Coffee and...For Wednesday, April 12, 2006 =^..^=
Well, I decided to just go ahead and post tonight. That way I won't be the last one again. LOL
The weather has been so pretty here the past few days ... I've been trying to get some weeding and repotting done outside again. I can't believe how much everything has grown lately. I really must try to get some more new pics so y'all can see how my babies have grown. I have blooms on some of my tomatoes now that the DH has stopped picking them off. :) I repotted my moon flower which I had in the ID forum a few weeks ago. I think I've finally won the battle with the squirrels, so am just so so happy about that. LOL Maybe they were just little babies and were curious about what I was doing? Anyway, life is good in the garden!
To those of you who have been feeling poorly ... I'm so sorry you've been under the weather. To those of you who have had bad luck in your gardens or had other problems ... just know I've commiserated with you. Will go now and see if I can get some sleep tonight.
Hugs ... Elaine
Susan,
Hope you are feeling better today. Take it easy on yourself already,,,,you have a whole lot of summer to go yet,,,,don't have to get it done in a hurry. I worry about you reinjuring your shoulder. I know you said that hurt the least, but sometimes you can't feel it right away.
O.K.,,,enough of the soapbox. Hope you have a better day.
Kelly
Couldn't sleep so played a few hands of euchre, solitaire, spider solitaire, hearts and freecell. Just finished reading a James Patterson book, probably not the best bedtime story -serial killer.... dummy me!
Happy Birthday ladies!
Enjoyed everyone's pics. 'specially the crocuses! I have star drift blooming, nothing else. Does anyone know the scientific name of them? I put it in the search and didn t get any answers. Hmmm, must be a mystery.
DR - much sympathy in your loss. Went thru the whys and anger many years ago when I lost one of my best friends - I was her babysitter also. Our sons are the same age and still best buds at 25. But the anger was difficult - and she did it on her mother's birthday. Why why why? 22 years later and I still wonder what else I could have done.
Day off so did a road trip with DH. Went to Hampton, IA to pick up axles and other parts for trailers he is building. Took a few side jaunts for fun. Drove around the lake at Emmetsburg - we always wondered where that road led to... smile. Can't get off the beaten track when traveling in the past, in the truck or going home - that's full two days on the road so side trips were out of the question.
Have a good rest of the day all!
Well Salsa is staying at the vets untill Friday. He has a fractured ankle and a bone infection. If the bone infection cannot be cleared or at the least improved by Friday then he will have to be put down there is nothing surgical they can do. Will keep you all posted........~~~~~ to all, going to read yesterdays posts....Lauri
Lauri so sorry about Salsa, thinking good thoughts for him.
Kooger, good to see you. How is son's gf doing?
IO1, watch those squirrels, it you think you got them.........they'll be back! LOL
Susan, be careful, take some breaks and think 'one day at a time.'
Kelly, back to normal but what a gift having dh back to work. For sure 'thanks God'
Going to be a warm but cloudy day here and maybe rain this afternoon,something we need.
~~~~~~Good Morning to all.
Joy
Good morning- weathergirl was right for once and we did have rain.. It's good thing because I need to baby my right hand. Whenever I overuse it weeding or planting it swells up and my fingers look like fat sausages and they hurt!!
DR- so the callas were from you!! They are monster plants already!! The bell flowers aren't up yet - it isn't warm enough for those to break ground. You must be organized to keep track of who you send what...kudos
DIL called me last night to invite us over for Easter dinner on Sat (her family is coming from out of town, hence the Sat meal) Well, of course I said yes, then hung up and thought "OH NO - that is the day when all my favorite nurseries open up and I've never missed going to them!" Dinner is at 2, nurseries open at 9 and are a good distance away. I'm going to send the food I am making with my DH and am going to my nurseries. She'll understand ..and too bad if the others don't! LOL
DIL also called and asked the other SIL(grumpy one) - had to leave a message as they weren't home. They NEVER come - one excuse after another. Will be interesting to see what they come up with this year. It is a sore spot for me. Guess if they want to sit by themselves it's their problem!! For Thanksgiving, they didn't want to get together with the rest of the families, so I hosted a gala for just them, but won't do it again for Easter. Feel bad for DGS tho as he always has fun with the other kids.
Joy - didn't know you did doll houses! I've always wanted on, but never had any little girls, so didn't get one. As a little girl I had one of those metal ones (they are in antique places now!!)
McCool- laughed about DH charging your BD gift - mine does the same. One year in a snit, I told him not to get me anything- I didn't want to pay for my own gift. He sold some tools and did buy me something- then I felt so guilty. So now I just keep my mouth shut.
I need to get my tiller out. DH got me a gas edger and man is that thing slick!! I love the looks of clean edges. It starts way easier than the tiller.
Drat, local squirrel is dining at the bird feeder - gotta get my hiney out of the chair and hollar at it - I swear it smile at me!
