Hi everyone, I get to be first, unless I get too windy here and somebody else hits the send button before I do.

Maria, your GGD is such a pretty little girl, and your grandson is a handsome man.

I had to chuckle about the younger man, 87, golly, how old is his date? I think it is great that folks that age can still get the warm fuzzies even if they can't do more than go for a shuffle (walk) and hold hands, oh yes, and kissing too. Blush! Keep us posted on the hot romance.

My treasure for the day from the thrift store cost me a whole dollar, a CD of a group of about 10 men from Liberia singing African versions of some familiar hymns, and other Gospel songs, part of them in English and part in some dialect, (have to do some research and see if I can learn what it might be). They sing unaccompanied, with just some drums and finger snaps, and very smooth harmonies, it's just a delightful recording. I've played it several times and am always sorry when there are no more songs. I guess I will have to look them up on ebay and see if I can find more of their CD's.

My lucky number at the discount store wasn't, but that's ok. I win something about twice a year. However, while I was in the store I did succumb to some chocolate covered orange stick candy. Oh boy, it is yummy. We seldom eat candy but this is exceptional. I'll leave a few on the counter, first come, first served. Be polite, 1 per customer! They are addictive. Well, of course there aren't any calories in them, do you think I would do that to you?

Got to get a shower and go to bed. Goodnight.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, I promised that I would be back and tell you what I did today.

First I tackled the laundry room, it serves as the mud room also, as the back door opens into this room. So after winter, there was plenty of krud in there that needed moving. Looks like it belongs to somebody else.

Finished the dusting and cleaning the bathrooms, then out to the pseudo greenhouse (garage) where I potted about 50 coleus, some day lilies, perennials, and made a hanging basket of "wandering jew", and sweet potato slips. After a short rest, fixed supper, and back out to dose the plants with "mighty plant" and then sowed 4 more varieties of tomatoes that came in the mail today. Whatever am I thinking. With my 300, and DH's experiment of hydroponics of 400, what is 50 or so more. If you all come through Ky. in about a month,I can furnish you all with all the tomato plants that you will need. I see a "for sale" sign in my front yard in the near future!!

Well, a neighbor and I are "escaping" tomorrow for lunch out. She is entertaining 3 grand children this week, and I have sort of been in a funk this week, so misery loves company. I can already predict a big luscious chocolate dessert in the near future. Makes everything seem better.

Well, off to bed, as I want to have energy enough to tackle that dessert tomorrow.

Everyone have a good restful night tonight.

Good Morning!! Sun is out and it is supposed to hit 74 today! Yahoo. I will be out in the garden all day - no workout day - it's Wed!!

Just talked to my mom and she is in a tizzy. DB is going on another cruise on Fri, went to the doc on Tues and is in the hospital today having a stone removed from his bile duct. He wanted to wait until he returned, but the doc said NO~ I am wondering if that is what is wrong with me- my stomach has been aching for quite a while - comes and goes etc. May need to check that out. It is ironic, that what he gets, I get too - laughed about it often.

Maria, what cute pics!! Aren't young ones the most precious. So innocent and loving. Although my DGS is growing up. He is nine and just discovered there isn't an Easter Bunny. He asked me if there was a Santa....I told him I thought there was....no sense bursting all his bubbles at once!!

Defo- HOW many tomatoes??? What in the world are you going to do with all of those! Join the funk club- mine comes and goes....I think it is just me.

KG- that is hoot about your MIL asking to go out!! Go for it girl is what I would tell her~~ My mom dated for several months, then called me crying and said she hadn't been honest...she was dating!! LOL - like I would care! She ended up getting married to him and it has been the best thing in the world for her (and us)

Gotta question for ya- why use earth boxes- why not just plant in the ground?

Well, time for breakfast and to cruise some other forums...

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

I was up last night for I don't know how many hours. I don't keep a clock in my bedroom any more. I went to bed early, was tired, then saw 1:30, 4:30 and 5. Just woke up a few minutes ago.

Hey! It rained last night, all over the ground. Now we won't have to sprinkle. We have rain forecast 4 out of the next 7 days. I wonder if this is the North/Central Florida rainy season?

