I am number # for a change. Technically anyway. We are having thunderstorms, and DGD is very frightened. So DH volunteered to go to bed with her for awhile. So I am resigned to the spared bedroom, which doesn't have a very comfortable mattress. Anyway, have had a great day, and want to thank all of you for the birthday wishes. This may be the best birthday, I have had for sometime.

Good night all.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Well, I am up MUCH later than usual, although I did have a nice nap on the couch earlier. My sister was supposed to come tomorrow (actually today since it's past midnight) with a friend with a truck to get my freezer. She called me at 6 pm to say they would be here tonight instead. Turns out it was a convoy of her car, her friend's truck and another truck with a trailer.

They totally emptied out my storage unit, and here at the house loaded ALL my tools and a few misc. items. I still have lots of personal stuff here like pots & pans, baking stuff, clothes, computer & table, garden hoses, birdfeeders, etc. and 3 shelving units that held all my tools. Plus a few plants, of course.

I guess it will take me 2 trips in my mini truck to get the rest moved to her house soon. BUT, she wants it all in one place for movers for when when we find a place together. Since she's paying the bill, I have no room for complaints.

Well, I do have a complaint, LOL. I had them take my desk chair since it doesn't easily fit in my truck so I'm sitting on one of my folding lawn chairs now. Feels VERY strange to sit so low, and not swivel!

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Morning all - eating pizza as I type. Never finished it for dinner last night and it sounded decent this morning, so gobble up!! I'm in a funk - we've had gorgeous weather - the kind where you don't have to wear a coat...anyhow, now it is back to crappy cold and dreary again. Sends me into the dumps... Plus I raked the debrie off one bed and I found a ghastly amount of creeping jennie or charlie...it has taken over!! I don't know how in the world I am going to get it out of the beds.

Molly - cold showers - brrr Think I'd stink instead.. Bet you can't wait to get home- there's no place like it when you've been away for some time. I think you will be surprised to see all the growth in your absence! (weeds too LOL)

DR, glad the transfusion worked miracles for your dad. I opened a tub or dahlia tubers and found major rot - I am so disgusted - I thought I was being so efficient this year -labeling everything. Usually I just throw them in a heap and label them tall or short. I had done them by name and color and height. Now they are just all going in the compost heap and I will try to salvage what I can. Live and learn I guess..I can't find any tuber sales around her, except for ones at the big box stores. I will have to hit them this year!

Maria- now what happens to the cut threw wire? Oh I would have been ticked too- especially when you told them. I remember once we had a guy come take a soil sample for a new drain field. He augers right into our power/phone cord to the barn - with 2 acres to drill - how he picked that spot I'll never know. He went a flying, the tool he was using was melted and I was fried... took months to get it repaired and our phone to the barn goes kafooey everytime it gets moisture in the ground.

9Kit- that is funny about the dog...our crazy cat meanders over to our neighbors and lays in front of their slider, taunting their two cats. She won't let them outside - chases them around until they go back in. The neighbors leave their slider cracked so the cats can come and go. Our cat saunters in their house often to check things out. I am so embarassed at what she does, but they are good friends and just laugh at it.

Speaking of dogs - we have new neighbors across the road that let their two dogs out without leashes. I have to plan my trip to the mailboxes when they are inside. Very annoying- they race over and try to nip me- I am frightened of them, so I only venture out there when I can be sure they are gone. DH has a stick for me to take with me....he won't go either!! LOL

No big plans for today>>>>just the usual house pick up stuff>

hi to everyone else - hope you all have a fun day!!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Good Morning Darius and Sarv and all of you that follow or you who beat me to this.
Went to bed about 1 AM and slept till 6:30. Fed Samson and threw balls for him when suddenly the Canada geese down at the pond started alarmingly honking their heart out, they are probably having uninwanted company invading their domain. Now my neighbors beagle is howling to keep in tune, he is only a puppy and i hope he never comes up here, Samson would make a toy out of him.
He fixed the wire, Sarv, I just hope it stays fixed, but I am still weary of it.

I think I told you I bought some earth boxes, now I have to get some Miracle grow to fill them, have been reading the thread about EB, there is another one called Jungle growth but do not know if I can find that around here.
Right now it is 55' but cloudy, suppose to get rain tonight and tomorrow, we need it, had very little over the last two months.

I printed out some of my recipes will put them in sheet protectors then into a binder with tabs, it willl keep me busy on rainy days.

see you later

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Oh, I meant to show you a photo of my daughter and Samson
Here it is

Another one, you can see how how big Samson is

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Good morning all! Gray and gloomy here, but the wind has died down at last, so it is calm. If it doesn't rain, I'm going to try to uncover some of the hosta and see what's coming up. Supposed to be warm. We'll see.

