Good Morning, so glad you could stop by and chat a while. Have a cup of coffee and maybe there are some leftovers of banana bread or coffee cake.
We were here yesterday: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/599808/#new
Coffee and......May 9, Tuesday
I just came thru to check. Being on a busy schedule I was going to see what was on here. seems like it is NOTHING. Old girls must be sleeping in I suppose. So again I am FIRST.
Old girls???
ouch. sounds like cows.
I was getting the coffee going!!
Old girls? Better start running now, Oz, before anyone else gets up!
Good Morning Every one!
A very funny way to start the day reading Oz and demc, LOL LO

Sheila, we are not going to run, we are going to confront him!
Well, I had to lay in a bit. I was trying to figure out what that strange sound on the roof was. It's raining!!!!!!!!
It's been raining for a few hours and they are predicting rain for the rest of the day, night and next 2 days. This is such a welcome thing. I can't wait for the lightet a little brighter out there so I can see how the garden is liking it!
So in view of this, I think we'll work on some indoor projects, like finishing the paint job around Jeremy's new vanity and paint the kitchen cabinets.
The front door frame doesn't leak anymore. I caulked every last bit of it when I painted the house, but it hasn't rained til now so didn't know if I got the spot.
What a wonderful day!!!!!!
Molly
:^))))
Well Maria I figured, you know the older ones would need something to invigorate the flow of blood in their veins. Helps them rise and shine. Now I am going to go off and lay some more flooring for a friend while they invigorate and churn.
Morning, I'm invigorating and churning, but it is from all my work outside yesterday - I swear every muscle/bone in my body is screaming at me. It is going to be nice again today, so after HP, I need to get back in the garden and PLANT!! Folks are bringout out dinner, and they always show up about 2pm for dinner!!
I lugged out 5 big brugs and got them in the ground, 25 more to go. Oh my aching back.. I ususally put a disposable diaper, alfalpha pellets and compost into each hole, but this year they are just getting put in the ground. They will be in our garden and the soil is better there. I just ran out of steam - I may be sorry for not adding the extras tho.
I waited around last night for someone to show up, but all of your were elsewhere, so I went to la=la land. Then this morning I see that a ton of you posted!! Now I CRS, so I am going out to the garden...
Maria, I meant OZ should start running. We would certainly not run away, and you would think, as a married man, he would know better than to start out the morning with a remark like that! Tell Samson to help us go after him! Samson can give him a good "licking".
You are right, Shaila, just was not quite awake yet, of course we woll not rune and if we do we'll chace him taking Samson along, he would just love to join and jump all over Oz with joy, I am afraid we end up rescueing Oz from all his attention
Not a very nice day, feels cold anfd damp, brrrr
Sarv, you have lots of brugs, where do keep that many through the winter?
Well I am shuffeling in and moo-moo, hehehehe :-). I am still picking out rose thorns in places that rose thorns should'nt be, and the rose has yet to come down. It will be down today or else!!!! LOL it would help if the wind will quit blowing.
sarv, how protected from the winds do the brugs need to be?? I only have 7 but they really need to get into the ground today amnd I am running out of sunny spots. Well off to sharpen the big boy loppers and attack the rose...If ya don't hear from me ya know where I am....Cowboy cookies on the counter still warm, enjoy..bbl....Lauri
Lauri,
Brugs ought to do well for you in the ground all year in zone 9a. Many of them even do well in my 8b.
I think I see a little blue out there in the sky. Yesterday my Passiflora put out its first bloom of the year and I forgot to get a photo before my springs messed it all up. I'm hoping another will open today so I can do that.
Molly
:^)))
Maria, I have about 30 brugs. DH and I dig them up in the fall and put them in buckets and store them in on the kids bedrooms (which I've turned into a junk/garden room) Then in the spring, I lug them back out and plant them.
Lauri - I've put mine in sheldered-shady areas and right out in the open- the ones in the open usually flower more lushly, but they do need more water too. This year DH rototilled the garden a tad bigger and I am putting them all in a line at the gardens edge. I'll post a pic when I get them all in. I've had them for years and I think they are labor intensive - this year it is sink or swim!!
