Just wanted to get my post on here early. LOL

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, I have cruised all the forums, got completely caught up, and now it is time to hit the bed. I was wondering, where's Ernie, Kooger, Daisyruffles, morningale, woofens, Oz, have we offended in some way? Please just come in and say hello, we miss you.

Well tomorrow morning DGD and I are heading out to a Dogwood festival in an adjoining county. Have all kinds of arts and crafts, taking my camera, so I can take pics instead of buying, and a great plant sale sponsored by the Garden Club!! Now these are not DG personalities, but ELITE SOCIETY in this town, so whatever I buy will have to be segregated from the ordinary things, many of which came from DG'ers!! LOL. May have some plant envy if I intermixed them. The great thing is they always have dogwood trees, for about $10.00, so may add some more for here. I really need a pink one.

DS helped me tonight to trim Mr. B's toenails. He is such a funny dog, has "shunned me" as I was the one who actually trimmed the nails, DG held him. Does this with baths, toenail trimming, taking medicine and putting on the Frontline. Somehow thinks he is being punished. Poor little soft hearted sweetie. We will be best buds again tomorrow!!

Good night all.

Early morning here! 3am and I am up- ready to go!! I've most of my packing done, cookies packed, directions all memorized (until I get behind the wheel LOL) I sure have my nights and days mixed up - wish my old body would get on a normal schedule.

Went out for grumpy DIL's BD last night to a local chinese place. Had a good time - she was in good spirits and the food was good as usual. DH ordered something HOT (we generally share a meal) and I left smokin....Had an egg roll and soup, so that really was enough for me!

Stuff in the greenhouse all watered. I found a tray of licorice plant just covered with aphids. I took it out of the greenhouse and stuck it in the barn - hope it can live until I get home and can decide what to do with it. I've babied it all winter and am just sick that it got the crud now!! I tried the soapy water on stuff one year and it killed everything. Anybody have any sure way to get rid of aphids?

Maria, beautiful tree...flowering trees are so lovely- they just don't last long enough. I have two flower boxes on my deck railing, however they dry out so so fast. I put some of those water crystals in last year, but this year will double what I put in. Mine are metal with that coir mat inside and I think that just wick the moisture out. What plants are you going to put in your boxes?? This year I'm stuffing mine with calabracoa (spelled x I am sure!) and licorice plants if mine live.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Back again - LOL, I wrote a long message last night and my page was timed out, so rather than have it happen again, I sent what was written... LOL

defoe- love the hosta. I have some huge ones too. In fact they are so huge that I need to move things that they are covering up! Love the azalea - I just bought one. It is a little stinker - hopefully it will get big! Mine is the same color too!! Wow that was some order you got in the mail - I'm impressed that you got it all planted. My new plants are all on the patio yet!! Can't decide where to put everything..

Vi- what in the world is corn glutten? fertilizer? Our lawn took an awful beating last summer- hot hot weather and no rain. We lost a bit of it - skunks tore it up looking for grubs...DH plowed some patches up with his snow blade...grrr

Bal - take it easy - don't overdue!! Do you play golf? I played for a couple of years, took lessons and haven't played since. I really don't like it. I did it for the social aspect - now I'd just rather be with my flowers and on here.

Mary, our kitty never uses the inside litter pan- always outside - even in the winter!! Haven't changed it since last summer - good kitty - hate messing with those stinky things!!

DH just rolled out of bed and told me to get my fanny back into bed or I wouldn't be awake to drive down to my sisters. He never has insomnia problems - can fall asleep in the wink of an eye. Well, if I'm missing in action for the next couple of days - don't worry = I'll be thinking of you all!! Hopefully the drive down to Indy will be uneventful- only clink in the plans is that rain is forecasted for the entire weekend. GRR Take care everyone!

Susan, sure hope you have a good trip! Will be thinking and praying for you!

Defoe sounds like you'll be busy in your garden. LOL Wow, lot's of plants! :)

Karot ... Glad to see you checking in. :)

Well the DB is here so I'm limited on time and don't have much to say but wanted to let y'all know I'm still alive. Here's a pic of my herbs the DH took. I'm so glad we had rain and everthing's still green! Will check in when I get a chance. Hope everyone has a wonderful week-end.

