Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Good Morning,

Glad you could stop by and chat for a bit. We came in from over here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/600388/#new

Have a wonderful day!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, it is not quite May 10th, but close enough.

Sarv, I am so glad that you gave permission to spend that money on anything I wanted!! Watch out, DH will hunt you down, and flog you!!

Viann, so how many hostas do you have already? I noticed 3 of mine today that desperately need digging and dividing. I can probably make 6 or more out of each one. Now where to put them. DTS took 6 to the ORVRU, and they were huge, got takers on 3 of them.

Molly, keep us posted on the fire situation. Sure hope that it doesn't creep near you.

Well, gotta get some other things done, they are predicting rain for the next couple of days, then cooler. So I need an inside day, to catch up on some of the paper that is threatening to devour me. Does anybody else have this problem?

Sure enjoyed the lurkers who came out today. Make it a daily happening.

Well, off to the other things, hope everybody has a restful night.

Well, before I turn in ... I just *have* to stop by and share with y'all a little something about my trip. Some of you know about my DH and his wonderful miracle that happened to him 3 years ago now. So for those of you that don't ... he has always been legally blind until he was 47. He was born with a hereditary birth defect that kept the maculars in his eyes from developing properly. After turning 40 though, he started developing cataracts which made his already poor vision even worse so he had to have cataract surgery. The doctor wouldn't do them both at the same time, because he wanted the first one to heal as he was so depended on having vision in at least one eye. That way if things didn't go good ... he'd still have the other to fall back on. Well anyway ... he had one surgery in march and the other in April. His vision went from 20/200 to 20/60 which meant that he is now able to drive for the first time in his life. He got his driver's license when he was 47. His 70 year old Dad taught him how to drive. :) This was our very first trip going to my parents since we started driving. Finally ... at the age of 50 ... we were able to drive home and visit them. :) I can not tell you the joy that it gave me to pull up in their driveway ... and to drive up to our family reunion. The whole experience all week-end was just something like a dream. Just to sit there next to him and listen as he read off street signs and speed limit signs and to be able to stop at restaurants along the way and find the restroom because he can read signs ... and be able to go to fast food places cause you can read the menus on the wall and order. I can not possibly tell you what this feels like. I have to admit I spent a *whole* lot of time crying this week-end. Each of you have become so important to me ... I just wanted to share this with you. I have been so blessed. The doctors have told my DH that it was a miracle ... but they didn't have to tell me. All I have to do is watch him to know it. Thanks y'all for letting me share.
Hugs&blessings ... Elaine

Elaine, this is some story, how moving can it get!! I can't imagine how wonderful it was for you and your whole family. Am very happy for you and DH, you have my total admiratien for being what you are, a great Lady !!!
Thank you for sharing
((((hugs to both of you))))

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Oh IO1 - how absolsutely wonderful for you both!! That truly was a miracle for him - I can imagine the tears did flow- makes me weepy just reading about it. Bet your folks were so excited to have you drive there too! I'm so happy for you both.

Today is the last day of our nice weather. Storm, rain, and cold are coming in tonight. I want to spend the day in the garden getting last minute things done, but I am SO achy. Guess I need to take something to get me thru it all.

Still haven't decided what to do for Mother's Day. For years I've had everyone out and I am tired of doing it all, so I haven't asked anyone at all. I think I will ask my mom/SD out, but not my brother's family or my own kids. If they call and ask when I'm doing, I'll ask them, but I'm not doing the calling. Is that bad?? I asked DH what he was going to do for his mother and he said 'nothing' - guess I'll go get her a card and some flowers and then take a dessert or something to take to her. I've told the 'men' in the family that they need to cook on that day and let us women sit, but so far it hasn't happened... grrr Oh well..

Vi - how many hosta do you have. I have several huge ones that I could divide, but I have no where to put them, so guess they'll stay huge! I have thought about ringing my beds with them (I saw this done and it was stunning), but I don't have enough of one kind to do it. So I'll do flowers again!

