Coffee and for Monday, April 24, 2006
Morning...foggy here this morn, but sun is supposed to shine later in the day.
I'm thinking about calling work out partner and begging a day off. My fingers on my right had are so swollen I can hardly bend them - I get this every spring and it doesn't go away until Christmas - I keep thinking it is garden related...Dr gave me some stuff but it tore my stomach to pieces- not worth it!! Oh well, body is slowly falling apart..
M5- I didnt see anything naughty that you wrote...did you ever find out what it was? Ok, what is the rib recipe? My kids always tell me my sauce needs a little zap...I don't have a good taster - everything tastes good to me!!
earth - pull up a chair and tell us all about yourself/family etc. Maria is the resident baker for now and she'll pass the goodies around - unless Samson has sampled everything! As far as the pandemic stuff, my mom is the mother of all worriers and she takes it all to heart. Poor dear..I am a news freak and I watch it all, but agree that the news people play up the 'worse'
Well, cat just came roaring up to the house like she was being chased by a dog- she is so funny. Now she is pawing at the sliders meowing 'let me in!"
Maria, that stinker Samson - at least he has good taste!! Did you laugh at him or scold him? Our first cat would eat anything and the minute we put a plate down, he was over to eat. The current cat comes over and takes a sniff and never a lick. Such different cats!! We always made scrambled eggs/cheese for the first cat on Sunday - he was spoiled!!
GG- your hosta co-op is going great guns. I keep checking it, but since my shade beds are slowly disappearing (trees dying) I can't invest in any others for a bit. I also have several that have gotten so big, that I need to divide them or move others. Always something isn't it!
Morning all I am awake after 4 hours sleep so I am here. LOL like I'd be anywhere else at 3:40 in the morning...
Darius the property and bungalows sound heavenly, I hope that it works out for you and you find a pop up soon..but ohhh the 100 year old farmhouse too.
Stacy, Love the color of your shed and LOL @ *he decided*, I love it when they *decide*
Viola Love the little red car, and your plates. Hope you are feeling better.
Maria, I am having just a bite of the cake due to the dryer shrinking all my clothes.....again. LOL at Samson having a bite of cake too.
Defoe, ticks, ugh one of a few critters that give me the willys!!
sarv, sorry you had bad food at the shower but the pot sounds too cute. And I'm with you yellow watermelons just don't taste right, just give me red seedless. Hope your back is better this a.m.
McCool ,your dinner sounded yummy. I need another raised bed for the extra vegis I have started....
Kelly, 97 Hostas soming up??? Gads how many do you have??
Welcome Kris pull up a chair and grab a cuppa. I'm making fork cookies and they will be out shortly....
~~~ to anyone and every one I missed I'm trying to get better at remembering everything everyone says and respond. I'll let you all know later about the stuff that my old neighbor pulled yesterday in regards to Salsa later, I must make more coffee.....Lauri
Hi everyone! Still dark and raw here, 30's....I'm due at the farm in an hour to meet foundation contractors, and have another appt. there at 5 pm. long day, if the sun doesn't come out.
Hi Lauri! I hope you'll post a Salsa-on-the-mend picture one of these days!
Maria-Had to laugh about Samson sneaking a piece! He probably wonders why his dinner isn't on a fancy glass cake plate!
Ann and dcat-Hope you both get better quick...
m5-Yes, I was looking for something naughty or controversial, maybe it is the HS comment....So I guess the pandemic is controversial. Maybe it's okay to talk about preparations though.
I keep water, food, batteries, first aid supplies, etc on hand out of habit since I grew up in the mountains and there would often be power outages or blizzards. So I don't think that keeping a stocked pantry is a bad idea-there are hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes = everybody has something, and being able to stay comfortable and take care of yourself is not a bad idea
59 degrees this morning and a little on the damp/foggy side. The gardens seem to like this.
I've been out for my coffee walk and found a couple new blooms. Darius has a pale yellow daylily starting to open. Should be finished in an hour or so. And she said she didn't do daylilies.
Today's task will be to get some of the mulch pile moved up to a more reasonable spot. All this done with the garden cart and wheel barrow. Should be interesting but best to do it this morning while it's still cool.
I need to get the plans for my porches into the building department so I can get the permit and move along on these projects. It's heating up now and getting the front of the house shaded will help some on the heat.
Here's my mulch. Remember this was 2 truckloads. It's drying up quite nicely I'd say.
