Hi GREN ! Miss you.
Save some seed of that yellow Columbine. They are easy to propagate.
I got the Broccoli, Kohlrabi and Pac Choi planted today. I hope thay don't get a chill tonight, it's down to 41 already. Just getting the first sprinkles of rain.
Did I show you this 'thing' Sarah started doing?
A hand stand to put her 'scent' up high. Posts, bushes, hydrants and in this case a fence.
Not in our yard, only on walks. LOL
Not an easy pic to get, gotta be fast.....
Andy P
Coffee's on and Spring is here!
LOL! Sarah must have some wierd form of spring fever?!
Oh, Andy! I planted some blue Columbine seeds this year, Blue Star I think it was? I see babies coming up! You want some seeds from them too?
No Thanks, I have more than I can handle already.
I used to grow the McKenna Giants. 3 - 4 feet tall, beauties.
Now I have some shorter ones, lavenders and reds.
Andy P
I have Some of those too, they are so carefree, How can you not love them?
I think they have a whimsical look about them...
I can't believe how damp and cold its been today, had the chills all daylong!
I don't think I like it much.
Poor Anita, it always rains on her weekends...
I need to plant out my WSing, they are quickly outgrowing their containers, I have Globe Thistle that I swear said to me on my way past them "Plant us!"
It could have been those voices I hear from time to time but I reallly think I should get to work and plant those things before they grow feet and come after me...
Hi Dena - hey your name does exist I saw a person on TV have it.
I've got all kinds of columbine, it is dirt cheap after it has flowered.
My back is not very happy today as I worked a full day and then dug up my neighbor's bed to prep it. I pulled the old nasty timbers out and she said do you think I should get some nicer block edging and I'm like O yeah. I also moved my 5' mohican viburnum over their. I found placement for my burning bushes this week also.
Hey AL, I usually get my Columbine cheap the same way you do but I couldn't wait on the yellow ones this time, I realy had to have them.
See I told you I wasn't the only Dena in the world. The strangest one maybe but not the only one : )
Where is everyone?
Hey Dena! You still around? I'm not sure what that chinondoxia looking thing is. The leaves are different. They remind me of something.
Cute kids! Your daughter is goth-light at most.
GREN, I think it's an Anemone.
The Columbine responds well to dead heading but you wont have seed.
Hey, Al. You have to pace yourself, you're not 25 any more...
Andy P
Hi Dave,
My daughter is interesting to look at these days.
I almost yanked that unknown flower out with a handful of weeds yesterday, then saw that little bit of purple and decided to hold off on the yanking till I find out what it is...
Andy I would have to say no to the Anemone, the leaves on mine seem to different...almost fernlike...
I was trying to remember the foliage of my old house's anemone (the little corm) I agree with Andy but the flower seems more lobed.
Dena, Does her look really get to you?
Just a guess but I'm sticking with it.
I just looked at a few pictures and ya know, I'm really not sure what that plant is, you just might be correct Andy...I just can't tell???!!!
Dave no I don't mind that my kid is a goth and dresses that way, I'm just happy she is wearing more clothes than most other girls in her school, I saw some girl walk out of the school with her undies up her back and I almost took a heart attack! My kid can wear as much black as she likes and the more fabric on her the happier I am! I just think she is interesting to look at...
Sorry for the long interruption. Danny begged an extra chapter out of me as usual.
Dena, I'm glad your not freaked. I think a lot of the most interesting kids do something to seperate themselves from a lot of the general brainlessness of kid society (or adult society for that matter)
That pic looks just like a street in Northern Maine, above Caribou, where I lived for a number of years........I LOVE remotes like that!! Thanks for the image!
We finally got some rain around Connecticut.....we've been rather dry. Dang "humidity" levels have been as low as "11" lately.
Get out there and get plantin!

Morning everyone - anyone need some rainwater? I have plenty to share.
Dena - that's a Grecian Windflower which is an anemone. I love them as they are early bloomers.
My landscaper finally came and put down the sod on my hill. My house is in the middle of a hill, so the front is one story and the back is two. I have a drainage problem and this past winter due to rain, etc - it gullied out my hill. I've recently - hopefully - corrected this issue by digging a small trench in front of my hedges [Privet]. It seems to work as now the water runs infront of the hedges and down to the property line where there is a fence. I might get some more composted top soil to build a sort of birm over the base of the hedge. I'm sure the privet will appreciate it. They are over 50 years old. My grandfather planted them here when they built the house in the 40's. This had been our family summer home. The plants were transplants from their home in Queens. I still have a few of the original plants which include the already mentioned privet hedge, two hydrangea, a rose bush in the back and a lilac that looks like death, but refuses to die.