Yesterday it was so hot. I put a few rows of plants in but took time out during the worst of the day and stayed inside. The truckload of mulch came. I asked if he could bring another one. He said he would be trimming trees next week out this way and he would bring me another load. I need to do something, make cookies or something so he will remember me on a regular basis, not blend in with all the other mulch beggars in the county.

I want to be the number 1 mulch beggar.

Jeremy is up and about. I suggested to him that we get to work early, then take a few hours off in the a/c then go back out after the heat of the day has broken. He seemed agreeable to that. Good thing, now that we have mulch , we have more to do.

The mulch is pretty green now due to the trees being in spring. Any suggestions to application?

Thanks,
Molly
:^)))

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Molly - I let my mulch sit for a year before using it in the gardens. I did do paths with the green mulch tho...

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

ok, paths sound good, it will keep the sand down.

:^))))

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Sarv, Earth boxes are for those that do not have much room for a garden, they can be put up on the porch or terrace. Also one does not have to water them , the are watered through a tube that collects on the bottom, they are covered up with a plastic cover with only an opening for the plant.
If you want to know more about it there is a thread in the container forum, it is most interesting, I thought I want to expereince with them, it seems much easier than digging up lots of space some where else.and for me it would be much too much work.

Good morning to every one, am spending the day with my daughter, school's out and I will have dinner at her house instead of here for a change.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Good morning all,

Been up for awhile. Had BK and solved the Sudoku from the morning paper - rated *** but harder than ***; so I use my spreadsheet to sort and help eliminate the excess numbers. Did go the aquafit this am as I went yesterday instead of Monday (pool closed for Easter Monday holiday) and I'll go tomorrow. Don't want to go 3 consecutive days.

It will be warm here today as well. Need to get my seedlings outside again - I still bring them in overnight and I need to start more seedlings.

Won't go in to the Food Cupboard today as I usually do unless they call me and are unusually busy. But I have to work on the 2005 Annual Report which I didn't quite finish when I retired. The AGM is next Wednesday. Successor will deliver my report, but I've been asked to be the "guest" speaker and talk about how the FC got started 18 years ago. So I need to work on that talk too.

Last evening a bunch of us heard a small Red Hat choir sing in the Kiwanis Music Festival. They placed second! (Out of two entries, but we don't have to say that. LOL Actually, they sang well - VERY well considering they've only been singing together for a couple of months. Afterwards, about 30 of us went out for a drink a couple of blocks away from the church where they sang, completely taking over the outside patio in a local pub. The red hats garnered quite a bit of attention. Fun!

Mary, you're CD sounds like a good find.

Bonnie, you make me tired with all the cleaning. Enjoy your lunch. I think you've earned it and it should help with the funk

Sarv - what do your DB's doctors think about the cruise? Is it a good idea so soon after such a procedure? I guess all kids learn about the Easter Bunny soon enough. But you know there IS a Santa Claus!

Molly, how do you manage to get all that mulch? Would cost a fortune around here.

Maria - have fun with your daughter.

Just heard a noise - they are out sweeping the streets. They put down so much grit in the winter that in the spring they have to sweep it all up again with those street washing machines. I thought they did it all a couple of weeks ago as I swear they were doing it two nights in a row when I was trying to sleep though I realize I incorporated it into a dream one of those nights.

Well, better get busy.

TTYL.

Ann

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Good Morning, what an industrious crew!! I accomplished absolutely nothing yesterday, and didn't even substitute anything enjoyable, just a wasted day.

Babs, your mum will have a lovely palate of color when all those flowers bloom. You accomplish more in a day in your gardens and hers than I do in mine...and I have help. She is such a good humored person, we so enjoy your stories about her comments.

LOL about the best man's pants, Suzi!! There's always one disaster at a wedding, so I guess that was theirs! When my DIL's son got married, the "wedding planner" managed to mispronounce his name numerous times, which has now become a long running family joke.

