Texas Statewide Roundup in Photos
Actually Sylvia--I think that was while you were dealing with the car rental people.
Debbie
Oh my Silvia, It is ok. Only us Dgers here. FAMILY!! We don't care if you sleep. You're sweet!!
Blessings,
Sandy ^8^
Sylvia - On April 30 at 8:56 you said "If anyone missed me, I fell asleep in the car ... its a wonder I didnt have a sunstroke! ... but I made it to the party. lol" That's how I knew it. And like Sandy says, "It's OK". I know there wasn't a lot of sleeping going on the night before!
CJ
That is the truth. I think I got 2 hours because of the excitment and nervous if ya'll (laying accent on thick) would like me in person. And I didn't have to be nervous at all (or atleast I don't think so) LOL ;o)
Exciting it was. Glad we came. You all are everything and more in person.
AMEN, sister!!
Oh yeah Ceejay I remember, I did! Mercy i am getting old. I went to the doctor today and told him I was falling asleep everywhere. I even fell asleep on the Pope in Rome! lol I cant take those pain pills and stay alert. Sheila told me I should be taking my Naproxin on a regular basis amd I would not need the darn pain pills and she was right I am a lot better now, but I still go get my shot in the hip Friday. lol
I hope you guys didnt think I went to sleep purposely. I had a wonderful time ... I cant wait until October!
Sylvia
Oh Ceejay would you email me a copy of that pic with me Linda(smockett) and Labcoat in the middle. If we dont look suspicious as all out! LMBO!
Sylvia
Sylvia - Be glad to. Would a d-mail work, or do you want to give me your e-mail address?
Wow, looks like y'all had a fantastic time. It is so nice to see maggiemoo, silver and trois again! Y'all look great.
Saint (araness) and I were talking just now that we MUST come to the next one.
Michelle
Tomato,
Let me know if you want to "carpool" when the next one is announced...I want to go too!
I'm meeting Lily13 and her DH tomorrow night for dinner (I just met her on DG and we live about 5 minutes from one another in Lakeway!) and we thought a once- or every other-month garden get together of Austinites who belong to DG might be fun! She and DH attended the RU and loved it. (My DH just comes in on weekends so he didn't really want to go.)
Connie-- in Austin, too
I hope I can be at the next one, but I'll have to wait and see when they decide to do it.
If ya'll decide to have a nursery tour, let me know. I'm about 1 hr from the west side of Austin.

Silver...
I personally plan to host a nursery tour here in Austin this summer after I'm "settled" in for my summer vacation from teaching. Lily13 lives about 5 minutes from me (we're meeting for dinner tomorrow night for the first time!) and she and I might host it together. People could meet at my house, park, and we would take a couple of SUV's to several nurseries, and have lunch in between. I'm glad to hear that you would like to join us! What works best for you...day of the week or weekend? What month...June or July? A very small group would work best for this local thing, yes?
Connie
Connie, the SUV thing sounds good as long as there's plenty of room for plants.:) As far as month, either one could work for me. Our vacation this year is in May. Day of the week is flexible, Tuesday being the only day that might not work. When we did the nursery tour last year, I think there were 10 or 12. The difficult part of doing a nursery tour of any size is keeping people from getting lost. If we have drivers who know their way around Austin, we can keep the group together.
It's good that you get to meet Lily 13. I think I sort of remember her, but that whole weekend was so hectic that many people are a blur in my foggy brain.:)
Silver - Lily13 had the two little dogs.
Yes, I remember that much, but I don't think I had a chance to talk to her at all. I'm not sure, but I think she had her plants next to mine. It was so busy, I am not even sure who was standing next to me. Is that crazy or what? If I could change anything about the RU it would be to either make the day longer (don't know how anybody could stand that) or to somehow make it easier for people to spend the night. I know many people had to leave because of other things they had to do. I just wish there had been more time to talk face to face. Well atleast if we do a nursery tour I'll get another chance to talk to Lily13 and of course meet you too.:)
It will be fun...which nurseries have you not been to/ would like to visit?
Big Red Sun
Gardens
Pots and Plants
Barton Springs Nursery
Natural Gardener
Marbridge
Sunshine
Red Barn
Great Outdoors
...what have I forgotten?
It's About Thyme (on the way to Marbridge, if you go there) is one of my favorites. Herbs of all sorts, roses, perennials -- lots of good stuff.
Connie, I've been to Pots and Plants, Natural Gardener and one on Mopac on the west side of town that sells a lot of pond plants also. I know nothing about any of the others except what people have told me. I also don't know where they are or how long they would take to see. The time it takes to see a nursery is an important question to ask in the planning stages. I'm thinking we won't have time to see more than 3 without rushing. And my guess is that if Patricia likes It's About Thyme, then I probably would too.:) Have you been there?
ConnieWeb,
I was wandering if your plans for the tour would be open other TX DGer's in the nearby area? I am in San Antonio and have in-laws in Austin. I would like to meet some gardners in person and make new friends.
