Thanks for the stories guys--I get such "mental pictures" from ya'lls great writing...sure was good to come home and read these! Had a day today at work that satan himself must have stayed up late last night. The kids were horrible and the administrators were even worse.
Thanks for allowing me to vent...I will come up with some sort of story tomorrow night. Perhaps one of many horse kicks Debbie in the head "tails"...who' responsible for letting that dog in the school this morning? LOL

Oh yes, tell me a story! Can only imagine the strange and wonderful tales you must have from school!
Oh yeah--one of the little "darlings" walked off with my data traveller (memory card--external hard drive) last Wednesday....now I do make back-ups...just hadn't gotten around to it since Christmas (I know, I know...but does ANYBODY really make back ups as often as they should?)
Hey, I love to reinvent the wheel....
Is my sarcasm showing? LOL
Debbie
No Debbie, I hadn't noticed even a hint of sarcasm...
OMG! if he wasnt so young I would hunt him down! LOL
I am just guessing that he doesn't know the wonders of "older women" and I am more than willing to show him those wonders! Wow. Time for a cold shower. LOL.
I'll help you enlighten him...most young guys are aware of it if you get my drift....
Well yes, but the real question is, does Brad? and can I get close enough to enlighten him before the bodyguards catch me?
LOL

Back to the critters...I seem to have a field mouse in my garden. I must have to many edibles in the garden this year. I saw him Sunday, high noonish and high heat time, run along the top fence rail. I thought I saw him scurry under my tomato bushes last night (or maybe I'm seeing the 'shadow' rodents? lol). I wonder what I can do? Please don't suggest a cat. The neighborhood has plenty and that's not taking care of the problem. Maybe mouse or rat traps? Anybody else ever had this problem?
Debbie
I have a rat...well he's not mine but the house across the street is vacant and the back yard has weeds as high as the fence. The HOA hasn't done anything about it. It's awful. Anyway that's where I think he lives in the day time, but at night he comes to my yard! Some of us are just lucky aren't we. Anyway he runs up my rain gutter when I come outside. My DH suggests putting some screening over the rain gutter to block off his safe escape.
I am reluctant to put our poison- my dog is not very bright. There is nothing that it is eating in my yard, although I think the original attraction was the bird's nest at the top of his rain gutter/escape hatch.
Any suggestions would be helpful. I did read about a spray or product that makes mice and rats think that bobcats live there and that makes them stay away, but I am not sure if that works. Anybody?
April
Is it just one rat April? I thought Rats run in packs. I just never heard of someone having one rat, he must be huge. lol
Oh, ya'll are giving me the "willies". That means if I saw one, there must be alot more I didn't see....remind me to put on those"big rubber boots everyone in Texas has on the back of their pick-up trucks" before I go out back in the dark. Is there a chair handy I can jump up on....oh, I don't like rodents!
.....of course there is more, they breed in multiples you know. its just that they all look alike, so april thought she was seeing the same rat going up the drain pipe. lol
Well, I ways getting a little low on things to worry about....lol
Ok maybe in the city they run in packs, but I will tell you one of my stories...gosh Debbie, can you stand another?
2 house ago: the home owner before us had screened in a patio which created a planter area about 3 feet x 6 feet, give or take. On one side of this area was a solid wall, on 2 of the sides there are windows (bedroom & living room) and on the 4th side is a screened door and screened panels. The top of this area is open. The home owner had planted a fan palm which I am sure was small at one time, but 20 years later it was huge and there were many dead fans which I had no way of reaching. My husband told me that he'd seen a rat....fyi this is semi country/suburb area...in the screened porch area. We figured it had been after the bird seed so I put it into an impervious container and we figured that was that. Only one morning as I walked by the window and looked out in the planter area, at the base of the palm, starring at me w/ very dark, eyes was....a rat! I am not a fan of rodents, including guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, etc so I told my husband he had to get rid of it. Please don't bother reporting us to the authorities I don't care, I'd do it again! He took his bb gun and one shot to the head, it was dead. I was happy.
Bottom line, yes they do all look alike, but there was only one. I think the females are more inclined to hang out together but the males perhaps are solitary. I don't know, but I know that if City_Sylvia says that I have more than one she is on my list! LOL. So while you are all chuckling, you didn't give me any advise!
Several weeks after my DH killed the rat I bought one of those beanie babies, it was a rat, don't know the name of it or care, and I put it on top of my DH's PC- told him I was writting to the Animal Channel to see if we could get him a new series. LOL.
April
Hey I'm with you April--that sounds like a great solution.....not exactly like rats are an endangered species! Plus you can always justify it by the fact that they carry so many diseases etc. but in my opinion, you don't need to justify it at all!
By the way, did you catch that daylily sale Marylyn has been talking about on the other thread...I think the one called "Garden Visit" or "sit a spell"? I'm meeting Marylyn down there. Not sure how much "sense" I'll have after another day at work, but.....
Debbie
an ardent rodent hater
No unable to make this sale. I have a 10.00 coupon from Buchanans- sent if for my birthday and I have waited as long as I can.
Will let you know what I get and if you need to be jealous. LOL.
Oh I will be jealous! LOL
Sprinkle Cayenne Pepper anyplace you don't want rats and they will not return. They go around sniffing and get a snootfull. They will abondon their young rather than face a second encounter. Repeat after a big rain.
Trois you are my hero!!!! Thank you will do it this weekend!
Debbie, this is for you. I hope that it makes you feel safer in the classroom-

