Morning everyone -rain and gloom here today - but after yesterdays glorious sunny day, I'll take a rainy one.

Oh the home interior party was great fun!! I'm glad I went - even tho it was a heck of a drive. the new sister-in-law who had it, completely redid the house (my former sister-in-law died at age 42) The house looked beautiful - all dark, striking colors. And man is she a great cook!!! I politely purchased two items, and WON the door prize!!

Time to clean up the messy house!!

Good Morning All. Thanks for the Birthday wishes, I really appreciate it. Had a dmail from Happy, and she says tell all of you hi. Already got one good birthday present. DH let me sleep in and I got up at 8:30, wow it has been a long time since I did that.

The weather here is sort of cloudy, and they say rain this afternoon. So may persuade DH to get out and put the preen on the flower beds.

Gonna go have some toast, get my eyes opened a bit more, and will be back later.

Thanks all.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning everyone. We had some rain overnight, not much really but every little bit helps the pastures and fields. Warm weather would help too, but we are in another cool streak with snow and rain showers in the forecast. Last night I went to sleep with the sound of gentle rain on the metal roof and 2 kittys purring me to sleep.

Joyous, it's good to see you again. We had a few new people join our coffee sessions last week, it seemed that when the first one came in to say hello we got about 3 more right away. That makes me wonder how many people are reading and not saying anything. Come on in, we are all friendly!

Sarv, I'm glad you had a good time at the party. I now you folks who don't live in the west don't drive as much as we do out here. And you have more traffic to fight so that is also a factor.

Kooger, how is Kandyce today? It does sound like she tried to do too much too soon, so I hope she heeds this little warning and doesn't do something to set her healing back in a more serious way.

Happy Birthday, Defoe, have a good one!

I need to go to town today and get groceries. Wow, we went through a lot of food while we had 6 guests this week. My scatter rugs (do you call them throw rugs or area rugs?) need a trip through the big front loader washer in town, along with some horse related items. My recycle container is full so I need to be taking that stuff too, plus doing a bunch of other errands. This afternoon if the weather is dry I will go riding, that should be good for my achey back. I can't get in to see the chiropractor until next week.

Time now to get some breakfast and take some ibuprophen, feed the horses, collect my stuff that needs to go to town, and get myself there.

