Do you live in North Carolina or Tennesee???

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

lots of space, mountains, scenic views, colorful autumn foliage (ours is brown), covered bridges...a-h-h-h! sounds like a spa getaway!

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

Ah-hh, Sounds good !! Sooo much to choose from down yonder!!!! Darn! Going to be tough to pick!!!

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

If you are not in a rush, I think it sounds like fun shopping - especially if you have some time to visit some of the areas when you get it narrowed down a bit. Even better, maybe you could find DG'ers to host you and show you around the target areas!

Have you ever been to www.webshots.com? It's my 2nd favorite website. It's intended as a place to store and share photos, but as a side effect I find that I have learned more about what the world really looks like from looking at photos of people's "backyards" in webshots. It has both professional photos and amateur photos that run the gamut from really good to .... You can search on a place or on mountains or whatever, and there is a travel section. Might be another way to get to see some of the areas that you are considering. Many people either label the photos or the album or their webpage to indicate the location. That's how I accidentally learned about the beautiful "painted" hills in California and the bluebells in Texas and the poppies on the west coast and about the incredible views in Arizona. Check it out.

scutler,

I'm coming down your way for a week at the beach (Isle of Palms). Looking forward to it ... and the big festival that week! And all the cool historical buildings, etc.

Charleston's got it all, too, in a different kind of way. Don't you love this age of travel?!?

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

IRIS, that's wonderful! Tell us about your new place, and plans you have for it, please.

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

Iris, GREAT! The hard part is all behind you, and you can look forward to many wonderful days.

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

Hi lizh! I'm in the Southwestern end about 100 miles from atlanta, In the Greenville county area, It was a litle rough sailing in the beginning, But all is going much smoother now. Happy to see you, Hope all has been well with you!!!!

Darius, It's a three bedroom trilevel, It's about 1800 S. ft. - Had about 1000 S ft. before, So it seems so much more roomier, Not much land at all, Only a fraction of what I had before but, I couldn't keep up with what I had before so maybe having a lot less is a good thing. It's in a sub-division, So there are many houses around, But it's a realativly quite neighborhood and the people I've meet who live around me ( My neighbors) seem really nice!! I'm only about 5-10 minutes from all major stores ( which is very convieneint) Got a fenced in backyard which helps a lot so the dog can run freely and I don't have to worry much about it. It allready had a vegetable garden ( Which I will be using for a flower bed) And it had some plants and shrubs so I don't have to start right from scratch again! I was looking for something with an acrea or two, but couldn't find anything nice with land in my pricerange and got anxious at the end after living in a hotel for almost a month and a half ( very costly!!) Then we got this one and so far, Pretty content! It will take a while to adjust to the surroundings after living secluded for 16 years, But all seems pretty good so far, I give it two years, And if all is still well, Then this is where we will stay, And if not, We will sell and look at other locations. I have allready moved 6 shrubs and I'm going to be putting in 6 Festive Red Hollys this week. Put out some bird feeders, It took a few days, But , I'm allready getting a lot of birds! We have painted the kitchen over, It was green and had a 'green cieling' , Someone had removed wallpaper on it and never got the glue off and then painted over the glue!! Needless to say, We had to use electric sanders and sand down all the walls and prime them before we could paint!!! What a job and a half that was!! Not something I ever want to do again!!! Now it's pale yellow, With a white ceiling, Looks so much brighter and better! I'm going to do tile flooring and change the counter tops and then it will look really nice, Down the road, I'd like to re-do the cabinets and paint them white.
We had just started moving in here about the 18th of December, So been pretty busy doing things around here, We had company from Florida come for a visit for a few days and that was nice as we really don't know very many people around here yet. We had taken a ride out to see the mountains a short while back ( The Blue ridge and Smokey mountains) and they were breath taking! Just love seeing them!! There is sooooo much more to do around here then there was where we use to live!!! The taxes are "alot" cheaper, People are a lot friendlier, And life seems like it would be a lot easier here!
One thing I 'Really Miss" about the North, Is all my plants!! They went with the house, So I had to leave them ( I had 125 different daylilys) plus tons of other plants, trees and shrubs! I left a lot of garden statuary, arbors, tools, ect. because we just didn't have the room in storage for them, We had 2 storage units that were full and we just couldn't take everything. we had moved 16 years of accumulation in two weeks! So, Now, I'll just have to start over again, But, It wasn't plantless when we moved here, So I won't be starting from scratch, I do look forward to the longer growing season here and the variety of plants that can be grown here that couldn't be grown in the North-East, It will be a whole new adventure!!! I know the summer is going to be a lot more hot and humid here, But I like the heat so I don't feel it will be too unbearable for me, I look forward to seeing what it's going to be like here throughout the year.
I've included a few pics of the house for you, I haven't taken many pictures yet as I've been so busy trying to get some things done.
How have you been doing with your new place????????? Please let me know how all is going for you there!!

flowerlady, Thankyou! The hard part 'is' behind! And if I ever move again, I'll make sure to do it in a different way then how it was done this time!!! Live and learn, Experience is a good teacher!! lol!! I sure do look forward to what it's going to be like through the year this year!! :)

Oh, Iris... it's wonderful. I'm so thrilled for you!

Things are slow here right now between cold weather and lack of money. I plan a decent veggie garden this year and hope for a few flowers. 2008 will be the year to really start flower beds here.

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

shoe, Snow there, A bit of freezing rain here, Brrr, Makes you want to take a nap!! I''m sure Alex found something to do with her time off.
Look forward to your D-mail! I'm in-between doing wash and such here, But, I'll catch up with you!! ( P.S. Take a towel, Shove it in the dryer, Let it heat up and then wrap it around your toes, Warm's ém right up and feels great!)

darius, Thankyou! You'll have to keep me informed of how your veegie garden works out this year! I''ll be just starting out here with the flower beds, but, Once they get going and I get some extra's, I'll be happy to share some with you for your flower beds when your ready to start them. :)

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

Iris, when you get a chance, wander over to the Mid-South forum and check us out, if you haven't already. I know SC is not 'mid-south', but we take all comers!

iris,
I don't know what made me stumble in this forum but i found you! Wow....I thought you had fallen off the face of the earth!
Congratulations on your move and new home! For all you "southerners" you are very lucky to have this "Northerner" in your neck of the woods! The Northeast forum missed her terribly, Iris, hope you drop in and say hi now and then.
If you find that you are missing your DL way to much, drop me an d-mail and i'll send you some fans. If memory serves me correctly, we grew alot of the same DL and iris's.
Again, Congratulations!!!!!
Celeste

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

pixie, So Great to see you again!!!! I know I haven't been around for a while, I was trying to fix up the old place a bit and get it ready for selling, Then it sold and had to store sooo much stuff, And then there was the 'move' and finding a place, And finally, All moved in and back at Daves!!!! I must say, I really do like it here!! I know the summers are going to be a lot hotter then the North, But, It comprimises with the winter weather!! I just can't deal with the snow and cold anymore and having such a short growing season!
Thankyou SO Much for the nice compliments, Makes me feel really good after reading that!! I 'will' be sure to stop in the NE forum along the way and see how everyones doing and say hello.
I DO miss my DL's terribly, But, I have a lot less space here for growing, So I'm going to limit myself to 5 of my favorites out of all I had. Down the road, I'll take you up on your kind offer and see what we can work out if you have any of the favorites that I'm going to pick out as I know we did pretty much collect the same varietys, I'd have to see what I could give you in return. Thankyou So Much for the Congrats and nice words, It really does mean a lot!!! Makes me feel like I'm 'Right Back Home" at Daves!!!