My eyes are just driving me crazy - itching and dry. I've tried the drops the doc gave me, but they aren't making any difference. I feel like sticking them under the faucet...so annoying.
I need 2 cowboy cookies....
Morning all. Had to cancel the C. scope. Rats, eh? LOL Actually doc said I had to, still have some minor uncomfort in the area that likes to flare up. He said it's too easy to perforate the walls when it's inflamed, so two weeks of antibiotics and we try again. Actually, I was psyched up and ready to get it done and over with so it's a bummer to have to wait. I considered not calling yesterday and just going to do it, but decided my health wasn't worth the risk. See, once in awhile I have a lucid thought. :)
Gotta get planting all my goodies from the RU. I thought I only had a small amount till I started counting. 20 tomatoes? I'll be sharing some of them. There were some forgotten ones so I inherited them in order to find them a good home. I picked up two flats of annuals while I got my meds last night so I could get pots planted too. Moby brought a whole bunch of purple/white daturas that she started from seed and I'm gonna put one out front by the flagpole. They're so pretty! First in the ground will be the fern peony, foxtail lily, trillium, Himalayan mayapple, Jap. morning glory, hardy hibiscus and teddy bear sunflowers. The rest will have to wait. Don't have any tilling done in the garden yet for those mators.
Question - how may days after using RoundUp can one plant? I used it on some quack grass in the garden.
I'll probably be back later... have a good day all!
Yippee ... I'm *home* ... sitting at *my* computer ... with my *cup* and talking to y'all!!! Oh wow ... I sure did miss everyone!!! It's amazing how much a part of my life each and every single one of you have become.
We got my niece graduated this week-end from nursing school plus a bonus of getting engaged. :) Her pinning ceremony was Friday night and graduation was Saturday. My family reunion was Sunday, and we were coming back afterward but the weather was too horrid. Anyway, got up and left around 11:00 after the fog and rain had burned off. It was a wonderful trip, but so so good to be back home.
I did go back and read what I missed out on, but with all the senior moments ... I can't remember to comment, so I'll just wave and say hello to everyone and start fresh.
Defoe, I do hope your DM gets home today. So sorry to hear that she had to be hospitalized. To everyone else ~~~ and have a *wonderful* day!!!
...Elaine
Shame on you Oz!! Now you *know* we can't let you get by with a remark like that! LOL
Eweed are you really 104? and do all you do? LOL
Hey Greta --- you noticed that too! Actually if he was "a young lad"in 1902 he's even older than that -- a veritable miracle man.
May I join y'all? I have been 'lurking' around the parking lot for over a year now, so I feel like I know each and everyone of you! Don't know why I have never 'jumped in' but it seems like as good a time as any.
I'm a transplanted yankee down here in Atlanta. Officially grew up in the Chicago area, moved to Prescott AZ in the late 70's and in 1997 to Atlanta. Married in 1970, divorced in 1985. Remarried 2 years ago to my college sweetheart. We broke up in '68, literally ran into each other on a sidewalk in SanFrancisco (I was visiting my son & family) in '95! Had not seen each other for all those years. RN by profession, but retired from nursing in '95 due to health reasons.
Need the 2x4 so I can hit myself over the head....went out last evening to spray Neem Oil on my brugs and other stuff that are being devoured by bugs. I use one of those gallon and a half pump type sprayers. Finished up and was putting the pump sprayer back in it's place in the garage and noticed that my 'other' pump sprayer that I use for weedkiller that is kept in another location is sitting there with INSECT written on it. Now that I think about it please pass on the big 2x4 for DH also known as "Mr I don't do gardening". He needs a whack also. Apparently he was out back (large wooded area) this weekend spraying poisen ivy with total vegetation killer and did not put stuff back where it belonged. And also left a whole gallon of killer in the sprayer. So.....sprayed all my stuff with the killer. Major PO'd. So, darkness found me with the hose trying to drench everything that I had sprayed. Then threw on the irrigation system to do it's work also. DH comes home from work about 9:30 and wants to know why the sprinker system was on since we had rain on Sunday. Let your imagination wander on what I said back!