Good morning every body
Sarv,
you do have a very nice husband, getting an edger for you would be something my DH would buy for me too and to sell some of his tools to get you a gift, how nice can it get
Ann,
Love the pictures of your grand children, Ann, mine are al grown up now one will be 34 this month, the others are 21 19 and 9, all but the oldes are girls. then there is my GGD who is now 3.
DR, thinking about you every so often, my heart goes out to you and your family
it is a lovely spring day , warm as it can possibly be this time of year have to go to the market for tonight s dinner for my children, another Wednesday has arrived
Some one of you has given me instructions how ro transfer a photo from Picasa to here, I lost it and my memory is really not conduce if to remember the how to on the computer am kind of dim witted about that, perhaps some of you know. and will be so kind and tell me.
BBL
Sarv if you notice there is a tin barn in one of the pictures, I had a tin house as a little girl too. My front window always has a farm display in the spring time. Of course this is big farm country too.
DH usually charges my gifts too but I am learning to be thankful for a gift and keep my mouth shut.
Maria, hope your dinner is extra special tonight. Let us know what all you fixed.
>>>>>>>>woosh.........gotta get out of here.
Joy
Good Morning! I would have been here earlier but Souky wasted a lot of my time writing to Huck in the Pets forum. I'm not planning any major cleaning efforts today, I only did the garage in self defense because we were tracking in a lot of that dirt through the laundry room, and it's only going to get worse. DH noticed it right away though, which is unusual for Mr. I See Nothing I Didn't Do Myself. He always expects praise for chores he does, but must think all the other things that get done just happen by magic. On the other hand, he doesn't say anything when they don't get done either, so it's a wash.
Darius, sorry, I had the impression that there was a gap in the gasket. I don't think I could handle a door misalignment either. Hope you didn't lose any of the frozen foods. My DS switched my refrigerator door so that it could open from the opposite side but I had to sacrifice the black panels to do it.
McCool, I hope your cold/flu is getting better...Don't you hate it when your nose takes a beating and looks so awful! I use Puffs which don't redden me up like Kleenex does. I can go through a big box with one of those honkers.
Molly, I knew what you meant by the click-clicks. We had two, and I managed to break the part that goes in the ground off both of them. Did I mention we have clay and rocks? LOL I did like them though, because you can set them to hit specific areas and not waste water. Now we've made soaker hoses out of our old leaky hoses for the flower beds and only water the lawn part when there's a long dry spell.
Joyous, I love the doll houses. It would be fun to decorate one, but then who would I give it to? All we have are boys, unless DGS and his wife finally decide to have a baby, and he insists theirs will be a boy. Good luck with that!!
ViAnn, the twins are adorable. I can see they will be on those bikes all summer long. Your crocuses are a joy to behold. Did you plant that many, or do they spread like that. Mine are all solitary little soldiers, as I only put a few more in last fall and I don't see last year's blooming yet.
DR, wish my front entrance looked like yours! What a sight!! You have my same garden bench, only mine is all gray and weathered and we need to replace the slats before someone sits down on it and ends up on the ground.
Lauri, so sorry Salsa has a fracture, let's hope he heals and you won't have to make that sad decision for him. Maybe he will respond well and be home with you.
Dmcd, had to go look at your farm pictures again, since it's been a while since I took a peek at them. You really have your work cut out for you, but what a gorgeous hunk of property! I'd save all that old brick and wood too, there's nothing like it.
~~~ at everyone, got to get dressed and do a little useful tidying up, before this starts looking like a land fill. It's raining slightly, but should clear up by noon. If it does, I'm going to try to get some more yard clean up done, and if it 's not windy, work on my fake rock/garbage can project! BBL
Need a Sammi fix?
Sheila
Have been up for ages. DH and I went to the chiro first thing this morning. I have put up a hummingbird feeder, as I think I saw (fleetlingly) a hummer checking out the location of a feeder from last year. Hope the little rascals are back. We get a kick out of watching them.
The weather person was wrong. Said we would have showers last night and this morning, well nothing yet, and though it is sort of cloudy in the distance, the sun is shining on my 25 acres.
lauriewilson, Oh, I hope that they can get the infection cleared up, and Salsa will be able to heal. However, I don't like to see animals in pain, so if it is necessary, although hard, I would reluctantly agree to the euthenasia.
Marie, let us know what dinner will be tonight. You always have such good sounding things. Wish I was closer, and then you could adopt me, and I could come to dinner on Wednesday too!!
Sarv, what is wrong with your hand? Arthritis? I thought I would be sore today from all the work I did yesterday, but nothing is screaming at me, so guess I am good to go again.