Molly
:^)))
If I eat Shiela's ribs, can I have some of McCool's fresh asparagus to go with them? And a nice peice of cantelope for desert... so much for my diet.
Sampson sounds like a sweety. I used to have a big fat tom cat, Lucky. He was about 18 lbs and would sit under my chair and the dinner table and whine whenever we had chicken. His "spot" was on the top of the tv with a paw dangling down in front of the screen. We can't have kitties anymore since my daughter developed an alergy.
Kelly - when you're here in June maybe you can go on a hosta id stroll with me. The prev owner planted them, and I'm not sure what kinds they are.
dmc - We keep a stash for just-in-case, too. We have a shelf in the basement with flashlights, batteries, blankets, non-perishables, etc. Better safe than sorry. We had a big storm here about 5 years ago that pretty much shut down the town for a week without power or water. Our neighbors were coming over to dip in the pool to get clean, and taking buckets of pond water for toilet flushing. We have a couple of generators, so we were able to keep the freezer cold and have enough power to run the basics.
It's still a tad early for mosquitos here, thankfully, but they'll be out in droves soon.
I didn't get as much done yesterday as I wanted to. The kid that was supposed to come build the bench had to dash out of town for a couple of days. His sister in law had a baby, and they went to help. My bench can wait. I went to an auction to see if they had primitive garden stuff to decorate the front of the shed, but they didn't, so I left. I stopped by Village Green, the pricey garden center, to see what they have out. I managed to leave with just a toad lily. It was expensive at 11.99, but it's Dark Beauty, which I have haven't seen elsewhere. I got the toad lily planted and mulched it in well with pine straw just in case, pulled more garlic mustard, went for a walk in the woods, dug up a bucket of invading daylilies, put down two bags of mulch, and had an ice tea on the deck while I stared at the yard planning this year's changes. Somehow all that killed the day, and the laundry is still piled in front of the washer.
Stacy
Good morning every one
Just got up, very unusual for me to sleep that late, Samson wa s acting up last nighy so he had to spend it in his grate, perhaps I should do that more often, can't wake me up from there. Yes, he got a scolding from me after he snitched that cake
There is plent more cake for you , so have all you want
No you did not say anything bad, M5, just a bit of a political statement that is a no no here on DG
We had a good rain yesterday and will have some today too. Just as well will not doing any gardening, too much for my back and it knows it.
Guess you did spoil your cat, Sarv, imagine cooking eggs for her
Molly, that is a lot of mulch, some one will stop by and ask how much ??
No Maria, they shouldn't. The power company has the contractor out trimming trees away from the power lines. They tell me they only do this once every 4 years. So I better sweet talk those guys as much as I can this year.
I wonder how long it will take them to trim the entire county? County is pretty big, maybe 45 miles wide.
Molly
:^)))
Morning All,
Woke up WAY too early this morning,,,,I need a nap already,,eyes don't want to stay open.
sarv,
Dr. say what is making your fingers swell? How irritating. My knees bothered me all day yesterday. The up and down killed them. Have to find something to help me get up and down easier,,,it's really not the down,,,just the up part. Yes, the co-op is going very well. I'm hoping people start choosing some of the plants that I mentioned in one post. They are really nice hostas. I hear you with the tree's. Where I have my hosta beds, there are 2 huge Maples. I get really scared every time we get a storm,,,keep thinking they'll come down. Yes it always is something,,,grrrr
laurie,
Can't wait to hear the Salsa story. I have approx. 280 hostas. I have my list printed out and I go out everday to see what is popping up. I write the date next to the plant name so I know when they come up.
dmc,
Hi,,,sounds like you are well prepared. I keep thinking I should be, but then I don't do it.
Molly,
Now That's a lot of mulch,,,LOL It'll be well worth it though. Porches will be great. I love a nice porch.
Stacy,
I'll bring my books and we'll Try to figure some out. I'm not verygood at IDing, but we sure can give it a shot.
Maria,
Sorry but I just had to LOL @ naughty Samson,,,,that would have been funny to see
Well, all, I think I'm going tolay down for a bit before we al go shopping,
Kelly
Good morning,
Dropping in for awhile before heading out to hear student play in the Kiwanis Festival this morning.
Kris - welcome. Grab yourself a cup and speak out more often.
McCool - the cold is better today, but still with me. I tried the Vicks on the sole of the feet last night. Slept like a log. But then maybe it was the shot of Scotch, er cough medicine, before bed.
BTw, I've seen some Forsythia in the neighbourhood; so maybe there are varieties that grow well here now. Didn't used to be.