Elaine, your herbs look wonderful. I bet you'll be doing some fancy cooking. Enjoy you DB they can be a pain yet so fun to be with.

Sarv, have a great trip and come back with lots of stories for us.

Bonnie, flowers and a grandchild..........what more could you ask for? LOL

Well, it is finally off to work day for me. I will report back on how it went if not to tired tonight. It is supposed to be a great day today.........Enjoy.

I thought that thing on my screen here said 60 degrees. I took a coffee walk outside in my flipflops and robe. Fed the fish in the pond, looked to see what was blooming in the dayliliy field and my fingers are almost numb. 52 degrees. A little too chilly to be outside underclothed.

Nothing ambitious planned for today. Haul more mulch up closer to the house and into the veggie garden. We are trying to make a dent in the 2 truckload pile down by the driveway.

I found some brug cuttings have decided they weren't really dead and are sprouting out of the ground. Think I'll pot them up for a while. Jeremy wants to "mow the lawn", grass, what there is of it. He believes if we mow it a little, it will inspire it to grow some more. Maybe true. But now I have to section off some areas that have very small plants in them so he doesn't mow their heads off. There are some iris bulbs out there by those brugs too. Maybe I can find them.

More coffee, bbl.

Good morning,

Just a quick check-in for now.

Corn gluten or Turf maize:

http://www.environmentalfactor.com/html/uscorngluten.html

>>How does it work? Corn gluten meal controls weeds before they sprout. It controls weed seeds by releasing an organic dipeptide into the soil and inhibiting root formation of germinating weed seeds. It's as easy as 1.2.3... First, broadcast recommended application rate over application area. Next, irrigate your lawn or garden and finally allow for a short drying period afterwards. >>

----------------------------

It also provides some early nutrients to the lawn. I had a company using natural products on my lawn and they forgot the Corn Gluten application last year. This year, I decided I can just do it myself and save some $. I keep enlarging my gardens, but they don't lower the price as a result of less lawn and I didn't think they did all that good a job anyway.

More later. Bell practice all morning.

Well, have had my quota of coffee, and showered, dressed and ready to head out the door. It is already sprinkinling rain, so, don't know what kind of day it will turn out to be. DGD has decided that she is not going with me, but with her friend to a church outing, so it will be just me at the plant sale. Okay, I can do that!!

DH is running the vacuum, citing my back as the reason. Hooray for bad backs!! Might just keep complaining so things will get done, even though my back is feeling great!!

Well, I will check in when I get back, no time to comment right now.

Hope everyone has a good day.

I made a trip up to my house yesterday since the workman have left. I was both appalled and thrilled. The house is upside down, with furniture moved about. My bedroom is completely empty now and there is some serious work going on. Two walls are down and the ceiling is in the midst of being removed. Upper cabinets in the kitchen are gone and so are the light fixtures. And of course, the place is filthy.
Now, on the good side, all the windows have been replaced. I love them. The view is so clear and they tilt in for easy cleaning. The new roof is on. New support under the house is underway. New circuit breaker box is in with a lot of new outlets and overhead lighting.
This reminds me of Molly's and darius' jobs getting her new home and gardens set up. And lets not forget the pumphouse, lol. If it's not raining tomorrow, I will go up and attempt to plant some items.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Yes, Maria I would do that. Can't have it last forever, just a little vacation from house work. Sooner or later it will end. hehehe.

nice trees.

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi all! My ears were burning defoecat! MG's computer blew up.. like really... started smoking.... so she is computerless, and has no idea when they can get another, her DH has been on and off work due to a wrist injury, he may need surgery. I talk to her just about every day on the phone, and I have permission to give her phone number to anyone who wants it. Her home phone doesn't have long distance, but she has unlimited LD and free nights and weekends on her cell phone.

As for me, been dealing with the 15 DS, he is still on probation, but he is trying extremely hard to improve things! My DH is getting to the point where I wonder if its worth it to keep trying. That is probably why I haven't been here, I am really struggling with his drinking, and don't want to complain or whine. I knew when we got back together that it was something I would have to accept to be with him. I love him so much, but ......

Enough of that, I have been skimming posts, and haven't really kept up, sorry about that. I tend to kind of close into myself when I am troubled, so I have been reading more, playing Sudoku, I haven't even really planted anything. I did put down some African Violet leaves to make babies, but everything I have started in the house has died, from lack of care.

