Coffee and for Thursday, April 27, 2006

Continued from http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/595539/

Oh Meezers ... you disappointed me LOL. I ran over here to see what you added to our new thread today! Hmmm, sort of boreing, don't you think? LOL LOL :) You're a keeper anyway!

Yipee I'm on second!!! Good Morning all :). Well, I'm going to go read up on yesterday and make some coffee. Lauri

Himrod, NY(Zone 6a)

Morning all, have been missing in action since Sat. We had a 4 day missions conference at our church and had meals every day some twice a day. Last night was the end and even though it was a wonderful time I think we all breathed a sigh of relief.

Have not read the past threads so I hope everyone is OK, will catch up but now I have 2 days till my shop opens and this afternoon the only day to finish getting ready, but it is looking pretty good. Will take a picture Sat. morning and get it posted.

We have gotten our first lawn mowing behind us and are starting to get shaggy again. Plants are popping up everywhere. It is so good to get outside and 'play.'

Well, now to decide do I work backwords or find the last post I missed and worth towards today ??? First I better get DS lunch packed!!

Enjoy today,

Joy

Good Morning - got up like the house was on fire, put he dishes to soak, threw in a load of laundry, made the beds, popped an english muffin in the toaster and I'm here!!

Thank goodness it didn't get near as cold here last night -in the low 40's - high in the 60's. I'm meeting the 'girls' for coffee this morning. I really want to skip it and work around the gardens, but two of my favorite greenhouses are on the way to the coffee shop, so guess what??? LOL I tossed and turned in bed last night, mad at myself or buying so many plants - I have NO sense when it comes to plants.. I buy and buy and buy.

Mc C - good thinking- I'll call the insurance people today - why didn't I think of that!!

Vi -did your legs shake while giving the speech? I could get up in front of any class of kids and talk all day, but put me in front of adults and I'd sooner go thru labor again...

Molly-orchid house sounds delightful - just think about all you've gotten done in such a short amount of time! Have you been painting much lately?

Well, kitty is at the door meowing at me...the boss speaks

Ann was right, the link I posted last night took us right back to Wednesday, so if you had any unfinished business, you could get it done. I went back and fixed it, and in the process lost a long blather I was doing for today. Thought I checked the link last night, but I guess I was getting too sleepy to do it right. Ah well, you get what you pay for. LOL

Mags, don't think about leaving us, just drop in when you can and there will come days when you have a few minutes to say hello. You know how expensive divorce can be, the emotional wear and tear, the loss of friends, the feeling of isolation.... ! Look how happy we are to see our Founding Mother, uhhhhh, whatsername, ...hmmmm, oh yeah, JULIE, when she stops by. We won't forget you....unless Bonnie's CRS is contagious.

Sarv, I won't change a tire either, and I know how. I can also change my oil if necessary, but since my arms haven't fallen off, that won't happen either. You've already had some good advice, so I won't offer any, except to say the worst probably won't happen, you'll just have a pleasant trip.

Aaaack, Ginny, haven't gotten a tick stuck on me since my teens. Ugly nasty little bloodsuckers. I'm just finding those asian beetles in the house, either waking up from their winter snooze or coming in because we are in and out so much these days. They weren't as bad last fall as usual, but you can't smoosh them because they stink and stain. I find them most often in the master bath and then they get to take a Jacuzzi, whoooosh, down the drain.

Elaine, you think a buck a bottle is expensive? Two years ago when I went to the Bahamas with my DIL, we splurged one night at one of the fancy restaurants, and when the waiter asked if we wanted water, we said yes, and ended up paying $5 for bottled water. Sure it was a big liter bottle, but had we known !!.....Booze would have been a better buy.

Good grief Bal, can you still bend over and get up again? Last weekend almost did me in! Looks like rain this weekend, so I'll have to get out there today and do some digging or we'll be falling behind.
You're really off to a good start. Brats sound good, too. We haven''t done our first grilling yet, I think we need a new grate for our ancient Weber, before I put anything edible on it. (Note to self: stop at HD today) DH loves brats, but I usually sneak on an Italian Sausage for myself.

Orchid house sounds great Molly. How about using both colors, two adjoining sides of each upright in one color, and two the other. (I'm really good at creating work for other people.) We are still getting estimates on replacing the slider, but are leaning more toward enclosing the upper part of the deck. With our winters, we need to make it a real room, to take advantage of the southern exposure. Which means getting a permit, like you. It would be a small space, but enough room for a couple of chairs and NO mosquitos, in the summer. And be an extra barrier to the cold in winter.

