Good Morning all,
Got the rest of those daylilies yesterday. There was a little bit of room in the van left to pick up some beer. We got them home, finished the final count (which ended up being 485, because I wanted 3 Cherokee Marys, a more expensive cultivar, to add to the collection) then unloaded them.
I spent the rest of the day trying to get them alphabetized and reading for planting. Only got to the "k's" and there's a lot more left. Looks like I have to extend that field some more.
Yes, I am having these plants for resale. Too much money to spend on a whim. I still have a lot to learn about them and am not ready by any means to get into cross breeding and raising them, but will learn some of that as I go. I have the land to raise them on so will give it a try.
I also stocked up on some other plants last week so I have a small variety. Trying not to put all my eggs in one basket.
It's 52 out there but the sun is coming up. I believe I will get out there as soon as I finish my coffee and get some work done before it gets hot. Asphlund is in the area trimming trees. I caught up with them yesterday and they may be bringing me a truck load of mulch today.....for free!
Molly
:^))))
Here's part of my daylily field. That stuff in the back is our aluminum can crushing center. I'll post another when I get the dl's lined up nice and pretty, later today.
Morning All,
Was up bright and early about 5:30,,,Bill was coughing continuously,,,finally told him to go get a glass of water. Then he fell asleep and started snoring,,,so there I was, wide awake,,,now I could go for a nap,,,LOL
With my legs, ankles and feet swelling,,,,I'm thinkin' maybe I'm having a reaction to the Wellbutrin. Which ticks me off cause it is helping really well with the depression. I take 2 in the morning and 1 more 4-6 hours later,,,well after the first 2 in the morning is when my legs start looking like Puffer Fish,,,grrrrr
Sylvia,
Glad you popped in for coffee this morning. Yes, the conversasions are usually quite something,,,LOL
Molly,
Yep, I'm thinkin' by the size the pic shows of the daylily bed and haveng almost 500 of them,,,you're gonna need to start tilling again,,,,a lot,,LOL Can't wait to see them all.
Well, gonna go check some more threads. Will try to pop in later.
Hi to all who haven't checked in yet. Hope everyone has a great day.
Kelly
Molly-ROFLOLOL do you still want me to send some ditch lilies??
Lauri-I'm praying here, I always try to spend Good Friday in quiet meditation, and I will have some prayers for you and Salsa.
Susan-We can have all Fridays if you want, I'm okay with that!
Kelly-I hope your neuro-whatever (I don't remember things like that at all) and feet are improving. I can only imagine the discomfort. Will you have an especially busy time right before Easter too?
Joyous-Good for you losing some weight and feeling better. Maybe you're now on the medication you've been needing! That would sure be a blessing. And I am counting mine today, and I'm going to be joyous too!
City sylvia-I do hope you stop back in for a Coffee break!
Elaine-Thanks for the prayers! Sorry to hear about the septic, ARRGGGH, I remember discussing this with Kelly I think - it always seems to be around the holidays, if you're having company, and up here it's in winter when it's the hardest to take care of!! WE *sure* take septic for granted most of the time!
dcat-thanks for the prayers. I try to be grateful and know things could be much worse...but boy people can sure pile up on you sometimes! I hope you have a great time with DGD. Despite the "double whammy" they are loving when they are little, and usually pretty fun.
I'll be back, need a coffee refill....
Oh my yes please DMC, I still want the ditchlilies for my own ditch up by the road. The ones I already received a couple weeks back that started that project out are up by 6-7 inches from little sprouts. They are doing this on minimal water and little care and attention. This is what I need down there. It's too far from the house to put named cultivars. Those plants I just bought will be helping to pay for my house and electric.
Molly
:^)))
Good Morning- phew, I've been busy...I made a list of all the plants I have in my gardens- what a job. It is 4 pgs long! I am going 'plant' shopping and I always forget it if have 'it' or not! Now I can just carry my list with me!! Getting smarter in my old age!
Sun is shining - gonna be unseasonably warm. Probably will pop the fruit trees out and then we'll have a freeze - never fails.
Welcome Sylvia- ya we are a funny group...this place keeps our sanity..
