi and parmasan roasted asparagus tonight so don't have to get in the kitchen too early. I use those easy peel shrimp, and it sure cuts the work down. Hope all is having a nice afternoon.
~Elaine~
Just peeking in before I head out to Fabricland. Want to get some fabric which will co-ordinate with some I already have if possible. Am making a trial garment to check the fit on the dress I want to make and wear next Wednesday. Would be nice to be able to use the trial garment if it fits reasonably well.
Just received an order of 7 hostas. Also need to pick up some bleach while I'm out for sterilizing my tools as I'll be starting to move and pot up hostas. These arrived bare root and I think I'll put them into pots at first. Hey Kelly - how do you go about sterilizing your tools? Most of the web sites I looked at said "sterilize the tools" with no guidelines as to the strength of the bleach solution. I know you don't need much to sterilize plastic tubs at the Food Cupboard.
Ann
Well, I went to my appointment, and came back to fold some laundry, and start supper.
M5, I would imagine it is too cold to golf much anyway. God plans these days so that we can get the inside stuff done!! Reminds me of my first pumpkin pie I baked, mom gave me the recipe, and doubled the milk, and I cooked that pie all afternoon, never did get firm!!
Sarv,Don't really know what our temp is, but it is very uncomfortable, with a light drizzle still falling. Too bad about the brugs, will they come back? I laughed about not telling DB about Sunday plans hehehe!!
Molly, you are sure getting the rain, I bet you are glad it it cooler, as it will be a break for you.
dmc, hope DD is packed and ready to go, and you don't have to loose your temper. Have a safe trip.
Maria, thanks for the Banana Bread recipe. Can't wait to make it.
Mary, have a good ride, and be safe, pack the long johns just in case.
101 Temperature changes affect everything. I just wish the plants had little sweaters we could put on them!! Bet they get cold. About the pool, I am on a Waiting List.
Babs, what a story. I would have been looking quicklyl to see what/who was licking my backside. Glad you got a reward with the entertainment.
M4, and Sarv, please give us the recipes for the BBQ sauce, and Pretzel Dessert, respectively.
Since I don't really have a recipe for hush puppies, and I don't measure anything, here is an approximate description of how I make them.
Chopped onion, about 3/4 cup,
1 1/2 C self risiing corn meal ( I use Martha White Buttermilk)
About 3 Tbs, flour,
4 ounces of sour cream
and buttermilk. Just add the buttermilk until you have a pretty stiff batter. Heat oil to 350 degrees, and drop by teaspoon into hot oil, fry until golden brown.
In the south, you can't eat fish without the hushpuppies. 101 and I were talking yesterday, and she remembered her grandmother not measuring anything, and what wonderful food she cooked. My mother used to do the same thing, a pinch of this and a pinch of that. Since I am going to put together a cookbook for DGD for Christmas, of my recipes, will start to measure things, as she wouldn't understand a pinch, smidge etc.
Came back from my appointment and seemed to have lost my momentum with the cleaning. I still need to damp mop the kitchen, 2 baths, and the entry hall. Since DM will be here on Sunday with the oxygen, I will have to straighten the laundry room to accommodate us smokers.
Since DM is taking the fluid medicine every day, she is loosing about a pound a day. She has lost about 8 pounds since visiting the hospital, that is while she was there and since returning home. She has congestive heart failure, and doesn't realize how fast the fluid can accumulate. She is quite overweight, so loosing the weight is a good thing.
I went to her lawyer today, and she is updating her will. I have been her power of attorney for about 5 years, but in her old will, she named my older DS as administrator. She decided that since I knew all about her business, I should be named administrator. I agree, the older sister has seen her once since Christmas. When that news is made public, the proverbial fan and doo doo scene will take place.
DH has gone to pick up DGD, so I am fixing (since Mary's comment about this I can't say/type it without a giggle) supper. It's about ready, ya all come on down. Fried chicken, macaroni & Cheese, and green beans and rolls. Menu at her request!!
I'll be back later to tell you about her reaction when she sees her horse for the first time!!
101, I too have had my share of Close Encounters with cows/bulls in my younger years.
Viann, 7 more hostas, whew. Gonna have a good collection soon.
I got my DG coffee mug today too. Gonna wait till morning to use mine.
Since Darius has been offline for the week, and she couldn't get service on the laptop along the way, she called today.
She was just coming up to Lake City Fla, heading towards home with her sis. She will probably be tired, but will try to post later this evening after she settles in.
She will post updates and progress, and since I can't help myself, there is good news coming.
That's all I'm gonna say since this is her parade.