Darius, good link on the Arnica. I knew it was effective but that told me a lot more about it. By the way, I want you and Maria to come and cook for me. I can't tell you how much time I've wasted standing in front of the freezer or 'frig, wondering what to make for supper. Seems like everything I make we just had the week before! Last night we had frozen pizza, and it's a good thing I didn't make a big meal because DH had work group outing at the ballpark, and he wasn't hungry.

Sammi is still up to the usual mischief, Mary, although he has added several new antics to his repertoire.....now he can start up the printer on top of the rolltop, as well as change the tv channel. He thinks every phone call is for him and races for the phone, changes the outgoing message, the time, and etc, requiring me to drag out the manual in order to reset it. If it has a button, he will push it. He and Souky have reached detente, and have a couple of good play chases every day, but he still seeks out Mini, for baths and naps. Let's see if I can find a recent pic. He's as big as Souky now, and is still growing. He'll be 6 months May 12th. Mr. Bigfoot.

Yesterday he spotted the neighbor's dog out the front screen door, and spent a half hour racing from door to windows trying to keep track of it. I'm sure he thought if he could get out there, he could take him!!

Off to the shower, today's project is to finish touching up the color on the tropical birds my sister sent me from Guatamala many years ago. The colors have faded from the sun, so when I'm done, I'll post a pic.

Later,

Sheila

Good morning all,

Sarv - the room wasn't huge and they were mostly friends from the Food Cupboard ( except for the person from the Ottawa Food Bank to whom I had sent a blistering e-mail earlier - but I didn't know her and she left right after the formal meeting).

Welcome back Joy.

Hi to everyone else.

Time for breakfast, followed by aquafit, followed by haircut. Then to church to set up tables for my handbell choir in the Sanctuary with some of the other ringers. Custodian will normally do that for us but the Kiwanis Festival is using the church. Keep your fingers crossed for me that they have BOTH grand pianos on the platform rather than one of them down where my tables have to go. The only time I can get in there is during their lunch or after they quit. Since the practice is at 6 pm, I'd rather set them up earlier. One of the pieces for Sunday requires organ; so we need to practice in Sanctuary once. The portable keyboard which we've taken upstairs that last two weeks is a weak substitute.

TTYL.

Ann

Edited because my fingers don't know how to type in the morning.

I had to change a tire the other day - all dressed up for work, on my way to a customer, and no time to call AAA. I managed, though, and I have to admit it felt pretty good to get there and say I had done it myself. Little chick victory in a man's world. :)

Vi - Sounds like it went well. You go girl!

Molly - the orchid house looks really neat!

Had a lot of work to do for my job on the computer last night and this morning, so I haven't had a chance to do much more than scan through yesterday's posts. Hope everyone is fat, happy, and ornery.

Have a great day!

Good Morning All,

Everyone sounds good this morning. I slept til after 7, that is a luxury. The daylight shining in the window woke me and I hoped Jeremy had been up to make coffee. Nope, he's sleeping later too.

I was up at 4. Snowy jumped off the bed and landed on Baby and she whelped. So we were all three awake. I let them outside and it was raining. I get up after 7 and it's still raining. This is very good news.

Took a walk outside and all the plants look extremely happy.

Now today is a good day to get those drawings done and turned into the building department. I went to the Florida Building Code site to check out spacing requirements on posts and beams for an orchid house. Of course I couldn't find it, nor could I understand enough to be able to get through some of the code terminology. So I wrote to Darius and asked her to help.

The worst that could happen if I get it wrong is they will reject it before the permit is issued and make me add more beams or posts. I also decided I would do the back porch/entry the same way. Hopefully I can keep the cost under 2500, not have to double the price of the permit. Later if I want to upgrade the back entry to raise the floor or anything else, I will worry about it then.

One more coffee and I'm getting to work.

Grand morning to you all. It is chilly here, but the sun is shining. Looks to be a good day. This is grocery/errand day for me, so I am about ready to head out the door. Made a Dr. appointment yesterday, to get the back checked out, and what do you know, this morning the back is fine. Ain't that the way it goes. Still gonna go, cause I need a new perscription for allergy meds.

Will comment when I get back in around noon.

Morning everyone
Well, stayed up late and couldn't sleep in this morning, so got on up and have been outside with my plants. Am sitting here with another cuppa and catching up with all y'all. It's a bit chilly here today after the rain of yesterday ... only 66 so far.