M5, DH said to me the other night, what you have been using on the carpet, doesn't seem to be keeping the stains down. I told him in a very firm voice, I have used everything I know, and if you want it to look any better, maybe you need to get the carpet shampooer out, and experiment with it!! Haven't seen any action there yet. There is one spot on the hallway, and when the carpet starts to get dirty, it shows up more prominently. I needed the Sami fix, he looks so peaceful.
Susan, I would love to see pictures of the tomatoes. Think you have won the battle of the squirrels? Don't breathe too easy yet, because they seem to always appear from time to time to just throw you off.
Kooger, so you took a road not taken? Don't you just love to explore like that. How is Kandice? Hope that she is healing, and will soon be able to do eveything she wants.
GG, ~~waving at you, I know that you said you would be busy at the salon today. Hope it isn't too hectic.
dmc, I go look at your farm pics from time to time. There is a sense of accomplishment, when you can begin to see things taking shape.
Joyous, I thought that is what I saw in the picture. I never was into dolls or doll houses when I was small, but there is something that brings out nostalgic thoughts, when I see the doll houses. Don't know where that comes from, maybe a yearning for never having had anything like that as a child.
Kittymom, my gosh, slow down. You don't have to get it all done in a day's time. Just do about half what you have planned, and you will probably have done too much already.
Well, I am off to get the tiller going again. I am tilling the dahlia bed, and will maybe go ahead and put them in today. If we get the rain showers, it would surely go a long way to jump start them. I still need to tend to the tomato seedlings, and get them under the lights. May save that for this afternoon.
I am having fresh fish for supper tonight. DH's brother is coming, as his wife doesn't like fish, and she won't cook them for him. I didn't specifically invite her, and don't plan on fixing anything extra just for her, if she comes. She had better bring hers with her if she plans to eat. Don't mean to sound bitchy, but I reserve the right to serve what I want, and if you don't like it, too bad.
Well, will check in later.
Good morning all,
Susan, I hope you are feeling better this morning. Like Kelly, I still worry about the possibly of your re-injuring your shoulder.
Kooger - Do you like Spider Solitaire. I don't win very often, but I keep saying "just one more try"...
Lauri - so sorry to here about the fracture and bone infection. I know they are very serious problems for horses. All I can do is pray and keep my fingers crossed. It would be a shame to have to put Salsa down.
Maria - aren't you lucky to be enjoying yet another generation with your GGD. I think Grand kids remind us what is really important in life.
Sheila - I've had part of that garden where the crocuses are for about 30 years. I grew up with crocuses and planted some fairly early on. Later, the garden was extended forward and I bought a few more, but most of them have just spread. When a clump gets really crowded, I try to mark it, dig it and spread it around; so the area covered with crocuses is gradually expanding. And I bought a big bag for the new garden this year. Most of those are not up yet. I've always found that new bulbs seem to take longer. I also put quite a few tulips and daffodils in the new garden and they have not yet shown growth. But when I look at the garden after a long winter and see those crocuses, my spirits soar!
Bonnie - I'm with you on serving meals. DD and DSIL are a challenge. She's a partial vegetarian - no red meat. He won't eat any seafood. So, no shrimp or salmon. We generally end up with chicken and I'm NOT an inspired chicken cook. But they are coming over for dinner on Easter Sunday. gotta figure out soon what I'm serving because Good Friday is a legal holiday in Canada - the stores WILL be closed. And I don't want to be caught in the grocery store on Saturday.
Just got back from Aquafit and coffee. Better finish drying my hair, eat some lunch and get in to the Food Cupboard for my volunteer stint.
Have a good day.
Ann
Hi everyone, just posting quickly while my attack kitten is asleep. She thinks it's great fun to attack my moving fingers on the keyboard.
Belated Happy Birthdays to McCool and, ??, oh golly, I don't remember who the other one was. Sorry, as my life gets longer my memory gets shorter.
Cute Sammi picture he looks so innocent.
Lauri, I hope Salsa can be helped. I know you did the best you could to take care of his injury, and the question of when to see the vet is not always easy to answer, and then they have to have time to see the patient. I'm hoping for the best outcome for him.
Yesterday was errand/shopping day and I was gone almost all day. After taking stuff to the recycle center I went to the thrift store and found a heavy glass candle holder for 35 cents that matched one I got for a dime a couple of years ago, also got a nice big flower pot for 35 cents, and a few other things. Then made a stop at a local discount store, got some new tennis shoes on sale, coffee on sale, vitamins, etc, and bought a new lawn mower. Our old one is a wreck, still running but very tired and on it's last legs, errr, wheels, for the past 2 years I have wondered every time I run it if it will finish the job. Hubby had looked at this sale mower and made some comparisons with others available locally before we got it. The day also included Chinese lunch, a stop at the local food coop, and a stop for groceries at the supermarket, where I usually see and visit with at least one person I know.
