LOL Ann - you are SUCH a Hoya Harlot! =0)
Everyone - - your hoyas are fantastic!!! That Pimpette sure knows how to keep us hooked. And, uh, Marcy....close your eyes & don't read this next sentence............................ ................................................. I, too, have an order coming from La Pimpette!!!
MsK you are too funny!!
Lol.... I received my order from Carol yesterday as well....and what a wonderful bunch! I haven't had time to get pics yet, but i got H. erythrina, H. bella variegated, H. onychoides, H. naumanii, H. callistophylla, H. thomsonii, and a cute little collection of dischidia oianthe. Just love 'em all!!
MsKitty....I got a calycina from her on my last order, same thing....a beautiful huge plant! I was so amazed! And it's growing like mad now that it's outside. Crossing my fingers for blooms. Congrats on your arrivals!
:) Kim
Ladies! don't you see what is happening? The pimpette has us all hooked and THEN when she starts slowing down on selling hoyas, what are we going to do? I'll tell you what we're going to do, we'll start robbing the plant section at Home Depot, Lowe's, anyplace that has hoyas. We'll be so desperate that even a carnosa will do. We MUST band together to stop this addiction, we need a HA (hoya Anonymous) club, anyone......anyone!
Blessings,
Awanda aka I'm not just a member, I am the President of the HA!!
I'll bring the coffee and dounuts to the first meeting.
Heather
I finally got cought by my DH...some boxes of african violets arrived when he was home, darn it!...
I had to promise I wouldn't order any more plants...ebay is verboten..
No more computer ordering, etc.
I neglected to tell him I have the order from Carol coming, and some ebay seeds...
Oh, well, too late...lol...
He usually isn't home when things arrive, or else I'm able to intercept the mail and stick the box/boxes in the back room till it's safe to unpack, and he doesn't notice my jungle is slowly (fastly?) growing larger..
That's not being untruthful, right? Just sensible...
My name is Sharon, and I am a plant addict...
Hi, my name is Karen and I'm a hoya addict.
So, step one has something to so with admitting that we are powerless over our addiction....hahahahahahahahhaha...now there's an understatement!! And yes, Awanda, I, for one, will follow you as our leader in HA!!!
Karen
All Hail Awanda, All Hail Awanda ... So, when we make it a day without buying a hoya plant from the pimpette/HD/ebay/logees/etc., do we get a chip (but will it be a coconut fiber chip)? Or, do we get a hoya cutting? Or, can it be a rooted plant? Should we just pool our money (that we would use to buy coffee and donuts) and buy one large plant a week from pimpette, the cuttings of which can be handed out weekly to those addicts who make it a week? Are we simply redirecting the addiction from ourselves to a group version? Are we simply replacing one addiction with another?
I am not an addict, I can quit at any time. No, really. I swear I can. Believe me.
Ann
Y'all are making want to go hoya shopping.....
Me too!! I haven't had to hide a box from the family in AGES. Ha Ha. ...yes...I do that too. (saves having to explain anything dealing with this addiction. RIGHT?)
Marcy
Okay, I'm being good...
I will NOT order anymore stuff over the internet... (I think)
But since DH went out of town, I had to have one last fix,
Soooo I hit a couple of nurseries and got a nice big obovata (I only have one other one) and an itty bitty baby carnosa...a plain old green one.
(Would you believe that's one I DIDN'T have??)
:0)
Now I'm set till Pimpette's order comes...
Sharon,
trying hard to fight the addiction, but not succeding very well
Step 1 - I am powerless over my additiction.
Step 2 - My addiction has caused all or a portion of my life to become unmanagable.NOT! LOL!
Step 3 - Can't get past Step 2.....so give up and buy more plants......
Susan
Ann's 12-Step H.A. Program:
1. Buy first hoya plant (a carnosa from big-box superstore, most likely)
2. Think that plant is cool, go to local tropical plant store, find out many other kinds of hoyas, buy a few more that look different from each other (small ones)
3. Realize little plants aren't going to bloom anytime soon, get on e-bay & find a huge common hoya with blooms (engage in first "happy dance")
4. Realize one big common hoya isn't good enough, begin web search for sellers
5. Make first, hesitant, purchase. Have a much better experience than the plant stores in town.
6. Make many more on-line purchases & realize window room is in short supply - begin contemplating grow-lights
7. Find out there is a forum for fellow "enthusiasts" (lunatics) - purchase years subscription
8. Even though there is very little room left in windows, continue on-line and box-store hunts & buying-sprees because there is always room for "just one more"
9. Talk about problem with others on forum (squeeling with delight when each person gloats over his/her new find and/or blooms), realize self-loathing is for stupid people & that it is actually very healthy to hide the FedEx boxes in the garage, and that it is OK to lie and say "oh, no. I've had that one for years - it's just been in the other room (because, really, you do have some that you have had for years - they are just too big to move - but "they" don't know that...)