Cat left another mess for me to pick up- sure wish it would happen AFTER breakfast....

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Good morning,

Elaine - thanks for the moving story to start off the day. I didn't know that your DH had vision problems as well as you. How nice that he experienced his miracle.

Bonnie, I had 35 varieties of hosta last June and 46 after I did an exchange with Sandy last September. I expect to be close to 70 once I get everything planted this spring. I think it's quite a few, but nowhere in Kelly's league. LOL And I have just a 60' x 100' (plus easement at the front) city lot; so I tend to lean towards smaller hostas. When I get new pics, I'll update the Hosta page on my web site and post the link.

I should have gotten in the garden yesterday. Will be too busy today and tomorrow and rain is supposed to start tomorrow too. Today, I'm home till about 9:30. My massage therapist had a 30 minute cancellation at 10; My neck's been bothering me - too much computer and viola time probably. I'll get him to work on other parts of me next week. Will take time, but I'll drive part way to his office and walk the last 20 minutes for some exercise. Then to the FC to volunteer. Hope it's not busy because I have an afternoon appointment for a bone density scan. And the FC has a Board meeting this evening. So - likely no gardening to speak of.

Hope you all have a good day.

Ann

Hi Sarv - we posted at the same time.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Elaine, I'm so glad your trip was such a happy one. What a wonderful story! I can relate to it very well because I had poor vision from early on. I spent all my grade school years sitting in the front row because, even with my glasses on, I couldn't see the blackboard unless I was right on top of it. I always had trouble getting a good correction, no matter what eye doctor I went to. When I was about 45 my optician spent hours trying to get a good correction and couldn't.

I made an appointment with an opthalmologist, and he was stumped as well, and suggested that I go the the Eye Clinic at Froedert, which is our teaching hospital here. They discovered that I had refractory cataracts, which is a rare condition and nearly impossible to diagnose without their new fancy equipment. Unbelievable! How long had I had them? Who knows? Maybe years. Added to my already myopic and astigmatized vision, they left me with 20/200 in one eye and 20/180 in the other.

Too late to make this a short story....but, I had cataract surgery, have implanted corrective lenses in both eyes, and now I only wear glasses for reading small print like the newspaper or the phone book! 20/30 and 20/40!! Could not believe the difference in my sight....I could read street signs and house numbers. Menus and book titles!! I know exactly how your DH feels, it's just incredible to see things that used to be a blur transformed! It still feels wonderful after all these years! I wish this could be done for everyone!

Yep, DD went from vet tech'ing to dog grooming, as teching is hard physical work, lifting big dogs, etc., but she does my roots only as a sweet gesture to her mother, not a new vocation! If she didn't do such a good job, I'd have to bite the bullet and fork over the $80 or $90 to the salon, and still not get the color I want. (Sorry GG, but less hair care money = more plants and garden stuff)

I'd better get in the shower and get a move on, it's soupy fog out there, having rained all night and I've got a forty mile drive to make. I'll take a slice of Bal's banana bread to keep starvation at bay, as my black nanners are still in the freezer. Have the day you wish for, and I'll see y'all later!

Who needs a Sammi fix?

Dearest Elaine,
How often we forget to be thankfull for our blessings! The things we take for granted are so precious, and until someone points them out to us in a lovely story like yours, we accept them as our just due.

This morning I'm directing a humble "thank You" to the Provider of all my blessings.

Morning All!

I'm sitting here at work, phones don't really start ringing off the hook till about 8am.

Sarv...know what you mean about cats yacking up. Was it Meezers that mentioned that she can hear that sound even while asleep? Something about a flashlight in the middle of the night? My girls act like I should feel privledged to clean up that stuff. I have 3 sets of sisters. 2 siamese who are about 9 yrs old. 2 'humane society' sisters who are about 7 and the 'twins' who are just under a year. The 2 youngsters sure shook up the pecking order when we brought them in about 4 months ago!