Bonnie - hope you find massage therapy helpful.
Sheila, apparently the couple that has opened this new food program has run a small operation in the west end of the city for a few years. They went to the head of the Ottawa Food Bank (large warehouse umbrella operation to which we belong) and asked what part of the east end was underserviced. The OFB director apparently mentioned one area that we serve. Dunno why. They are not the fasrthest away from us and in general are quite an affluent area. The clients in that area are only 10.6% of our overall clientele and their use of our program is even less than that. But more important to us and the potential quality of service that we can offer to all, that particular area provides at least 20% of the financial support that we get. So a spin-off program could have major long-term effects on the quality of our help to all of our clients. Anyway, the OFB board meets tomorrow to discuss it. We will see. I have major questions though as to how they got so far along as to rent space and open up without anyone - either the new program or the OFB consulting us. Somebody is really out of line.
Sarv - sorry about the swollen fingers. Hope you get some relief.
Hi to everyone else that I've not addressed individually. I might be back later. But maybe not today with the Kiwanis Festival, Dr. appointment, gotta practice some and orchestra rehearsal this evening.
Ann
Morning! Wow, Molly that is one grand pile of mulch!! Good job!! I try to get out early a.m.'s too, in the hot months here which are June and July. I'm not much for working in the heat. And, shading part of your house will help a lot.
I've been shoving furniture around this morning. Getting rid of my big chair and a half, as it gives me a back ache and leg cramps, even though it is big and squishy and I love it. Called my DIL to see if she and DS want it, she said "OHHHHH I love that chair, but where will I put it?" so she's thinking it over. If she doesn't take it, I'll stick it out when the subdiv. has the big rummage sale in May. Of course, Souky was upset because she liked to snooze on the back in the morning sunshine.
I'll post the bbq sauce recipe in the recipe forum, it will take up too much space here. It's one I tried in 1976 and has been a family favorite ever since the first time I used it.
Sunshine and 70's today and down to the forties tomorrow according to the weather guessers. If I can tear myself away from the computer I'll get those day lilies I started planted, and maybe the phlox. Trying the phlox under the poison tree, as the wild stuff grows there in spite of my efforts to eradicate it.
Hope everyone is feeling better today, or getting some relief from the cold/flu bugs, aching backs and assorted miseries. I was pretty lame yesterday after Saturday's long day in the yard, but I'm ok this morning.
Stopped at HD yesterday, and they had some beautiful forsythias for sale for only $15. Mine are on their third year and are about 6 inches high!! Told DH we need to get at least one. They are the first thing to show color in spring here, and I love the way they look.
So, I'm off to recipes, and then to the shower and the garden. Will check in later ~~~~ to everyone, have a great day. Spring has sprung! Let's hope it stays that way!
Sheila
Sarv, swollen fingers, that surely is no fun. Is it the hand you use most? Most ususally is. LOL at cooking for a cat. The eggs and cheese sound good, even for a human,.
lauriewilson, I can't wait to hear about neighbor and comments about Salsa. Hope you put him in his place.
Molly, your temps are just about like mine. It is sort or overcast, but supposed to be a pretty day. Be careful moving that mulch. Back and knees don't take kindly to over use.
sstateham, sorry there's a delay with the building of the bench. It wil eventually get done. You were super busy yesterday.
Maria, LOL about Samson tasting the cake. He just wants to make sure it is fit for human consumption.
GG. know what you mean about knees, My left one is making funny noises, when bending and stooping. Not hurting, just noisy.
Viann, let you know about your questions about the new food service. Sounds like somebody goofed, or overstepped the boundary. Hope you get back today, but is sounds like it is a busy one for you also.
Well, I was gonna sleep in this morning, as DH and fishing buddies had planned a big fishing day, but was awakened by the telephone, one fishing buddy trying to get DH to ask what they were taking for lunch. So, got up, and heard scuffling coming from the laundry room, and when I open the door, Mr. B, and Patches were romping. Patches, for those of you who may not remember is the female Jack Russell terrier that we babysat last year for a couple of months while her owner recovered from heart surgery. Her owner is one of the fishing crew, and brought her to visit me while he was gone. She has grown so much, and after the initial welcoming ritual, has settled down now, Mr.B to my right, and Patches to my left, taking a morning snooze.
Back is better this morning, but I think I will still try to go get that massage, and see if it will help. I have nothing planned, as I didn't know how the back would be this morning. So, I think I will not aggravate it, and see if we can coexist comfortably for many more years!