Meezers, I've paid a lot more than $1 for water ... I was just surprised at this particular place. Most of the restaurants around here still serve water and don't make you buy it. :) I sort of felt like that was a way to gouge the folks trying to be healthy. Water is my DH's choice of drink ... whether at home or in a restaurant. That *one* little bottle wasn't enough for his meal, though ... but he wouldn't buy another! LOL Like you said ... it's sad when drinking something unhealthy or drinking is the better choice. :-)

ViAnn, good luck with the handbell practice. Glad you made it through your speech. Maybe it was better she left early?

Sarv, you sound like my DH! LOL By the time he leaves in the morning I feel like a wirl wind has just been through the house! Whew! I have to get up ... take it *easy* ... come awake in stages! LOL

Well, my new brug and hostas and my little scented geranium are all doing good since I repotted them. I can't decide where I'm going to put my hostas. I've been doing some reading and see they will get quite big so will have to decide soon. LOL Someone asked me the other day about my squirrel problem ... maybe McCool? Anyway, it's still ever present, but I'm keeping them under control with the cayenne pepper.

Hi to Stacey, Molly, Defoe,Joy and all the rest. Am waving for now. Guess I better get up from here.

Hi all, I'm still alive and kicking...or planting as the case may be....not getting much computer time. I tried to read quickly and make sure everyone's doing okay, maybe later tonight I ca go back and doublecheck.

Bought a carload of plants yesterday at Home Depot, salvias and some Iris to take to the farm with the hundreds of daylilies and the delphs and hollyhocks I started. I put in a pie cherry and three highbush blueberries at the farm, as well as 8 arbor vitae. I want to add another 8 (make another trip to Lowe's)which will make a hedge around my arena. I'll get a strawberry bed going there too.

Wish I could hang out, but wanted at least to say hello ~~~~~~~~~~~

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning. It's sunny and windy here today. I've got laundry to do, weeding and trimming, some geraniums to trim and repot, and whatever else comes along. So far my pelivs seems to be staying in it's proper position and my back is not as achey this morning as yesterday. Progress! I've been doing some exercises that will strengthen the muscles that hold the vertebra in place and trying not to do anything that twists.

Mags, there are lots of us who just check in a couple of times a week or even less, say hello, comment on a few things that are fresh in their minds and disappear for another week. No problem. There are so many of us here now that keeping up with everybody is next to impossible. Just come by when you can and don't worry about the times when you can't get here to post. Now that about 6 people have told you the same thing, do you believe it?

Joyous, I know what you mean about breathing a sigh of relief when the conference is over. They are inspiring and enjoyable, but if you happen to be on the organizing committee or involved with the food preparation, sometimes the final Amen is very welcome. Been there, done that quite a few times.

M5, I can just see Sammi worrying about how he was going to get to that dog! I've been wishing that the phone and recorder were hanging up where the kitty can't step on the buttons. Several days ago AP turned the recorder off. I wonder who called but I guess we might never know. When she walks across the computer keyboard all sorts of funny things pop up, things I never saw before, or the page scrolls up or down and I have to relocate whatever I was using. How do they get the idea that the whold world exists for their entertainment?

I haven't seen Oz in a few days, did I miss something? Probably. And where is Ernie? Spring is such a busy time in the garden. I'm glad to see that Robert did post in the last day or two.

Sunday evening we will be going to a community sing at the kid's church. It's one of those where several congregations meet together to just sing. No sermon. Since I am not going to a ride this weekend we can both go. I'm happy that our son and daughter-in-law have found a church they like. It's a young congregation, lots of families with small children, and a young pastor. Well, young to us anyhow, he is probably 35 at the most. They meet in a building that doubles as a gynmasium, so no organ, no pews, etc., since they have to be able to move everything when the building is used for youth group activities. They use a portable keyboard and some guitars, somebody plays drums, and the feeling is very informal. I do enjoy the formal churches too, love to hear a good choir and organ music.

Gotta go now, eat some cornmeal mush and get myself moving, more than just my fingers. Back later. ~~~

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Mary, Oz was in chat this morning. I think he's going on a diet. Said coffee and snacks here were too fattening.

Sorry Oz, I couldn't help it! You just made me chuckle so.

OH!!! Drat that sassy Souky! While I was hanging sheets this morning she pushed the screen open and waltzed outside to do some exploring. When I spotted her, she took off like a rocket and it took me an hour to track her down. Working up a nice sweat before I go to my golf luncheon...thanks a lot, you little stinker. Sorry, had to vent here, instead of going and beating her.

