Lovely. I love spring blossoms. They lift one's spirit after long winter. :-)

Like a beautiful bird in flight. Sigh....

I'm pretty sure this came with the house, but never bloomed till this year.

None of my daffodils look like what I put in this fall, but I sure like what I got.

Another mystery. And no sign of the poeticas I put in.

Here are few non-bulbs I can't resist showing you. I bought some wild flowers from a grower next door. This is Jeffersonia Dubia. My ladyslippers are poking up, too.

Trillium.

Good tastes Pitimpinai.

And what Erythronium is that, Boojum? Where did you get your misnomer Narc?

Ed. to ask: Which Trillium? T. erectum?

Erythronium oregonum from buggycrazy. I think the pinkish one is Passionale, which I ordered from John Scheepers, but the other was sposta be Bell Song, but no way the yellow perianth and the cream are Bell Song.

Double bloodroot.

Tammy, I found the source in plant files. Tulip world, they ship for a flat rate to the U.S. of 9.95 and their prices seemed fair. Time will tell. I ordered some other bulbs as well.

wallaby1, I think it is Salome, but due a broken pipe in my home a few years ago, I lost all my garden records of 23 years along with 700 + books ( a large number were favorite garden books) as well as most of the rest of the contents of two floors in my house. So my id is only based on a vague remembrance that I planted Salome a long time ago and that I never planted another pink daffodil, so I think it is, but would love someone to Id it for me.

Such a disturbing story! You must miss those records and books terribly. I don't think your pic is Salome. She has a gold edge. I am quite taken with this one though! Could it be Pink Charm?

boojum, where in the world did you get the double bloodroot? Wow, wow double wow!

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Don't remember, must be local. Glad you like it. Sorry I can't help.
Not sure the Pink Charm link worked-here's another try:

Don't like how dark that link is. I'll try the JScheepers pic again.

I give up. Just go to JS and click pink cupped narcs.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

boojum, I looked at pink charm and the petals seemed rather swept back. But what I will do is dig up a clump for you in the fall and drop them off in Shelburne Falls. . I have a house in southern VT. (Williamsville) so it will be a good reason to take a detour over the mountain to rt 2 and stop and take a stroll on the bridge of flowers which I always enjoy. Then you can id for me next spring. patti

Tammy, your mislabelled tulip is definitely 'Elegant Lady'. The interesting thing is, that 2 years ago we also ordered tulip 'Cistula' from John Scheepers. Later in spring, it turned out that they were mislabeled. We, like you, got tulip 'Elegant Lady' instead.

I made a lot of pics of my tulip varieties, but do to our slow connection, I have difficulties with posting the pisc.

Nevetheless, I will try to post the pisc of the most interesting varieties.

Greigii tulip 'Sunset' (syn. 'Saulriets', 'Grand Difficite') from Latvia. It has very unique shape of flower. All my neighbors were highly impressed with this one. Me too, of course.

Tulip 'Top Red', an interspecific hybrid between tulipa fosteriana and tulipa greigii 'Lovely Surprise'. It is very massive, extremely large flowered (petal length - up to 18 cm) and tall (70 cm). I am crazy about its shape and brightness of color. A superb variety, again from Latvia,

One of my favorite Darwin Hybrids - 'Maria's dream'. I love it very much.

Boyed, what a tasteful choice of tulips you have. Even the pics look lovely together. I'm curious, is this mis-naming happening a lot from JScheepers? I also got 5 amaryllis bulbs this year and one didn't bloom, but 2 of the bulbs were mis-named. They replaced one and it bloomed true and will replace the second in the fall. The nice thing is, I always like their mistakes as much as the ones I ordered!

bbrookrd, I am overwhelmed with your offer! No one from DG has come to visit me either! So excited. I actually live closer to Greenfield than SF and right near the road from Rt. 2 to Wilmington, VT. We should stroll over the "bridge" together.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

All I can say is that is a lot of great pics! boojum you are the envy of all with your double bloodroot!

bbrookrd, whatever they are they are gorgeous, I would love to have a correct ID as i think I am very tempted! I posted a pic of Salome on the 30th, they are a long lived and robust flower, not entirely pink but the colour is true, they have a soft beauty.

Neal the lathyrus vernus only grow 12" or so tall, they don't set around much, from what I have read they don't seed easily at all. They are slow to start, and don't like their roots disturbed. I only planted mine out after a year, kept them in the deep germinating pot for a year until they got going. Once in the ground they do well, those are 5 years I think as I did the bed Autumn 02. I keep meaning to collect seed, they don't make a lot, but I forget until they pop. I have 3 self sets from the pink one which I am going to plant elsewhere, haven't seen any purple yet but I know they made seed. They like it cool ,mine are in a semi shaded spot with plenty of compost around them, leaves tend to make it more alkaline and my soil is acidic, they like alkaline. Your woodland setting should suit them.
i bought mine from Mr Fothergills as 'rainbow mix', this site has the same but seed may give more variety.

While we are in the 'big' tulips, this red one has just kept getting bigger, if it opens fully it will be ginormous. It is about 30" tall.

wallaby 1, I so loved the back of Replete in your photo that I dutifully went to the plant file to find a source. Then I found your very succinct explanation of worthiness. I have chosen not to order it. Oddly I had spent the morning with a recently re- acquired copy of "The Englishman's Garden" an old favorite that I had lost due to water damage. The book contains brief essays by many of the great English Plantsman with very poignant thoughts on their particular garden philosophies. Keith Steadman's of Westend House, Wickwar, Gloucestershire writes " It was not going to be difficult to avoid the things which I did not want, but more of a problem to achieve those which I did." I enjoyed your thoughts and have avoided a plant I think I too would not have loved save for it's backside! Thanks. Patti

Patti,
So glad you are getting your books back in your life.

But this belated comment goes here, since it isn't strictly a bulb I'm commenting on: what a spectacularly well-grown specimen of double bloodroot! I haven't seen anything like it since I left MA four years ago, and no longer visit the Garden in the Woods each spring. Thank you for the glorious picture. (The tulips and daffodils everyone's posted are wonderful, but the bloodroot was a real surprise.)

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

you are very welcome. I didn't know it would be so appreciated!! I will have to go have a talk with the bloodroot and let it know it's well loved.