Today I need to ride Patch and see if I can get the tiller going and prepare a strip in the garden for my aspauagus. If I can't plant them I need to at least heel them in until conditions improve. I'll be leaving Friday for another ride this weekend, so I have trailer cleaning, packing, lots of things to do. So, I need to get going. ~~~ to everyone I missed.
It's afternoon and still raining -had enough of it!! Just planted a ton of more seeds. These will be the last for the summer. And potted up a bunch of things that sprouted. Man, do I make a mess!!
Maria, DH is a good guy - he just ticks me off sometimes and I am sure I do the same for him. He is losing his hearing and I wish he would get a hearing aid. I am tired of repeating things....I swear when I whisper something under my breath he can hear it!!
Just talked to DM - I can't believe the social life they have. Gone every day- visiting, playing cards etc. And of course out to eat for at least one meal every day. DM says she earned it! DSF can't lift a finger in the kitchen.
Grumpy DIL called me this morning and mentioned that the other DIL called and invited them for Easter. I was waiting for her excuse. She said if DS would go, she would too. Now he is a royal stick in the mud (takes after DH only worse!), so we'll see. He does need to do his taxes and last year did it on his brother's computer. That may encourage him to go!! Oh well...
I've cleaned, did dishes, made beds, and now I want to get out in the garden!! I need to return things to Kohls and Wally World and should do it when the weather is crappy, but just don't feel like it. Even my good book isn't holding my interest today.
Mary - good luck on your upcoming ride - may you have sunny skies, warm weather and no falls!
Fri, I have DGS for the day. He hates to shop, so tomorrow I will have to get all my grocery shopping done for Easter. I'm in charge of salads and appetizers. Need to go look thru the cookbooks and see if anything sounds wonderful!
lol, Sarv, My husband had the same problem with hearing, I call it selective hearing, lol.
But he truly had a problem with his ears from all that shooting in the war, he tried to get a hearing aid, said it drove him crazy, every sound other than talking with some one was exatarated and took over the sound of the other person talking to him He gave up. Probably today they are much better developed.
Ann, you are so right about grandchildren today I would be a very lonely person if I never had children and their children and so on.
Life is great!!
Hi all
Well it's a good thing I posted before I went to bed this a.m. because here it is after 2:00 and am just making it to coffee! LOL
Okay Maria~ you *know* you're suppose to tell us what you're cooking tonight. No fair! I can't be there, but I *can* drool! :)
Sarv~ so sorry you can't get out in your garden today. I'll take a little of that rain. It sure did my plants a world of good on Sat. I put buckets out to catch some and have been using it to water. Seems the plants like it better than this crummy stuff out of the hose. I'm almost out, though.
Mary~ hope you have a nice ride. Sounds like you got some good bargains. I'd never have that kind of luck to find the matching candleholder after this length of time. Lucky you!!
Lauri~ so so sorry to hear about your poor Saulsa. Just remember what a wonderful life you have given him, though. It was so kind of you to take him in. I pray things will work out for him as long as he won't suffer.
M5~ glad to see Sammy is still going strong. LOL
The DH finally got our taxes done. It was *really* making me nervous. I'm not the type who likes to put things off till the last minute.
Had a nice chat with Defoe a bit ago, the house is clean and the laundry monster is dead for today ... so I'm going to get caught up on DG!! :)
... Elaine !
Hi folks,
If anyone remembers, last night I mentioned that my mother had bought me an Angel Food cake, which I like due to it's high protein, no fat, make-up; HOWEVER, not too long after I'd written that, DH came through the door carrying a big, fat NY Cheesecake. So much for all my good intentions! I'll put it on the counter when I get home tonight. You've all got to help me eat it or I'll need a whole new wardrobe by the time it's gone!
Sarv, I didn't mean that I'd actually paid for my own present --- just that I'm the one who writes out the checks to pay the bills for the household. I'd asked for something from the Vermont Country Store and sure enough, there it was on the charge card bill, so I knew he'd remembered this time.
Mary, hope your ride goes well this weekend. How's your back holding up?
Lauri, have my fingers crossed for Salsa, hope he'll be okay.
Kooger, I've been wondering about Kandyce as well. I think the last you mentioned, she had to go to the emergency ward with awful pain in her legs. Please don't leave us hanging here!
101, you'll probably enjoy this story. I know how much the squirrels have been driving you nuts and I'd said that I didn't mind them all that much, most of the time. Well, they have been going to town on that peanut butter suet --- so much so that I wasn't sure anybody else (except the starlings) was getting any of it. A couple of days ago I noticed a squirrel up on the bluebird diner, looking rather frazzled and irritated. It seems he couldn't figure any way to get in there (it was empty at the time anyhow and I don't think he'd have been interested in mealworms had there been any). Bright idea #204 ---- Gee, why don't I put some of the peanut butter in there for the bluebirds too? Why not? Because the bluebird diner is mostly made out of wood and has now been gnawed all round the entrances by sharp little rodent teeth --- that's why not! What was I THINKING?? Duh!