So time will tell on what's gonna die.....
carole in atlanta
Welcome, Carol Have some Banana bread I made yesterday it might cheer you up, what a horrid mistake don't use the 2x4 on you use it on DH, he is the culprit
Hey, all, I've been a lurker, too, but not for a year, since I only joined DG three months ago (boy, sure seems longer!).
Flamingo - I'm going to be thinking about you and your plants all day. What a story about your love life!
I should be out doing something, but then I know I'll get dirty and I finally have to go to town today. I haven't left Hoopa in over a month, and only went into Hoopa to send plants for trade. I'm almost nervous, but a friend is going with. She has to pick up siding, and I need lumber and 240# dog food. The truck will be happy so full.
For all you with screaming body parts: Have you noticed that when you stop moving it hurts worse? So the only choice is to keep moving!
Goodness gracious....this must be "lurker's day". LOL Just a ~~~ to everyone, glad Elaine is home, and a special paw shake for Samson.
The only excitement in my life is your life stories (smile) and my Cannas are BLOOMING!!!
Pati the lurker
4paws, hi , nice to see you again, do not stay away
Thanks, Maria!
Well, I've managed to stay clean and not dressed yet playing in DG. This is winter behavior. But actually, I'm first off to do a local radio show about the upcoming event of the year (as far as I'm concerned) - the HSUS spay/neuter clinic in two weeks. I make sure all the volunteers (about 50) get fed, and sometimes go around the streets and scoop up strays.
Have a great day everyone! Gotta boogie.
Welcome to the two newbies!! Glad to have ya at the table...
Flamingo - that spraying would have me going crazy. Sure hope everything lives - give DH a whack from me!! I have fears of spot killing dandelions with roundup instead of dandy killer stuff. I always try to check and double check!
4paws, my body is in agony today and no energy. I think I used every bit of it yesterday. But alas, I have to get more done today as they are saying we are in for 6 days of cold and rain.
IO1 -welcome back!! Isn't it good to be home!! The minute I get somewhere I think about going home. I've always been that way - didn't like to stay at overnighters even as a kid .
Thought about going to my favorite garden centers, but I'll postpone that for a rainy day I think - too much to do here.
Take care everyone...(grabbing a piece of banana bread)
Oh, just thought of something else. I was googling my favorite greenhouse to check on their hours and found a thing from here - with ME talking - it was about the greenhouse. I didn't think info we wrote from other forums ended up on the www. Am I wrong??? Makes me leary.....
I just downed a brownie I found in my car-how sick is that!!!! I was having a chocolate withdrawal...it hit the spot - a bit dry tho...
Sarv,
Take a look at these 2 pages. http://davesgarden.com/forums/

Molly, can parking lot pop up all over too??? I knew others could see the first frame, but somehow thought the rest were hidden too from everyone who wasn't a subscriber
Okay, sitting down a minute to catch my breath. Whew, how did this house get so dirty while we were gone? And the laundry monster ... yuck! he *really* grew!! I'm exhausted and it's only lunchtime. Hmmm, I've decided I deserve to get to play at least an hour!
Hey sarv ... I too have googled and found me discussing things here on DG. I donno? Meant to tell you also that the DH has one of the flashlights that you crank to work, and he just loves the thing. Of course ... he has some sort of love relationship with flash lights. :) I'm not sure exactly what it is, but he can't seem to turn them down.
Hi Carole and 4paws. So so glad to have y'all. Don't be strangers, okay?
Who's responsible for the banana bread? Maria was that you? Thanks! I swiped a piece with the cream cheese. Think I saw some cookies also. Oh yum! I gained 3 lbs. while I was gone. Gonna have to figure out a time to get back on the tredmill ... it won't be today though. :)
Hi Pati ... you need to pop in more, also. I miss you when you don't post.
