Mornin,
Looks like we are going to get a bit of rain today. Guess I will get out and transplant and make cuttings and get ready for the RU in Springfield . Hope everybody will have a great day. It's my day off so I know I will =)

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm in the office now. Started raining here about an hour ago. I won't complain as it has been dry and I never mind it raining during the week. I have a problem with rain on the weekends!

Wellington, OH

I've been watering for weeks now. This is the driest spring that I can remember - we usually float through spring. They keep predicting rain, and somehow it just keeps going all around us. So, I watered again this morning, even tho' my hubby told me that we're supposed to have showers for the next 7 days. Rain - bring it on!

Mint Hill, NC(Zone 7a)

It has been raining here for awhile went to Home Depot and got somethings for a dog agility project, picked up a milk Stanchion from a freecycle member, put it in the barn. Was going to transplant some Agastche Golden Jubilee but I am out of the mood now.
Kayellen i sure hope you get some rain, it is supposed to rain all week through the weekend here.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Chicory, Have you grown Agastach before? I have the regular 'Anise Hyssop'.
The plant is fragrant. The blooms attract all kinds of winged insects and the seed are magnets for Gold Finches.
Unfortunately, any seed that evades the birds will sprout, they are as bad as Cleome.

It's been raining for 6 hours here, 3/4 inch so far.
Sidekick Sarah and I are bored, stuck inside.
Here she is, waiting for a little treat. (The only way I can snap a pic of her eyes, camera shy.)

Andy, my gals are bored too, but Winnie(the mostly white one) will sit out in all day in the rain or snow if I let her, while Nell prefers to be dry except for a nice swim on a hot day. No chance of that today. But at least there won't be more holes dug in the garden today! I need a couple of hours without rain tomorrow to plant some new perennials that I got last Sat. at Bay State in Whately Ma and a few more at Walker's Farm in Dummerston Vt on Sunday. Both extremely nice stops for plants. Patti

A very sleepy Dena just asked me to say "hello" to everyone here. She is about to go to sleep for the "night" and looks forward to catching us on the weekend.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I was busy over the weekend with my load of humus! I can highly recommend Snow's Farm in Easton - the humus is beautiful and nary a rock to be found. Speaking of rocks (as I always am), friends came by Sunday and built a rock retaining wall for me! All of a sudden all the pile of rocks in the yard became valuable material! All the sorting into piles was useful as we needed different shapes of rocks for different parts of the wall. It is so pretty that a six year old boy on his bicycle rode by and complemented me on the "pretty rocks". I will take a picture and post it over the weekend. In the mean time - here I am in my usual Saturday "best" with my humus.

Look at that black gold!!!

Dena - I got your package, Thanks!!!! They are all planted and happy in their new digs.

Now I'm off to do some posting. I'll check in later if I get a chance otherwise, I'll check in tomorrow morning with coffee!

I also received my hosta from Dena and planted them today. Very nice divisions and very well packed.
Thank you!

Thought this pot might be decaf, Hey I finished up all my spring projects up outside and am just waiting for some dry weather to plant.
Birds are quiet around my house - darn crows have been using the birdbath for their kitchen sink - nasty.

Those a beauties Al - mine are still too small for flowering. I wintersowed a few too, so I am looking forward to seeing them as well.

It's raining here, which is why I am on the PC instead of in the garden. I like to walk around and check things out in the morning with my coffee, pull a few weeds and just let my muse whisper in my ear...

Here's are shots from the other day. The center shot is one of my wintersown Phacelia.

Al, That's pretty! What is the name of that columbine?

Oh. And congratulations on finishing up your spring projects! Mine won't be over for at least 5 weeks. That's when they become summer projects.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Anita, Once again a lovely collage!

I stopped my muse from whispering in my ear because she had really bad breath.

Mint Hill, NC(Zone 7a)

Nice Pics Anita!
To answer someone Yes I have grown Agastache before many times. I grew all mine from seed this yr.
Nice Borders Patti. TJ (my BC) is mad because we are in the house on the computer and not practicing agility or playing ball. Too tired, we unloaded a 1/2 semi of plants yesterday and have one coming today. Nice to see all the new stuff and knowing I get them at cost helps a lot when unloading in the rain LOL.
Had to get more coffee this will be a long day.
I hope everyone has batten down the hatches in the west side of CT looks like you all will get some more heavy rains, I hope no body gets flooded!
Need to go to the greenhouse and water before I have to go to work. I hope everyone has a nice day.