Lauria- fingers crossed that you will get a 'good' phone call
Joy - whatever you are taking- throw it on the table for the rest of us!! Your 12 lbs landed on my bottom/hips-thanks a lot!!
dmc- you can keep your fab days!! Yikes- it sounded awful. Kids are the surest road to gray hair (speaking from experience)
M5- boobie prize goes to you for the ugly garbage can - trash it! I'd love to do some hypertufa - when can we get together??
Well, my house is trashed and DIL coming over with DGS. We're going to bake cookies, make jello eggs and maybe stuff some plastic eggs with candy/money for an Easter Egg hunt.
Take care everyone and have a 'good' Friday!!
Sarv! 9 pages, you are ambitious. I keep telling myself I need to get my journals up and running but find if I am going to do tedious inputing, I better do the profitable items first.
Jeremy is cooking the heart attack special and I am in charge of the eggs. Better go so I can get to the gardens.
Molly
:^)))
Good morning,
I've finally gotten a chance to read through the thread from yesterday. I won't try to comment on everything. But Joy, good work on the pounds. Wish mine would go that easily although if it's a med for another problem that helps with the loss, myabe I'm happy I have to work at my weight loss. dmc, what a day. Maybe you can blame it on the thread being named Friday, the 13th?? No, probably not. Chin up. Kids do eventually grow up. but as for the "grown-up" DS and DBIL, good luck. Molly, I'm blown away by the scale of your day lily project.
Yesterday was chock-a-block full. Aquafit in the morning. Then I went grocery shopping as today is a legal holiday and the stores will be unreal tomorrow as everyone prepares for Easter dinnner. Home just a short time before we had to take the kids to Kindermusik. I sat down at the computer, then remembered that the leather grip on the viola bow I use most had become unbearably sticky; so I dashed off to the repairman to have the grip replaced. He said, when I picked it up, that the original grip had been put on with a very sticky double-sided tape, which is not the usual way to apply those things. I guess after 13 years, it acquired enough sweat and body oils to loosen the grip and expose the sticky tape.
After Kindermusik, we brought the twins back here, but I'm afraid I let DH entertain them while I cleaned a bathroom. Two more to go. The house is dirty.
Then while DH drove the kids downtown to their Dad's office, I had a quick dinner and left for bells with viola in tow to run through Good Friday piece with the choir at their rehearsal. Managed, on my way home, to buy a big bag of pro-mix and some more tray dividers to get more seeds started today and finished off the day by making a big batch of hummous (100 oz can of chick peas). I do it en masse and freeze most of it.
Today, allowed myself to sleep in a bit. Gotta go get breakfast and then do some practicing before we head out to the Good Friday service which is at 11. They have an old wooden cross and start at a church a couple of km away and carry the thing to the church where the service is (ours, this year). I like to do that and the weather looks promising today, but it's a bit farther than DH wants to walk at one time yet.
DH is recovering well from his surgery, but it takes awhile to regain complete control. I think he's getting a bit discouraged about the incontinence, but when pressed, will say it has improved. It was just 6 weeks last Wednesday. He can now lift 20 pounds instead of 10!
Hope, this afternoon, to get more seeds started. Some of my tomatoes have germinated as have my morning glories and Basil. The Basil was a bit of a surprise as I expected it to take a bit longer. Now comes the challenge of keeping them adequately lighted until I can put them outside. My grow lights are too high and not easy enough to adjust; so I end up putting boxes under the trays to lift them. The morning glories will probably have to go into larger peat pots before I can plant them out.
Well, have a good day everyone.
Ann
I'm glad everyone enjoyed my artistic efforts, now , who can I send it to that deserves such a nice reward? Oh, I know, dmcd's BIL...perfect!! Sorta wondering what his interest is in the property....He wasn't the one who inherited it, was he? Not too bright either, leaving the other messages on his email. What would be the point of keeping property you are not planning to use? Maybe he's just one of those people who don't want to move off the dime, in spite of whether it makes sense or not.
Excellent buy on the lilies, Molly. I see a lot more work ahead, that area might hold a third of them....good thing you've got DS handy. It will look glorious when they all start blooming. All my new bulbs are peeking up in the containers, so maybe we can get them in the ground this weekend, and then hope we don't get a cold snap.
We had big thunder boomers and rain last night, but the sun is shining this morning. I've got bedding in the washer, and DH strung the clothes line for me. Looking like high 70s, but cooler towards the next week. The laundry monster has grown to where I need to put a strangle hold on him today, before he gets any bigger..