Now isn't Samson an artist or what? He thought he could make my

Hi All,

Seems like forever since I've been to coffee. Wish I could get here everyday and keep up with all! I did skim yesterday's coffee but have to admit, it was a very quick skimming. One thing I did read,,,,,,

SARV,
Put the scissors down and step away!!!! You're right,,,I was cringing,,,LOL

Been busy in the Salon, so that's a good thing. Been busy with co-ops,,,ours with the hostas and a couple of others. Gosh I Love co-ops,,,LOL So glad Dave brought them back. I wasn't a member when they were here before.

Been outside all the time in between customers looking for hostas. Have to admit to getting a little antsy and *probing* for some,,LOL Found some that way and didn't find some that way. I'm not getting too hyper yet, it's still early and I know some come later. I have my list printed out and mark the dates that I see each one.,,,,I know,,,Anal,,,but it's the way my mind works.

Went to see my NP on Tuesday for the trunks that I have been walking on. She ordered labs and a Doppler. Went and got poked and peed in a cup. Then went to Vascular to see when I could get the Doppler done. They couldn't get me in until 3:00 - 3:30p.m. Had customers coming at 4:15. Knew it wouldn't be doable so called Bill while he was home for lunch and got the phone numbers I needed, called the customers and cancelled,,,grrrr, I HATE when I have to do that!!!!! They all understood, but I still hate it.

Went down to the cafeteria and had a nice salad for lunch, went back out to my truck and had a couple of smokes. Went to the Vascular dept. around 1:40. They had told me earlier that if I was there around 2, maybe they could fit me in a bit early. So, sat and dozed off and on for almost an hour until they called my name. Sis the Doppler thing to see if I had any blood clots in my legs. Went back to my NP's office and talked to her. Don't have blood clots,,,good thing,,,,Liver & Kidney function were fine that day. Electrolytes were good. All other blood labs were good.

She told me I had blood in my urine and asked if my friend was in town,,,,Nope. She told me she was sending it to Urology for some more tests. I asked besides that, what could cause blood in the urine? She said Bladder Cancer and because you smoke, you are more susceptible to it. Also told me she wanted me to have another Sleep Study. I gained so much weight, that maybe my machine needed to be changed.

I came home and got on the internet to do some detective/homework. Found some other things that can cause blood in the urine. So, I'm sure it's one of them and if not, it may be a rough ride. So, now I wait to hear.

Have already had 2 cancer scares and I don't think much of it anymore. I'm glad they tell me the worst,,,that way anything short of that is all good.

So, I know what's not making my trunks swell,,,but still don't know what is.

Another gorgeous day here. I'm going to head out and look for some more hostas that may have popped up. Also see what else is coming. Tulips are starting to open on the East side of the house. Need to water one of the beds also.

Well, will try to bbl,

Kelly

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

M5,
Sorry but can't help it LOL. The little stinker. Aw, just wanted to play hide and seek.

Maria,
Guess Samson was bored? What an artist he is with metal sculpting. He's a little stinker too. I too wonder what he did with the glass. I guess you'll need to follow him around for a couple of days to see if the glass comes out at all.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Maria,

I have loved some Golden Retrievers and I love my Greyhound.

A couple stories: A friend had a goldie. He left the kitchen trash out in the open, no lid, with bones etc in there and he thought he could teach Sparky to stay out of the bin.

My X would leave his glasses on the coffee table when he fell asleep on the couch in front of the TV. My greyhound chewed the glasses 3 times (repaired in between), the x having too much Vodka take care of his things.

One thing I have learned about having pets: You can only teach them so much and still leave temptation in their way. Sometimes it's more humane to learn a few tricks yourself instead. I mean this in the nicest way. Snowy only chewed my glasses once and I convinced the other guy to put the bin under the kitchen sink.

Molly
:^))))

Maria
Kota said if Samson needs to run away from home she'll take him in! LOL LOL

~~ at everyone else. Am cleaning out the closet! If I don't check in after while ... y'all come lookin for me, okay?
... Elaine

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Elaine,
Don't get lost in that closet.,,,LOL Who lives closest to Elaine that they could go rescue her from the closet?

Molly,
What kind of vitamins do you take? I need some of that energy you seem to never run out of. Gosh, you're just busy all the time getting so much done in such a short amount of time. The Orchid House is a really great idea. Will be a wonderful space for you.

Stacy,
LOL,,,good for you! Didn't get your powersuit all dirty I hope?