Better get moving, and check out the massage place. Will be back later.
Oh, man, I pushed a button and erased everything! LOL
Wishes come true- workout partner called and begged off this mornings h/p. She just hosted the shower yesterday and is exhausted. I'm am so happy!! Maybe I should visit the local garden center!!
GG - fat fingers are just arthritis kicking in - not at all lifethreatening, just major annoying. I do have meds for it, but I have to weigh the pros and cons of the upset stomach over the fat fingers.
Molly - that is the mother of all mulch piles~~ are you going to use it around your daylilies this year or let it cook. I'm envious of your warm weather- they are saying several days of 30 deg this week. Makes me want to sit on my duff and read...
Maria, I am a pansy around animals and young kids. I just cannot say no. My cat is on the arm of the chair as I am typing. DH hates it when she lays there and makes me put her down - but he's at work!! LOL = when the cat's away.....
Gonna sit here and surf for a bit...
I'll try to get thru this without spitting nails or having more steam come outa my ears!!!
Saturday the neighbor rode his lawnmower over to the fence seperating our fields and hollered at my DH, so Steve went over and they guy asked if Steve knew that I was spending his monies foolishly? Steve said *she is?* He replyed* He** yes she had that horse saved and he is not worth a plug nickle and is continusely(sp) spending more money on him*. I came in at this point and asked him why he thought that, and he said *Salsa was no longer any good with his fractured ankle and ringbone and should just be put down and that he did'nt need to have new shoes every 10 weeks and hay and pain medicine*.....I lost it I am ashamed to say....I asked him how his arthritis in his back was and he said oh so much more worse can't walk more than 20 feet at a time...I told him we needed to make an appointment with his doctor for him to be put down, he asked me why so I told him I thought he was no longer of any use and in pain so he too should be put down and he said that was cruel as he was a human and Salsa was only a horse. I then went on to tell him that how and what I did with MY animals and our money was no concern of his and he was to mind his own business from now on and not worry about what we did here. He is going to call animal control today and report me for animal abuse.... Well that is where we stand now...will let ya know if Animal Control comes out...Lauri
Good morning all....taking a break from the outside stuff. Have a couple of new cats and trying to make them stay in the back yard, Floozy girl is very good about staying there, but Little Tom jumps the fence as soon as my head is turned and I have to chase him down. He is now grounded in the house for the rest of the day.
Lauri, big pat on the back for what you told your nosy neighbor. Wonder why so many of them feel its their purpose to tell everyone else how to live.
While I was outside and checking the garden, (this is the first year I planted one), I cut a head of lettuce and plan on having it for lunch along with some of the hotest radishes I have had the pleasure of munching on. I also planted a bunch of other things that are coming up nicely, potatoes have flowers on them now, cucumbers are getting big, tomatoes are full of blooms, some even have small tomatos. I wonder if anyone has ever planted broccoli, mine is growing like Jack's beanstack..I dont know if this is normal, I thought they would be smaller..guess I should ask on the veggie gardening forum.
Dont want to take up a lot of space telling about myself, am married (for the second time) to the father of our children..we have 3, a daughter in Ohio, son and daughter share a house next door, along with Sammi, GGD. Nice to have them so close. Mother and 2 brothers/wives and rest of family are still in North Dakota, Mom will be 87 this summer, still going strong, driving, walking, church daily..I sure am proud of her being able to do so many things. She does some volunteer work once in a while, too.
If some have seen me on other forums, you know that I have a houseful of cats. They have come to me as strays. I think last count is 14. Most are getting quite old, over 10, but last fall I acquired 3 young ones, 2 were kittens, one a little older. So I start over again.
Sorry for going on and on.....and thanks for the great welcome here.
Kris
Wow, Lauri, some neighbor you have, so sorry to make your worries for Salsa even worse. I would think the Vet knows best and not some stupid talk from a neighbor.
Lauri, I'd have done the same thing as you did!
Sarv, half a good cantaloupe with a scoop of vanilla ice cream has always been one of my favorite treats. Haven't had one in a long time due to not finding any tasty 'lopes.
Maria, your baking skills amaze me (along with your other cooking skills)!
Hooray for Laurie!!! Nothing makes me madder than somebody tending my business.....that goes for family too. I think I would call my vet and let him know what's going on with this old grumpus calling Animal Control. The vet would make your best backup in case they want to investigate.
Pity you can't report the old f..t to somebody for stalking!
Pati
Edited to say steam coming out of my ears too just reading about it!
