Episcia are so easy to grow and fun to progate and share :))
This Pink Panther
Lorry gave me a tiny baby in a solo cup little bit ago.
I pottd her up in a 2.50 inch pot and sat her in on shelf in the sun !
WOW did she grow fast !

I cut three good size baby stolones off. The grow on Episcia's the same way as on a Spider plant !

I wicked and made a name tag for each 2.50 pot. Any size is good depending on your baby size !

Each pot I fill over with soil-less mix

I cut each stem from each bay short so then the baby cah be placed in the middle of the pot right into the soil and pushed down gently until the leaves are flat touching the soil.

I like to water them threw good, or sit them in a tray of water until good and moist.
Mom plant I planted her into a 5 inch pan pot
I left three little babies on her until they grow some more.

I watered Mom just a pinch as she has lots of roots and was still moist.
The three baby Pink Panther's will root in 4-10 days and be growing into nice plants ready for me to share in a couple weeks !
As long as I keep taking the babies off Mom for awhile the pan pot will fill up with new plants from the same plant like a trailer. After it's full then I will let them babies grow down and it will fill with flowers.

Allison, do they need as much light as AVs?

Lilburn, GA

It is a lovely photo of mom and babies. Cute!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I think they can do with a little less but still like a lot of light. I grow all mine in nautral light ~
" April wanted me to show how easy it is !! Hope thie helps :)) "
Here is a pretty Pink Panther all grown up !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Kelly when I ever get caught up with shipping plants to people who paid shipping I can send you some Episcia
plants !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Anna though I don't have room I have read that most standard Gesneriads generally reqiure more light. one for example episcias growing for flower not just foliage it will be necessary place them right in the middle of your light stand center of shelf so they can get light from all sides. I do have flowers on mine , sure I could have more flowers if i had room. I do turn mine .
Gloxinias however need more light than African violets. Columneas look nice hanging over the edges of shelves but won't bloom this way unless you install vertical bank of lights facing the leaves so they can preform their important function of making food.
*** But two things for certain needed** Remember culture under lights is the most important( Light important ) for your plant to function greater need for more food, and water to grow and bloom. Without it they will sit, stunt , won't grow healthy. Under grow
lights your plants will need more water and food. Also when plants are growing and blooming they will need more water and food. Experience and a litte experimetation are the best guides to satisfaction with plants under light.Light is the most important for growing your generaids . " All of them AV's are Gesneriads too !

Wonderful tutorial, Allison! That's basically how I did my Alsobia, so I guess I did it right! Thanks for sharing!

Mt Zion, IL(Zone 5b)

Very beautiful, Allison. *sigh* Oh why oh WHY do I have such trouble growing these? I can grow everything else....AVs, hoya, Epies, all kinds of tropicals.......but I have NO LUCK with Episcias. =0(
I guess I will enjoy yours from afar.

Oh Betty . Maybe it's the humdity ? They do like it warm and humid . You must try again. I know you can grow one !
thanks Amy !
April wanted me to show how easy it was so I did ! I wish I had more time and more space I'd keep more :))

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Yes Betsy, If I can in hot arid Cali you should be able to in IL!! And the metallic sheen on their leaves makes me drooooool! I'm so in love!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

They really are the easiest plant to grow. Start with an easy one not variegated, pink excpet if you plan on giving it lot's of humidity.

Lilburn, GA

Thank you very much for the explanation, Allison.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Your welcome hope it helps anyone looking to grow and progate Episcia ! Simple and easy and loads of Fun :))

Lilburn, GA

I am looking forward to propagating mine.

Yesterday I did some begonia cuttings with help from Laurie. Soon i will have many to share.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Laurie sent me some Begonia cutting they grew like weeds now some of them are out in our garden !

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Allison! I'll have to take a closer look at my one and only Episcia to see if there are any babies.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

If you have a baby you will know it. But take take it off too small.
If all of growing can sahe a baby or even send some unrooted stolons with each other/others who have known soon everyone will be having fun growing and sharing Episcia !

Mt Zion, IL(Zone 5b)

Well, I'm going to give it yet *another* try......I'm getting some Episcias in a trade. They like lots of humidity, huh? Hmmm...maybe I should grow them in the bathroom instead of the family room! =0)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes the bathroom would be good if you can give them a lot of light. Or the kitchen water and cooking always running in kitchens .
I do nothing to mine but water . They sit in a window and grow. Today I did take ( Grey lady and she has a dozen or more flowers !!) one from a 5 inch pan pot to a 6 inch hanging pot. I hung it off the back of my little stand that has no lights this way I have more room on the stand. Next I need to put an Alice, Chocolate Soldier, and Cygnet in hanging baskets the same way ! Fun ! Fun ! Fun :))

These are the survival plants of the other plant you sent me. Sorry, I can remember the name right now. The mom died. These are the three little guy that were trailing from her. They are very healthy and doing great. I think I used to much water on Mom.

Cygnet! I think that is right.

bumping so Allison can see her grandchildren.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

WOW your Epsicas are doing terrific ! I only sent you unrooted stolons and L@@k now WOW you sure can grow them !
They will branch out in the pot and grow full like a trailer if you keep taking the new stolons babies off pot them alone or in with Mom. When they plant is big and full you can let babies grow down sides of pots babies will bloom too !
I think when you pinch out you Alsobia Cygnet to thin out was a mistake. As it will keep making new plants in the pot. Again keep taking babies off BUT ONLY >>..NOW babies come out on a rope like from Mom with stolon on end. Cut this off.**** Leaves extra plants that grow in same pot there in pot*** >> just cut off stolons.Don't this out. Again when big can keep on if you want. In sticky I wrote a thread how to grow these. I have grown hundreds. Right now my largest is full 6 inch pot, but have had them full 12 inch pot !
Here my firt one I grew into 12 innch pot from 1/4 inch string baby...BUT all my plants even your's came from this my first one.