Dianne, that is so cute, your mother asking permission to "date". I suppose she worried that you would think it was disloyal to your father. Gosh, at that age, she could do darn near anything she could manage and I'm sure all she would get is praise for it! Everybody needs those warm fuzzies, no matter what age you are.
Volunteer pussywillows! I bought some once that rooted in the vase, and I put them in the ground but it wasn't a wet enough area for them and they died. I expect yours will do nicely down near the water, but you might think about thinning them in a year or two so they don't crowd each other out.

That Porsche is a real head turner, Ann! We drag the Mustang 'vert out a few times in good weather, and when something else hasn't gone wrong with it (now it's a brake problem) and it's fun to see people's reactions. Too bad your car has to spend the summer on the driveway...I told DH a long time ago, he can have as many cars as he can shelter, but I get my parking spot in the garage, closest to the door, no matter what. Worked so far, but we do have a truck on the lower drive, and one car in a rental spot in an apartment building.

Gas just took another leap here too, last week it was $2.79 for midgrade, now it's up another 10 cents. And the price per barrel went down! Somebody is getting filthy rich and it ain't us!

Molly, that was a great deal on the mulch! I grabbed our town truck once and got a big load of chipped green wood. They come around and clean up our dead wood if you leave it at the end of your drive. This time they were cleaning up the small trees that a neighbor had cut down to make room to pour their foundation. Since the area I wanted to put it in was not planted, and I didn't care if it created heat, we put it down right away. I would highly recommend the cookies for future needs! Guys always remember food!

Sarv, is that brother a twin? Stomach miseries are the worst, and you seem to get them fairly often. Wouldn't be a bad idea to check it out. And he's going on a cruise? Whatever will they do with the children? LOL

Dcat, what a lot of tomatoes!! I'm debating whether I even want to put in any vegetables this year. There's a nearby farm that sells everything I can grow, and sometimes it's not worth the effort for just the two of us. As far as the black plastic is concerned, DH usually buys it. I would prefer to use the heavyduty black fiber because it lets the rain seep through, but I can't convince him. I did see a huge roll of the fiber kind at Sams the other day, and if I buy it, I'm sure he'll use it in lieu of paying for another out of his pocket. Enjoy that chocolate dessert, I'm swearing off sweets for bit just to see if I can do something about my excess poundage. Breakfast today will be fruit and cottage cheese.

Can you believe it after twenty years of marriage, we still have separate checking and charge accounts?! We have only had one unpleasant conversation about money, and the end result of that was, he pays the mortgage, and I pay for just about everything else! When it comes to landscaping or garden stuff, we each buy whatever we think we need at the moment. (But he paid for the new John Deere mower because he "needed" it, LOL) I went through my expenses just recently, and it pretty much breaks even. Considering that he will get everything when I croak, he's got a pretty good deal.

Enough of this sitting in front of the computer, I need to get moving.
Have a happy day, rain if you need it and sun if you don't. See y'all later.

Sheila

Good morning, it looks like a beautiful day here today. Temps already in the mid 50's. I'll take it!

Pussy willows are great especially if you do have that wet spot. Mine is very large but the deer keep it so trimmed that I can hardly get cuttings from it but it sure is pretty.

Love the car pictures and stories. I had a '65 mustang that dh revamped, then he sold it on me. That was back in '76, what a sweet car. Now it is a Rondezvous for me need the space and like being up in the air, to gawk!

Picked up ds at 11:45pm last night. Next trip he takes his friends can take him to and from the airport. Said he had a good time with sister, got a royal sunburn and spent much of his time at Megan's Bay on St. Thomas. Not sure if I want to know all the details of a 19 year olds vacation. LOL

Maria, sweet sweet pics of ggd and gs. Thankfully I get my dose of little ones in nursery on Sunday mornings. Some of them I could just eat right up. Gracie our little "tank" loves to get stuck in tight spots and stands there saying "up, up, up". She actually cries when I leave the room, most cry when I come into the room!

First of the many Mennonite greenhouses opened yesterday and the car just pulled right in. Only came out with 2 small leafed but brightly colored coleus and a Mandevilla. I grew the Mandevilla last year up a trellis and what beautiful flowers. I let it die because it was in the ground, this one I will plant in a pot so I can hold it over, hopefully.