Molly
:^))))
I'm guessing they found THE place to move to!!! right???? do I win anything???
Just got back from my visit with my MIL. She was telling that her son was such a hard worker. I couldn't take it any longer and said, well yesterday he came to work and slept in the truck for two hrs. She said 'oh, he did not!" - Yes he did I piped up....LOL, can't wait to see what excuse he gives her now... He is such a do nothing....
DH is making tuna buns for dinner- sounds good to me - as long as I don't have to cook!!
The local paper just said that most restaurants were booked for mother's day - DB hasn't made any reservations, so we may not go out to dinner after all. I may have to cook....wahhhh
Went to two local greenhouses today in the pouring rain. Brought home 7 flats of impatients. They were 9.99, but for today on sale for 6.99 - how could I pass that up???? I need twice that amount, but todays haul will make a good dent in what I need.
Went to the grocery store and just picked up stuff to make a dessert and milk and buns. Only had the front seat to put groceries in...rest was full of flowers.
Yey....7 more hostas for Vi - you go girl!!
Defoe- hush puppies sound good- may have to whip up a batch next time we have fish. Wish I could lose weight- I'd love a pound a day!! Wishing DM quick recovery
Haven't done a thing today - real lazy bones. That means I will really have to bust butt tomorrow....
Bonnie, if you can't find self-rising corn meal ( and I suspect that in Canada it might be difficult), can you just add some baking powder to regular corn meal?
Ann
sarv, what are tuna buns??? sounds yummy....lauri
Waahhhh, got my DG mug, and it's got a crack in it and a chip out of the lip. Dmailed my complaint, I hope I don't have to pay to send it back, on top of the $15 it already cost. They should just send me a new one. It wasn't very well packed, just those plastic grocery bags stuffed around it, and some crumpled paper. Darn it.
That's all just came in to complain.
Sheila
VAnn,
I believe there are two ingredients included that make the flour/corn meal self rising. Baking powder AND salt, I think. An cooking equivalency chart would probably outline the ratios. You know, the "instead of" list.
I sure don't know where my day went. Jeremy mowed the back yard dirt and ran out of gas so I went down and got some more. Mostly I just diddled around, here on the puter checked the progress on my seedlings.
We're having left over pork ribs. I'm thinking of making this dessert I got in an email from Kraft. It's called "Layered Nana-Nutter Treats" It's made with choco pudding, peanut butter banana and cocktail peanuts. I've been having a chocolate hankering that I think I am going to indulge in. Tonight! This will definately take care of that menopausal
sweet or salt indecision.
Molly
:^))))
That is very funny about the cow and the bull. My husband always raised cattle and sheep, both registered herfords and suffolks respectively. as a hobby.
After the bull chased me a few times I would not go inside the electirc fence for anything, the ram was even worse, he just waited till you turn your back and at you he went, DH sometimes had either a bruised leg or hand not being careful enough.
I was always glad when bredding time was over and both went back where they were hired from because I was in charge of them when DH had to go to work. Once in a while they got out and started having a feast with my flowers, that was the worst, had to find the place where they got out and get them back in again , plus trying to repair haphazardly the fence till hubby came home to do a better job.
What I thought of was , boy, I never dreamed I would be doing anything like that as I grewwup in urban Vienna :-)
Maria the picture was taken in November of last year. It is green now and from what my friend says it is growing quickly. I thought I had managed to get the picture up on the second post. I am not sure what happened again. I will try it again now. And thanks for the recipe. I love banana bread. I will give your way a shot with my next batch of bananas. I read early when looking up the woodbine vine that it is also called virginia creeper also. It goes by several other names across the country.
Defoe, according to the brains that deal with the weather the increase in the humidity is caused from global warming. It is also why sections of the artic ocean that have been frozen for eons are now melting and causing shifting below sea level across the world. The weather channel had a special show about it all on a couple of months ago. DH is really into all that and I just partially listen as I read my books.
Elaine, Poison Ivy and oak dont stand a chance around here with no water. They have to small of a leaf and stem to store water to make it through the dry spells. Las Vegas only gets a average of 4 inches of water a year and we have been in a drought for going on 11 years. It is so bad that for the past couple of years it has been against the law to use outside water sources from the hours of 11am to 7pm. We are on watering schedules by neighborhoods and face a fine if caught on an off day. Some of these fines are up to 1500.00 per offense.
Well I am meeting a few co workers at a local honkey tonk bar tonight called Gilleys. I better get off here and get ready. I hope all have a wonderful evening.