Maria, hope you have a lovely evening with your family tonight. I'm sure that they'll enjoy the four star meal that you cook up.
Vi-ann, loved the crocus picture. I've never seen that many all together before.
M5, thanks for the Sammi fix ---- he does look innocent, dosn't he? Too bad we all know better! My mother gave me an extra little gift yesterday, a book titled "How to Live With a Nuerotic Cat" Think she's trying to tell me something about Miss Miceus.
Bonnie, enjoy those hummers. They are beautiful little things, aren't they? I keep trying to attract them by planting things they're supposed to like, but they seem to prefer the weeds.
5 AM came way too early this morning. I'd been up using a nasal spray, trying to move some of the concrete that's taken up residence in my head and was just drifting off to sleep again when the dratted alarm went off. If I don't get back here today, you'll know that I crawled off to bed shortly after getting home. Can't wait!
Well, the sun was out all morning, then it clouded up, wind blew, and then the sun came out again, so no rain so far. After going to the chiro this morning, came home, started the tiller, and loosened the dahlia bed. I did go ahead and put them in the ground. So now, I need to pot up some of the tomatoes, and garden at my DM's and things will be in pretty good shape.
Am fixing fresh fish for supper, and DBIL is coming, not to sit and eat with us, but to get a plate and take home. Alright with me.
Have to get moving, as we are going to bible study tonight, so time will be close. I will check in later and comment.
This is for Elaine and I do not think it is four star, MCcool, I am on the prossess making stuffed with salmon pate flounders, haricot string beans with garlic,rosemary, basil and shallots, Risotto with mushrooms, Appetizer is shrimp with sauce
Dessert a tiramisy and coffee
Got to go to , just thought I take a five minute break
Sounds 4 star to me, Maria!
McCool - I LOVE cheesecake. Good thing it's virtual or I think I'd have to skipWeight Watchers next week. LOL
Was helping at the Food Cupboard today. VERY busy pre-Easter. Of course we are closed for the holliday on Friday. We ARE, however, open Easter Monday which is a sort of quasi holiday - no government services, or schools but the banks are open. Go figure. Most social service agencies operate on government hours; so many people THINK we are closed. It's generally pretty quiet.
Well, on to figure out what dinner will be. Want to attend a short 7 pm Lenten service. But we had our meeting on Monday; so the rest of the evening is free. Need to practice. Am playing piano quartets on Saturday and I have a bunch of music to look at as well as a complete orchestral program. And an easy obbligato as I'm playing with the choir at a Good Friday service on Friday morning. I've played that particular piece several times before, but I need to take a look at it anyway.
I'll try to check in later.
Ann
Hi everyone, I'm a little late, but did I smell cheesecake???
It was 72 here today so HUGE thanks to whomever sent us a few of their degrees.
Lauri-I'm so hoping for you that Salsa can be helped, prayers for you. This is a tough thing to have to face. I keep thinking about him all the time!
Ann-OMG you are busy as usual. Holidays aren't holidays for musicians are they?
Maria-Maybe even 5 star on the dinner!!
McCool-I'm here to help with the cheesecake!! LOL. It has to be my favorite "bad thing" to eat in the whole world!
Mary-Good luck on the ride! I hope you have a great time. I realized I'm pretty tired after about 10 miles, and that's without tons of trotting. So I am in awe of your endurance!
dcat-sound like you're feeling better these days, which is good. I wondered if you'd overdone it yet! Sounds like you're still going gangbusters. Our weather was wrong today, too, we didn't get the bad weather,. Right now it's very windy, so I guess it's the end of that.
m5-Sammi always looks like the perfect angel!! He's so cute there! Take pics of the fake rock project while you're doing it so we can see the process. It's a cool idea!
sarv-I had a tin dollhouse when I was a kid. I have since bought 3 or 4 at garage sales with all the plastic furniture.
Joyous-I would love to find a tin barn to go with my funky houses! I often think someday I'll make a weird 50's suburb Christmas display or something.
Okay I have to get going. I hope y'all are doing well, Elaine, Kelly, darius, Molly, Susan,suzieq, woodspirit and everyone!!
Dinners all done- scalloped potatoes with ham, beets, and jello with whipped cream BUT Maria's sounds much better, so I am going to eat with her too!! Maria, you sure cook 'glamorous' - what in the world are haricut green beans? Never heard of such a thing.
McC - I knew what you meant about the BD gift. I pay the bills here too - sometime that's a blessing and sometimes a curse.
Sun peeked out for about 30 min, then went under again. But the rain has stopped. Going out to take a garden walk.
Leave a piece of cheese cake on the counter for me will ya?
Thanks every one for all the good thoughts and prayers for Salsa....
