Coffee and for Saturday April 15th, Tax Day USA,
Good morning,
First at close to 8 am? Are you all out shopping for Easter dinner or sleeping in after over gardening yesterday?
Looks a bit gray here, but I think it's supposed to improve later today. I MIGHT see my first early tulips if the sun comes out.
Have a good day.
Ann
Nuh uh, Ann, I was first 'cuz I set up the link. Yes, me, the technologically challenged, Can/Rock Destroyer, and early riser! Still surprised that it worked!
Yay m5! Now you can have the rest of the day off.
It's rainy here, which is fine since I got my peas, carrots, onions, garlic and dill planted. The rain will get them going.
Haven't had coffee yet, and need to address the rainy weather sinus headache, bbl
Good morning Sheila, yes it worked you are one smart lady I could never do it, was wondering it their was a romorrow, LOL!
Sorry you do not feel so hot, allergies are appearing from every where.. It is cloudy here but warm, thank goodness. For me, Forthysia is the only plant in flowering bloom right now, rest is just foliage except the tulips, deer ate them all even pulled the bulbs.
Have a few errands to do today, fixing a basket for my GGD Emma, she is alrady at her grand parents home with her parents. I will be seeing her tomorrow , it has been 6 month since I saw her last, it will be fun. Asked my daughter what I should bring, she said not a thing, you have done enough for us but I will bring her a bottle of wine, she will like that.
Her sister is entertainin her in-laws, I will not see them but had a nice day with her yewsterday doing some shopping at the mall, her husband gave her a gift certificate forVictoria' secret, I said, he is trying to tell you something, LOL because she said, never have been in there! I am tying to find some shoes for the summer, don't like any of them, most of them have an inch of platt form soles and lots of ribbons to ty them around the ankle, real strange.
BBL in the mean time good morning to all of you
Morning everyone - stopped in just for my morning fix - before my neighbor and I take off for garden centers!! I got up way before the rooster crowed to make salads for this afternoon (we're having Easter today!) It will be a real casual one - my mom just called and asked if she could wear blue jeans!! LOL - haven't things changed!!
Anti social DS/DIL./DGS probably won't show. DS has been working 12 hr shifts, has to work today and said he is just too tired to be polite. Even if he isn't tired, he has trouble being polite LOL - (I didn't mention that to him) He's the one who asked me to order my own Christmas gift and still hasn't paid me for it. I reminded him 2x, and won't do it again. I did see him glance at the calendar where I had written the amt. he owes me - then he looked sheepishly at me.
Well, time to get the plastic out for the garden haul- last year we had to stack flats two deep - it was a hoot!!
ps our weather man reminded us that last year at this time we had 80 deg temps and snow the next week!! bahhh humbug.
Morning all. I think we should all go visit Molly and take lessons on aquiring daylilies (or we could just 'borrow' hers?) hee hee wow! That's a lot of planting!
DGD stayed over Thurs night, so school Fri., DS watched her. They had a lot of fun, according to her. Went to the park, played soccer, played on the computer but he wouldn t play 'Trouble' with her. And then she picked a daff for me and mom. Isn't it sweet when they pick your flowers just for you??
I had a chuckle while we were outside last night. I heard a loud rattling noise, looked over to the neighbors and saw a large whirlwind/dirtdevil coming out of the corn field and across the road and then dissipated when it hit their house. They just spent hours raking their lawn to get all the corn leaves off of it on Monday and now they have a bunch more to rake. I don't think I've ever seen one that large tho, it was easy 10 feet across, maybe more.
I guess that was my excitement for the week, pretty boring here, need to get ready for work. Have a good one!
Just tooka a sweet Irish soda bread out of the oven, have some with your coffee
Delicious thank you Maria!!!!!
Morning all, Sign me up to help *borrow* some of Mollys DL with that many would she miss one or two??? You inspire me to get out and do something Molly, as soon as the rain stops...
M5 glad the link worked for you, I read the how to and said..huh??? I do good to turn it on and off and not push the wrong buttons..Loved the rock/can it has personality...
Maria, yummm very good soda bread. That hit the spot as I love it and need to make it more often.
sarv, Have a great time at your garden centers and try not to buy too much, like I do....LOL I have even been grounded from them by DH...
~~~~Waves to all I missed and all coming later. Have a great day, bbl...Lauri
Trying to decide where to put the two new roses and five peonies, DH is outside and I'm trying to get things in order in here so I can go play too. Not as warm as yesterday, but sunny and not too windy. Better go finish up, (snatching piece of soda bread as I skedaddle, thanks Maria!)
Sheila
Thank you so much Sheila.
I was in such a snit about not being able to post pictures I kept rebooting and cleaning caches, and testing that I completely forgot to start the daily.
I went to bed and still in a state of snit, remembered that I hadn't done it, but was too lazy to get back up and go startup the computer.