Here is a pic of my mini tulips and cushion spurge, have a great day.

edited for spelling.

You all, I can't believe it. DH had a chiro appointment this morning, left me and Mr. B in bed and we slept until 9:30. That is unheard of around here. Mr. B didn't get up until 10:00. He is so funny, he just lifted his head and looked at me when I got up, then laid back down and went back to sleep. He is such a sweetie.

Well, have done nothing today, am going out to lunch, with the neighbor, and that will probably be the bulk of my activity. Lifting that fork is strenous work!!.

I will be back later to comment, and tell you about lunch. Hope all have a good day. ~~~ frantically at each of you.

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Morning all. Haven't read just skimmed yesterdays and some of todays postings, but will go back later and read all.
It's going to be 79 here and sunny so I'm going to start slaying the laundry monster ,then out to get the lawn mowed, compost spread on the vegi garden boxes and covered to start warming, plant some of the many flowers outa the coldframes, and get some mulch and get it down, feed the slugs in my hosta beds and touch up and feed the roses.Then I may take a break.LOL the best laid plans, lets see how much I actually get done.
~~~~to all will check in later and let ya all know what I get done. :) Lauri
Dear Friends,
I'm so proud of my tomatos that I wanted to show them to somebody...and you're the lucky people! (smile). I don't dare show them on the Tomato Forum, I would be laughed off of DG, but I know you will be kind and not snicker too loud.
The pix are not too good, just a throw away camera, but here's one, and one to follow.
VAnn, the mulch is free in this county. Asphlund is the contractor in many counties in Fla to do the tree trimming around power lines. If they give the mulch away, they save the expense of disposing of it. Many homeowners evidently have their names on the lists for drop off because there is a big demand for it.
When I was in Lauderdale, the mulch was free too, but you had to go pick it up yourself instead of getting it dropped off. I was never too interested in having bulk, unbagged mulch piled in my van.
It pays to live out in the country. :^))))
Great maters Pati...
Molly
Oh yes, Sheila, I got your box today. They are soaking now and I'll plant them later after the sun goes over the trees. Thanks so much, Postage will follow shortly.
Good morning. It's a busy day but here is a kitty fix for you, AmandaPanda watching her MTV. She knows where the mice are (one is in that little plastic bottle, the other just behind it).
I looked up the name of the group that made the CD I bought yesterday, it's an amazing story. The group met at Liberia's only school for the blind, then they scattered because of civil war that went on for years, and then got back together. When they sing "God is so good, He's so good to me" I think people believe it. I read their stories on a website, it gave me goosebumps. We have it so good here. http://www.africangospel.org/
See you later. ~~~~
MaryE, you have indeed found a treasure! I have loved this music out of Africa for many years, and one of my top favorite groups is Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Their music is not only wonderful, but they are a treat to watch. A few years back they were on many TV programs. For amazing religious music, the CD "Voices From Heaven" by the Soweto Gospel Choir can't be topped.
Ann, wish I could share. I had one for lunch on soft white bread with Miracle Whip....drooling back at'cha! LOL
Pati
Edited to say that Sammi also makes me drool!!!
Hi all
Just tried to post this and am I *ever* glad I had copied it first! It would have been one of those long replies in the "poof" pile of no return if I hadn't. Are we having problems again today? I got a weird error this time. LOL
Okay Pati ¡K this is a stick up! Hand em over! You eat your mater sandwiches just the way I do. ƒº I knew you were my kinda people! LOL
Okay, here's my post ¡K
Time for lunch already? I had one of * those * nights again. Uggg. Feel hung over or something. Maybe a nap will be in order later.
Pati~ congrats on your maters! The DH came walking in yesterday and said ... oh by the way ... did I tell you there's a baby tomato out there? I mean,
he was soooo calm about it all. What's wrong with this guy? I ran outside screaming ... get the camera ... you've got to take a picture for me!!!! And
to that he said ... it's dark ... I can't take a picture. LOL LOL I need that 2X4 He's just too calm about it all!
Mary~ I enjoyed the link very much. It's a remarkable story. Swiped my piece of chocolate covered orange stick candy! Thanks! :)