Update on Salsa, the vet is causiouly optimistic that he may make it. He is using the foot a bit better and the cronary band abcess has opened and is draining. I spent half the morning down there. The vet laughed and said he eats like an elephant!! Yes ,I told him he's always had a great appitite....Well gotta think about something for dinner, and make a carrot cake with creamcheese frosting. Hi to all and hope you are'nt being soaked by the rain and are enjoying spring days....I get sun tomorrow and then more rain....Lauri
Oops, did I leave somebodies hanging? So sorry! I just now called her and had a chat. She feels good, once in a while has some leg pain, once in a while has some headaches but nothing really serious. Right now is having some trouble sleeping but maybe that's partly cuz she's feeling better but really can't do much so isn't getting very much activity. Pretty minor stuff! I got an email from a lady in the Ependy Group and she said reoccurrence is about 1 in a million in the US which is great news. And she also said that it was 2 years before she felt 100 per cent back to her old pre-tumor self. She's about 10 years older than Kandyce and has 3 children so I hope K. will feel back to her old self sooner than that. All in all, really good news!! :)
Ann- yes, I love almost all card games. Euchre will probably always be number one with me. Just love Spite and Malice too. I get bored with the easiest Spider Solitaire so then do the two deck one. I don't often win that one. One of my brother's in the 60 percent win range with the two deck. Grr! lol Another brother still will not play euchre with me. I beat him so often in high school that he still won't play. Ha Ha! We're a pretty competitive bunch with cards. We didn't have TV till I was in Gr. 10 and then only watched the news and we rode 3 hours on the bus everyday - lots of time to sharpen those card-playing skills!! lol
Everthing was fine forgot I made squash soup too servd with a dallop of sour cream
Sarv, 'Sarcots verts' are very, very slender green beans without seeds originally from France, they are, in my opinion better then regular green beans..the first time I had them was in California but we get them now here also.
Maria~ I sure hope you're satisfied! Will probably have to buy a new keyboard ... mine has drool *all* over it. LOL LOL Will you Dmail me your Risotto recipe? Bet yours is better than mine!!
We had pork tenderloin and brown rice with fresh herbs and shallots. Also had steamed asparagus. I love to take brown rice and brown in a bit of olive oil and tad of butter with garlic and shallots along with fresh herbs ... add chicken broth and white wine and cook until done. Lots better than a boxed rice dinner. :)
Now, please pass me that cheese cake!! LOL
Lauri~ so glad to hear Salsa is getting along better.
Well, I slipped off in here before I finished the kitchen. Will be back when I'm done. LOL
... Elaine
I mentioned something about someone I have known for awhile being charged with Child molestation. Well things are really mucky. They set bond at 50k then released him for $5,200.00. There is a screw in the works someplace. This arrest was about 4 days after There was a program on TV about some kids who said they were molested by a parent and then recannted after the parent had been in Prison for several years. Now nobody knows what is up but this guy had a prior marriage and they have a daughter 12 yrs old that I have known her whole life. I have not seen her in a couple of years. She is smart but was awful hard to make friends with all her life. Never smiled. I know it used to bother him some. Anyway him and his X are like gunpowder and matches. She has tried several times to get him charged with all sorts of stuff. She has been in trouble herself for skimming the cash registar at the Elks Lodge when she worked there. That doe not mean she was arrested. Her mother is the County Circuit Judge. I like everyone else am reserving my judgement till it all comes out. But the rumors are his X made this charge and they jumped the gun on the arrest because of her mother. Then his X went and reported it to the paper that he had been arrested on child molestation. Now if she did this she should be in a lot of trouble but bet you it wont happen and she will not be touched. Justice country style.
Oz, no matter what happens this guy will never get that black mark off his record. There are a lot of instances where exes will cause problems like this for their former mate. And people outside will never know the truth whether or not he is convicted or freed. It's too bad the court system is messed up by family connections, that is unfair.
Maria, you made a delicious dinner....I should have come to your house! I made an easy salad with chicken, spinach, shaved parmesan, tosted pignolis (pine nuts) and olives. It was nice and warm today, and the windows are still open. I had a big lunch, with peach shortcake for dessert so I had to behave at least a little for dinner. I can only find haricot vertes at the farmer's market in summer, and occasionally at one of the gourmet food stores. Otherwise in summer I pick my Blue Lake green beans when they are very young and thin. I might have a little space for cheese cake though......LOL
Kooger, thanks for the update on Kandyce, we were wondering. How's your nose tonight? Better I hope.
Yes, dmcd, Sammi can really look angelic. It was funny tonight. You know he's always chasing the girls and playing rough with them. Well, tonight he was sitting quietly by the kitty tunnel, minding his own business, when Souky came around the corner, spotted him, ran right up to him and knocked him over! Then she casually strolled away. He was so shocked, he just sat there! Almost like she was saying, "So, how do you like it when it happens to you??!!"