The kids only have 3 weeks of school left, that is weighing on me too. They get free lunch and breakfast at school, and them home in a summer puts a strain on our already overstretched budget.

Hopefully I will be able to get outside more in the next couple weeks, and get some stuff planted, that should help my spirits. I hope so.

Sorry to lay this on you all.... it is why I have been staying away. I have unlimited LD if anyone wants to talk, I can dmail you my number or call you if you'd prefer. Would love to talk to you guys!

Also, anyone that wants MG's numbers or your number given to MG, Dmail me ok?

Janis, it is that time of day when every one is busy in the gardens, has nothing to do with your post, I know I have been very busy, buying and planting and buying more.

Sorry you have a pocket full of problems and it is ok to vent here, it usually helps to let off steam before really exploding

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Well, today was a BIG waste, costing us at least a week or more delay in going house hunting. Bruce was to be here to work on house repairs today and again tomorrow. He cannot possibly do it all tomorrow even with a helper.

I told my sister when Bruce calls (he didn't return our calls today) that she needs to tell him he'd better be in the hospital since he diden't show up here!!!!

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Yup, I'm waiting for a pork tenderloin to get done but spent the last two hours hauling groceries and starting dinner. No problem unloading here, we do it all the time. Sorry you are having such a rough time, walked in those shoes for a loooong time until I got some grit, and said NO MORE. You have my deepest sympathy, I had small kids too and never could figure out how he always had money for drink, when I was scraping the lint out of my pockets to keep us alive. Lean on us, we are here to listen. I hesitate to give advice because everyone handles their problems differently.

Dang,Darius, he'll be lucky to get away with a little tongue blistering. He'll have to come up with a good one!

What we need is a Coffee and......Tylenol thread for me.

Ouch, i am sore. I went up to the farm today and started planting cedar hedges. I got 13 little guys in, maybe 18" tall apiece. Dug in peat moss and had to haul buckets of water from the spring to water them, but the ground is still cool and moist.

I also put in a Montmorency pie cherry tree, and three highbush blueberries.

In another spot, I dug out about a 10x10 plot, and backed it with a tree hydrangea, then added siberian iris on one side, a couple nice clumps of bearded iris, phloxes in the back, and some asiatic lilies.

All by hand (although it's very sandy and loose). Right now I can't walk!! I have a funny kink in my hip socket or lower back area. ANd I'm covered with dirt.

Hot bath here I come.

Woofens-H! You sure didn't kill the thread, glad to see you again and I'm glad DeWayne seems to be working on things. I hope the other difficulties smooth out for you, it's always something isn't it? I miss MG too, tell her hi!

Woodspirit-Hang in there, soon you'll be posting pics of the beautiful new place. Yup, Molly was an inspiration getting her place together like that, it looks all finished and like it's been there for years. You'll be there too before you know it!

dcat-hope you had a great time at the plant sale!

Ann-Sounds like an interesting lawn regimen, I'm going to read up on it. I like having things organic, mostly it all balances out.

Maria-beautiful plum tree! It reminds of a story I loved as a kid-I just remember the pictures of pink trees..Maybe the story will come to me!

Hi to the rest, I need to go soak in a hot tub (should add some bleach too!! LOL)

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Hi, again today. I sort of got sidetracked this afternoon. Went to the plant sale today, and everything was sky high. They had nice perennials, but even itty bitty ones in a 6 " pot was 7-10 dollars. The only purchases I made was a Gerbera Daisy for Ex DIL, and 12 day lilies, 3 fans for $5.00, so I thought that was pretty reasonable. Oh I did buy some blackberry jam from a lady I know. It is the best I have ever tasted.

Woofens, sorry to hear about all the problems. I have found most just don't go away, you have to work to find a solution. So good luck. Tell, mg I said hi to her, and that she is missed here. Tell her to go to the library and log on the computer there once in awhile.

M5, that pork loin sounds good. I have to host a dinner church meeting on Thursday, and I am planning on making one. What do you cook yours with? Always like to try different things.

dmc, wow, you put me to shame. I would say that the back, etc would be aching. Since it is spring and gardening time in earnest, I am putting a big bottle each of tylenol, Naproxin, aspirin, Excedrin, on the counter, and we will keep the stronger stuff under the counter, and it is by special request only!!