The greenhouse survived the air travel, good thing I hadn't put anything in it yet. The plastic is quite heavy, so I don't think there was any real damage.

Who has the creeping charlie? Get out the vegetation killer that kills everything, you can't dig out that stuff, nothing will get rid of it aside from total annihilation. It spreads like crazy. DS had some in his old yard, and fought with it until he finally just killed everything in the area.
If you rescue perennials, you have to make sure there's no little roots or pieces or it starts all over again.

Sarv, did you try the squirt bottle on those pesty dogs? A little dash of ammonia or dish detergent in water will convince them that you are not to be bothered. Use the kind with the nozzle that adjusts to shoot a stream of fluid. They may still come and bark at you, but they won't come near after a couple of showers. And it won't damage them, it will just irritate their eyes.

Enjoyed Menopause the Musical very much. We laughed all the way through. The singers were excellent, belting out the parodies, and dancing. DIL has been battling a sinus infection all week so it was a good break for her now that her meds have finally kicked in. DS drove us down, and picked us up afterwards so we didn't have to park and walk. The entire downtown Xway system is torn up, and it's just a big mess.

Looks like a busy weekend, and I want to get started so I'm just going to ~~~ at everyone and get off this chair, make some breakfast and go see what else blew away in the gale. Hope everyone slept as well as I did last night, and all the recuperating or ailing have a good day, and nobody got hard frost on their tender shoots.

Sheila

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Maria, he is enormous! He's grown since you got him. I see he kept his new big chew bone close by! We must have posted at about the same time! Very nice pictures.

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

hi everyone! It's sunny still, we're supposed to get rain later. It was 75 yesterday!! I hauled Jared up to the farm and rode by myself for a few hours, exploring. It was just a spectacular day, if I had a job i would have had to call in sick. or maybe well, since I felt as good as I ever had with all that sun! The birds are making such a racket, and all my daylilies seem to have survived. does it get any better?

Maria-Samson is huge!

m5- I hope to get to Menopause the Musical, need to look up the schedule for where it's near enough..it sounds like fun

I need to read yesterday's posts, obviously I was outside all day!! For the first time since october

Thumbnail by dmcdevitt
Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

M5, thank you, Samson has grown a lot you can see when he jumps on people he nearly knocks them over. Since his operation he does not jump on me any more and if he does he is very gentle goes right down if I tell him to.