Ernie ... are you *seriously* 104? That's just remarkable!! I'm really impressed. I hope I can still move when I'm 75 much less type when I'm 90. ;) That's wonderful Hang in there!
Viann, enjoyed all your comings and goings and the explanation on harmonics. You always amaze me.
Mary ~ did Patch and Breezy get good reports at the vets yesterday?
Kooger, I too am glad Kandyce is getting counceling and am continuing to pray for both her and her baby. In fact, the entire family continues to be in my prayers.
Babs, glad to hear about your hostas. I was just *sick* when I came home as the squirrels had been up to their ole games and broken off a leaf to one of mine. They had dug in all my pots even though I've laid pieces of wood across the tops of the pots. I'm through messing around with them and am going to get some chicken wire to cut to fit the tops of the pots. Am going to fix their wagon *once* and for all!!!
Has Susan come home yet? Can't remember how long she was to be gone. Sure hope she's having a good time. What about Carol? Has anyone had an update on her DD?
Well, this is getting lengthy and the devilish dryer keeps buzzing so I'll go on and post for now. Waving to everyone I've not mentioned.
~~~Elaine
hope - join in too!! Diapers are for the moisture crystals in them. I had a bunch left over from DGS and didn't want to trash them...
Twyla,
It's good to see you stopping in.. You shoulda brought some of those cakes in yesterday. They sound wonderful and fun.
Hope all is well out there in Tulsa with you, your family and Tazzy.
Molly
:^)))
Sarv,
You are right, the Parking lot is shown as (*) subscribers only.
Maybe someone should ask Dave about that. Or maybe yall got to see the stuff in astericks because you ARE subscribers and you never log off of Dave's. I know I never log off.
Molly
They've threatened rain since last night, but I've seen nary a drop, wish it would, we could use it.
Yesterday was a no plans day, and I ran all over the place...so today I really did nothing worth mentioning except I went and injured my bank account by putting four new tires on my car. After DH did the brakes, it felt like I was driving on marbles, he had rotated the tires and the front and back weren't evenly worn. Front tires get the worst wear because of the weight of the motor, and the back tires wore unevenly for some reason. No point in splitting hairs, so I just replaced them all. Spent an hour at the tire store sitting in the grubby waiting room, reading and downing a extra large coffee.
Then I called my DIL and we met for lunch, and I had a salad instead of my usual cheeseburger and fries, and even passed on pie ...I feel quite virtuous. Had melon for breakfast. Determined not to put on all those pounds I lost last week. We'll see how long this resolve lasts. Probably until the chocolate wagon goes past.
Sarv, you and I are mirror images....just hand me a ticket, I'll go anywhere at the drop of a hat. Fly, drive, mule train, whatever. Love flying, hate airports. Except ours has a really nifty used book store with racks and racks of all kinds of books for a good price!
Is Ernie really 104, or is he just pulling my (our) leg? He's pretty sassy for an old coot. I thought Oz was at least 104....! You're only as old as you feel, which makes me about 213. Today anyway.
Welcome newbies, and welcome back Elaine, and hello to the lurkers, we know you are out there, we can hear you breathing.
Did I say I was going to iron today? I lied. It can wait. Tomorrow my DD is going to do my roots so I'll be off northward early because she's got a dog to groom at noon. Then for sure it will rain for my long drive.
Gonna go freezer dive and see if I can find that pork tenderloin and garlic mashed potato leftovers I tossed in there a couple weeks ago, and that will take care of dinner. I always swear I am going to keep it organized and label everything, but my good intentions are paving a road to somewhere because it doesn't happen.
Dang, I forgot the baby diapers again. Also need to go find some sweet potato tubers I salvaged last fall and see if they survived. Off the chair, and onto useful endeavors. ~~~ at everyone.
Sheila
Okay, about those diapers.....do they already have the moisture thingys in there? Which diapers? Does it help on water consumption and do they degrade away sufficiently, and how long?
Questions questions, I have so many of them.........