Well, out to look at plants.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Back checking in! Went to coffee and stayed there for 2.5 hrs - laughing etc. I had a scone right from the oven - raspberry/cream cheese- do die for!! I stopped at McD on my way there and had a breakfast burrito...I was starved..

On the way home I stopped at two of my favorite garden centers - and would you believe = didn't buy a thing!! Senior citizens day is next Tues- I can wait LOL

Came home and sprayed a bit for dandelions - our lawn when to heck last summer- no rain, and the dandies took over. We;ve had a very dry spring, so they are growing like gang busters!!

GG -I've been a beautician in another life (I am sure of it!!) I just shortened the top a bit and love it!! Had lots of compliments on it- one gal said it reminded her of the 'pixie' cut of years gone by - what goes around comes around!! It grows and my gal won't know I did a thing to it (I hope!) LOL I probably drive people like you mad chopping like mad!!

Maria- I burst laughing at your pic!! My DH said - what's so funny - he even laughed!! Hope you don't need the glasses to see!! I never take mine off and when I do, I lose them if I don't put them where they belong. (on the nightstand) Often when I am pulling a sweater over my head and take off the glasses, I can't see/remember where I put them!!

Who ever is cleaning- knock it off- you're making me feel guilty. Oh I had an awful thing happen. I was looking for a recipe this morning and pulled out a zillion cookbooks, magazines etc. Left them all over the floor and bar area. Dishes in the sink were soaking, but not done (ya know in that gray cold water )and when I got home I found a pkg in the house. My new SIL had dropped off what I ordered from her decorating party. sheesh I bet she thinks I am a royal slob...Slider was left open (note to myself - lock it!!)

Well, time for a snack - I skipped lunch today.

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Hi folks,

Chiming in early (for me) for a change. I just had to share something with you ----- got tired of the squirrels hogging so much of the peanut butter suet, so last night I put cayenne pepper in with the regular ingredients. I asked DH to put some out while I finished dressing and doing my exercises. He called upstairs to inform me that they loved it ("Oh, waiter, bring some Tabasco over please!") Bet they'll be doing a Mexican hat dance around the lilac bush by the time I get home tonight. Baa, humbug!

Yeah,101, that was me that asked about your squirrel problem.

M5, thanks for the update on Sammi. I see that his personality hasn't changed along with his looks! Sorry about Souky leading you such a merry chase. I've had my share of those too, along with having to crawl on my stomach under the car to retrieve one of mine who wasn't interested in coming in for the night. We let them out during the day since we're on a dead-end street, but there have been coyotes in the area and kitties out after dark is a big no-no. Oh yes, and Mary, the answer to your question ["How do they get the idea that the whold world exists for their entertainment?"] has got to be ---- they're born with that idea pre-packaged in their little heads!

Oooh, Maria, I don't know how you'll manage it, but it seems that you'll need to teach Samson that he's supposed to earn money with his "artwork", not cost you a bundle! This is one thing that I can't blame on the cats. They don't mess with my glasses. I, however, have managed to leave them in stupid places --- like the end of the bed. I've just been lucky that I didn't kick them off during the night then step on them when I got out of bed.

GG, sorry to hear that the swelling in your legs is still just as bad as ever. Hope you can get some relief soon. Please keep us posted.

V-ann, don't you EVER get to take a rest? Hope all your activities keep you feeling young at heart.

Hi to Joyous, dmcd, ss, Molly, Bonnie, sarv, and Lauri. Enjoy the rest of the day everyone. I'll be back later if I can find the time.

Good Morning to all of you devoted DGers. WOW Coffee is still going strong. Sorry for dropping off the face of the earth but between computer crashes, work, daughter graduation coming up, sewing a few needed work outfits and normal life upheavings I haven't even been able to sit and read more then the important emails. Thought of you all often as various event occured but never could time a break near the internet.