Wonderful photos of a wonderful day! I had so much fun meeting all of you! Sorry I've been in the shadows but I had a final I was studying for since Sunday evening. And I survived it today, thank goodness. I can't wait to do another roundup!
:) Kim
nivlac, I think the nursery tour is open to whoever. The one we did last year included loudigger from SA and Trois and DWfrom LaGrange and dStartz from Alice, Maggiemoo from Conroe and others I can't remember. If you want to carpool, there may be others coming from SA also. Loudigger (Margie) came to Fredericksburg and we went together in my car. What part of SA are you in?
Kim,
We enjoyed visiting with you, and Robert is so pleased with his new agave. It looks sharp and dangerous to me! It had a little one in the bottom of the pot, which ended up in my lap along with a bunch of dirt, when he came in to show it to me. LOL He gets to weed the end of the bed where plant and child are planted. Relax and enjoy yourself for a while before the next round of classes!
Patricia
I an in the NW part of SA. bordering Castle Hills city property line. It is nice, wish I had more property though. Maybe someday. I am currently on approx. 1/5 of an acre. For now that is all I can handle. I would like to turn most of the lawn into gardens of various sorts and motifs. I am glad to be here and learn and share.
calvin(nivlac)
HI Calvin...
Thanks for posting! And...
A HEARTY WELCOME TO DG!
Hope to see you around the site!
Shoe.
hi shoe,
glad to be here.
Hi Nivlac / Calvin...whoever
Yes, everyone is welcome to go on a nursery tour that is an offshoot of Dave's Garden. I just meant that if more than--say, five cars --were to go, we could not meet at my house because of the parking issue if we wanted to carpool. But we could certainly meet at a convenient place in town and then caravan from there. After we decide which nurseries we would visit, someone could decide on a plan of attack and publish the route/times/ place for lunch! Should I start a separate thread on this topic?
Yes, I was also thinking we should start a thread so that way other people can find out about this. It would be great to meet at your house so we could see your yard. Studying somebody else's yard is a good way to learn new ideas. But if we have too many cars we'll meet someplace else.
Of course it is open to everyone!! The more the merrier calvin. Connie, you live in Lakeway....how do you keep the deer from eating all your plants?! I'm in north Austin near Mopac/Parmer.
I think we did the nursery tour on a Saturday in July lst year. A weekday is good for me..actually better b/c DH won't feel neglected. :) Also, the nurseries will be less crowded. We did do the Natural Gardener which was my fave. The other one that Silver is talking about was called the Emerald Gardens. That one was great too. I think about 4-5 will fill up the entire day...Silver...what do you think? Red Barn is way up here sort of near me on 183/Pond Springs. It is more out of the way than the others I think. It seems there are more Nurseries in south austin. We don't have much to pick from up in the northern part of the city unless we want to go to Round Rock. OH...I've heard that Howard nursery is good...it is on Burnet somewhere.
Connie, since you already have a great list...are you signing up to arrange our nursery tour? THat is fun that you are going to meet a DGer. Ampy is right down Metric from me.
Michelle
I'm wondering if people want to go back to nurseries they saw before and liked or go to nurseries they haven't been to before. Unexplored territory is pretty exciting to me. I don't know when these places open, but assuming they open at 10, we could see 1 before lunch. Then take an hour or so for lunch and do atleast 2 more, maybe 3. Are any of them open past 6? We have to allow for traffic too. I don't know where they are or how difficult it is to get from one to the other.
Silver, we can check out the times of the nursery openings and closings of the ones we are thinking of doing. I think Red Barn opens at 8am. Not sure about the closing time.
Michelle
Oh, that wouldbe a big help if they open at 8. If we can just get everybody together that early. Can somebody who knows their way around Austin open a thread about this? I know very little about Austin.
Did someone say nursery hopping? :) I'm always up for that!
Kim
Hi Kim, How did the final go? And when do you leave to take your pig home?
I started a new thread in the Texas Gardening Forum called "Nursery Tour in Austin" just now. If interested, you might want to begin posting on that thread.
Connie
Hello!
The final went well...although it may be a week or so until we get our grades. Just found out today our 2-day qualifying exam in physiology is in about a month...so I'll be back to studying again soon! I am leaving on Wed to take Cleo home...still makes me sad but it will be the best thing for her. I just can't seem to get home before 6pm...and when I do I never seem to have the energy she requires. Of course the other day I saw an email about a puppy...soooo cute...but then I'd be right back where I was with Cleo. I guess it's up to the cats to keep me company for now.
:) Kim
They should be good company. Ours certainly are demanding of attention. Very vocal!
Kim,
Wish I could ride with you. I would have my brother if free come get me. When do you have to be back home here? Sounds like a fast trip.
It is hard to let our babies go even if it is best. Give Cleo a hug for me.
I really enjoyed meeting you. Had a lot of fun. I loved walking around Martha's blooms with you. And lunch with maggiemoo, silverflutter and DH. He enjoyed his weekend. Everyone made him feel right at home even though as he said he doesn't know plants. HE WILL.....hehehehe
Blessings,
Sandy ^8^