Molly....you have been in my thoughts about those fires. My inlaws live part-time in New Smyrna Beach. And rain maybe for you? As my dad used to say, watering keeps it alive, rain makes it grow!

Elaine, your sharing brought tears to my eyes! How wonderful for both yourself and DH!

Viann, anxious to hear about those hostas. I think I might be closing in on the 'mother lode' of hostas. In the area we live in, there is alot of tearing down of the 60's and 70's houses replacing them with mini mansions. DH is in the mortgage business and has a client/builder that he obtains construction financing for. He has just purchased 3 properties in our neighborhood and has given me permission to dig to my hearts desire after the previous owners move out and before demolition starts. I'm looking at very mature hostas, perennials, etc. Nevermind that my yard is already overloaded.....

have a great day to all!

Sorry, missed some posts while I was typing mine.

Meezers, thanks for the Sammi fix! He sure is one handsome boy!

Patti, please post more often! Your words warm my heart.

Carole,

After you finish digging, sounds like you may have some trading in your future??????? Keep your old friends over in coffee in mind when you run out of space or need something to rotate in the beds between hostas.

Sorry, I seem to be living in a vacume out here. I check the weather on my computer, never get around to watching the 6 o'clock news and spend much of my time out in the gardens. I do watch for fires right here on the sand hill. Not everyone in the area is as "diligent" (also known as anal) as I am, and they will lite up their fire pits without regard for wind etc. When I smell their fires going, I make sure my water hose is turned on and ready at a moments notice. The "Rosemary Bushes" are like tinder and will go up in flames faster than a wink. We are trying to get all the rosemary down to reduce the fire risk, but there are still vacant properties surrounding me and those owners aren't coming up from Miami to make sure their land doesn't spread fires to the rest of us. A double wide mobile home burned to the ground in the middle of our county on Monday. They suspect the burn pit behind the home was not fulled extinguished when the wind kicked up. These people had not paid for the fire insurance and the home was not paid for.

The major fires yall are hearing about in the news, I believe are about an hour or so south of here.

Elaine, I had heard your very touching story from Darius earlier this year. But I certainly know the feeling of counting blessing and being grateful for what we have. My heart swells for joy for you and your dearest husband.

Woke up again this morning to rain. I slept so well, I'm not sure when it came in, but we have about 2 inches while we slept. They are predicting more for the next couple days.

You are right, watering keeps them alive, rain helps them grow.

Molly

Just a quick peek before i get out of here. Carol - if you want to take a look at the 35 I had last year, they are at:http://www.magma.ca/~fredrkng/Ann/Ann_hostas.html The new page, when I get it done will be the same URL as I'll overwrite the page.

The place that I've been looking up the hostas is Hosta Choice. They ARE listed in the Watchdog which has a direct look or I'll look up their link later.

Permission to dig from older gardens. What fun!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, got to sleep a little later this morning. It is cloudy and overcast with rain predicted later in the day. I have some annuals that I need to get in the ground before it comes, so this is a quick check in, and I will be back later to comment.