My oldest child is graduating from high school on June 13th. She volunteered for spirit month and has kept our entire family on its feet with kidnappings to early morning breakfasts, dances, required meetings and events to help celebrate the last days of high school. Really has brought back alot of memories for both DH and myself. She has been accepted at UNLV here in Vegas and Winthop College in NC. This has allowed her an extra month to make her decision of where she wants to live. We are hoping she will chose to go to community college here in Las Vegas for the first year for her core classes and save some money and then move with us to SC and attend Winthop College for the remaining years. My oldest son has decided he is going to stay in Las Vegas for 6 months after we move and finish high school here and then move to attend a college back in the Carolinas. I am so happy about this. Not having the two of them close was having us thinking of redoing our moving time line. My daughter is also moving out on May 1st into her first apartment. In the excitement of having a new home and the realization that it wont have the normal noises she adopted a pure black 4 week kitty from the rescue home. His name is Todd and my two cats and two dogs are not happy about the invasion of this little black spot running through their domain but have been very attentive to his cries. He was the only kitten of the litter to make it and he is so skinny and small. We are hoping that by his first check up next week we can get a little more weight on him. Yesterday was his first day of wet food without formula since he has been here. Hopefully he will be able to handle it or its back to formula and food mixtures. The rescue tried to use a wet nurse cat to help wein him but it didn't take. He really needed some major one on one attention and he sure is getting that here.

Work is in a constant stage of change lately. Administrative changes are beginning to trickle down the pole now. Some good and some not so good but all seem to take alot of work to change over. I am looking forward to not working once we move.

My garden is alive. I have two small tomatoes on one of my patio plants and the rest are getting ready to start flowering. I lost my black magic elephant ear and one brug in a freak freeze but everything else is going strong. I did manage to get 45 asparagus roots planted in SC when I went home for spring break. Mowed all the cleared area on the property and have the farmers tan and burn to prove it. That project helped me decide that we will be purchasing a zero radius, 5ft wide mower when we get there. It took me 5 hours to mow the entire thing with the small riding lawn mower. Had a blast mowing a sipping on an ice tea in the 70 degree weather but I am sure the excitement will fade quickly once the heat and humidity hit and I have other chores to get done. I did take one afternoon back by the natural spring cleaning and clearing out dead trees and overgrowth. I will post a picture of the spring if I remember.

The weather here has been awesome for the past couple of weeks. Wish we could get a little rain but with only 4 inches a year average I dont see it happening.

Know that I miss you all, and I will try to at least check in to say hi more often. I hope that all of you that have been ill are well and rested now, and all injuries have healed completely. Family members that are testing your nerves find new hobbies and sunshine fills all your days. Those of you on journeys have safe trips and for Darius who I am assuming is on the mobile run by now I hope that you find your dream home with your sister and it has everything you are looking for.

Hi again everyone. Lunch time here, so of course I came to eat with you. Hope a toasted cheese is to your liking, if not I'll just eat it all myself.

Sarv, you tickle me. You didn't sleep well because you bought too many plants, and here you go scouting around to see what else you will buy on senior discount day! Hmmm, on the haircut, you pay the beautician, then do it yourself. Have you thought about skipping the first step? The scone with raspberry cream cheese sounds wonderful. Did you think of me when you were enjoying it? No, you were probably having too much fun giggling with your friends to think of my growling stomach.

The wind was so strong this morning that I didn't stay out long, but now it is down to a pleasant breeze. Last evening I wired the greenhouse vent closed for the night, it flaps open and shut when the wind blows from the north. Thankfully I remembered to open it again this morning so the plants don't roast. It's easy to remember to do that at the same time that I feed the horses and the dog, but I could get sidetracked easily. The furnace is directly under the exhaust vent, so if the temperature drops enough for the furnace to run, a lot of heat is lost. With the cost of propane going up along with the price of gas and diesel, I am not wanting to waste any heat. When the temp in the gh is warm enough for the automatic vent system to work is noisy so I don't spend much time out there on windy days. Maybe I need some music to give me something besides a flapping metal vent to listen to.

GG, I sure hope you can get answers to the leg swelling problem. Have you tried support hose? A former neighbor of ours had to wear them all the time but I don't remember what the cause of the swelling was.

I have the tv on to a news channel. Things are happening in 2's today. First 2 car chases, one in California and one in Texas, and now 2 cases of wild animals being where they aren't wanted, a bear in Calif near a school and a pair of "big wild cats" near Andrews AFB in Maryland. Kids got to go home early if they ride the bus, but if they walk they have to stay in the school until a parent picks them up. The hunting laws contribute to this, since hunting bears and large cats has been so restricted in the past few years and the populations of these animals have increased at the same time that the wild habitat is shrinking. The animals have gotten used to traffic and people so they are looking for new territory and food sources. We just hope that doesn't include pets and people on the menu.

Weeds and other things are waiting for my attention.

Whew, back for a bit of a break. My sister and I re-packed (and consolidated) 24 boxes of my dry and/or canned foods, plus 6 boxes of kitchen ware and utensils. So far we have about 4 boxes of duplicate appliances, cookwear and bakewear for the kid.

