Hi again Jim, Yes, and I think a drive out to the ole' Meeting House is just what's in store for me this fall. I also have lots of photos taken in Monocacy Cemetery as that's where lots of my husband's ancestors are buried.
It's interesting that Monocacy comes up now too, as when researching my husband's great grandfather, I was told by my mother-in-law that he died and that her grandmother had remarried. Well, lo and behold the grandmother had remarried, but she was divorced from the grandfather. Come to find out, the grandfather had indeed gone on with his life for many years as well and had four more children! I even managed to get photographs of great uncles and a great aunt my mother-in-law didn't even know existed (she's 71 years old). I even went so far as getting a copy of the entire divorce papers from the Archives in MD, the grandfather's death certificate, etc. Of course, it has taken her quite a while to "believe" the documentation.
Now if I could only dig up some rich relatives that have left me some of that dough, I'd be doing something, LOL.

Georgiaredclay, I have Daniel in my line too. Absolom Bedell (Bidel, Biddle) was born ? but died and is buried in Greene county, GA, as is his wife, Ruth Jackson, daughter of Isaac Jackson and Mary Miller (both born in Chester County, PA.) Ruth and Absolom were memebers of the first Quaker settlement in GA, Wrightsboro.

Absolom was one of the first of three justices in the state of GA (Wilkes County) after the Revolution. He fought at the Battle of Kettle Creek. There is an historical marker on some courthouse square there in GA that bears his name. He was my 6th great-grandfather. My great great grandfather, Absolom Bedell, the first Absolom's great grandson, married Susan Colley. Their son, Robert Bruce Bedell married Minnie Daniel, daughter of William James Daniel who was the son of Joseph Daniel.
The Terrel and Smith lines take me all through the old South and back into royalty, but some of it is not much to be proud of...those Terrels (Tirel) are in Shakespeare, and not very savory characters.
I can go on and on about this but am trying to contain myself. I will be glad to share what I have, and would love to know if anyone connects to this.
One of my early, early American ancestors was a pirate turned farmer in Manhatten, but because of his Muslim background and barmaid wife (his father, a Dutch seaman down in the Canary Islands, was given the choice of becoming a castrated Christian slave by Muslim pirates, or convert...he did and became a very successful pirate), they were expelled from the Dutch colony. I like to think I got at least one gene from him...when he was expelled, he went to Hempstead, Long Island and established his farm there...in the agreement to sell his land in Manhatten (right there on Wall Street), he insisted that he be given the right to transplant all his 20+ peach trees. Now I know where I got the "garden" gene.
We probably ought not discuss the War of Northern Aggression here as some of us lost. That's how we ended up in Texas in 1870. Our land at the time of the war was in Auburn, Alabama. My great great grandfather came to Texas with his family and pregnant wife (they stopped in Mississippi to have the baby) and settled in what is now Plano, Texas, just north of Dallas. They are buried there.

Well ain't this a small world. I was raised in Opelika, AL. only 7 short miles from Auburn. Yeah I didn't want to bring it up either. I have papers from Tn. where my grandfather applied and received a pension for serving in the war. He was wounded twice. Once at Chickamalga and again at the big Battle of Franklin. He was fighting next to his uncle that was wounded in the head and died from the wound 20 days later. I have relatives that fought on both sides and I bet that was rough having to not only fight neighbors sometimes but family as well. Lantana I will have to check out those names and see if it rings a bell anywhere. Ladygreenthumbs you keep me posted about the trip. I have really had a wonderful day today. First I met tiG for a plant swap and that was great and now to top it off with all these story's that seem to bring us all a little closer and make our history a little more interesting. And aren't we glad those were the good old days and not the now days. Thanks for the link. I spotted a John Bryan on there. I wonder if he is related. LOL. I really loved the story about the pirate and also about the divorce or not a divorce. Find those rich relatives I need a loan real bad. Jim

I suppose we all have that "six degrees of separation" that would take us back to some notables in our lines.... However, I favor those who helped make this country grow, by sheer Will, Sweat, and Determination.

My favorites are: (1) A great-something or another of mine, a family with 3 children who walked over the Appalachians to Ohio with all their worldly goods on their backs. (2) My grandmother, who homesteaded 140 acres in Colorado with 2 sisters, all between 18 and 25 years of age. Grandma was a crack rifle shot, and would pick off rabbits at the salt lick for dinner! I have old photos of them in front of the walled tent they lived in, and always wondered how they managed to dress in those long dresses and high buttoned shoes out of a tent.

Then there was the GGF who traded 10 acres in what is now downtown Cleveland, for a mule and a plow, so he could move his family farther west where it was less populated.

I greatly admire all our pioneering women, and gladly carry the genes of some of them.

YOU ARE FROM AUBURN?!?!?!?! Wow!!! When summertime gets just too hot to garden, I usually turn to my genealogy...this will get me started for this year...I really need to organize all my stuff (I know there must be a way, I just have yet to discover it). My husband's family is from TN...around Knoxville. I would like that Quaker information you have by e-mail, Jim. I can never get enough of this stuff...I think I suffer from obsessive behavior...gardening and genealogy. But they keep me out of trouble. About that 6 degrees of separation...I do believe we are and have been forever (reincarnation) and God just keeps shuffling the pack until we learn all our lessons here. Ancestor worship can be very informative as to how we got to be what we are. And maybe a hint as to where we are headed.

My maternal grandmother's family immigrated from England to upstate NY and settled in Oneida county. Her maiden name was Salisbury and as far as we know she's the last in the her family line. Supposedly we're related to one of the British Prime Ministers in the late 1800s. I would love to meet other Salisburys.