Have a stack of paper work to do, so if the rains come, I have my "inside" work ready.

~~~~~~~ frantically at everyone. Have a good day.
Albany, OR(Zone 8a)
Wanted to check in finally. Bonnie said someone was concerned about me and that is so so sweet.
Am leaving today for AZ (older son's college graduation with honors at ASU) and then off to HAWAII for 10 days!!!
Really need this trip but thanks so much from my lovely parents paying for it.
Life has been h*ll lately. My dad is on his way out. The chemo. wasn't working so they stopped it. So we all called the hospice. He is now on morphine pills to get him comfortable and to sleep at nite. So his quality of life sucks. Such a waste of a life still.
But he promised me to be there when I get back from my trip so I promised him to go then.
Plus the mess with my brother is still going on. It turns out that he was out of money it seems. So maybe that is why he committed suicide? Still no note but maybe we can find something in his house when they search it?
So you all enjoy gardening this month. Hope the weather cooperate so you can be out there getting your hands dirty in the dirt!
Bon Voyage!!!! Until later.......................
Carol
Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)
Good morning. Things are busy here, yesterday I read but didn't post.
Elaine, I hadn't realized that your husband also had (past tense now!) serious vision problems. I do remember that he was having some surgery on his eyes, but hadn't connected the dots as they say. What a wonderful world he is seeing, and I can just emagine how much both of you are enjoying a more normal existance, driving, reading menus, those things the rest of us just take for granted because we have always been able to do them.
Molly, I'm glad you are keeping the hose handy! 2 inches of rain should help the situation, but I know it takes a lot of rain to get the fire danger down.
I was just thinking how funny it is that when one lurker posts we get others right away! vWelcome to you and please come back, have a snack, bring goodies, sit here and visit.
Carole, can you tell about the plants yet? I sure hope the quick rinse did the job to undo the herbacide mistake.
Yesterday my horses got new shoes and I went riding, then just had time to grab some lunch before my neighbor came to take us to the nursery a few miles down the road. We spent a couple of hours there and came home with lots of things to plant. After some yard work, fixing dinner (well it wasn't broken but I did cook it and arrange it on plates), then feeding the animals, I made the mistake of sitting down. A cat promptly anchored me and I couldn't disturb the cat so I sat there watching tv and getting very sleepy. The dishes didn't get done but I did do my exercises before going to bed. You'd think that with all the stuff I do that I wouldn't need exercises, but these are to strengthen the lower back muscles to hold my pelvis in place. Right now it feels like it is somewhat out of place but not as bad as when we started, but I will wait until after my ride this weekend before I go for another adjustment.
Have a great day. ~~~ to everyone I missed.
Citra, FL(Zone 9a)
Good morning!
I'm happy for you and your husband, Elaine. Meezers, same for you. My eyesight is going downhill, and my scripts don't really do what I need, so I can understand a little from a personal perspective. It's scary, actually.
My DH didn't drive when we married five years ago. I taught him (good way to get to divorceland very quickly, in our case). So he got his license when he was 47 as well. I still do nearly all the driving when we are together, however. The tester for his driving test told him he was the best she ever saw, so he feels no need for improvement, so his driving makes me crazy and he refuses to take any pointers from me, though I've driven forever in all kinds of vehicles, conditions, and distances (cross country several times alone, including from AZ to WI in a 26' Ryder with a car trailer in tow and three dogs in the front seat. Truck broke down 4 times on the trip, then finally in the driveway.)
FlamingoCarole, how are your plants?
Yesterday I filled my truck with lumber and 320# of dog food. Now to unload it. No rain in sight for a long time, and that is really good, since four or five months of non-stop rain is more that I was able to handle. I get incredibly depressed here in the winter. My mood and attitude toward life in the last month has taken a complete turn-around, now that I can be outside from the minute I wake up until I go to sleep. I'm happy to be on the planet again.
In a little while I am going to meet a goat that may join my 4-legged family. He is small and apparently thinks he's just one of the dogs in his current home. His favorite green food is blackberries (boy, do I have blackberries for him- at least 2 acres!)
Well, better get some food for meals at work for DH, otherwise I'll have to deliver later, and I plan to get really dirty soon after meeting Mr. Goat, and don't like to be seen in public like that. I'll be back to painting the house after unloading the 40 studs,15 pressure treated 2x4s, and of course, all that dog food.
Good wishes for all for your day!
Laura
Morning everyone
Well, I think I'm suffering from jet lag today! Slept until 9:30. Can you believe it? Boy does my bed feel good!!