We are hoping the kid gets a job soon (first interview today) and moves out before this house starts being shown in mid to late May. Graduation is May 15 but classes don'r end for another 8-10 days.

Dumb kid didn't even tell her mother about ordering a cap & gown because of some uncertainty about 2 low grades and the possibility of not graduating.

Okay, back to re-packing...

Mary,
Yep, tried support socks. They help slightly but not very much. Music, yes, either a radio out there or a pair of headphones and a Walkman. I've heard that plants like music, so, maybe the radio would be a better option. Would Love to have a year round Greenhouse someday.

Darius,
LOL @ always referring to *the kid*. Wow, 4 boxes of duplicate. Good luck with the repacking. Hope everything is going well with you and your sister.

Hey! got the computeragain!!
First, Kelly, I am going to pray that you get only good news and get the medical problems solved!

darius-is the kid graduating from HS? My daughter did last yr, nephew this year, son next year....oh boy, it can be pretty exciting seeing whethere they're actually on their way.....

Casey-Hi again! I know the feeling about moving things around just as kids are (hopefully) headed out the door. I hope they all move close to the new place, it will make it so much easier. Sounds like you're having fun with it

Maria-I would not be happy with Samson's choice of sculpting materials, perhaps he should stick to woodcarving, on a stick, in the yard,.,.,having just had to go without glasses while waiting for mine to be fixed, I would find it stressful...oh and it's expensive, too. I guess it makes cake-snitching look good in comparison.

M5-Today must be pet mischief day...do they communicate among themselves or are they just having spring fever?

MaryE-Same for AmandaPanda, although it doesn't sound like she's causing as much trouble...then again what if she's logging onto websites you don't know about? LOL. I remember about 20 years ago waking up to voices. My very mischievous cat Linus stepped on the speakerphone button and then dialed somebody, who of course got to hear me yelling about what the heck was going on etc. etc....Never found out who it was, or what THEY thought was going on!

sarv-ooh I wish I had a raspberry cream cheese scone right now!

Elaine-Nice of Kota to offer Samson refuge! just dont' leave your glasses around!!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

It is a good thing that I have several pairs of glasses, tomorrow I welll be tested for new ones, that I think I need.

Just came in from working in the garden, it is quite warm out there, right now it is 70' , planted some bleeding hearts dug uop some ground cover that was killed last winter, due to lack of snow cover, What a job that was with roots going to 'china' also had to dig up an azelia nothing but brown leaves. Planted more digitalis but am not finished yet.. Still have to planr more poppies and rosemary, Can hardly wait to get some annuals, still to cold for them.

Waving hello to everyone!!!