So, I sure do appreciate it!!
Susan
=^..^=
btw still CAN'T post pictures, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Yay Sheila. I guess I was still enough asleep that i didn't notice who started the link. There's hope for all if you can start the thread.
Been working on scanning an article for the Viola Society Newsletter - reviews of new CD's. I scan them from Strad magazine - first as an image which I print out larger and then as text which needs to have correction but not as much as if they were as small as in the magazine. Then they have to be edited because we can't just print them verbatin - copyright infringement. We excerpt them and point the readers to the correct magazine if they want to read the entire review. Haven't done thisin two years; so there are a number of magazines to catch up on. But since nobody else has contributed much to this newsletter, it's a good issue to fill with new releases.
Sky is brightening. I might get into the garden for awhile. Go to play piano quartets this evening (that's for fun, not a job). Fulfilling one of my retirement objectives to play more chamber music.
We have a batch of bread on the go. I get DH to do most of the kneading since he eats most of it. Saves my aging shoulders. But it's on second rise. I'll punch it down again and shape it in about an hour.
Ann
Back from the garden centers!! With a trunk full of LOOT! LOL Our favorite garden center was so empty you could have shot a cannon thru it + grand opening wasn"t for another week!! I'll need to remember that because when the grand opening comes it is wall to wall people. My only major disappointment is that they didn't grow any browallia this year or my favorite blue petunia. Drats...
Darius- I was looking at daylilies and I found one named DARIUS!! I bought two in your honor!! LOL now I can blame my big bill on you!! This year my goal is to buy every plant I can find that has a family members name on it. Whoopee won't that be fun!!
DGS lost his first soccer game - DH said he was in a snit over it!
Well, we're off to an early Easter gathering - yum- I'm starved....
very nice, KItty
Thanks Maria, that's Wile E smilin'
LOL
Well, I have read everything, but with company here, I didn't get anything posted. It seems like spring has either arrived or is just right around the corner for everyone. I hope it is as good for all of you as it has been here so far.
I did a "no no" last night. The books say that you should never try a new recipe when you have company, but I did it and it turned out great! Actually I have had both, but never cooked them myself. I did a pork loin with garlic and fresh rosemary sprigs, and sweet potatoes with garlic and fresh rosemary. I can see already that I will need to start a couple more rosemary bushes this year!! Both dishes were delicious!
Our weather right now is typical for here - spring nights and mornings and summer afternoons. So far we still haven't turned on the A/C but a couple of evenings it got close. I hope we can get by awhile longer.
My new purple plum, purple smoke tree, black knight butterfly bushes and asorted other delights are all doing well. I still have a few small plants to get in the ground, but by midweek I should be able to sit back and enjoy some new blooms. Plus the greenhouse is about half empty, mostly orchids left and I'm sure they will be outside by the end of next week.
Happy Easter to all - good health and fun gardening for each of you.
ginni
tgif, pork loin with garlic and fresh rosemary sprigs is one of my favs!
Maria, love Irish Soda bread, haven't had any in ages. Thanks.
Sarv. that's funny about a DL named Darius. I've been gifted 2 since being on DG and moved away from both. Drats. One of our members, cyberageous, named a puppy after me since she said I was her first friend on DG.
To Everyone, at this Holiday Season:
WE ARE
We are the leaves of one branch,
the drops of one sea,
the flowers of one garden.
~Jean Baptiste Lacondaire~
Enjoy the holidays. :-)
Thank you, Darius, that is lovely and so true,
Happy Easter every one
Happy Easter to all! We are heading out very early for Rochester to attend Mass with DD#1 and take her to brunch. She doesn't have time to come home, so rather than have my first Easter without her since she's born, we're going there. I know, it'll come soon enough! But we can have this Easter together.
9kitty thanks for the Wile E picture! I have never seen him, he's adorable! He looks like a Wile E!
darius-Beautiful quote.
Oh, the good news is, I don't have to do any dishes (just 8 hours in the car - we're just going for the day) Still beats cleaning I think!! Easter "dinner" will probably be at a Thruway stop!!
Pati, looking at this picture Can't t say anything bu t "WOW" just gorgeous
I couldn't do too much today. Was up doing taxes last night til 2. I went to turbo tax, like I did last year. Well, they led me along and all was fine. Then they decided we were going to do the State tax return for intangibles. Never saw that one before. We don't have a state income tax. Well they took me through the whole thing then said the state didn't want me to file a return. Then turbo tax wanted me to pay them for the state return. Very curious. I went back and deleted the state return and it was not charged for.
At 3 one of the dogs had to go out. The eldest one, with itching, scratching and pacing the linoleum floors. I maybe got to sleep at 4 then they had me up again at 7 or so. So I kept the manual labor to a minimum.