Casey
lauri - tuna buns are a no brainer- tuna fish, mayo mixed together and put on a bun - put under the broiler and heat - then top with a slab of cheese and return to the broiler. I like my cheese a tad charred.
Molly- that dessert sounds like something I would devour.
M5-I ordered a mug too- hope mine isn't chipped....
My DB just called and said he got us in for dinner on Sunday - but not until 2:45 - that's fine with me....no pots and pans or frazzled nerves, but then again, no leftovers either!
Any big animal freaks me out - cows, horses, bulls, big dogs etc. I like little things...kitties, puppies, fish... The older I get, the more hesitant I am around dogs too. We have two little yippy ones across the street that I hate - they nip at me when I get the mail.
I filled up the thistle feeder, but the birds aren't eating it. I wonder if it has gone bad. They are pigging down the sunflower seeds tho. Is there an easy way to tell if it isn't good? We keep it in a bucket outside, but this seed was from last fall (bought way tooooo much)
Well, the sky is no longer a dull gray, I can see a little blue in the gray. Tomorrow there is a 70 % chance of rain and Sun a 60% chance. Set a new low -high today (that doesn't make sense!!) But that's what the weather gal said!
Time for the crossword...
sarv, yum yum, thanks for the dinner idea, LOL I too like my cheese a tad charred, nothin better. Gotta run dryer is beeping at me yet again. And hey all I have a tan carpet in the living room. I decided to clean it today, huh who woulda thunk......Lauri
Hi! No time to read the posts from Sunday until now yet, but I will.
Meanwhile, I am GLAD to be back at my sister's safely after hundreds and hundreds of miles over the last 6 days. The GOOD NEWS is that we have a ratified contract on a property in Virginia.
Details will follow when I have slept some!
Wonderful news, darius....can't wait to hear the details and pics!!! Yippee!!!!!!!!!!
And thanks for all the well-wishes, etc. Sure feels good to have that off my mind, can't wait to go see family - only have one sis in the states, about 8 hours away, north of Milwaukee, WI. Gotta wait for the actual card tho still.
Elaine - you will absolutely love this story - happened to my friend at work, Lerae.
Co-workers Lerae and Andrea are both blind, they have special electronic Braillex machines to do relay calls. One a month, they get together for pizza. It was Lerae's turn to host and pay, last Fri. night. She ordered delivery and a short time later, someone rang her doorbell. She went to the door, and opened it, said something like, you have pizza for me? SILENCE She could hear someone moving around, guessed that the person was opening the pizza delivery bag, and then a box was shoved into her hand. Meanwhile she had asked a few more times, is this the pizza? how much is it? etc. etc. SILENCE Then she heard a rustle of paper, felt someone put a piece of paper on the box, which she was now holding, and then tapped the box a few times. how much is it? Tap, tap, tap!
A lightbulb went off, she realized the guy was deaf!! Can u imagine? What's the odds of a deaf guy delivering pizza to a blind girl!! She put her fingers on her eyes to try and explain that she was blind. Then she remembered that the person taking the order said it was $14 something, so she handed him a $20. and he handed back change and a $5. She knew it was a $5 because he only handed her one bill. He grunted a bit and she was trying to figure out how to tell him she wanted five $1 so she could give him a tip. Before she had a chance to motion to him, he patted her shoulder and left!!
She took the pizza inside the apt and laughed so hard, Andrea thought there was something wrong with her. What a hoot! She told everyone in the breakroom today .... we laughed so hard all over again! I told her, next time you gals order delivery pizza, tell them to make sure they don't send the deaf guy!!
.........
Not much else for excitement here, got most of the RU plants in the ground, except the tomatoes and glads. Need to till yet. We actually had frost on the windshield this am. GRRRR! A few iris blooms were icky but I don't think any real damage was done. Whew!
Darius, at last! Was wondering when we'd hear from you. Very eager to hear about the VA property Moy nephew , sold his home near Culpeper, and is planning to build on acreage he has near there when he finishes up a job in the UK. It's a beautiful state. Tell us all about it when you recover from your travel exhaustion. Nice to have you back.
Bonnie, I posted that recipe in the recipe forum, check out the threads I've started and you'll find it. It's spicy sweet hot.
I'm using the laptop and it's a pita to type on, and I'm trying to watch a movie at the same time and its not a good combo. See y'all in the morning. Still raining here too, but no frost.