This message was edited Apr 24, 2006 11:49 AM
Hi Lauri ... am passing you the 2X4 graciously as I do believe I had it last. *smile* I'm all done for now and believe it could be better used in your neck of the woods. Actually, I think we have a 2X6 that would serve your purposes better perhaps? We could get Darius to drive the DG bus and we could all come use them on your neighbor. LOL that sounds like fun!!! Mon gang ... let's go!!!
Well, got to get back to the laundry monster. He is about to get the best of me today. Will check back in later. To Sarv, Ann and Defoe ... am sending healing thoughts your way. To the rest ... am waving. Oh ... Maria do tell Samson to be a *good boy* and not go tasting *everything* that looks good. He might bite off more than he can chew one day!! :)
Hugs and waves to all
~~~Elaine
Just back for a moment.
Lauri - good for you telling off that nasty neighbour.
Kris - don't apologize for going on. The cats will sure keep you busy.
Heading out to my appointment soon. Will stop by Lee Valley tools and get some stuff for the garden on the way home.
Also have a sewing project.
http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/butterick/shop.cgi?s.item.B4064=x&TI=10002&page=5
That's Butterick B4064 in case the link doesn't work. Think I'll make the version on the left with the short sleeves and straight hem on the skirt. I have a greyish blue fabric. Want it for the dinner in mid-may for the award for which I was nominated.
Gotta go.
Ann
Sarv, have you tried any of the topical lotions for the arthritis? I have used several and some are good, others, may as well use lotion. I don't like any with the strong medicinal smell, so try to sniff test them in the store. They may be good, but don't want to put any body's eyes out with my aroma. What a nice vacation, and now you won't be accused of being a slug.
lauriewilson, I agree, the old f--- needed to be put in his place. If I need help tending my business, I know some good counselors that I can pay to help sort it out. I would notify my vet, and if he calls animal control, I would refer them to the vet, and say that it was his recommendation for the treatment.
earthling, sounds like you have a good garden growing. Mine is just getting started. I have cabbage, onions, broccoli, peas, broccoflower, beets and a row of annual zinnias in the veggie garden. DH is the tender of the veggies, and I am the tender of the flowers. Welcome to our ecclectic group, most are animal lovers, be it feline or canine. You certainly have a herd? no thats cows, don't know what you call a group of cats. catlets maybe. Anyway, I always say, a person who likes animals is a good person.
Maria, and Pattischell, you are reacting just like me at lauriewilson's neighbor. I think we have some "hot heads" here right now!! LOL.
Darius, I have never tried cantaloupe with ice cream. Bet it would be good. A neighbor gave me some heirloom, french cantaloupe seeds, and am going to try them this summer. They are supposed to be smaller than our version, more orangy color, and sweeter than sweet. So will let you know. If anyone wants some seed, I can spare some for you to try also. Just lmk.
Since returning from running an errand, have been out, trimmed some errant branches off various shrubs, pulled some weeds, planted 3 dahlia tubers, 10 cannas and took 3 to DM's to plant on either side of her front porch. Took Mr B, and Patches along, as DM loved Patches when we were keeping her. They are marked so much alike she thought that it was Mr. B. Had to get them both together before she believed me. Guess she didn't pay any attention to the plumbing fixtures, as there is quite a difference!!
Massage place wasn't open, so have the phone number and will call to see about an appointment. Back is feeling much better, advil, and some topical arthritis stuff is keeping the pain under screaming level.
Will be back, as I have to have a bite of lunch, and then, gonna do some prep for supper.
VAnn, looks like a great dress! My mother was a dressmaker and between my sister and I, must have hundreds of patterns. I was surprized at the price of patterns since I haven't bought one in years. I had thought to sell many on ebay, esp. the Vogue patterns. Of course, mine are packed and in storage in NC.
101, and Viann, all posted at the same time. Do you think that we need to introduce earthling to our violent ways so soon? Dang that 2x4 gets used a lot!!
Viann, good luck on the Dr. appointment, take the antibiotic prescription, you may just need it after all.
Later folks.
Hi everybody.
Since I was gone this weekend, now I have 3 days of reading posts to catch up with your lives, that will take a while.
