Zipcode reports no longer say who said what!

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Was very disappointed to see that the Zipcode reports in PlantFiles no longer puts a members name to the report.
I liked that feature as I could D-mail that reporting DGer and ask questions concerning that plant.
Was there a reason to not have the names there like before?
Thanks for a wonderful site and the education I have gleened here at Dave's Garden.

Sidney,

I initially thought the same thing but don't get downhearted! Terry said some people (especially those in small towns) didn't like the fact that the internet community could pinpoint where they are, they have less anonomity. In a day like we live you really can't be too careful. But whenever I have added my zipcode for a plant I have also left a comment, which still allows for your user ID. I have received emails from DGers just based on comments and you'll likely have the same success.

aimee summed it up perfectly - I had a DG'er email me just this week, asking for instructions to remove their ZIP code report, after they realized their little-bitty town's name and their username appeared together - they felt it made it just a little too easy for someone to track them down via PlantFiles. They're not alone - we've had a small, but steady stream of similar concerns since we put this feature in place.

The goal of the ZIP code reports has always been to amass enough data so you can plug your ZIP into a search and the results would be useful and generally reliable. Allowing users to submit their ZIP codes without fear of being hunted down (virtually or literally) is the next step toward reaching that goal.

I went to vote and ask the little ladies what the fellow working with them's name was. They all acted like this secret couldn't be devulged. I said, "Is it Jeremy?"
They all said yes.
That's how I met JaxFlaGardener. I had been doing e-mails with him and he's now a best friend.
I understand the need for our personal security. I will miss putting names to plant reports.
