Hey John, So good to see you back again!!!!

awesome pictures......

Wish you'd been around last spring
that BOP pup you sent me bloomed
It was soooo awesome!!!!!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

LOL John am I seeing correctly that that you braved moving back to Florida???? Glad to see you posting. I haven't been on much between health and recovering from the loss of everything in Katrina. Once you live near the ocean/rivers it is hard to move away and stay away. It just gets in your blood. We only moved 18 miles north to the country where we are high and dry and boy to I mean dry with only 2" of rain since last August. It is going to be a new growing experience for me. Very happy to hear you are coming to the Florala swap. If you have any brugs to share I need anything you can spare lol. Ruby has volunteered to drive us there in my truck. See you soon (((HUGS)))

Greenback, TN(Zone 7a)

Hi CC.. !! LOL To this day when I see a Versi blooming I think of you and I withone on as a hat! I'm so glad that BOP bloomed for you :) Sending nanna's to upstate New York was a trip! But you did it!

DonnaB no Prob! It you do not mind fresh cuttings? I have not been well this winter and most of the rooted starts I did for the swap just well did not do well! I never moved out of FL just put of the way of the canes 3 in a row did it for me! But your right I need to be near the water too. I have protected wetlands as my backyard now and you would love all the birds I have around my new place : ) We have to many to list. I do not have many named Brugs anymore as I love the seedlings and they take up so much room!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

That is so great you got to take so much to Ludger. I wish you could bring as much back. Especially that variegated double pink. LOL

I am never bored by other people's pictures. I would love to go to Germany, my grandmother was from Germany. But I hate to fly so pictures will have to do.

So is that where you sat and ate German pound cake? LOL Looks so lovely. I see an abutilon, one of my plant loves. Do you remember what that small flowered plant with PINK blooms is to the right of the abutilon was?

Oh Donna, we are getting all of your rain. We are having terrible mudslides all over too. I am so hoping no one gets trapped in their house if a hillside goes.

Greenback, TN(Zone 7a)

Kell, I'm not sure that garden is pretty big and full of all sorts of wonderful things! That area of the garden is in the center of the garden itself near her starting house (I think it's used for family) and the cake, coffee and WINE area is near the farmhouse where she conducts her sales and such. Toward the back of the garden are rows and rows of well kept seedlings... I know, it stinks to not be able to bring anything back but I'm just not going to deal with the hassle and I'm perfectly happy growing seeds! I did bring back a block of stinky cheese from Holland last trip I just tossed out the other day if that counts?
I hate to fly too : ( Now if I was in 1st class MAYBE it would not be so bad! lol

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You tossed it out?? I hope it wasn't my fav Limburger. LOL. I grew up on Limburger, talk about stinky cheese. My Mom would serve it with liverwurst and rye with a mound of onions. Oh I haven't had that for a very long time. I may have to have it on Monday. My Mom will have been dead 1 year then. I know she would love to have some too. Thanks for reminding me of this.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I too, love rye bread/limburger cheese/has to have slices of onion on it!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am now panicking that I won't find some limbuger, I haven't seen it in so long. Does your regular grocery store carry it, Gloria? I remember my mother had to wrap it so many times so the fridge would not stink. LOL.

Marysville, WA(Zone 8a)

Kell if you drive to one of the ritzier neighborhoods in your area & try one of those big fancy grocery stores where normal people can't afford to shop, they always have it.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I get it in a jar/lid, so smell doesn't drive me out of the house!

Greenback, TN(Zone 7a)

ewwwwwwwwwwwww! LOL

It was aged Gouda and hard as a rock! I never did find out what in the world you were to do with it?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Maybe grate it? LOL. Now you need to try limbuger, John.

Oh Gloria, I have never seen it in a jar but what a smart way for them to pack it. It was a rectangle in a thin cardboard box.

Gee Tom are you implying I do not live in the ritzier neighborhood? LOL. I am kidding, I shall go take a look. THANKS

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

LOL John I thought you had moved to Tennessee when you sold your house

Greenback, TN(Zone 7a)

Kell I have ..gag.. it's not toooooooooo bad with a VERY strong red wine to kill the aftertaste! LOL

I've seen it packed in foil and jars...

Back to Brugs here's a sister to (FI Rachel) I named it (FI Jewel ) The nice thing about it is it grows a full sized flower on a dwarf plant (never taller then 4 foot) It repeat blooms like mad and the color is very nice in person.

Greenback, TN(Zone 7a)

DonnaB I thought about it bad but the lack of salt in the air made me wonder! LOL Hey there was a fiddler crab in my GH today! ; )

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

The limburger talk (and the mere mention of Gouda too) is making me HUNGRY!
I love cheese almost as much as I do brugs, lol.
I worked for years in a specialty cheese shop, and I am addicted. I personally like the limburger/onion sandwiches with pumpernickle. I also love gorgonzola (which my husband, who is Italian, swears smells like stinky socks, not unlike Limburger.) Right there next to Reggiano Parmigian...the Gold Standard of cheese...expensive by the pound, but trust me, worth every penny.

LoveBrug, your stories of Germany are awesome...I can only dream of going back, such friendly and beautiful people I met there, and to see these gardens in person, well... it is like paradise to me.
Your photos are so inspiring, especially as we had snow and light hail today. Your love and work is evident..thank you for sharing.

Jackie

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

John: Love your Fl. Jewel! I like little plants with big blooms, or any blooms at all, for that matter.

Funny you would mention "stinky socks" Jackie, this is exactly what I thought Limburger Cheese smells like, but I love it. Guess I have to put onion slices on the sandwich to be able to eat it.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

LOL Gloria, stinky but delicious!