My ride went very well, I took Breezy and did the 50 miler. We finished 22nd out of 29 so we sure didn't set any records. It was a nice sunny day, windy but not cold, with a possibility of a thunderstorm that never came, so I just enjoyed the nice day, scenery and a nice riding companion. There was also a 75 mile ride with 4 entries and 3 finishers. In the past I have done the 75 mile ride at this event, but this year they had a new ride manager who made the course a lot harder than it had been, and since Breezy is getting older I decided to adopt the "wait and see" approach, and am very glad for that decision. He was tired enough after the 50, and we were done in plenty of time for the potluck dinner.
earthling, I'm glad you have joined the party here at the virtual kitchen table. 14 cats, that's a lot of kitty food and kitty litter. There are so many needing homes, and you certainly have done your part to help them. Brocolli plants can get about 2-2 1/2 ft tall and 1 1/2 ft wide. I hope you planted them with enough space between them!
Samson likes cake! Baaaaad doggie!
Molly, what a great mulch pile. After a few weeks you can start to use it if you don't pile it on too thick.
Sarv, I hope you get some relief for those swollen fingers soon.
Lauri, your neighbor will probably know better than to open his mouth again. And if he calls the SPCA just refer them to your vet. I hope he thinks about what you said.
It's time for me to get busy on the laundry, plant some things, mow the lawn, and, and, well, you get the picture. ~~~~ at everybody I missed. I'll be back later.
DCat, we cross-posted. Would you save a few of those French 'lope seeds for me? And, by all means, do try the canteloupe with ice cream!
Molly, LOVE the mulch pile!
Hi Mary, glad that you checked in. Now everybody be real quiet for 2 minutes, so that I can post, see no one else has, and get up from here!!
Darius, sure will, do you want me to mail them to you in Florida? Just let me know.
Bonnie, I'll dmail an address. Thanks!
You all have had a busy morning !! Me too, moved the big hassock that went with the chair and a half, and gave it a good cleaning, then put it in the bedroom under the window,moved the cedar chest out behind the new chair so Souky will stop complaining about losing her sunbathing spot, did a load and cut one leg off the laundry monster, stitched up a cover for the hassock so I can throw it in the laundry when it gets cat haired.....and still have yet to put my shoes on!! Gorgeous day here. Doors open and a light breeze coming through.
Good for you, Laurie!! If there's one thing that gets my goat, it's someone who has no interest inmy business, telling me what to do. (Even DH doesn't do that!) And then to try to get your husband's ear to influence him, too! If you hear loud noise coming from the north east, it's me, giving you a big hand for sticking up for Salsa!!
Darius, that melon sounded heavenly. Our season is too short to grow anything but the small size melons and they don't often get fully ripe before the seasons change on us again. Those patterns should fetch a good price on Ebay considering what the cost of them is now. Ann, that dress is elegant and simple, and should look great. I haven't made anything for several years that required more than straight seams.
Sarv, take your arthritis meds with food, all of them are hard on the stomach.
Mary, congrats on a pleasant ride, good weather sure helps a lot, doesn't it?
Still haven't figured out why that warning appeared on the earlier posting. I did a test with that HLS spelled out and previewed it, and nothing happened so that must not have been it. Then I deleted it. Can't see anything else in there that would have triggered a big red warning!.
~~~ to Elaine, Kooger, Dcat, Earthling, Molly, Maria, GG, Dmdc, and anyone I might have missed, etc. Shoes going on, wash going in the dryer, trudging out to the garden with lilies and phlox. BBL
Sheila
Meezer, I got a red warning one day on the pet forum, really coudn't figure it out until I realized I had misspelled Shih Tzu. Left out the h and attached theT to the first syllable! LOL
I understand certain words are automaticaly red flagged by the Adm.
Pati
LOL Pati!! Reminds me of when I was little and wrote my Grandma to thank her for making me a shift. We used to wear those a lot when I was a little girl and she'd stitch me up several in a wink. I had this particular favorite and Mom was *real* big on thank you's. The only problem was ... I left out the "f"! :)
Earthling ... meant to give you a big hello from way down south, so please consider it given!! :)
Hi Defoe, so glad your back is better ... but I *know* why it bothers you all the time! LOL Slow down!!!
Hi Mary~ Good to see you back. Sounds like you had a nice ride and your weather was a *lot* better this time. I still can't imagine being on a horse that long, though. I wouldn't be able to walk much less do any house work or work in my gardens.
Well, can't make a pass by my office without checking in. Be back after while! :)
... ~Elaine~
I forgot to add that Steve just walked off when I tore into the neighbor, he is a wise man and knows when to get me some sweet tea.....