Lauri~ good luck with your plans today. You know what *they* say about the best made plans. LOL Hope Salsa is doing good today. :)
Joy~ sounds like you were a good girl at the Mennonite greenhouses. That does sound like so much fun.
Molly~ great on all that mulch. I bet those cookies would definitely help.
Hi Maria~ does Samson behave when your GGD comes over or do you have to crate him? She is such a sweetie.
Defoe, you make me tired! Don't know how you're going to take care of all those plants. I'm down here rootin for ya, though! LOL Hope you're eating some
chocolate for me.
Kelly, have you heard from your doc yet? And how about Bill and the job? Hope things are working out for him.
Well, I've been working on this for an hour, so think I'll go ahead and post. I'm not going to preview so forgive me if I've missed you. Will come back
later to say hi to those I've missed. Need to get busy for now.
Waving and wishing everyone a wonderful rest of the day!
... Elaine
Okay, I'm holding my breath and crossing my toes. Can't cross my fingers and hit the send button. LOL
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
Molly, I inderstand that if you let a huge pile of green mulch (tree trimmings) stay in a big pile, they will compost rapidly if you keep them somewhat moist, Then you can use them for mulch soon. You'll know by the heat the pile produces. When it's down to an internal temp. of 60º (or ambient temps) it should be useable without burning any plants.
Pati, I love that group too.
Ann, would love to have a copy of that cd!
Back to the rest of you later. Right now trying to get stuff loaded onto the laptop my sister bought yesterday. It will be our "traveling" computer while we househunt this summer. Also waiting for the new yard man. We just can't keep up!
My tomatoes here (all 8 plants!) are looking decent and we hope to have at least a few ripen before we exit this house!
Just got a box in the mail with 13 dahlia tubers in it. I made tags and potted them up! What a treat!!
M5- all in my family except my sis have stomach problems...seems to be a heredity thing. My sis has terrible scoleosis and is constant pain - I wouldn't trade her stuff for the world!
Dave said he is fussing with the DG system today - that is why things are crazy.
DH just got the tractor out and is hollaring for me to come help him...grrrrr
Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)
Wow, went out for an errand or two, came back, power had gone off. Asphlund is down the road trimming trees and they knocked the power out. Jeremy says about 45 minutes. Good news is, they brought another truckload of mulch. mmmmmwwwwwwaaaaahhhhhhhaahahaa :^)
But it's so hot. He was working on the daylilies while I was out. only 4 more rows to put in. I guess I better get out and help.
Just dropping in to say "HI" to everyone.
I've read a little of the most recent 'happenings'. I just *had* to comment on the bus...GOOD ONYA, Darius! (And trust me, a camper 'potty' is a *must*. LOL)
I've been keeping busy with my embroidery, watching my garden come to life and planning where I want to plant MORE daffodils this fall. :-) NOW I *know* when the gardening season *really* begins. (With the Crocus!!)
Y'all take care.
|Mary, I too laughed at dating at 87, if at 87 I decide to do anything, I don't think I will ask anyone's approval!! Good find on the CD. I like that music also.
Hope, sounds like your Step Daughter and family is doing something, I would love to do.
Sarv, DB, going on another cruise, that's a bummer about the stone having to be removed. Since you have so much trouble with your tummy, why don't you have yours checked out. We have about 750 tomato plants all together. Want some? My funk has ended, so all is well for the time. LOL about mom telling you she was dating. Good for her. I would feel the same if it were my mother.
Molly Mc. Dream up some really luscious dessert, maybe in addition to getting all the mulch you want, maybe an elibigle feller? I wouldn't use that mulch around plants yet, it may burn them.
Maria, those EB sounds interesting. I would love to see one. Let us know how they do.
Viann, The Red Hat Choir sounds like fun, but going from a church to a bar, is that from Heaven to Hell? Just don't tell how many groups participated, just say they were second!!
M5, our gas prices here today was 2.95. How much higher can we stand?
Joyous, you just don't want to know all the details of a 19 year old boy's vacation, believe me. You went to a greenhouse and walked out with money in your pockets?
lauriewilson, those are sure industrious sounding plans, let us know how much you really got done.
Patischell, the tomatoes are great. I like a sandwich like that too. Good snack in the afternoons on hot summer days.
