CLOSED...I just realized, after a month on this cite, that I posted too much at a time, and it's confusing to people. My project is too large to post it all at once! As I need help with certain areas, I'll post a particular problem! Thanks to all who offered/ shared!...connie
As you can see from pics, I've started planting, but still have a LONG way to go. I'm determined to do the work myself to get into shape, so am doing it gradually. I'm in Austin, Texas (rather, Lakeway, which is in the beginning of the Texas Hill Country) so I get ranges of temp from 105 in the summer (today, April 18, it was 100!) to about 25 a few winter nights. I want to add evergreens and am considering a black pine, but need suggestions for bushes that the danged deer won't eat. I've planted some "deer resistant" flowers (verbena and marigolds) and purple fountain grass, blood grass and some Cordylines. Any other suggestions? Will any of these not make it, according to your experience? Any and all comments welcome and will give me something to think about while working! Things I WANT and hope will work: 1. Japanese Maples, 2. lots of orange/purple/ green/ light green flowers/foliage...no whites, yellows, pinks, lavenders---all vibrant colors 3. purple cannas 4. miscanthus senensis (purple/red/rust ones) 5. groundcovers 6. some kind of water feature for center of the reflection pool 6. tall, monolithic basalt-like fountain for bare spot by door,...disappearing into black river rocks 7. something to cover the deck and all stairs...slate? 8. some kind of walking path through the large beds...more slate? 9. lighting...solar or elect? and 10. more money. :)
Thanks!....Connie