I must agree...the any blooms at all...it's me!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

It's great to see some of the previous members posting again. I haven't been online much lately because my dormant lot is not very interesting. Just trying to keep them going until spring. They are all out of the gh now and in a protected area where they don't get too much sun/wind/cold whatever the case may be from day to day. I have quite a few seedlings that were started in Aug-Sep and most of them made it through the winter, now I'm anxious to see what they do this summer. It will be some time before I have a bloom to post but I do love to see what others are doing.

CC, I saw that a lady who had given cpr to her chicken was going to be on Leno. I wondered if it was you but I went to sleep before it came on.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

CPR to a chicken?? That's as bad as when my biology teacher giving CPR to a frog!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Nope
I don't go THAT far
although I did wrap one the was too cold in all my heating pads
She still didn't make it though.......

Cpr on one of my birds .....
It would have to be a REALLY special bird.....LOL
Wonder if .......naw
never mind....LOL

John
forgot to tell you
I actually had bananas on one of my nana plants
Not one you sent
(still working on those)
It was one that I had started from seed......
That really freaked me out

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

You guys are a hoot. From stinky cheese to cpr on chickens.... LOL.... Sure helps pass the time while I'm house bound with a stomach bug.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Florida Jewel is gorgeous, as is the name. A low calyx is a favorite trait of mine. Looks like you have a yard full of fancy PINK there, John!

Linda, I assume the chicken made it? CC, I posted a pic of one of your walkway chicks on the rose forum yesterday. Hope that was OK. We were talking fancy birds. You should see Sebastopol geese. So beautiful too!

Oh Kristi, sorry you are feeling sick. Hope you bounce back soon!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Kell
I have 2 Sebastopol....
one is laying eggs in my garden
Not sure if the other is a male or female....LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

That is too cool , CC. They are just beautiful. I bet Easter is so nice in your yard with all your pretty chicks. Is it too early for flowers then?

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

Ya, I love Fire Island Jewel, too. Nice form and I love how the calyx comes down low. Could only be more perfect if it were orange!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Carter, lets not fight over this! Lets insist John grow one in orange for you and I will keep the PINK one. LOL

CC, I forgot to comment on your bananas. I am so impressed. You know I still haven't gotten any bananas and look at my zone next to yours. You put me to shame. So how long from seed to banana??

Greenback, TN(Zone 7a)

CC that's a feat to do from seed in any zone.. Hey did anyone see the dog with no front legs that the owners taught to walk? Almost as fun as Fowl CPR!

anyway Carter I wish it was Fire Island! It's Fleming Island it's sortof a yucky yuppie sub of Jacksonville : ( I cannot even think what a house on Fire Island would sell for now ? Key West has gone over the top too.
Kell I think I had about 80 seedlings last year and only kept about five or so and feel it was a pretty good deal : ) I have about that many started for this year and can not do over 100 it's just not possible for me to keep up with that many. Now maybe if I get that 30 gallon power sprayer you pull behind a tracker ? hummm??

The promo for the Leno show showed the lady and a chicken, so I suppose the cpr worked. I'm really sorry I didn't stay awake for the story.

John, I think it was you that sent me Little Monkey x unknown seeds last year. I have about 20 of them that I can't wait to see what they do this year. I'm really trying to keep things under control this year. Last year I had way too many to care for properly. (has anybody ever told you that these are not low maintenance plants??)

Greenback, TN(Zone 7a)

Linda oh yes very low! LOL They have produced some beautiful oranges! I was a snob at the time and did not like the ? lol see what that get's ya!

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

LOL, John, I knew it didn't sound right when I typed it, but yet it still seemed so right!

Ok, Kell, but ONLY if he promises!

Linda, yes, take good care of those babies!! That cross has produces some incredible oranges with some peaches, and yellows! In fact, someone else only got 3 whites out of over 20 seedlings so far of the same seed (I'm guessing it's the same batch).

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL, is little monkey a brug? I thought you were talking about a flower called monkey something that is low to the ground. I can't think of the name this moment. What a fun name for a brug. Anyone have a pic?

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Kell, as I understand it, Klein Aap translates to Little Monkey (I could be wrong ------ again)

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

That's right Linda. We really have gotten into the bad habit of translating the name - since it is a proper name, we should be calling them 'Klein Aap' crosses. But 'Little Monkey' is SO much more fun! ;^)

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

I think so too. Can't wait to see what they do. I'm putting them in the ground TODAY!!

Brookhaven, PA(Zone 6b)

John, I did not realize FI Rachel was soo dark. Gorgeous!!

I have a seedling of Charleston x Kaskade that is also a double. I can only hope that it has color! It first bloomed for me in November last year, and is growing like gangbusters now. The Y did not die back, and is already outside with temps down to 36 and seems all the more stronger for it.

No more frost warnings here!

Can't wait to see you in 2 weeks!!!

Greenback, TN(Zone 7a)

Paul, Hold on to it! I took two seasons for the color to come out in (FI Spider) even if it IS the same cross as DESIREE it is 100% not like that hybrid, Huge leaves, grows like a weed and blooms it's head off! Plus the flower took on it's Father's size... I hope yours is like mine and will not spot when water hits it like Creamsickle the only other double that colors of this size that I know of here in the USA.
The Swap will be great as always! I just luv Pam and Tom the hosts!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

Hello, John. Nice to meet you. Your brugs are incredibly delicious looking. I will be lurking to hopefully catch many more pics and info.