We got some extra water hoses and sprinklers and got them situation in the daylily fields. I spent a lot of the rest of the day looking up daylily names and descriptions for my store. One of them bloomed today. We were very excited it was true to form.
McCool, those sprinklers are called "pulsating". Today when we bought some more, they actually had some packaging on them that said that. Those are the ones I called clickclick sprinklers.
Well going to watch a little SVU, then hit the sack. Tired today.
Happy Easter all.
Molly
:^)))
Hi, All!
Went to the school bus auction today, bid on 2 but wasn't successful. Have a current bid running on ebay for a bus already converted. Closes tomorrow night and so far, we are the high bidder. It's in Ohio, near Cincinnatti.
I can get the best flight rate to Columbus but will ask my DG friends if anyone can pick up Bruce (our driver) in Columbus and drive him to the bus location on the outskirts of Cinn. (Fairfield). I'll pay for gas. (Ugh!)
Well, folks, I am still alive. It has been a very busy day. DGD, went to an Easter Egg Hunt this afternoon with her best friend. While she was gone, I cooked. She had requested a cook out for her birthday, so we did hamburgers and hot dogs. I fixed baked beans, potato salad, deviled eggs, macaroni salad, and strawberry short cake. Stopped at a couple of yard sales today, bought a small cooler, and 20 soup bowls, all for $2.00. DGD bought a scooter for $15, so we were happy campers. DGD had a very profitable birthday, she got $50, from her dad, I got her 2 of McCools candles, a shirt, some bikini underwear, peeps, nail polish and a $25 Walmart gift card. Her GGM gave her a necklace, and my mother gave her a pair of capri's and a shirt. She has already celebrated her birthday at her house, and I think that she was really pleased with it.
Pattischell, that is one gorgeous flower. When you said you got a piece, does that mean the flower doesn't belong to you?
Maria, that soda bread sounds really good.
VIann, what kind of bread are you making? And music just for the fun of it. Hoorah!
Darius, when will you know if you won the ebay bus bid?
M5, you are so smart, starting the thread. Congrats. And tell us please where you put the flowers.
Sarv, so tell us,what kind of plants did you buy? And really how many, a small truck load, or a big truck load?
dmc, have a safe trip, and a good visit with DD.
Molly, Turbo tax did the same with me when I filed DMIL taxes. I just printed it out, and filed it myself rather than pay their fee. Molly, you did enough work yesterday to make up for what you didn't do today!!.
tgif, If you are through planting, please come help me this week. I have tons of stuff to do in the garden. It is too early to just sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor!!
Hi magoobu, ~~~ at ya!
101, have a good weekend with your family.
lauriewilson, ~~ at you too.
Kooger, that is so cute about DGD picking your flower for you!! I haven't seen a dirt devil for a long time. You mean in came out of the corn field, and plastered leaves on their house?
Kittymom, don't know that I had met Wile E, what a nice dog. Great that you are able to post pictures again.
Well, have a full day for tomorrow too. Taking my DM to her church (early service) then, we will go to the regular service at a church in the neighborhood. Then lunch, have baked a ham, and gonna have the left over potato salad, deviled eggs, baked beans, etc. then have to have DGD 30 miles from here at 2:30, so that she can celebrate Easter with the other grand parents. The sound you hear tomorrow about 3:30 will be a great big sigh from me, that the whirlwind is over.
Well, gonna check out some other forums, and then to bed, so that we can start all over again tomorrow. Have a good restful night.
I feel bad, people don't seem to remember Wile E. He is such a good dog. Do I only talk about Pepper and Piper. Poor Wile, don't tell him, I don't want his feelings to be hurt. LOL
I am going to start the daily and go do a report for the spca before I forget about it AGAIN.
I had a really nice day, about blew away, but got a lot done, then we went out to eat and I went and got still more plants. I am out of control. LOL
Can't wait until I get everything out and the way I want it and then I will send you pictures of it all.
Have a wonderful Easter, it is going to be beautiful this year.
Blessings to everyone....
Susan
Happy Easter everyone,
dmc - hope you have a safe trip to Rochester. It's a long time in the car for the time you have there.
Bonnie - my bread is a multi-grain with a bit of everything in it - brown rice, Red River Cereal (is that available in the US?), ground flax seed, corn meal, wheat bran, oat bran, oatmeal, soy flour, gluten flour,
stone ground whole wheat bread flour, white bread flour, milk powder, sunflower seeds and sometimes sesame seeds, one egg, pureed squash sometimes. Makes 4 loaves.
Good night all.
Ann
Oh Viann, that sounds so good. I have never heard of Red River cereal. What kind of grain is it made of? I am not real good at making bread, my neighbor says, that I need to make bread when I am mad, then just knead the stuffing out of it. I am always afraid that I will work it too much, so it doesn't turn out like it should. I love good yeast bread, will take that over dessert any day!!
Have a great Easter.