The Animal Control came out with their trailer and brought 2 Sheriff Officers with them as they had the report as I was threatening the old geezer and was told they would not take my horse without a fight. He made it sound like I had never taken him to the vet or even fed him. So I brought all my vet receipts out to them and then had the vet on the phone in seconds and they talked to the vet and looked at Salsa and then the officers went and had a talk with the neighbor and Animal Control left...The funny thing was they were greated at the gate by my dog Gladys she weighs 25 lbs and is a tad fluffy :)
See Lauri, Good Guys in white hats always win! Just glad it worked out well.
wtg....maybe now he will MIND HIS OWN BUSINESS...LOL
Oh I really doubt that....he'll just find someone with less grit. Has probably run out of friends and family to harass.
Thank you, Darius, coming from you that is quite a compliment
Lauri, glad you fixed his hash, LOL
Me again. The lawn is mowed, I used our brand new mower, oh how nice! It is much quieter and it starts on the first pull. The grass catcher bag is smaller, so I have to stop and empty it 4 times to do the whole yard, but that is ok. And the yard looks so much better. Now I have 2 wheelbarrows full of clippings to use for mulch.
Washed some clothes, oops, haven't got them hung up yet. I also made a bread pudding that just came out of the oven, it smells so good I can hardly wait for it to cool enough to eat a bowlfull.
Kooger, I'm so sorry to hear that Kandyce is making such bad decisions. What gets into people to do such an irresponsible thing? I hope that your brainstorming session produces a workable plan to care for the baby while giving the girl time to come to her senses. I wonder if she does not feel bonded with the baby because of all the time when she was not able to take care of a baby when she had the tumor? or if she just decided she missed out on life being a mother at such a young age and is off to sow some wild oats. I emagine your DS is just devistated by this turn of events after all they have been through with her long disability.
Woodspirit, you will have an almost brand new house when they get all finished with the remodel. I'm glad you got the grant, some people just need a little help. Meanwhile, your life is disrupted but at least there is light at the end of the tunnel. Supergluing the teeth, oh that is great! Another use for superglue. Hmmm, maybe you should contact the company and offer to do a commercial for their product.
ViAnn, you sew too? You hadn't mentioned that before, or if you did I missed it. You're one busy lady with all the music, gardening, volunteering, etc. When will you have time to make your new outfit?
Yes, Elaine, the good weather at the ride did make a pleasant difference. So does having the horse be cooperative. Last year at this ride I was riding the mare I just sold, she dumped me about 5 miles into the ride and I spent over 3 hours trying to find her since she ran over the nearest hill and disappeared. The sale is final now, the new buyer has her and I hope they get along. The buyer says she likes a horse that is a challenge, well, that one certainly is challenging! Last year after that incident another rider who had come off his horse 2 years in a row said he was officially passing the torch to me. Well, I am gonna fix up an old light bulb taped to a stick with duct tape, an ugly on purpose "torch", and have it ready to present to him since I have sold the horse! Maybe it will become one of those awards that gets passed from person to person.
Lauri, I emagine the officers were pleasantly surprised to find a well cared for horse, a plump friendly dog and a person who was reasonable when they came to your house. I hope they made the complaining neighbor see how foolish his attitude and actions have been, wasting the time and resources of Animal control and 2 officers. Too bad they can't make him pay for the cost of their response to his folly. Or maybe they can.
I'd better get busy again, it's too nice a day to be sitting here typing and reading. Catch you later. ~~~
Meezer sounds like you had a very good full day. I don't ever put shoes on, until I have to get dressed to go someplace besides here. I wear flip flops, just to cushion the soles of my feet, but don't like my feet all "bundled" up. So you made the cats an "oasis" where they can sun to their hearts content. Very nice. I like the idea of a cover so it can be dehaired from time to time. I have found the best treatment for dog/cat hair removal from cloth furniture, is one of those sponges that have sort of a scrubee on one side. Dampen it and run it across the furniture, and it picks up everything. So once a week, I sponge all my furniture. LOL.
Pattischell, leaving out a letter in a word, and placed stratigically, can really change the meaning. As 101 can attest to.
101, did grandmother have a heart attack because of that thank you note? Well, it was the thought that counted, even if you did misspell it. That belongs on the reminiscing thread, shifts, remember them fondly. Sounds like you and M5, really got after the laundry monster today. I had some, but will wait until later in the week. Don't want to become a slave to routine--Monday-Laundry, Tuesday-Ironing, trying to change my ways!!
lauriewilson, those Animal Control officers didn't waste any time getting there. If it was here, they might make it next month!!. And to be greeted by a tubby dog, plenty of paperwork to show what treatment you had sought, and a healthy horse, just didn't have a leg to stand on. Would have loved to be a fly on the neighbor's wall, when they talked to him!! That is not the point, though, it is "meddling in somebody else's business". The Animal Control people sure are needed, as there are cases where they can intervene and save some poor animal's life. I always wonder, why keep an animal, if you are not going to take care of it properly?