Well- I hear the rain coming down like nobody's business again...it's good for the sod and for the seed I threw down yesterday. Check in on you later!
Anita - are you saying your family just left you there one year at the end of the summer?
sad, isn't it...
Anyone want to go swimming???? Here's the latest weather statement from the weather gurus.
HEAVY RAIN CONTINUES TO FALL OR WILL BEGIN FALLING SHORTLY
ACROSS THE WATCH AREA. PORTIONS OF LONG ISLAND AND CONNECTICUT
HAVE RECEIVED ANYWHERE FROM 2 TO 3 INCHES OF RAINFALL SO FAR.
WITH A HEAVY BAND OF RAIN STILL EXPECTED TO MOVE ACROSS THE AREA
LATE THIS MORNING AND THIS AFTERNOON...ANOTHER 1 TO 2 INCHES CAN
BE EXPECTED. THIS WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF ROADWAYS AND LOW LYING
AREAS. SMALLER STREAMS WILL RISE QUICKLY...AND POSSIBLY ABOVE
BANKFULL.
They are pretty Al - your soil looks fantastic too!
Anita, we have had only enough rain to wet the pavement....
So close, hopefully we will get some worthwhile rain later today.
I saw it on radar this AM going over Long Island and Hartford, headed north.
I think I'll pot up the tomato seedlings. The flats have roots coming out of the bottom.
Two warm weeks in the cold frame helped a lot.
Some feral cats dug up my Broccoli and Pac Choi last night, grrrrrrr....
I don't want their fertilizer.
Andy P
Anita, if I were you I would dig or drill a few little holes in that there wall and share some of that water with your neighbor...LOL!
See that, Andy, it is anemone, just like you said! Sorry I doughted you, hope you can forgive me! : )
I have to tell you, I have no ambition to clean my house, and it NEEDS it so very badly. I have found many other things to keep me from getting to it this morning...
My house never looks this bad, I think the cleaning lady went on strike...
I was praying for the sun to come out so I could go out in the garden but that didn't happen. I guess I don't have any more excuses, except that I just don't feel like it. "I don't wanna!" (pout)
Dena - that's where the water comes from! My yard is in a valley that I believe was a natural path for water going down to the lake. My neighbor, two doors down, put up a retaining wall and I beleive that also adds to the problem. At least the water doesn't get into the house. My neighbor next door is not always as lucky.
If the heavy rain would end it wouldn't be so bad..
Well...I need to get motivated again..
Anita,
I think my kids have an extra set of orange arm floaties, you want me to send them your way?
GREN, Questioning is good, makes us look a bit harder. LOL
Still no rain here. Just got back from our walk, chilly east wind brrrr.
Put a favorite CD on and zip through the basic cleaning, maybe dance a little while you're at it. You'll feel better.
Andy P
This was a good little indoor job. Transplant the tomato seedlings into pots.
I have 3 flats (3 kinds) each with 15 - 20 seedlings, started indoors and moved out to the cold frame a couple of weeks ago.
Here is a dozen + a 4 pack of Beefy Boys and a flat of Better Boys before transplanting.
Yogurt cups make nice little pots after holes are drilled in the bottom.
Andy P
Good afternoon!
Anita's parents may have gone home & not told her, but at least they left her with some plants from the big city!
I bet there are still a lot of folks who think gardens in NY city are all on rooftops.
Anita, What happens with too much rain? Your basement flood? You have a very cute yard!
Hey Dena, Let me see if I got this straight. Andy says he thinks it anemone. You disagree. I agree with Andy, you don't know, Anita says it anemone and its anemone. Well I guess we know whose opinion counts! ;^)
Andy, you soaked yet?
The rain stopped here and it is beautiful. I can go out and play now. How about everybody else out there?
Pixie
In Utah????????
Sorry Pixie. Not you . Blooms, in UT.
Pixie: Its still rainy here. I think you are ahead of us.
No Dave the rain has missed us. Less than a tenth of an inch, the pavement is dry.
I suspected we would miss out on this storm.
Andy P
Dave(dear friend)
I respect everything you and Andy say, however the leaves on the Anemone were tricky to ID and still I find it hard to beleive it is so as the center of the flowers in my garden don't seem as large as the ones I have viewed in PF. But, they are the closest thing as far as I can tell, the color, size and bloom time matches up very well. So you see its only because of the help and suggestions of all of you that I have any idea of the mysterious, delicate beauty growing of its own free will secretly in my garden. : )
P.S. pouring down buckets of rain here in RI.