Oh Kooger ... toooo funny!! Sounds like something that *would* happen to me!! LOL Reminds me of the time when I was working and had to call a cab because it started raining. Our local hospital had a portico out front so I told them to just have the cab driver pull up and tap the horn. When the car pulled up I told my dog "forward find the door". Of course, being the good girl she was ... she did exactly as I told her to. I opened the back door and we both got in. The driver just sat there and cleared his throat. Finally, he asked ... "May I help you, please?" I said ... "This isn't a yellow cab?" "Nope" he said. So I apologized and me and my girl just slipped right out the other side. LOL You can tell her that one so she can have a laugh on me! :)
Ann, honestly ... is there anything you can't do? Sewing, playing instruments, doing volunteer work, growing hostas ... wow I just love hearing about all your projects. Did you ever finish the afgan? I honestly can't remember.
Defoe, can't wait to hear more about the horse!
Darius, I'm so sorry we weren't home when you came through last week-end. I'm so so excited that you've found a home to call your own!! Can't wait to hear the details.
sarv, those tuna buns sound yummy. I've done something sorta like that using the chicken. Will have to give that a try.
Meezers, so sorry your cup was broken. That would have upset me, too!! Does anyone know if they are dish washer safe? Also, what is the picture of the flower? I asked the DH to describe it to me, and you *know* men ... he just said it has flowers on it. LOL
Well, I'm going to check my other forums. Will check back before I go to bed.
~Elaine~
Evening friends,
Sarv, did you send all that rain this way? It's been raining since last Tuesday and it looks like we might expect to see just a hint of sun next Thursday --- if we're lucky! Think you'd best send that ark this way too. I'm amazed that my cellar isn't flooded --- yet. I'm with you and Maria when it comes to large animals. I like them just fine when they're looking all picturesque against the horizon, but up close and personal? Forget it!
M5, sorry about the messed up mug. Sure hope they'll replace it. Sorry about the pumpkin pie too --- I know just how you felt. I'm getting really ditzy in my old age it seems. I've been making far too many dumb mistakes lately. Here's a good one ---- I'd been commiserating with Bonnie about pepper seeds not germinating. I have since realized that some of mine did actually germinate. I just didn't know it because I had managed to plant nothing in the starter tray marked "peppers" and planted both pepper and tomato seeds in one of the tomato trays. Don't know how I managed that.
Casey, glad that you don't have poison ivy running rampant over your new property. We have both woodbine (or Virginia creeper, if you'd rather) and poison ivy in the wooded portion of our yard. I've seen a lot of the poison ivy coming up out there and will have to get after it with the killer spray if it ever stops raining.
Darius, congratulations on finding and securing the new property. Can't wait to hear all about it once you've had a chance to catch up on some rest.
Mary, hope you have decent weather for your ride. Sounded to me like it would probably be more than a little chilly.
dmcd, hope the trip wasn't too bad and that your daughter was actually packed and ready when you got there.
V-ann, good for you for losing that weight! I've been battling mine (and mostly losing the fight, not the weight) most of my life. The good news around here is that DH has lost 12 lbs. since he started working at Trader Joe's. The bad news is that I think I found it.
Bonnie, you're making me tired again with all the work you manage to accomplish! I was at my store from 10 AM 'til about 9:30 PM, but most of my work there isn't terribly physical. By the time I put in the hours there, make my hand-crafted items, do the cooking and the gardening---housework pretty much goes by the board. I'm trying to convince DH to do some of it and he sometimes complies, but mostly the clutter and dust just build to mammoth proportions.
I01, glad you're still enjoying the candle. You might want to add some water to the "smelly jelly" to keep it going longer. I'm sure that the actual flowers have them both beat though. I don't think I've ever seen a real gardenia.
Maria, are your daughters taking you out for Mother's Day? I hope you get to do something special. Thanks for the recipe. I'll have to try that version someday.
lauri, are you naturally fearless or just so used to farm animals that you don't give it a second thought? If that had been me, I'd have grabbed the dog and been in (or possibly through) the door as fast as my feet could carry me.
Babs, not sure what I would have done in that situation either! Even a cow looks pretty intimidating to me. Any idea why she just came up and licked you like that? Funny story!
~~~~~~~~to Molly, kooger, and anyone else that I might have missed.
We're closing the store this Sunday so that we can go to a restaurant a few towns over with my mother. Looks like two of my brothers won't make it, but the other two and their partners and the two grandchildren should be there. We have reservations for 2 PM since Mom's not much for going out in the evening these days and it will be easier for my two nieces to get back to wherever they need to be on Monday.
Whoops, just noticed the time and I have to get up early to go to work tomorrow so goodnight and hope you all sleep well.
Sorry, I'm late, but we are ready for you over here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/601634/