McCool, I've hung a hummer feeder out for the last several years. The last two years, I get one little fella, and that's it. Too many flowering plants around for them to be interested in my sugar water. My sis gets dozens, sounds like a bee hive with them outside her window. I'm not even going to try this year. Now watch, that poor little guy will come back and find nothing.
~~~~ Dianne, Dcat, Darius, Laurie, Sarv, Elaine, oh, heck, everybody, it's so busy in this kitchen I can't even see everyone. Time for bed. I'm getting goofy.
Say good night Gracie......
Sheila
Ha Sheila ... would have *loved* to see the look on Sammy's angelic face when that happened to him! LOL Oh, and will you please fix me one of those salads tomorrow for lunch? I think I'm gonna just quit cookin and make my rounds with Darius around the country visiting. LOL LOL Seems like everyone's eating mighty fine these days!!!
Oz ... that's so so terrible about that family. I sure hope they can get to the bottom of it, but I suspect Meezers is right. That black mark will probably follow that poor guy around.
Mary ... sure hope you have a good time on your trip. Be careful and do stay safe. :)
Carol~ am thinking about you special tonight.
Kooger~ that's marvelous about Kandyce. Please tell her we all asked about her. :)
Hi Defoe~ those fish sure sounded great. Whew, you make me tired just thinking about all you do! :)
Well, think it's past time for my bath so I'll go for now. Might check back in if these eye lids don't get too heavy. Waving to everyone just in case I don't make it back. ~~~
Hi All,
Just wanted to pop in and say hi,,,,it was a killer day in the Salon today, by the time my last customer came in, I could hardly stand my shoes anymore,,,LOL I wear orthotics in my shoes and the left one is really hard to get out of a shoe. It has a mortons extension on it,,,,which means it's (I think) titanium and Won't bend.
Anyway,,,my legs and feet have been swelling so much, I got my way too big garden shoes out when I was working outside Sun. and Mon. and put my orthotics in them,,,and now they're tight,,,that's how much I'm swelling. I forgot how uncomfortable they are even with the orthotics in them. I didn't have time to change the orthotics to different shoes so I wore the bad shoes all day. Jeepers,,,my feet were burning by the time I got done working tonight.
Well, enough complaining. Hope everyone has a good day tomorow. I'll have another busy day in the Salon,,,,it's a good thing,,,LOL
Kelly
Well, it has been a sunny glorious day. I just love it when I am able to be out and about, and play in the dirt, whether I accomplish any thing or not. Did get the dahlia bed tilled, and the dahlias planted.
Oz, that sounds like a confusing situation. If I were you, and this person is a friend, I would reserve any judgement, until the whole story is told. Sometimes, the vindictiveness of an ex can cause all kinds of problems. However, the child you describe sure sounds like there are things that need to be brought to light. They guy we had in the neighborhood that was a child molester was a very personable person,and seemed to be well liked, as his family has been in the community for years. I always thought it odd that he never married, but had an interest in having children from low income families stay with him for extended periods of time. His down fall, was from a former child that he had taken in, and when he turned 18, made the accusations, and after investigation, and interviews with children who had been in his home, was charged, arrested and convicted. So you can never tell. I do hope that before all is said and done, that a thorough investigation is done, and that the facts support the charges.
M5, that is so funny. Sometimes animals will bully others, and then the tables turn. My Mr B, who is all of 10 " tall will often try to take on a male beagle who is 3 times his size. Mr. B, thinks big, but hasn't been exposed to any mirrors in his lifetime!! About the hummers, last summer I had 8 feeders various places in my yard, and it was downright dangerous sometimes just to be outside. Although I have plants that they like, they seem to like the ease of the feeders to supplement their diets.
101, sounds like you are no slouch in the kitchen either. Your meal sounds equally delicious. BTW, enjoyed our chat today.
Kooger, that is good news about Kandice. If all she is experiencing is the headaches and leg pain, sounds like she is doing good. Youth heals well and quickly, so I imagine this time next year, this will all be a dim memory. I sincerely hope so. As to card games, I suck!! I can't keep all those suits, cards in my head, and I surely don't have a "poker face". I am a more visual person, and can solve any puzzle, if I can see it. I used to love to work jigsaw puzzles, but I don't have the room here to have one in progress out all the time.
lauriewilson, the prognosis is sounding better. If he is still eating well, it can't all be bad. I have him in my prayers. Used to think that praying for animals was silly, but then reasoned that they are "gods creatures" too, and I am sure that he hears our prayers for them also.
dmc, Yes, I am fine. I am working, but I don't think I am overdoing it at all. I wish I was closer to each one of you, when I got done with my garden work, I could come and help you with yours. I just love to be outside and enjoy all of Gods wonders.
Sarv, your dinner sounds good to me. I love scalloped potatoes, and would have them more often, but then I think of all the calories that I could use somewhere else.