Darius, I would be hopping mad. Hate to wait for someone to come do something, then never shows up.

Well, got some more tomatos potted up this afternoon. Something like 25 or so. Most of those are Late Keepers, supposed to be good for fall/winter storage. I purposely waited a while to start them, as I want these to be the latest tomatos I have. Also started some herbs today. So this next week, I should have a lot of seeds sprouting, with that new perennial garden I sowed. Of course I won't count on much happening this year, but by next it should be really pretty. I still have some work to do on a fragrance garden by my front porch, and DH has yet to prepare the bed for my Day lilies. I am going to move them all to one bed, instead of scattered here and there. Then some planting around a new weeping cheery tree DH put in last week.

Well, got some things to do in the kitchen, I didn't cook, we went out for Chinese, but have to get something ready for tomorrow's dinner, and then a pot luck tomorrow night.

Will be back later.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi folks,

Just popping in for a few minutes before I go practice.

We've just, well maybe not just, but awhile ago, come back from dinner. Went to a Japanese restaurant for Sushi. Yumm! Had time before it got dark to set out my three new peony rings, rake the garden that I dug up removing daylilies yesterday and sow some Larkspur seed, take down the laundry and check my e-mail.

Had bell practice from 10 - 12. My group needs a bit of luck for tomorrow when we play in church in the morning and in a massed concert in the evening. I think this is pretty well IT for the season. We were supposed to play at the end of May, but I have two normally dedicated ringers going on vacation, another having surgery mid-May, one moving to Toronto, and another who informed me that she has to attend church conference that weekend in Montreal. Even the ensemble can't play because one is one of the travellers, one is the person having surgery and one isn't playing with us regularly, but will be away because her daughter is being married in south Africa in May. I give up unless I can find someone who might like to play a duet with me.

This afternoon, we stopped by a wine-making shop and started a batch of red wine. Also bought (for $2 donation to Food cupboard) a 5 gallon wine concentrate bucket to put the extra alfalfa pellets in. I've got a 3 gallon pail with alfalfa tea brewing for my hostas and I also spread alfalfa pellets all over the garden. I think I have a lifetime supply. We also applied the corn gluten to the lawn.

After starting the wine, we went out to Lee Valley tools and bought a few items - crystals to hold water in my hanging baskets, a nozzle attachment for my laundry tub so it doesn't splash all over the place and three peony rings. The ones shown on the web site are the ones, I think, but the price is different and I don't understand why.

http://www.leevalley.com/garden/page.aspx?c=1&p=44799&cat=2,43319,33282

I got the ones "A". Best peony rings I've ever seen. So sturdy I'll put them in my will. But, expensive. Cost $39.xx Canadian for 1 or $35 each if you buy 3 or more. I've been buying a few each year and now have 8 which will be enough for awhile I think. I had quit using peony rings because the others were so flimsy and never the right height.

After the stop at Lee Valley, we came back to yet another store from the ones I went to yesterday and bought a microwave oven. They are the same price everywhere, but this store had them in stock. All the others wouldn't have them until June. We didn't get a build in kit - are going to see if we can modify the one we had for the old microwave. The height and width are the same as my old microwave, but the feet are in different places. It's also a couple of inches deeper than the old one. But if we can rig up something to hold it in place securely, the white plastic trim bits that go around the microwave fit perfectly. And if it works, we can save $150 plus taxes. (that's almost as much as the microwave was).

Well, better get the viola out. I'll be at the bell concert to direct my group but then I have to take off to an orchestra rehearsal which starts at the same time.

Ann

I walked over the office from the loaned trailer where I'm staying during the house rehab. I love the CBS Morning Show with Charles Osgood and have no cable or satellite in the trailer.
While here, I noticed how dirty the office was so I have been cleaning since 9:30. We used to have a regular cleaning crew, but due to a budget cut, now we are all supposed to share the cleaning chores, which means very little gets done.
darius, did your sister buy another house after selling the one a year or two ago? So, am I right in assuming that Bruce is helping fixing this one up to sell?
I have to go back to my house Monday. It seems the contractor can't figure out all the water lines my husband has run underground to the 2 waterfalls, lol.
