Cool....healthy lookin' plant too.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Got my first brug at the CS RU in april. Can't wait until mine blooms!

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Sheila
I was never all that interested until I saw one that was several years old covered w/ flowers! Wow. Many folks have them planted in their yards around here and they are pretty. Will see how mine do. Easy to root also.
Deb I might convert you!

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

convert me? to brugs? or coyote zen?

I got some red brug seeds from somebody--but BettyD said they take about three years to bloom--I'm not sure I want to wait that long..lol

And I hate to have to take 'heroic' measures to save plants in the winter...Seems like they always got me working overtime when cold snaps hit. I'm refusing to do anything extra next year at work--I'm getting to old to work constantly...

Keeping up with the fireants is hard enough for me.

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

All I can say is that my old mother doesn't bother to drag her brug pot in and yes it freezes back but always comes back and blooms- I think putting the pot in a semi protected area is the key!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I guess I need to get on the brug forum and find out what the best way is to keep them upright.

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

What? Don't they just grow that way?

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Doesn't your mom live in California?
;)

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Well yes, but she lives in a part that is not really nice- LOL that's funny- you know you could think slums or ghetto but that's not what I meant; she lives in the desert -or is that dessert -and has weather as bad as ours although not as humid.
it must be late and I must be tired, or I am really, really funny! I just can't stop chuckling
;-)

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I stay up later and later these days. Early evening is as early as I can work outside--already too hot in the am by the time I get up.

I do have some plumeria I'm going to start--now that's easy--yank em' up put them in a closet for the winter.

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Yeah that is easy, ok the thought of filling my closet - or better yet, you filling your closet w/ all these little sticks is striking me as pretty funny- time for a shower and bed before I get hysterical!

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Ya'lls 'Green Zebra' and 'Black Prince' cuttings look really good today--hardly even wilting.

And my rangoon creeper looks oh so happy to be released from 'tomato bondage'. lol

I've got to get that other group out tonight--the garbage cans were all full for today's trash pick up. I bet these guys hate me--they are alwyas heavy and full of yard stuff. Last week they ran one over with the truck--think they are trying to tell me something? Robin just stuck her foot in there and 'popped' it back into shape again--its filled with tomato plants now. They shouldn't complain--it's much lighter than it usually is...lol

Thanks, Debbie,
Looks like another weekend project coming soon.

Would have expected you to turn those old matervines into more mulch.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Kind of afraid to with tomato diseases and all--well what do you know..the garbage guys didn't run over my cans today. They must have appreciated me lightening the load.

Okay, I have a new horror story. I just moved into this house, and of course there are fire ants -- it's southeast Texas! I went into the back bedroom to get the camera to take some pictures of some new gourds, and what did I see but A FIREANT MOUND ON THE INSIDE WINDOW SILL!!!!!! Geez Louise! I went ballistic. The people who had lived there before had added a layer of sod out back and it just gave the little buggers a ladder to the siding (it's brick everywhere but in the back) and they'd built up from the ground all the way into the house. I probably soaked whatever's under the siding but I got them. Of course, they got me, too -- hands and ankles are itching like crazy. But their home is destroyed. Muah ha ha...

Now I need to find someone who will come out and remove the sod. I'm aching from having pulled sod up by the roots and the roots went down about a foot since they'd just added it on the top of the old sod. I guess I'm madder at the ants than at the people who did the sod, but I'm not sure. At least the ants were just doing what ants do. The people were morons.

Ah, the joys of home ownership.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Well this little suburban visitor makes the fire ants look tame.

I'll take possums over fire ants ANY day!!

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm not big on rodents myself...

Missouri City, TX

We had a family of them under our neighbors deck for several years. Not much problem - except when the dogs saw them and barked - had to bring the dogs in at night so we and the neighboorhood could sleep.

Surprised you saw it in the daylight.

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

I wonder if we can teach them to eat ants.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

excellent idea Brigid--after he cleans me out we can send him down the street....
:)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

He is probably there feasting on your tomatoes! Strange seeing it in the daytime though. Usually late in the evening or before sunrise. Not sure if they can be rabid, I would call your local animal control, if so they can trap it.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Possums can't be rabid.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

That's a relief--an oppossum is a marsupial, right? Only mammals can have rabies? That's interesting....

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

I got curious, so I Googled about the possum and rabies.
It seems that any animal can get rabies, but it is extremely
rare in possums. Nobody knows why, but they think that
because a possums body temperature is anywhere
from 94 to 97 degrees, the virus has a difficult time
multiplying or even surviving; however, it can happen.

The key thing to watch for is "erratic behavior."
Well, how the heck would we know what is "normal"
for a possum LOL

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

That's good to know--although I found it a bit erratic for him/her to be in my back yard.

Once there was a black cat napping in my turk's cap and it suddenly came charging out when I was weeding about 20' away early this spring. That raised my heartbeat for a while too. But at least I figured there weren't any rats back there. lol

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok I know that many of you probably had them as pets when you were kids, but they are ugly little buggers and I have seen them growl and bare teeth and trust me I wouldn't want to be anywhere near their mouths! YIKES!

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

RATS! Did somebody mention rats~ I haven't picked up more cayenne pepper, been busy, but will be doing it this weekend at the latest!

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Well its good to hear from you April--been 'underground' this week? lol

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Working. Finished up the job and submitted the final invoice! Always good to finish. Not bad for 14 hours total both of made 500.00 after taxes (state sale and use) & cost. If I could do that 4 or 5 times in month I'd be able to pay for my own plant addiction!

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

always good to make money--busy spending it here....like like to keep the economy moving.

As I clean up the last 3 months of my life out of my living room--keep finding bills. I need a personal assistant. I'd rather go to work than do housework. I wonder what that says about me....I can waste time better than anyone I know.

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

I think that a clean house is a sign of insanity. That's the way that I rationalize it anyway!

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Then you'll feel right at home here--real people definately live here....lol

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

that's good I'd hate to feel uncomfortable!
Here's your baby

Also have the cutting of the yellow RE

Oh nice! Now I'll have to expand that bed won't I?

Amazing how I can find ANYTHING other than housework to do...

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

There are times when I am just way to busy to do anything inside, for weeks on end!

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

It seems like this week I haven't gotten much accomplished either inside or out. Of course today I spent about 3 hours trying to get a seed order made...and didn't get it finished. Some things just have to be done now, I can't do it in the fall when I need the seeds.

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Somebody, please - What on earth does
Cayenne pepper have to do with rats?
I can't figure this one out.

Aprilwillis, I know just where you are coming from.
I've been known to be busy like that for months.
My old neighbor used to literally tear her house
apart and clean every Saturday. She made her
kids tear up their rooms too. On the day her
husband left her for some gal on his bowling
league, my neighbor's house was spotless.