Elaine, don't you just despise septic systems? After our battle with the mound system last year, I'm always conscious of the fact that they like to go awry at the worst possible times. When our alarm went off, DH was saying " Don't worry about it, there's margin for error" but I called for service right away. Good thing I did, because it was ready to start backing up. It's lower than the house, so we wouldn't have had anything nasty inside, but nothing would have drained. The pump inside it had failed, but you have heard all this before. Cheap pump, cheap builder.
Sarv, come on over, two hypatufers would be more fun than one. I have to go look that up, I know there was a forum or a thread on it but don't remember where.
Joy, I think a few of those extra pounds landed over here too. I grabbed a pair of jean yesterday, pulled them up and then, ooof, closed ..ooooof.... the.... oooooof..... zipper. So I think I need to be a little watchful about what passes my lips for a while.
No, no, it was a pasta and spinach salad, no lettuce, ewwww.
Since duty is calling, nay, make that shrieking, my name today, I'll just ~~~~ at the rest of you, and catch up again later. Let me know if you want to throw your name in the hat for the prize rock/can because I know there will be a big demand for it. And you wouldn't want to miss that opportunity!
Later,
Sheila
Morning, all. I awakened and then immediately went back to sleep when I heard my sister and the kid leave around 7:30. I always sleep so hard when I do that. After some breakfast (NY style bagels & cream cheese!) I'm driving to the other side of Orlando, a 60 mile trip one way. Going to preview auction stuff for tomorrow. My sister wants to buy a used school bus to use as a moving van!
Have to rush, as I'm meeting her friend Bruce there since he's knowledgeable about buses.
BBL
Whew! y'all have already been gabby this morning. LOL
Well, I have good news. The guy came over to replace the pump and found there was nothing wrong with ours. There was something loose down there so all he had to do was connect a screw or something. I don't understand that stuff ... all I know is the pumps working and I'm a happy camper! :)
Meezers, you're just toooo funny! LOL Think we should pass the hat around, do ya? hehehe Well, hats off to you for giving it a whirl, I say.
DMC~ This is my fav time of year, also. I like it better than Christmas. I have so so many blessings and my friends here on DG are just one of them to be counted. :)
Molly, you sure have your work cut out for you! LOL Congrats on your great wheeling and dealing. :) Don't work toooo hard.
Kelly~ sorry you didn't sleep well. Hate it when mine wakes me up like that. He can fall asleep at the drop of a hat while I toss and turn. Must be a man thing. LOL Hope your legs feel better today and you won't have to come off your med.
Ann, I'd love to attend your service. That sounds very special.
Lauriwilson~ am eagerly awaiting the report of your horse.
Well, to those who haven't checked in yet or to those I might have missed ... I hope you have a blesssed day.
... Elaine
Well, it looks like I got a slow start today, but have already been to the chiro, and looked around for some pepper plants, then home. I am heading out to pot up some of my tomatos, as they are getting pretty leggy. So will probably be out in my pseudo green house (really the garage) the rest of the afternoon. Sometime this afternoon, I need to finish a financial report for a Board meeting tonight.
I am not even gonna try to comment to anyone now, except to say Hi Sylvia, drop in more often.
~~~~~ frantically at eveyone, will be back later to try and catch up.
Kelly, what strengh Wellbutrin do you take? .... doctor gave it to me to stop smoking, I didnt know it was a anti-depression drug. I 'v been taking Imipromine at night for ten years...its supposed to be for my bladder, buts its an antidepressin too, No wonder I start flying around here.
....be back ..got a patient
Sylvia@work
Hi everyone (and a special "Hi" to Silvia, the newest member of the on-going coffee klatch)
Well, I still sound like a frog (and look worse, I think), but may have finally turned the corner and started recuperating from this nasty virus. I felt awful yesterday and was losing my voice by the end of the workday, but after ridding myself of more yuck after getting up this morning, have started to feel a little better. DH is working in my store despite the fact that he worked at his own job until 2 this morning (and I really don't think that he got enough sleep). He called earlier to tell me that my sales rep from one of the hobby suppliers had slipped a can of chicken soup in with my order this week along with a "Get well" message.
The forsythia bush outside my window is in full bloom and looks very cheery. I went out and took the grand tour of the yard earlier and found that the wild bergamot I planted a couple of years ago has been re-seeding itself EVERYWHERE out in the back of the garden. There's no help for it but to get out the garden fork and shovel. Anybody want any plants? It is nice as long as you have the right place for it and the bees do love it.