Actually I cheated - HA HA, my wife bought that columbine blooming already. She proclaimed that she wanted to start collecting them - I said 'great - I have 10 so far - you have 1' The tag says red and white double, sounds genieric - I thought all the doubles were in the barlow name.
Dave- it is great to have my bed rearrangements done, it was kind of like work - which most gardening isn't to me. Which reminds me of my day - on this coldest rainy day we had this spring I put together the watering truck at work.

This one is definitely blooming, I moved my northern light azaleas and after 3 years of growth I could have put the rootballs back in the gallon pots they came out of - kinda scary.

No I haven't gone away yet. I looked down in one of the beds I worked up recently and found this today. A 1903 dime, older than my house.

Are you going to plant it? I'd worry about the germination rate after 103 years.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

LOL!!!

How was everyone's weekend? I got alot of work done on my new bed in the back. I bought a bunch of astilbe and a few other things. I also bought a few coleus and I plan on doing some cuttings and sticking them in a few other places once theyv'e rooted.

I can't believe May is almost 1/2 way gone! I have to pick up my shoes from the dyer and try them on with the dress for my sister's wedding to make sure the hem is ok. I have my niece all next weekend as part of her birthday present. A whole weekend at my house without her sister and we can do just about what ever she wants. I do the same for the other niece. Boy am I going to miss this when they grow up. At what age do they stop wanting to be with the family and only want to hang with the friends?? If my sister has any children it won't be the same as she will be living in South Carolina and I can't shoot over there on a whim.

Well - gotta run. Check in on you later! Enjoy! I'll leave you with a shot of my winter sown phacelia mixed in with my reseeded forget-me-nots.

Anita, The weekend here was RAIN, RAIN, RAIN, almost 5 inches with almost a foot 50 miles north of here.
Flood warnings, State of Emergency, National Guard called up and that incessant chirp from the Weather Bug on my screen.

Rain and mothers kept me busy all weekend but I did sneak in 5 roses.

Fairmont, WV(Zone 6a)

How is everyone doing up there in the ongoing monsoon? Seen any animals walk by two by two yet? I turned on the weather channel this morning and coastal NE seems to be under water--Peabody MA has had a FOOT of rain in the past few days...yikes. Hope everyone is safe and dry!

The sump pump is working overtime and I had to put on my floaties and dig out my snorkle! This rain is something else! Went to my moms house for Mother's Day and the two of us got soaked cooking burgers on the grill, but it was fun anyway! I hope this post finds you all well (and dry). I hope to find to or three minutes to jump on here before I have to go to work tonight.

Pam, you had me rollin with the animals walking by two by two comment, just this morning we had a break in the rain and I told my husband that we should use the chance to built our arch before the rain started up again.

Dave your comment to Al was too funny!
Cool coin Al!
Hi Anita your Forget me nots look good, mine are so tiny I've just about given up hope of seeing them this year.
Hi Andy! How you doin?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Goodnight Dena! Hope we catch you tonight.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

checkin' from work -

I had no idea that you Northern NE'ers were getting so much rain! We had that same thing last fall. It rained heavy for a straight week, week and a half. I guess you'll be clear on the drought monitor... http://www.noaa.gov/ offers some great info on drought, weather etc..

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

I made it to work OK this AM. Thought I'd avoid the 'usual' flood areas (I'm on the wrong side of town) and got stuck with everyone else, including School busses.
Only one detour on the way home. No serious damage here.
Last October was a MAJOR Disaster. The flood waters were within a 100 yards of home. The city shut down for 2 days. That was from 9 inches within 2 days after a week of rain.
This time was 'only' 5 inches in 2 days.

Sarah was getting Cabin Fever. The rain let up long enough for the pavement to dry so I grabbed the leash. It started to sprinkle at the point of no return. I kept asking "another 10 minutes" 5 minutes, 3 minutes. It worked. LOL. It's raining again now.

I'm really behind on planting now. The lawn is a mess.
Very little in the garden has grown for a week, it's been so cold and wet.
This Columbine still has not opened, 6 days after I snapped this pic.