McCool, I will volunteer, reluctantly to help get rid of the cheesecake. I am not much on desserts, and seldom make any, but if I have a favorite, CHEESECAKE is it. DH is supposed to watch the sweets, as he is borderline diabetic, and he loves sweets of any kind. So to help him out, I do not make desserts, and seldom have them in the house.
Maria that certainly is a 5 ***** meal. I am sure that your family looks forward to your Wednesday night dinners, and eagerly anticipates them. Any dinner I didn't have to fix could be classified as 5 star!!
Darius, did you get anything done to the freezer? I sure hope that it can be repaired, and that you didn't lose much.
I do have to schedule a day,when I clean my freezers. I have 3, plus the one on top of the fridge. So if famine strikes the US, please come to my house, if you have the money to buy gas, and we can eat for a long time on what is in there!!
Well, have an early dentist appointment in the morning, just to get the braces tightened. So while I am out will do the weekly grocery shopping. DGD's birthday was last Friday, and she has reqested that we have a hamburger cook out this week end to celebrate her birthday. I will bake her a cake, and we will celebrate a week late. Her dad is taking her to a go cart park on Saturday, which is something else she requested. DH is going to look at a horse tomorrow morning for her. She wants a quarter horse, but we are trying to talk her into a Tennessee Walker or a Standard bred.
Well, I am off to bed. As the alarm will ring way too soon for me in the morning. DH is plannning a fishing trip, to a near by lake. So I am sure that he will be up and ready to go early too.
Everybody have a good restful night.
Oh, GG, there is nothing worse than aching feet. Someone once said the most comfortable shoe is God's shoe. And I take advantage of it on a daily basis. I go barefoot 3/4 of the year. Even gardening, I am barefoot, or at the most, have on flip flops, or being really safety conscious, a ratty pair of tennis shoes!!. I can't stand to be outside with shoes, and then get dirt in them. So when that happens, they are immediately shed, and there I am in all my shoeless glory. Glad to hear that the salon will be busy again tomorrow, but for heaven's sake put on comfortable shoes!!
Goodnight all.
Thank you for your kind comments about my dinner but I like all of yours , though I like to cook there is nothing like sitting down at a friends table and eat what ever there is no matter how humble it may be
I am ready for bed, Samson has been sleeping now for an hour, he was very naughty tonight, my SIL put new ink in my computer, and would you believe Samson grabed the box with the ink still in it and took of like a rocket running all over the yard and would not listen to anyone to stop, he thought he put one over on us, lol, finally John got a tennis ball, well, that did it, my DD could not stop laughing it really was funy now that I think of it
Good night all, sleep well
dcat,
I will be changing my orthotics to my other pair of shoes tonight.,,,LOL
Maria,
That must have been such a hoot,,,I would have peed my pants from laughing so hard,,,,ROFLOL,,,Thanks for that Samson story,,,I needed that laugh.
Good night All
Kelly
Oh my goodness ... that Samson is such a *mess*!! LOL He sure makes me want to give him a hug! I can just see him running with that box in his mouth with that big ole grin saying ... y'all catch me if you can!! LOL
Maria, sure wish you were close enough to sit a spell. Now wouldn't we have a good time while the kids played!! You know you always have a place at my table ... and Kota said she has an extra bed! :)
Kelly, tell Bill to rub those poor tootsies for you as a belated birthday present. Maybe that would help? Sure hope they'll feel better tomorrow!
Y'all all sleep tight, Okay?
Oh, Susan ... I always miss saying hi to you cause you're the last. Hope you aren't overdoing. I know ... you've been getting *plenty* of lectures. You don't need any from me. LOL How are the kitties doing? You been rescueing anymore animals lately? Anyway, you better behave ... you got your trip coming up now, remember?
Okay, I'm going to bed.
... elaine
I wanted to post a picture of my azaleas to make up for my downer post yesterday. How can you be unhappy with a flower like this?. LOL
Samson is great! he knows how to make people happy doesn't he?
defoe, I used to NEVER wear shoes, now I have neuopathy in my feet and I can't stand to walk on carpet because it feels like glass, or on a smooth surface where my feet might stick to it, it feels like you are peeling the skin off. It is the most horrible thing I have ever had. The funny thing, although everyone thinks it is because of the diabetes it isn't.
It is from damaged nerves in my lower back and that causes the same effect as diabetes. Unfortunately there is no cure and I have to use a narcotic cream at night to get the pain level down so I can sleep. With all the work I have been doing lately, my back is killing me and it goes right down to the feet. So that is what I was talking about when I said my feet were barking. More like burning screaming and yelping. LOL
Now I said I wasn't gonna do that again. ROFLOL
Enjoy the azalea. :)
Susan
=^..^=
I almost forgot about the daily too....LOL
