Request for a new midwest (MO & KS, etc.) forum

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

I would like to see a Central Midwest forum. Since MO has nearly 2000 members by itself, and Kansas doesn't seem to fit in anywhere else either I think we could make one successful. Perhaps Arkansas and Oklahoma would fit in too. I haven't noticed if they are already in one.

How can just members vote if only subscribers can get into or even 'see' this forum? I've contacted a couple people and told them to do the Contact Us route to vote. I hope this isn't against some rule.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Eva, non-subscribed members can't participate in the process to request a new forum. (Those who don't help support the site financially can't get to this forum, and we don't really give them a "say" in whether we create another forum.) However, you can contact subscribed members in these states, and ask them to voice their opinion. Do you know how to narrow down your member search to subscribers only? If not, let me know and I'll be happy to show you some pointers.

I think okla. is left out should be in one we are close to Texas, mo., ark.,kan. la.. just six here be huge one. Not asking just noticing..

Texas has a forum (it was our first regional forum) and Louisiana would probably head to the Mid-South forum (at least for now - at some point, they and the other gulf coast states may request a Deep South forum.)

Arkansas could go either toward the Mid-South forum or this one, if there are enough interested to make a go of it.

This forum would probably target Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri, although others may choose to join in (no one asks to see your driver's license to gain entry to a state or regional forum ;o)

Thanks Terry. I had no idea what a can of worms I was opening when I went to the map and e-mailed all of the members in the state with names beginning with M-Z. I am going to contact subscribers and ask them if they are interested.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Just for the record - Over in the Texas forum we do have some Okies, and several even come to our plant swaps. Several of us in there are from Oklahoma or have family ties back to Oklahoma - so any Okies are more then welcome in the Texas forum - and some of us Okies living in Texas will no doubt be heading to the new forum to post to if there are a lot of Okie things on there.

Just my two cents!

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

This would be most helpful - might include Iowa and Illinois.

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

Thanks, Kay & Mitch. We need all the positive feed back we can get. I don't mind at all if Iowa, Illinois, Arkansas and Oklahoma are included. We could call it the Tornado Belt forum. LOL

I'm in the process of contacting al SUBSCIBERS in MO right now and will move on to the other surrounding states in the next week or so. I've learned to copy and paste so it's mostly just a form letter going out.

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

I would love to see a central midwest forum, there is an upper midwest one, but I feel like I don't quite fit there, since I am in Southwest Missouri, I am not really upper midwest.

Meade, KS(Zone 6a)

I also would like to see a midwest forum. Each region has it's own particular weather and growing idiosincracies, so focusing on regions helps one learn how to deal with them....Janetlee50

Just checking in to say I am interested.

I was looking for this region's forum, now I know why I couldn't find it. ☺

Kansas and Missouri have similar weather traits, until you get to western Kansas (high plains) Having lived in southern Colorado, I would encourage a separate forum for those with the semi-arrid conditions that exist. I would be interested in a mid west, ie, Kansas, Missouri type forum. When we moved from Southern Colorado I didn't realize fully the impact of higher humidty and warmer nights on my garden. We not only deal with zone differences for temperatures..but the impact of humidity. What we struggled to grow in Colorado does wonderful in mid-Kansas. By the same standards, I can't grow the types of peppers that did well in Colorado. I guess it all boils down to how many "individual weather pattern forums" we are willing to participate in and encourage.

I'm in St. Louis and would love to see a midwest forum. Sure hope we get one. Pleeeeeesssee!!!!

I would enjoy a mid-western forum also.

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Me too...me too! I would love that forum!

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

Thank you so much everyone for the support. I'll continue to contact subscribers in MO, KS, OK, and maybe AR to let them know what we are requesting & hope they will join in. We do indeed have different weather patterns here in Tornado Alley.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

I'll say,it was 96* in Wichita kansas today,breaking the old record 0f 89*