Thank each of y'all for the kind things you said about my post last night. I just get so excited some times I can't contain myself ... and of course I'd turn to my friends. :)
I've got to get out today and stake up some of my tomato plants. My DF gave me a jasmine that had come up voluntarily under his . He said he'd pulled up several of them, and I have almost purchased one several times this year.
Well, I started this post around 10 and have had a zillion interruptions so I'm just going to post for now. Will come back and post when I get something accomplished as I'm sure there have been many who have checked in since I started.
Congrats to you son. Quite an accomplishment.
Hi yall,
I just wanted to take a minute to share a pic of a passion flower of mine. I brought this one up from Lauderdale. I bought it last year at Butterfly World with the S. Fla Galloping Gardeners of Daves Garden.
It died back in the cold, but here it is, growing and blooming. This is the second flower it's put out, and both this week. It's called Byron Beauty
Hope, that is neat, love it and how true
Wow, finally got a minute to sit down. I'm beat!
Hope that's so true. :)
Carol, will be thinking about you on your trip. Please do go have yourself a good time. You really do need to have some down time, and I know that's what your Dad would want.I'm saying prayers that he will be free from pain for the time he has left. You have been truley blessed to have this precious time with him.
FC ... sure hope your plants aren't suffering from that mix up too much. I'm rooting for you! (no pun intended. LOL)
Defoe, sure hope all is okay with you and your Mom today. I missed hearing from you. Hope it was just "life" and not a bad sign.
Hi Maria and Samson. Am waving at both of you. :) Have you put any of your plants out in your EB's yet? I'm so curious as to how you like them.
Molly, you are so right about the rain. I often times collect some in a bucket to use for several days. The plants prefer *even* left over rain as compared to water. Can't believe you got some rain this morning. It passed me right over. :-(
ViAnn, I hadn't realized you were a hosta freak also. :) Wow, you and Kelly sure love em, don't you. Oh yeah ... we can't forget about Susan, can we? Speaking of Susan ... sure hope she's having a good time.
4Paws, so how is the goat? Did you adopt him? You'll have to tell us more. I've never known anyone who adopted a goat. My aunt and Uncle use to have goats, though. :)
Meezers, so glad your sight problem was able to be corrected. I know you *do* understand what a beautiful miracle my DH has been given as you have wittnessed it first hand. :)
Well, I have a pot of white chicken chili on for supper along with some guacamole if anyone wants some. It's a big pot, so there's plenty. The DH just called and is on his way home. I'll check back after while. Hi to all those I haven't spoken to. The group is waaay to big so just know I enjoy each and everyone of your post.
waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)
What lovely thoughts here today! This is such a wonderful group of friends, any day that I can't check in, I feel deprived. I may never go on vacation....but DR should have a restful relaxing trip and come back refreshed and ready to face the challenges awaiting her.
DD did my roots and I am now a brunette with blond streaks again, for the next several weeks. Traffic was ghastly, so I got off the Xway at one point and passed the bottleneck and then got back on. New tires feel great. It's warm here, but has been cloudy all day. Dug out a spot for a bush that didn't do well in it's location over winter, so it's going in a more sheltered area down by the new garage. DH said he didn't think it was a good place for it, so I decided to move it myself. He hasn't yet noticed that the stella d'oros have replace the ditch lilies, so he might not notice this either. LOL
Good sleeping, Elaine. I find that several days of company or visiting is tiring, and I always need a couple of days to recuperate. Since I am alone all day unless I go out somewhere, I get used to my peace and quiet.
Molly, Byron is gorgeous! I think myhardy hibiscus has survived the arctic blasts, I see new shoots coming up even though the tops are toast. All the hosta has emerged and some have even opened up. Roses are leafing out, and tulip petals are blowing in the wind. I hope the weekend weather is good, there's much to do. At least on Saturday, Sunday the kids are coming over, DD and DIL have birthdays, and it's Mother's Day. They are bringing food! I'll make up a couple racks of ribs on Saturday, and probably bake a cake Sunday morning or late Saturday night. DD bringing potato salad, and DIL bringing veggies for the grill....sounds like meal without too much effort.
Carol, the goat sounds like a great addition for pruning blackberries! They are such funny little critters. My DB had some when his girls were tiny, and they often got butted when they played outside.
Got home and found Sammi sleeping next to a lump under the quilt, which was Souky. He wouldn't dare cuddle up that close to her if she could see him!
~~~~ to all, and making tracks for the great outdoors where I intend to wreak havoc on those nasty little yellow dandelions. If only our neighbor down the hill would do it to his. The field is solid yellow. And the horses won't eat them.