Andy,
The same thing is going on in my yard. The only thing that seems to still be growing in this weather is the grass and of course, the weeds. My flowers haven't grown, the ones that had buds still have buds a week later and I'm thinking that my Globe Thistle seedlings are the same exact hight they were Tuesday when I checked on them this morning. All that being said everything is very very green! That would include the moss that grew over night on the steps leading down to the back yard, that I nearly killed myself on because it has never grown there before and I wasn't ready for the slippery footing as I went (in my usual manner) down the stairs hitting only every other step.
(feel free to insert mental picture of me flailing to keep from landing head first into the mature Maple that would have been the bumper at the end of that slip and slide for me, if it hadn't been for the last ditch effort to hurl myself backwards, I landed on my butt and only hurt my pride!)

I'm so ready for some sunshine!
Dena

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Dear Ms Wetbutt, Another thing growing is the Hosta. I don't recall it ever looking so good this early.
Andy P

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

hmmm..do I need to send you a care package of pillows and egg crates?

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

just think...when the sun comes out you won't know which flower to enjoy first!!!

West Warwick, RI(Zone 6b)

LOL! Ms Wetbutt! ROTFL! To true Andy, them Hostas sure do love all this rain!

Anita thanks for the offer. My butt is fine, tho I do believe if my neighbor had been outside and caught me doing my backside bounce I would have been doomed to never living it down! Thankfully he has some age on him and stays in his warm dry house when the weather is like this. I managed to keep some dignity there. I'm also very thankful my daughter didn't see it happen, that to could have been bad as she seems to delight in my misadventures, as she did the day she found me dangling from the apple tree, but that is a story for another day.

I can't believe its going to be like this for yet another week. We'll need a boat to get around soon if this rain wont let up.
A deluge of dampness defines Dena's days

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Dave - I think I'd like to plant a new house instead. I did make a similar joke this winter at a plant store, I was checking out with some dahlia tubers and a bag of taffy and I said to the checkout lady "man I can't wait for those taffy plants to come up!"

Thumbnail by bigcityal
Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Morning all - I see the weather pattern hasn't changed yet. You folks in northern NE were on the Weather Channel last night. I can't believe you are getting around in boats! They were commenting that this hasn't been like this [for the area there were reporting from] since 1939! I must admit that my grass seed and new plantings are happy with the precip.

Fairmont, WV(Zone 6a)

My parents are in the hardest hit area and aren't doing so well...argh...it is frustrating to be so far away...

pam

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Al, What do you use for house seeds? Those Monopoly pieces?....Then you'll finally have that greenhouse.

Pam, So sorry to hear about your parents. Are they in Mass.?

Andy, I had no idea Brockton got so wet. (I think I've only heard about Brockton's shoe factories and the BrocKton Bomber. Are these accurate?)
Anita, I couldn't figurewhy you were referring to CT and MA as northern NE (New England) until it dawned on me you meant northern NE (North East). From what I saw on the weather, LI took on a bunch of rain yesterday.
Its pouring again here as I type. I've got a cold and my sinuses need some dry weather!

Fairmont, WV(Zone 6a)

Yeah, my parents live on Cape Ann...they called at 7 this morning because their basement is so badly flooded the sump couldn't keep up and they need to hire a profesisonal to pump out the cellar...and thier roof is leaking, to add insult to injury...sorry, just venting, been worrying about them lately.

Hope everyone here has been able to stay warm and dry.
pam

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

It is hard when they get older.

Wellington, OH

Why, oh why, did I wish for rain? We've had it for 5 days now. I am thankful that we're not using boats, but our back yard has standing water and is very "mushy" for walking. We did need it, just not so much!!

My plants aren't growing either. Every day I check the clematis that I planted, at least twice. First, the rabbits nibbled, now the cool days and nights seems to have stopped all but the smallest of growth. They'll never make it at this rate.

I bought some False Indigo because I loved the look of it, even if I did spend an hour looking for a place that gets some sun. I have to stop doing that and just stick with shade plants. I also bought some blackberry lilies. Someone had suggested toad lilies for shade and the nursery didn't have any, so I bought these. Mistake, I know, they want sun.

What's wrong with a person who can't stay away from the nursery and greenhouse even when they can't plant because of standing water?