M5, thanks for posting that cartoon. I got a chuckle out of it. As far as the "rock"/garbage can goes ----- I've got so many real boulders here that I just have to take myself out of the running and give the rest a better chance of "winning" it! Nice try anyhow. I never would have thought of doing it.
Got a nice surprise when I got home last night. There was a birthday gift from defoecat and 101. Thanks again guys --- you both have D-mail.
Kelly, that swelling sounds awful. I sure hope you can get things straightened out without losing the benefits you've been getting with the meds.
Molly, good luck with the daylilly project! Sounds like a great business investment. We all know that you're no stranger to hard work, but this kind might let you stay put a lot more than the painting has.
~~~~~~~waving to V-ann, sarv, darius, dmcd, and all the folks who haven't checked in yet. Hope you all have great weekends whether or not you're celebrating a holiday.
Hi all haven't read everything yet so am updateing Salsa and then will go back and read..He is doing much better and responding to the I.V. antibiotics and can come home on Monday morning, they want to keep him for a couple of more days on I.V.s just to be safe....:) thanks for all the prayers and good wishes he is on the up swing!!! Must go read and bbl....Again thanks everyone!!Lauri
Yippee, Lauri!
Hi all,
Spent the afternoon in the garden. Picked up more leaves. Started working on the pile of dirt in my veggie garden. Will probably have to give some away. Got into my garden shed but the lawn in front of it is still pretty soggy. The last of the snow melted only on Wednesday. Found a bag of grass seed on the shelf which had a hole chewed into it by a mouse. Mouse droppings all mixed up with the seeds. don't know whether the seed is viable having spent the winter out there anyway - should have brought it in, but I just scattered it all over the lawn. The crocuses are exhilarating! New crocuses in new garden all seem to be little ones - or did I already tell you that. LOL I'm losing it. Can't remember what I've told you. anyway, they would look good in a rock garden which I don't have. I've been marking some of the really crowded clumps to divide and I have quite a few on the east side of the house which I will lift and move because we need to do a rebuild on a window well and the garden in front of it will be disturbed. (But not till the autumn because there are also peonies there.)
McCool - glad you are starting to feel better. I love a nice yellow forsythia.Most varieties are only marginally hardy here even though we are in the same zone as you seem to be. Is yours protected?
Lauri, thanks for the good news re Salsa. That's an upper for the Easter weekend.
Hi to all the rest of you.
Ann
Oh lauriewilson, I am so glad to hear that Salsa is responding to treatment. I know that he will be glad to be home on Monday. Please give him a big hug from me.
I still ain't commenting, potted up about half my tomatos today, approximately 150, potted some coleus that I happened to find in my pocket after a trip to a nursery!!, and have finished the financial statement for the board meeting tonight. Now I just need to cook supper, and clean the kitchen, before the meeting at 6:30.
Needless to say, I will comment on all tonight.
DGD will be here in about an hour so it will be a Rockin Weekend.
I was out in the garden, after a nap...I think it's stress. I need to take a nap to reboot my brain!!
Lauri-HOORAY! I've been thinking about you and Salsa all day and was *very*afraid to check for fear of more bad news! Ann is right, this is an upper for Easter!
Thanks everyone for your support, m5 I *really* laughed out loud with the idea of sending the "rock" to my DBIL. I always remember Charlie Brown's disappointed voice in the Halloween special " I got a rock". what a hoot. We could put it in the closet with the 2x4 and pass it around!!
Elaine-Glad the septic thing is settled and not the most expensive way.
Oops gotta get the kitty, bbl
Popping in from lurking waving to all~~~~~~spring break with son has me very busy with activities!
I hope all here are Happy Healthy and enjoy and wonderful easter with great friends and family!!
Hugs all around miss you all!
Anne
Just checking in before I hit the hay - I am one pooped puppy. Had DGS all day..made three batches of jello, played scrabble, had lunch, worked in the garden, rode the lawn tractor, visited the neighbors, made dinner - glad this isn't an everyday event!! Then served dinner to everyone.
Lauri - good news on your horse. What a scare tho!
McC - glad the crud is leaving - rotten to have it this time of the year when ya want to be outside playing. The tress are budding out here and that means stuffy head etc. My eyes itch so badly, I look like I've been crying! Plus I am coughing all the time.