Still didn't pick up the diapers. DANG!!

Sheila

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

It's really hard to get outside in the heat to work, so just piddled inside until 5. Then I put some vines in the ground that I started from seed, and some other potted plants that needed planting. Used that rainwater in the buckets to settle them in.

Got some Dahlias from Daisyruffles today and planted them up. She was here and gone too fast for me to catch her.

Well, need to finish some paperwork now. I'll catch up with yall later.

Hi everyone, I'm taking a quick break from the weeding and planting. Now the sprinkler is going and I can move to another spot. So much to do and I'm behind already. How'd that happen? Wasn't it just winter the other day?

Carol (DR) it's good to hear from you again. Your family has been in my thoughts and prayers.

Meezer, LOL about Sammi sleeping beside the Souky lump. He probably went to sleep grinning. Sure I believe cats laugh.

This morning I helped my neighbor with some cattle work, we got them into the corral and ran them through the chute to have the vet check about a dozen cows that haven't calved yet. 10 pregnant, due anywhere from real soon to 3 months from now, and 2 not pregnant. Those 2 will be sold, they may have aborted their calves last winter and there must be some reason they still aren't pregnant because the bull has been with the herd the whole time since late last summer. We know of two others who lost theirs but these 2 may have lost them out away from the herd where they weren't noticed. There are cattle diseases that cause abortions, and sometimes it runs through a herd causing a lot of losses, (and a lot of money lost). After we were finished with that I helped move the yearling heifers and steers so Breezy got a cow job today, he likes that, and then I took a ride on him. I may end up riding him this weekend since Patch may have gotten kicked, (I see a bloody spot on his leg but it doesn't seem to be swollen or sore). He was stiff yesterday before I rode him but smoothed out of it ok, never did seem to be lame when I was on him, but was stiff again today. It could also be a reaction from the vaccinations he got Monday. I'll ride him again tomorrow and decide if he goes or stays home this time.

Back to weeding and planting, oh yes, have to think about what's for dinner, too. ~~~ byebye.

I was so excited when I opened the mail yesterday afternoon, I posted on my original thread concerning my legal hassles and forgot to tell everyone here so check out this thread, scroll way down, close to the bottom, May 9, 2006. Talk about stomach in my throat when I saw that envelope, hardly dared open it! http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/472592/

What a remarkable story, Kooger. Congratulations on a happy ending! :)

Y'all will *never* guess what I'm hearing. Rain ... lots and lots of *rain*!! Course we had some while I was gone, but I bet my plants are lovin it. :)

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Congratulations Kooger. I should have passed them on sooner - I still had the other thread marked to be watched; so I got the message. I guess I was so distracted that I didn't notice that you hadn't told people here the good news.

Elaine, I'm wondering how you missed that I'm a hostaholic. LOL That's what got me onto DG in the first place.

Mary, your working with livestock never ends.But helping to herd cows sounds better than getting up all night to help with lambing.

All I did in the garden was to pull a few weeds and decide that I've definitely lost two roses. But I've never gotten them properly marked; so I don't know which ones. Funny, it was quite a mild winter and they were protected.

Just got in from the Food Cupboard Board meeting. I ended up taking the minutes; so I'd better go decipher my notes before I lose them.

Good night.

Defoe, thanks so much for the daylilly seed collecting lesson a couple days ago, read it and wanted to reply with thanks but had to help DS with a project and never made it back. Your explicit descriptions were perfect.