Darius, got your d-mail, the seeds will be in the mail tomorrow. Now mind you the description came from my friend, and if they turn out to be anything other that what I described, I will give you her phone number and address, you can take it up with her directly. I am just the middlewoman in this!!
So Maria, what did you do in the garden today? I am sure that whatever it was Samson helped.
MaryE, sounds like your ride went well. I think the idea of the torch is great. Maybe put a candle on it also, so that if you are out in the wilderness, no electricity, the candle will do. Mark it civilization, and wilderness!! Glad that the horse has found someone who is up for a challange. Hope that it is a match made in heaven. Now the horse can act however, and the owner will feel the pride of staying seated!! I remember that ride, where all you got done was look for your horse. I know that must have been frustrating.
Well, the visiting dog really enjoyed her stay today. She was here for about 7 hours, and followed me step for step. She and Mr. B had a grand time getting reacquainted. Then they settled down, and she was so happy to be able to run free. She lives in town, and must always be on a leash. When the owner came back from fishing and was ready to go home, she wouldn't go to him, and he had to come pick her up, from by my feet and carry her to the truck. I don't think she really wanted to go. Don't blame her!! I am going to try to convince him to breed her to Mr. B. They are both really laid back dogs for Parson Jack Russell's, their markings are similar and would make some very cute pups.
Mr B.'s new family here, has decreased. Out of 6 puppies born, only three are left. And to top it off, I was going to post a picture of them, but Mamma Dog got tired of having her children on display, and has taken them to a barn, where they won't be disturbed. So when they eventually get old enough to venture out, I will be there with camera and will let you see them.
They are predicting rain for tomorrow, so will probably be confined to house tomorrow. That's okay as there are always things to do. Had a very good chat with McCool today, ~~ at ya!
I am going to check out some other forums, and will probably be back.
Hi all,
Just stopping in for awhile before bedtime.
Got to the Dr. appointment across town about 15 minutes early, only to be kept waiting an hour after appointment time. And all vital info taken by a nurse to spent all her time staring at the computer rather than conversing with me. She must have entered the info into the computer, but when I saw Dr., she didn't seem to know the answers I'd told the nurse. Physical was too short and cursory. Yeah, I've got a pile of routine tests to be done, but it seems that's about all they do. No time spent talking to the patient. Can you tell I'm pi***d off? I'll go get the blood work done some morning when I decide to start fasting early enough the night before. I'm hungry after spending the evening with Brahms Symphony #1. They tried to give me an argument when I told them WHERE I wanted to have bone density scan done. I don't think they are THAT difficult to get done unless things have changed a lot in the last couple of years.
I didn't manage to phone my order in to Lee Valley tools (they make FABULOUS, but expensive, peony rings) and have a lot of other gardening stuff too. I stopped by, but they were too busy; so I didn't wait around. Didn't want to be caught on the cross-town expressway after 3 pm. I'll phone in my order later and then it will be ready to pick up.
Darius, dress patterns are expensive if you pay full price, but I never do. There's always one brand or another on sale. The fabric shop has been having a birthday sale all month. When Butterick patterns were on special, they were $1.99 each. And yes, Mary, I sew. Or at least I used to. At one time I made most of my clothing. But I've gotten fatter and harder to fit and wear pants more often and also got busier. But it still galls me to pay the prices for poorly made clothing in a style and color that doesn't suit me. And since I'm one size on the bottom and another on top, separate pieces are a good answer. Of late, my sewing has mostly been limited to things for around the house and for my granddaughter. And I have to make some doll clothes.
Mary, glad your ride went well even if you didn't win anything.
Good night to all.
Ann
Defoe, did not do anything in the garden today, it was a rainy wet one but I met my neighbors dog for the first time he has been on the other side of her house inside of an IF. I never see this neighbor , I think she has lived there for the last 20 years or so but have only seen her twice, she is sort of a hermit, To go back to her dog, he is also a Golden and a very lovely calm one , he is 5 years old and is now allowed to leave his Fence. Samson has not met him, wonder how they will get along.
Well good night, it is getting late , I think I over did gardening the other day do not feel as well as I usually do.