Mary, AP is so good looking
M5. Sammi has really grown!
101, Armed robbery for a tomato. hehehe Yeah, DG is slow today.
Darius. I haven't heard you volunteer to "Captain the DG bus" grin
Pooped ! Got both of the 70# beams up on top of the 8 ft posts. See-Sawed up the posts with 6 lifts. Couldn't handle both ends while climbing a ladder so resorted to this method. Worked better than I had hoped. That's just a 'guy-thing', can't ask for help. On a home-making note we bought a new freezer, garage ref. and at LONG last, my stove. 4 burner gas, convection oven, one grate turn over to become a Wok grate and the burner has two units with the small center one that can be lit for a simmer burner. Too much computerized stuff, but seems you can't avoid it nowadays. Oh, and the fountain is finished, minus plants. DW just said dinner is ready. BBL
Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)
Hi all,
Just in from a concert of the National Arts Centre Orchestra - a young Norwegian conductor subbing for Pinchas Zukerman, their regular music director who is on a "sabbatical" - actually a bit of a snit with the orchestra. The music was all changed too but we got to hear Hilary Hahn play the Glazunov violin concerto and the last work the the magnificent Symphony #2 by Sibelius. Third movement in particular and to a certain degree the 4th were upstaged by a bat which swooped all around just over the heads of the orchestra and out into the hall - up above us at one point and we had moved into a box in the top row. DH said one of the female bass players nearly left the stage at one point. Good concert in spite of the extra entertainment.
Well off to do a few things before bed. Tomorrow will be busy. Will have to leave Aquafit a bit early as one of my students is practicing at 10 am with an accompanist before playing in the Kiwanis next Tuesday. The local accompanist I usually use was already booked at that time and we ended up with one a bit farther away. Then we have Kindermusik and in the evening, bells. No small ensemble after bells though as too many have conflicts.
Hope you all have a good night.
Ann
waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)
Note to Robert, if your new range has all those fancy features, I hope you bought the service package...heat is very hard on computerized parts, I've gotten my money's worth out of mine in only five years. Will renew it when it comes due, too. Can't fix them yourself.
Say good night Gracie......
Well, I'm going to make this short as I posted a bit ago and ... you guessed it ... it's a goner! LOL I never use to have problems losing my posts before. Let's see ... who can I blame this on? hehehe
Hi Juli~ good to see you. Glad you're enjoying your new hobbies but do drop in more often and tell us what you're up to. Maybe you could post a pic or two?
Bal your remodeling projects sure sound wonderful. Do you hire out? :)
Hi Hope~ sorry I didn't speak to you earlier today. I didn't see you way up there! LOL Do come back in and tell us a bit about you and your garden. We always have fresh coffee and great calorie free cyber treats. LOL
Maria~ please keep me informed how you like your EB's. I think that would be an easy way for me to grow veggies also. That way I could keep them close, and they'd be low maintenance. :)
Well, I found out why the DH didn't get all excited over the baby tomato. Went out a bit ago to take a look and the bugger is no bigger than the tip of my pinkie finger. LOL I said ... that's what you're calling a mater? hehehe
Okay, I'm not taking any chances. I'm stopping for now. Hi to those I've not mentioned tonight. Hope everyone sleeps well. If I can, I might come back before I go to bed. :)
... elaine
Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)
Meezer, I don't usually go for those extended warranties . Most of them are just a way to get more money from you. This time though we went with the 5 year extended one because of the computer stuff. Would rather have gotten a Wolf range but money and space wouldn't permit it.
waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)
Be still my heart!! That's what I wanted too and didn't get for the same reasons. As soon as I saw that mine had the touch controls, and computerized features, I took the service contract. Usually I don't bother because if they are willing to offer it, you don't need it. But with all the products coming from foreign manufacturers now, it's just self defense. I've had three service calls on the Jennaire, at a minimum, the contract has paid for itself twice.
My first Jennaire was already in a house we bought, already 10 years old, never had a problem.
We need a picture of the new treasure!