10. Admit you actually have absolutely no problem - besides, you can always unload the common ones you started out with on unsuspecting friends and relatives (thereby encouraging the addictive characteristics hidden deep within the dark souls of loved ones)
11. Laugh maniacally (try to not scare cats, dogs, children, or neighbors)
12. Spend hours grooming and piddling around with hoyas, enjoying the growth spurts, blooms, and smell of freshly misted greenery - repeat as needed
13. Hide your grooming and peduncle searching obsessions in front of family members and friends by saying you are searching for bugs, noticing the area hasn't been dusted in 'just years'../after all, it IS hard to find good help....
14. Snear at the fact that there are chlorophorm producing pets growing on every square inch of flat surfaces as you serve meals on TV trays so as not to disturb the hoyas.
15. Then...to throw them off the scent...you start a collection of ...say...giant Mexican Agave in the living room so that no one an sit down. They now think hoyas are fabulous.
16. ....?
LOL ~~~~~~~ FOTFLMBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
16. Log on to said subscribed garden website and read the signs/steps of becoming a "Hoya Addict", recognizing yourself in every single step.
17. Plot abduction of favorite hoya grower and her hoyas to prevent her retirement.
Repeat step 11.

18. Petition to have Arizona removed as a state.
19. Ponder the growing methods of all your successful hoya growing forum friends and try to copy them. Consider putting fake snow scenes of Swedish landscapes in the windows for the hoyas to see.
Marcy
At last, I see I was/am too late in starting a HA organization. All of you appear so far gone there simply is no hope for you. Ann & Sharon I think you need to be committed immediately, Christine you are on the verge of needing committment. Betsy & Karen, well part of your problem is the envy of my awesome Arizona weather...ie "petition to have Arizona removed as state". Susan and Marcy there is still hope for you.....stay away from the hoya light of the pimpette. Heather, well I think she just wants donuts.Tami and Rose " seem" to be the only stable ones here, and myself of course. Now I must get ready for my trip to Tucson to go plant shopping....as I said I can quit at anytime, BUT I'm not shopping for hoyas.....big difference. As for the PIMPETTE, she's just trying to "fit in", to pretend she's addicted too, but that's how pimpette's suck us in, pretending to be like us. If we all band together we can beat this addiction! Be strong ladies!
Blessings,
Awanda aka the Hoya Master Jedi
Stable, I have been called many things.... But never stable... THanks for the compliment Awanda... LOL the funny thing is I really do have a psychotherapist....... Repeat step 11
Repeat step 11
Repeat step 11
Beware, the Hoya Master Jedi might just want them all for herself (repeat step 11) - lol
Crazily yours,
Ann
(p.s. just was at the HD and I think I found a lacunosa - heeee heeeee I am to lucky for myself to lucky for myself so lucky, yeah)
Oops, forgot to put there names.
H. heuschkeliana, H. vitellina. H. coriacea, H. sulawesi, H. cv. christine, H. sp. IML 1420
I love them all.
Oh, Tami, those are georgeous!!!! The IML 1420 even has big buds - you are so lucky!
Enjoy.
Ann
20. Let Hoyas take over one bathroom ----leave others to get in your DH's face as they grow....in his food , newspaper , cup of coffee !!!! Oh , DH is buying one Hoya head a new greenhouse so he can have his house back................TAMI ??????????????
It was all in the long term plan. Repeat # 11 as he swats long stems off of hes face, thinking it is a spider. Move plants into tub area, and draw water in the tub for humidity. Repeat # 11. Still curtain from the toilet room to block direct sun from hitting the plants, make DH potty in the dark because the neighbors can see right through the window. Repeat #11. Repeat #8. Order greenhouse books and leave them on the dinning table, coffee table. Make him think it is he's idea to get a greenhouse. Repeat # 11 to yourself... Works everytime........ Repeat # 11
Tami - what great thinking - make him think it's HIS idea - great plan - must adapt to my DH!!! LOL