Elaine, dont know if I have told you what a blessing I think you are, so consider yourself told now. Its wonderful to hear someone being thankful for gifts that most take for granted.

Sorry to hear about those of you expecting the bad weather for the next few days. Although ours doesn't involve clouds, rain or wind I too am not looking forward to the upcoming weather. We are expected to hit the 100 degree mark by Sunday. We usually dont hit the triple digits until the first week in June. Its going to be a hot one........

Carol, I hope that you enjoy your well earned trip. You most be very proud of your son. That is awesome.

Molly, I have a passion flower also. It hasn't ever died back in the winter for me. I dont get any blooms during the winter but it stays green. I get blooms from April till September. I was told by mother that you can tell if love is in your heart if a passion flower can bloom under your care.

Kooger, congratulations so happy to get to keep you.

Well I cant remember anymore, I am having a mild CRS day but a CRS day none the less. Best of everything for everyone.

Well, I ended up doing inside things today. Tell you about it after I properly address comments from today.

101, hugs, I knew that story, and it is always awesome to hear again. Glad you slept well.

Sarv. I do Mother's day at my house for all of my siblings and mother. DS, the older one's birthday is May 9, and she considers it a birthday celebration too. I don't have the heart to tell her it isn't!!

Viann. 70, wow, so how big is you garden/yard?

M5, I didn't know you had eye problems. I too feel deprived if I am away from Coffee and.... for 1 day, then vacation,is torture. Glad you made the trip to get the roots done. I will be doing that in about 2 weeks. Your Sunday lunch sounds good/easy. Enjoyed the Sammi pic, and LOL about Sammi sleeping next to the Souki lump.

Pattischell, Hi~~~ post every day, so we know that you still mostly lurk. How are the doxies?

FC, Can I come help you dig for a share of the loot? That is a good deal. How are your plants after the toxic stuff?

Molly, hope the fires stay south, but good that you are prepared. 2 inches of rain, and more on the way, good for you!! The Passion Flower pic is gorgeous.

DR, congrats to son. You must be very proud.

Mary, I LOL about "fixing dinner", sometimes mine does need to be fixed, although it has been awhile, drat, probably jinxed myself. I used to help with the cattle, when I was a teenager. Having the vet at the farm was an all day job. Also laughed about cat anchoring you to the chair. I have that happen too, but it is always Mr. B. Glad you had a good ride, and I hope Patchy is okay.

4paws, what kind of eye condition do you have? A disease, or just plain old poor vision? I am surprised that you survived teaching DH to drive. I know the feeling, I always like my driving better than DH's Did you adopt the goat? Maybe I need to get one to take care of some unwanted bushes on the back part of the farm. What is all the lumber for? And painting the house, outside or inside?

Maria, are you still planting? That pot idea is a good one, unless Samson decides to treat them like bowling pins!! DH has a beagle, when he is allowed out of the kennel, carries everything that he can get his teeth on.

Hope, thanks for that "What a Woman Should Have" enjoyed it, and it is so true.

Kooger, I had read your news on the other thread, but Yeah again. Took long enough. Think maybe they thought you would just give up?

Carat, Glad to be of help. Please be aware that seeds from a day lily, may not come true. So if you are just wanting flowers, that will be all right, if you are a "named daylily" person, probably not for you. I can't believe that you are already anticipating 100 degree temps. I know that is hot, but your humidity is usually so low. The times I have been to Vegas, you are very aware it is hot, but usually a breeze, and low humidity, makes our weather look real fierce. When we have 90 degrees, and humidity at 80% humidity, it is unbearable. AC time for sure. Last year was so hot, I went out early in the morning, then came in, and out again after the sun went down. Maybe with the pool this year, I can garden all day, with frequent trips to the pool.