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

Happy Birthday Defoecat! I almost missed it, I just hate being the cows tail, but find myself in that position too often. I had someone ask me once what that meant, I explained it's an old expression meaning to come in last or late. "Oh", she said, "I thought you were referring to the size" SHEESH!
Now that I think about it, she probably had good reason to think that! LOL

~~~To everyone. I'm going to turn in my library card, they have nothing there that compares to my pleasure in reading the daily "soap opera" of all your lives. (smile)
A special ~ to the magnificent Samson!
Pati
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
Thanks Patti, someone has to be the cow's tail, or nothing would ever be over!!.
dmc, you finally got the picture with the horse's ears!! Glad you got to ride, and the weather was nice.
Darius, so if all of your possessions are going south, when will you follow?
M5 glad you enjoyed Menopause, and that you didn't have to navigate the construction. What a sweetie, DS for taking you.
Maria, Samson has really grown, he is HUGE. What happened to the wire? I guess I missed that post. Are you looking forward to the EB gardening? I have never tried them, so let us know about it.
Sarv, pizza for breakfast? Sorry about the dahlia tubers. Good excuse to buy some new ones. Our weather is chilly and overcast, but it is supposed to warm up.
Well, if I expect to get anything accomplished today, I will have to get the rear out of this chair and get going.
Have a few errands, but DGD and I talked ourselves out of going shopping, so maybe some other day for that.
Everybody have a good day.
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
Defoe, I expect to go to my sister's in a few days. Molly may get home Tuesday (unless there are problems in finishing the painting) and I'll want a couple of days to catch up on gardening with her. Then maybe 3-4 weeks with my sister before I head up to some as yet unknown spot in the mountains!
I have another half sister (on my father's side) who lives about 50 miles NW from here. Haven't seen her or talked to her since our dad died in 1992. Hope to get in a visit with her before I leave Molly's.
Maria, Samson sure looks like a Love!
Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)
defoecat~~~~happy belated birthday, (or can you just keep milking it? )My kids seem to have "birthweeks" by the time they celebrate with all the different parties involved, parents, grandparents, classmates, each separate group of friends...anyway I hope it's the start of a happy rewarding year!
darius-I hope another move won't be too stressful...will you be keeping in touch from your sister's?
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
Yep, taking my computer with me, and she has hi-speed internet service. May have a lag for a day or two until I get hooked up again.
south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)
Trying to think of something fun to do today. Got some laundry going, did the dishes, picked up some lint off the floor (not getting that stupid vacuum out today).....now what can I do?
I don't particularily want to go clothes shopping-nothing but a couple of white tees shirts that I need. Plus Kohls, where I buy everything, isn't having a sale until Thurs. so guess I wont' go there...
Listened to my favorite garden radio show - now listening to an investment guy - man -I need to get a life!!
Well, did wash my hair...need to curl that in a minute or two.
Anybody have anything in mind that would be fun?? Gosh, wish we lived closer- I'd stop over for a cuppa and a cookie... Since no one lives by me, I may have to go out to McD's!!
Darius - does it make you nervous that you have no long term plans?? I am such a 'chicken-little' about life - I admire anyone with a free spirit. Maybe in my next life....
Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)
Fun? Well, I changed the belt in the vaccuum cleaner, but the beater brushes are still not working...then i'm going to epoxy the bottoms of some of my Adirondack chairs where there's rot starting and seal them....then there are linens to pack up, the horse trailer to clean out and unhook....which is the fun part?
I'd love to have you stop in to shoot the breeze and avoid chores!! Oh yes, I washed my hair too - woohoo, big day for me. It curls itself, too....so I could pluck my eyebrows or something.....
Guess I need a life too!!
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
Yes, Sarv, it makes me nervous. I'm sure there's a Lesson in it somewhere but I have yet to discover it.
Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)
Well darius I hope it won't offend you if I keep you in my prayers, mainly that you will find a wonderful place to be the steward of. I believe you deserve it. You are an inspiration!
Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)
Greetings,
Just checking in but I also just checked the clock and it will be short. Have been messing around with the computers all morning, but we have to meet a friend who is visiting Ottawa for lunch. gotta get cracking. This friend was an American diplomat to Ottawa in the 70's and rented the house over our back fence. Her husband has since passed away, but she gets all over the place. It will be nice to see her. But since I also want to sit in on the 4 pm wedding, I'd probably better dress in something suitable so that I can go from one to the other.
More later. Have a good day.
Ann
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
Had a few errands to run, so I am back home. Stuck a pot of beef stew in the oven to simmer, while I am out playing in the sunshine.
Sarv, something fun? you must be kidding, I haven't "planned" anything fun for years!!
dmc, I know what you mean about birthday weeks. DGD,'s birthday is April 7, and she uses my birthday, March 31, to launch her celebration. But she has so many gm, gf, steps, etc. that it takes several days to get it all covered.
DR, meant to tell you that I am glad the DF is feeling somewhat better. You just be there and do some things together, and have fun. I know you will at the Dahlia show.
Viann, so a wedding, and lunch, or vice/versa, I don't think I have clothes that would do for both occasions, unless, you are thinking about a pricy restaurant!!
Darius, glad to hear that you will be connected when you get to your DS. I had hoped that my trip south would be before you left, but I don't think that will happen. Maybe next time!!
Well, I am going to clean the kitchen, then I am heading outside to soak up some of this sun.
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
Hi, All. Just have to post what a wonderful past few minutes I've had. Managed to find the local NPR radio station again, and they were doing Capitol Steps which is musical political parody. I haven't laughed so hard in ages!
One of the lines was Condelezza Rice asking Bush why he sent her to China. He said he thought it would be funny to send Rice to China! LOL.
If you never heard of them, here's their website
http://www.capsteps.com/
Don't have ANY intention of making a political statement here, just love the humor!
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