We are sitting here with the doors open, windows up.... this is really weird in Michigan. We will probably still get some snow....
Just talked to my sister in Indiana - they just had a storm pass thru with golf size hail. Ruined the siding on their house and garage and their truck. They are just sick. The second wave was set to hit, so we got off the phone so they could go to the basement. Phew, we've been lucky up here- only one afternoon of tornado watches.
DH is watching nasty wrestling, so I need to go play some free cell and then snooze. Busy day tomorrow- open house at my two favorite nurseries!!.
With the help of my ds, we got all the pots lined up in alpha order. We laid out hoses and sprinklers and gave the plants a drink of water.
I'll tell you what. It was so hot and dry today, the worms were evacuating the daylily pots. I kept finding them wiggling around out the bottom holes of the pots and on to the ground. I picked them up, put them back into the pots. Well they are better now I am sure. Lots of water for all.
We make a trip to HD and/or Lowes tomorrow for a few more sprinklers and some garden hoses and marker stakes. Then we start putting the plants into the ground.
In spite of being very tired and fighting the bugs, by days end, we were hungry and had planned for fresh grilled tuna on the grill. Did that along with breaded and deep fried zucchini. All was good.
Going to turn in soon.
Molly
:^))))
Oh my gosh Molly - that is some daylily collection. How in the world did you find this person who you got them all from? Why can't I have that luck!!
I only have around 60 of them....I need more!!
Sarv, I hang around at a lot of nurseries. I manage to get wholesale at some, and just some darned good deals at others.
:^)))
I can't post pictures today. Everytime I try, explorer goes away. Anyone else ever have that problem?
I never have. Woe is me....I NEED to post pictures.
Susan

Molly, I'm IMPRESSED!
Well, everybody, DGD is in bed, I am sooooo tired. I know I promised that I would comment, but may have to retract that!!. After standing 4 hours repotting those tomatos, my back is howling!! And to think, I will do this again on Monday. The board meeting was a SHORT one, for a change. We wrapped it up in less than 45 minutes, and this is a body that can go for 2 hours plus, easy.
DH has been fishing 2 times today. The first time, it was crappie and bass, tonight it was catfish, so we are gonna have to have that virtual fish fry soon!!
Molly, that was one hard day's work. How in the world did you have enough energy to fix something to eat? I would have settled for a cold cut sandwich, after that day.
Sarv, we have windows up too, ceiling fans going full blast, and it is still warm. We are under a tornado watch for the rest of the night, so will sleep with one eye open, and ears tuned for the roar. They are predicting the high temps again for tomorrow and Sunday, so my AC might get turned on. We have no mature trees to provide shade, so when it stays warm for several days in a row, this house heats up really fast. We had highs in the mid 80's today.
All my trees are blooming, I have crab apple, bradford pear, viburnum, purple leaf plum, and the azaleas are budding, probably will begin to bloom tomorrow or Sunday. All the tulips are in full bloom, the pansy's are beautiful. This next week, I will be moving some day lilies, and starting a new fragrant garden bed. This requires that I use the tiller, and lift some sod to boot. So it looks to be a busy week.
So what is everybody doing for Easter? Since DGD wasn't here last week end for her birthday, we are having a delayed birthday celebration for her. She requested a cook out, with hamburgers and hot dogs, so that will be tomorrow night. She is going to 2 Easter Egg hunts tomorrow, so it will be a full day. Sunday, I am taking DM to her early church service, then will go to a regular 11:00 am service at a neighborhood church. Lunch will be baked ham, and fixings, for immediate family, plus DM.
My older sister called this morning and asked if I was having a family dinner Sunday. I said that if you call a family dinner, my family, yes, we are!! Was that a very poorly disguised attempt at an invitation?
Well, I have blathered on enough. It is time that I start thinking about finding my way to the bedroom.
Goodnight all, and I hope it is peaceful.
Molly, that is a beautiful sight! I'm sure the worms were appreciative too! Don't have much to say this morning except I worked outside yesterday and had the windows open all night and I feel like Sarv, itchy eyes and plugged up nose! And this is only the beginning.
I'm going to try to read the instructions, and try set up Saturday's link. Wish me luck. If it doesn't work, I'm hiding out for the rest of the day.