Well, this morning, DH had a Chiropractor's appointment, so he left me in bed, and I slept until 8:30. Almost unheard of, as the phone is usually the alarm clock. Always DH fishing buddies, planning their fishing activity for the day. As it was cloudy, overcast, and rain predicted, I had my coffee, and went out to plant some annuals that had been sitting in the garage for a week. Got interrupted by a phone call, and when I returned, it was already sprinkling, but bit the bullet, and finished. Got them all in. So came in to attack the mound of paper that awaited me. Some days I think that the paper will just cover me, and I will never be heard from again. Worked on that, then had to go to DM, to meet with the Home Health Nurse, who was doing an assessment, to see what type of care DM needs. She will have a nurse come 3 times a week, for 5 weeks, as well as a PT, and OT. They are also going to help her with her showers, as she is pretty unsteady. We have put in hand rails, shower chair, bedside commode, and a lift chair, so she has everything that could possibly help her. Came home, resumed the paper battle, until time to prepare supper. (after Mary's comment, can't say fixed again, unless it really is broken"!! LOL. DS, and GF came to eat, and I sent DM her plate by them, they also took a plate to DMIL. So I have had a busy day. Tomorrow is grocery/errand day, plus a dentist appointment early, to have the wires on the braces tightened. That ususally doesn't take long, but will have a sore mouth again for a few days. We have had tornado warnings from about 5:00, until just a few minutes ago. We had nothing, not even rain, but some areas east of here, and north, did get hammered. DH went fishing after supper, and came in at 9:00 with 150 fish to clean! He is still outside 2 hours later. So give me a couple of days, and then come on down for a fish fry!! Honest to goodness, if he suggests getting another freezer for his fish, I will need the 2x6, the 2x4 isn't nearly enough!! We have 1 upright freezer, and 2 chest type freezers, plus the one on the refrigerator, and all of them are full! Went with DH last night to view the pricy new horse. She is pretty, a registered Tennessee Walking Horse, who is bred to a World Champion in 2004. So he can probably sell the foal for the cost of the mare, but sheesh, the cost. She is a registered as a chestnut roan, and may have been at birth, but is now a dappled grey. She has the prettiest eyes, just liquid gold. So as an animal lover, I have fallen in love with her, not her price. DGD has not seen her, we have talked with her and told her about the new horse. She will be here Friday, so I am sure that this weekend will be spent on horseback. Her registered name is 7/11 In Action, so we are trying to come up with an everyday name that will suit her. I am asking for suggestions, please.

Well, going to check out some other forums before bedtime. I will check back here, but for all the early to bedders, Good night. Hope it is restful.

Hi,

Just checking in quickly as I'm starting to fade. Gave DH his supper just a little while ago as he had to work until 10 PM tonight. I've been busy most of the time since I got home from work trying to get some plants potted up. Besides the asters that I'd pulled up accidentally, I just got my shipment from Spring Hill and had strawberry plants, a lemongrass plant, white dragonflowers, and gladiolus bulbs to deal with. The bulbs and flower plants will have to wait until Monday when I can hopefully get them into the ground, but I've put most of the strawberries in a strawberry pot, and potted up the lemongrass and all but two of the asters (ran out of pots and didn't want to go out in the rain and mud in my slippers to get more.)

There's way too much to respond to at the moment so I'll only mention a few. Kooger, congrats, glad things finally worked out. Carol (DR) please try to relax on your trip --- you need it. Carole, that was awful about your plants! I hope you were able to save them, but if not, at least it looks as though you have a good source for some replacements. 101, that's an amazing story --- so glad you both got to make the trip. (You have D-mail, by the way.) M5, thanks for the Sammi fix! I think the one before that with the answering machine was the best yet, though! Bonnie, hope your Mom is doing better and that you've had a chance to recover from the last couple of days. Welcome to all the new people and warm regards to all the "regulars". I'd like to "talk" more with each and every one of you, but I've really got to go get horizontal before I end up sleeping on the keyboard. Night all!