Molly
They have crystals in them to absorb liquid, and if you rip them apart and take out the absorbant part, it will hold moisture in a basket or a planter so that it doesn't dry out so fast. I haven't used them before so this will be experimental for me, but others have said that it works,so I'm willing to try. My containers dry out really fast and sometimes I need to water twice a day in the hot months.
Sheila
Sheila,
Would that work in the ground? and which diapers are they, any special brand?
Molly
:^)))
thanks all of you for the warm welcome!
I work 6-3 at a luxury car dealership here in atlanta. I'm the receptionist. busy, busy, busy. I average answering and directing approx 100 calls an hour. Sure doesn't pay what nursing did! In between calls and customers I can get on the internet.
The baby diapers work GREAT in hanging baskets! Myself, no particular brand. Whatever is on sale. Molly, I am waiting also to hear about putting them in the ground.
Well, came home from work today....things are not looking too great outside. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I managed to rinse the killer stuff off most of the plants. D(?)H has a meeting to go to this evening. Good thing too!
Maria, would love to have your bananna bread recipe. I have about 6 in the freezer. Never tried it with cream cheese though. Sounds good.
Meezers, your post struck me funny. Going to DD for a root touch-up and dog grooming in the same sentence! It just tickled me.
The kitty kids just threw their food bowl down the stairs. It's their indication that they are not too pleased that it's empty. I guess we should feet grateful that they actually let us live here!
Twyla
I know, I know, I soon will be known as the MIA person. Will tell you all about my day, after I address all.
Hi Oz, we now know something else about you---YOU HAVE A DEATH WISH!! You know better than to address a bunch of ladies as "old girls". You know we are a group of distinguished, well behaved ladies, and as someone said, old girls sounds like you were addressing the dairy herd. Sure hope that you can run fast, if ever you meet one of us face to face.!! LOL
Maria, Samson doesn't have a mean bone in his body, we will have to send him to "mean school", or just let him lick Oz to death.
Molly, yeah, rain. Hope that door doesn't leak. I am sure that the plants will love it. Rain has to happen occasionally to get the indoor things done.
Sarv, Watch that back. Supper at 2 pm, just call it your afternoon snack.
lauriewilson, so if you go missing, do we look in the rose bushes first. What the heck are "cowboy cookies?"
Kooger, never thought I would say "sorry about the colonoscopy being cancelled". LOL, But better safe than sorry. I don't have a clue on the Round Up, question.
Grettagibbs, I just thought he was indestructabel. LOL 104 indeed!!
FlamingoCarole, you are welcome here, but from now on, you will be addressed as FC by me. Cuts down on the typing. And that DH's deed is grounds to kill him. Ain't no jury in the country that would convict you!!
4paws, welcome. Good reason to keep moving, because it hurts so bad when you stop. LOL You sound like you volunteer for a good cause.
Pattischell, don't lurk so much, just come on in and chat with us more.
101, you don't know how much I miss you when you are gone, and not posting. Sounds like you had a good graduation, a bonus engagement and a reunion. Sorry about the bad weather.
hope, you are not rude, just jump in anytime. If you are like me, sometimes if I wait to say something, I forget what it was!!
M5, I am with you, have suitcase will travel, anywhere, any time, except when family members are sick. What do you mean organize a freezer, if the manufacturers had intended that, they would have put shelves like library shelves in it. My motto is, toss it in, and if I can close the lid it's all good.
I had a D-mail from DR, Carol, and she said that hospice had been called in for her DF. They have stopped the chemo, as he couldn't eat or sleep, and the Doctors didn't think it was doing anything to treat the cancer. So let's all hold her up in our prayers.
Well, DM got to come home from the hospital today, so I have spent the better part of the day getting her home and situated, waiting for the company who supplies oxygen to come set up her equipment, and cooking her supper. In the "free time" I had today, I organized DMIL's medical bills, wrote letters asking for amounts after insurance payments, and generally covering DH's rear side. Oh, I am so mad, because he hasn't done it, and mad at me for doing it. And mad because he went and bought DGD a several thousand dollar horse!!
Well, gonna go eat supper, and try not to let my "looks" kill him. I do want something left to wale the c---- out of him.
Later