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

I bought some Poppy seeds and planted them yesterday. In reading the package it said they will take a year to bloom. Looks like I won't be pulling weeds for a year. I won't know what the plant is if it doesn't have any blooms.

~~~~ waving to you all and hope those not feeling well get better soon.
I got to read every post this time but now realize it is time to make dinner already so I will try to pop in later. If I do not get a chance everyone have the best of evenings. Grilled chicken and caesar salad here- with a cold chardonnay! everyone is welcome to have some!!
Anne
Thanks Pati ... I was watching the original winey coffee mug thread! LOL I *have* to have one of those mugs! That will tip my number up over 60! :)
Anyway, I'm outta the closet! Whew, it was *really* bad in there. I shoved and pulled and huffed and puffed ... and then just put it all back. will let the family deal with it! hehehe And y'all thought I had done something constructive today, didn't ya! :)
Hi Karot! So good to see you back. Wow, all that moving and working and the DD graduating. Yep, you're staying real busy.
Maria, sounds like you've had a busy day in the garden. Oh and nice weather to boot! Don't stay mad at our Samson. See ... now you get new glasses! ;)
McCool ... maybe you need to be a bit heavier with the cayenne? I have to use it almost daily. It's hard to convince those little devils they don't *really* want to mess with me and my plants. LOL
Kelly, hope you get some answers real soon about your legs. I know this is beginning to get old. Just don't scare yourself by reading too much on the net. Saying prayers it will be something real simple. :)
Well, need to get back in the kitchen. Am cooking a veggie supper tonight with fresh squash, beans, corn on the cobb and sliced tomatoes with some cucumbers in balsalmic vinegar. If the DH wants meat, he can have left over baked ham! LOL
I thought you'd like to see how the "Trash to Treasure" (aka melted bucket from a day or two ago) turned out. I might move it later but for now it is in a somewhat sheltered location where a chrysanthumum had died of old age. We can't have bare spots now, can we?
Of course not, Mary, I do not like anything bare on a garden
Well, my NP's Medical Assistant called,,,ROFLOL,,,my test was negative I said for Bladder Cancer, she said no, for blood in the urine. I said yesterday, there was blood in the urine. She said she read Jill's notes and said that if a negative test came back they would refer me to Urology. So, she tries to get Urology on the phone,,,waited about 4 min. Urology lady gets on the phone. O.K. everyones there. Nope, gotta have CT scan person get on the phone. After 15 min. urology lady finally say's I think Cindy forgot about us. Can I call you back when I get CT on the phone? Fine with me.
Urology lady calls back. gotta have a CT scan, so we set up the appointment for that on a Mon., then I have to go see the Urologist on Wed.
Confused???? I certainly am,,,LOL Have No Clue as to why they need a CT scan to see if or why there's blood in my urine. Guess I'll find out on May 8 & 10.
Babs,,,,you out there?????? LOL
Well, thanks for the thoughts everyone. I certainly appreciate them. I'm not getting too hyper until I find out where the blood in my urine went between yesterday and today,,,roflmbo
Gotta have some supper and then out to water quick. I think my handy dandy head lamp will come in handy tonight. I know your supposed to water in the morning,,,I can't get up that early,,,so my plants know better than to expect water in the morning,,,ain't gonna happen,,,,,LOL
Jammies are on and I'm comfy in my chair with my laptop!! I had to set the sprinkler - it is so terribly dry here. Gave only half the gardens a small drink. Things are popping up beautifully! Can't wait to get the annuals planted. I ring my beds with different things - I should post a pic sometime - they are beautiful.
Youngest DS came over- seems the camper trailer they bought for my folks has a major flaw in the design - water collects and rots the wood in the flop down bed. Yup - theres was full of water (styrofoam was saturated) He took out the rotten wood/styrofoam and now has fans on it drying it out. I feel so bad for him. He has the darndest luck!
DIL came over later on and I had to scramble to find enough food for all of us. It worked out - thank goodness.
Carat - glad to see you stopping in - you sure have lot on your plate right now!! Good luck!
Darius - fingers crossed that the 'kid' does graduate. Having an open house for her? Or don't people do that in Fla. Up in Mich when you graduate, you throw a big shindig and invite every Tom, Dick , and Harry. My oldest didn't want an open house, but we had one anyhow - youngest wanted one. I hate doing it - way too much work!! And you never know how many people are going to show up, so you prepare for feeding half the world! We might as well have given him the $$ we spent throwing the party. Oh well - it's a done thing...
Gotta go watch 'My Name is Earl' - it is so stupid that it's funny
Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)
darius, have you gone to your storage bins in NC and cleared them out while all this repacking is going on? Storing everything near your sister's house?
Has the niece decided on what college she is going to attend? I don't think I understand what's happening except I did read that you were looking for property in SE TN.
I hope you and your sister have a truce.
John and I are living in hell. Well, an older, large single-wide house while mine is being rehabbed. Every day it is an adventure to see what will tear up next. The hot water, the furnace, the cookstove have all had problems. The refrigerator is building up big hunks of ice UNDER the freezer (exposed coils there).
I am next door in the office using the company computer. I have a telephone line to the trailer. I can call out but calls don't come in.
I went to see my house and it is shocking to see such disarray while the work is being done. I had only 2 days notice to move out except for major furniture. I run up there to water the plants in the greenhouse and all the construction workers look at me as though their worst nightmare just arrived.
The roof is finished and the windows were going in. Inside, there are holes everywhere as they replace the wiring, add switches and outlets and 3 overhead light fixtures.
Two walls in each room had cheap paneling that wasn't even nailed to the studs in places. These and the ceilings are all being replaced by drywall. I have picked out paint, but it's boring. The rooms are dark because of so many trees, so I found a nice soft white for most of them. I can always change it later if I find something I like better. My bedroom is going to have 2 walls in a rich golden yellow, though. What do you think? The other 2 walls in each room are covered with the old-time real knotty pine paneling which I talked them into leaving.
Gotta go. I hope to take some pix in the next day or two.....
Now I am sun burnt on the tops of my shoulders and the top of my nose and golly I look sooo pretty...LOL...Well going to get something to eat since I have'nt ate today and then read all of todays posts. ~~~~~waves to all....Lauri