Do y'all remember Julie London's You give me Fever? They also did a short take on that tune about Hurricane Katrina called You give me FEMA. Some sound clips on their website. Laughs are good for everyone!
waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)
Oh drat I missed it! The first time I heard them I had NPR on my car radio and almost had to pull over I was laughing so hard. I can get both NPR stations here and their website has clips of the programs, which is great. They show no mercy no matter what political group they are lampooning. Very clever.
VAnn, I've been messing with my laptop too, trying to get the font size increased so I can read it without putting my nose on the screen. Trial and error.
Just dropped in to see what was going on...since I was booted up anyway. Good luck with your next move Darius, I agree you need a corner of the world to call your own. I hope it works out this time with your sister.
Gone again. DH is out picking up debris and dead foliage so I should help him for a while.
Sheila
Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)
Darius, I hope all your endeavors will work out just fine for you,
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
Don't forget to set your clocks ahead tonight!
Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)
Oh yes, and the microwave, VCR, digital oven, answering machine,car clocks (I can never remember how to do those) and all the other gadgets!
Starkville, MS
and the timer for the COFFEE POT!!!!
Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)
Third and final carving is up for it's fine tuning of the match lines. Tweaking and staining and I can start on something else. Rains gotta stop sometime so's I can get out in the mud and plant seeds. lol
Darius, glad you mentioned that nonsense about setting the world ahead an hour. I'll pass it on to DW, though she already knows about stuff like that.
Best wishes to everyone.
Ooooooh Noooooo not the coffee maker!!
Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)
Let us not forget our watches too....Lauri
Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)
Lost mine months ago...so one less thing to set!!
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
Robert, that's looking AWESOME!
Showed my southern roots by having some fried hominy with my dinner tonight!
Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)
Beautiful work Robert!
State Music Competition was held in our school today and after work, (10-2), I worked concessions from 3-5 and got to hear DS sing. First time I have ever heard him sing! And he got a I. Wow! Never even knew the child could sing like that - certainly did not get it from me! The judge says, "Now that man can sing!" Isn't it fun when u find out something like that about one of your kids that u just had no clue of at all? DD got singing awards every year but the 3 DSs would not ever participate in vocal, just band. This one decided to join vocal this year cuz his friends were in it. Now the vocal teacher wants him to do more. Hopefully the teach will have more luck in that dept than I have had. lol
darius, that Rice to China one is a hoot. DH told me this one the other day, .... Why was the Amish woman getting a divorce? Her husband was driving her buggy!! {groan, groan} ha ha!
Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)
Hi all,
I'd better make this short as I'm tired as usual tonight. (Famous last words, probably).
Maria, nothing blooming here yet either, but the Spring Glories in the little flower bed in front of my store have started --- even though most of them were still under a heavy layer of oak leaves. DH and I moved a lot of the leaves off this morning, but I still have more clean-up to do there when I get the chance. We should have narcissus out in front of the house in the very near future. The forsythia and lilac are starting to bud as well.
Oh, the Capitol Steps, yes they are generally very funny. I haven't heard anything by them in a long time.
Thanks for the reminder about the clocks, darius. I have a bad habit of forgetting all about that and have been known to show up for work an hour early --- or late! Hope everything goes very well in this up-coming move. At least you must know that you have so many friends here that there will always be somewhere for you to go if things don't work out with your sister.
Dmcd, I noticed the horse's ears in your pic right away as well, but Bonnie beat me to the punch when she mentioned them. Glad you got a chance to go riding.
Beautiful woodcarving, Robert. Thanks for showing it to all of us.
Bonnie, please take care of that back of yours. You don't want it to still be on the fritz by the time the heavy gardening chores come around! I can empathize with your DGD. Thunderstorms bothered me too when I was a kid and I'm still not real comfortable with them if they're anywhere close by.
Sarv, going to McDonalds is FUN? I avoid the place like the plague!
Thought about trying to respond to more individuals, but I'm sitting here yawning away. I really must get to bed. We hope to till the garden tomorrow and I need to plant peas and get more seedlings started. Goodnight to everyone.
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
I tried to post this afternoon, but the computer kept timing out. So finally said forget it, and moved on to something else.
Seems like everybody is thinking about setting the clocks, I knew it, but glad for the reminders.
McCool, my back is doing much better. This is the first day that I have not had to take a pain pill. Still taking the muscle relaxers and the anti inflamatory. I did pull a few weeds this afternoon, but made sure that I didn't stay out long.
Bal, those carvings are wonderful. How long have you been working on it? I bet it is time consuming.
Kooger, did the DS not sing in the shower? It is always a nice surprise to find out the talents our off spring has.
Darius, so tell us how to make fried hominy. I don't eat it myself, but DH likes it, and I fix it occasionally. I haven't run into NPR, here, maybe I am just not listening at the proper time. Wonder if there are any printed schedules for them, like the ones for tv?
Well, went out to eat tonight, delayed birthday celebration, it was good, but personally not my choice. Just as we were about to walk out the door, the phone rang, and neighbors wanted us to go with them. So we ended up at a steak house, when what I really wanted was seafood. dmc, I may have to have a birthday week, and continuing to celebrate it until I get that seafood!!
Well, am going to fix all the clocks etc, before it slips my mind. I may be back later, if not, sleep well.
Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)
Hi all. I have done the daily already because we have storms heading for us. If it means rain, hooray, if hail boo boo booo. Just put out all the tender inside plants and they will probably be ruined by the wind. Too much and too late to bring them all back in.
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/587991/
I worked so hard today too potting things up dividing and repotting. Was so nice, I enjoyed it a lot.
Pray for it to rain but not hail or blow us away. Can we be particularly picky with our prayers???? LOL