What is the world coming to? People are getting crazier and crazier!
Oh April--you are a gem! Laughing hysterically here...funny thing is, we have homeroom at the end of the day and I've been out in the halls, releiving stress by telling kids to go back where they came from if they ain't got a pass....ROFL although it is sad.
Thought for sure it was a link to you know who...guess I'll just have to settle for lookin' at this...lol (Michael is gonna KILL me for this!--shhhh don't tell him! lol
Trois thank you! Am taking my "little cocktail" out to garden with cayenne in hand......woe is the creature that crosses my path.
I'm so tired I can't even spell anymore....Do I care? Nahhh

Debbie, I dont know what your problem is, but Michael is really easy on the eyes ... lol
Debbie did I get a plant like that from you at the ru? It look almost like a fern with loads of little red flowers on the end. Anyway its still in the pot and turning brown and the flower are all gone. Whats happening to it or what do I do with it? I love that plant :(
Sylvia
Sylvia--You got the plant from CJ in the Woodlands, but it is the same plant. I noticed she had several with her. Stick it in the ground....but it clearly will get huge! It's one of the toughest plants I have and is real drought tolerant if you watch it for the first year or two until it becomes well established. It may freeze up there, so perhaps a bigger pot? I also don't know how well it was rooted, maybe some shade for a while? But definitely repot to a larger size or put in the ground. Mine blooms all year around (not as much as the picture though) even in January. I'm pretty sure its in the PlantFiles, its called Russelia equisetiformis. My info says a half-hardy tropical protect below 25 degrees. Height 3' (that's correct) width 6' (mines a bit wider maybe 8') and is xeriscapic (but watch it the first year or two). Mine is about 7 years old.
Yeah....Sylvia, Michael is alright! I just thought for sure April had given me a link to Brad...lol
Gotta go get ready to meet Marylyn at the daylilly sale.
Debbie
Oh Deb that Russelia looks TADAA!! and Michael ain't to bad either!
You should have gone with me and Marylyn...they had yellow russelia's at Joshua's. I passed on them....but I know where to go back and get it....hehehe
Michael will do in a pinch....lol
Debbie
Thannks Debbie for the info. Michel in a pinch? I doubt that very seriously. lol
I adore rusellia.
Vossner--you have to admit russelia is the easiest, most drought tolerant "thug" you can have in your garden...and it even sometimes blooms some in the dead of winter here.
Deb
I have the yellow!!!! A rather large one, let me know and I will make a cutting for you.
April
I would love one April...need red? LOL
HAHAHAHA! When I collect plants I make sure to get one of each...or 2 or 3.... I have a nice red one and my big yellow and I bought a second yellow - so glad that I did because it has "branch" or 2 of each. It's very beautiful.
Got any cuphea micropetala--cigar plant? Great fodder for the hummers...there's 2 of my pics in the PlantFiles.
Or perhaps tempt you with a echinacea 'rubistem' or echinacea 'primadonna rose'? Custom grown herbs? or somthing else?
Debbie, thanks for posting that pic of russelia. I have one that's very young and my DH was looking at it one day and said "What is this thing supposed to be?" I told him it's a russelia and some day it'll be a really awsome plant. He said Yep, I'm sure.lol I can't wait to show him your picture.
BTW I have your datura plants. I can remember who else wanted one.
Another Mary, Josephine said...did she mean Marylyn maybe?
Oh, maybe Maggiemoo.
Yes I love that Russelia too its an awsome plant ... dont know why I never see it before. You guys have introduced me to some wonderful plants that is so easy to grow. It going out front too with the Golden Rod, Salvia and other sun loving stuff ... cant wait to see the Red Penstemon. :)
I know that plant must be all over in Dallas...no?
Well how could anyone pass up echinacea 'primadonna rose'- the name alone is alluring.