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Get out the 2x4 I must whine..................I called 7 farriers and not one called me back including the one I have used for ever. I finally found one and his prices are HIGH but at least my poor horse will be able to walk again. His being shoeless and having ringbone is not good for him. Annnd it's still raining and well that is it.
Sarv, sounds like you had fun, what was your prize??
Joyous, Hi I'm one of the newbees. And yes today I am whiney.
FC, hope you puppy gets better, that must be very frightening
~~~~~~to all I missed but have to get moving have to go to the grocery. Chocolate Chip cookies with toasted walnuts on the counter.....Hugs Lauri
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
It has been a pleasant morning, have had calls from my 2 sisters, son, a church friend, and 101.
It is sprinkling rain, so that sort of seals my plan for the day. Although DH is gonna spread the preen on the flower beds for me. I am finishing up a bird bath for my neighbor's birthday. Had one all done, and went to get it on Monday, and when I glued the last pot in place, just left it to dry, and found that it had slipped and is glued on crooked. So I will tuck that one in a place here, for my birdies, and will give this one to her. My neighbor knits all the time, and she gave me a purse that she had knitted and felted. She was Grand Champion at last's years Ky. State Fair, so I have a beautiful hand crafted gift to show off.
While taking a walk around the yard yesterday, I noticed a spot that I can have a shade garden. I don't know why it has taken me so long to notice that it is an ideal spot. Another project that will require me to spend $$ to get it going. I have a $200.00 order that I placed yesterday to help with the perennial bed this year. I wanted some plants to have something to show this year, plus will be putting down plenty of seed for next year.
Well, DGD comes this afternoon, so I guess I had better get to the kitchen and make some plans for supper tonight. She loves meat loaf, so I think that will be the main course, plus what every else I spy.
Have a good day all, I will be back later.
waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)
Oh yawnnnnnnnnnn, had a miserable night's sleep, for no reason I can figure, and went back to bed midmorning and slept til noon. Didn't want to fall asleep in the middle of "Menopause, the Musical" tonight with DIL. Feel rested.
Very high winds here today, rattling everything in sight. DH had set up my little portable greenhouse on the deck No, he didn't ask me, no water, no access, and no barrier from the cold underneath, Of course, it blew away. I thought it was gone forever, but spotted it in the side yard, where it had collapsed and lay flat on the ground. Had to go out in my jammies to retrieve it before it took flight again.
He had weighted it down with heavy flagstones, but plastic is slippery and it got away! Even flattened, getting it into the garage was a challenge, I thought I might end up somewhere up north of here, clutching it in my hands! I was going to move it anyway, but wanted to wait until these end of March/earlyApril winds were over. We get them every year. He means well, but sometimes............
Joyous, nice to see you again. I'm going to settle for ~~~ at everyone, and go get showered and dressed, since I've lost the entire morning already. Catch up tomorrow.
Sheila
Happy Birthday defoe!!!! Here's a little bouquet of flowers from my garden for you. Cineraria, I hope you like them. ~Babs~
Good afternoon!
Well, this weather is keeping me busy outside. I've potted up some more seeds today and set out some seedlings that came up. I found my first bloom *ever* on my purple cone flower! I got so excited ... kept showing it to my baby, but she didn't even blink an eye. LOL I decided to snip the ends off my rosemary and try to root them as it has a lot of new growth, but it doesn't look too healthy around the base of the plant. This way, maybe I will have some little plants for trade.
Hi Joyous, so good to see you back. :)
Where's Kelly? Haven't heard from her lately. Hope she hasn't run away! Maybe the hammering got to her?
Meezers, so sorry to hear about your greenhouse. Next time something takes flight, grab hold and fly south, okay? :)
Hi Babs, I actually previewed my post first and see you posted so I'm waving. ~~ LOL
Well, the DH has *finally* decided to share his gift card to Long Horn Steak House, so I won't have to cook tonight. :-) I've got a load of laundry to finish before he gets home, so I'll check in later.~~~
Good Afternoon All,
Finally have my computer back. We had quite a wind storm last night. No damage but out here in the boondocks it doesn't take much for my internet service to go out. There was quite a bit of damage not far from us and our neighbor has a barn next door but doesn't live there yet. He's a lineman for the REC and called last last right after the storm and DH had to go over and check on the cows. One is ready to deliver and he was afraid the storm would encourage her but no new babies as of today. This isn't her first so I'm sure she'll do fine but I keep reminding him that "I don't know nothin about birthin babies".
Happy birthday Defoecat. Isn't it fun when you get to the age when you'd rather do something for your grand-kids than yourself on your birthday? Last year we took a ride on Thomas the Tank Engine for my birthday. One of the best birthdays ever!
Have a great day all.
Nancy
Hanging onto my hat here -it is wild and windy!! We're watching things blow across the field -hope my greenhouse isn't one of them!! Now that I lugged most of my stuff out there, we have snow in the forecast...Sheesh, can't win. A couple of days ago they said it was going to be balmy all next week.
M5- I thought I saw something up in the sky - oh, I guess it wasn't you!! You'll love Menapause - make sure you go down on stage at the end of the play...great fun!! (dancing and kicking and laughing>>>)
Stopped in to see MIL and SIL and told them over and over what fun I had last night at the home interior party (the one they made excuses of not attending)...chuckled to myself the whole time. Oh, the door prize was just a jug of blackberry/vanilla hand lotion. I have a ton of that kind of stuff, but it was fun to win something!! They both have a capital L on their forehead (sorry, I'm being unkind now...)
I wanted to go out for dinner, but DH put a nix on that. So he's getting cardboard pizza - that will teach him!!
Defoe- love to hear that you are dropping a wad on perennials!! You go girl!! I just got a check back from my charge card ( you know the 5 and 3% rebate stuff) and I have $150 to stick in an envelope for flowers. Since DH doesn't handle the $$, he hasn't a clue and there is no reason for him to know about this little check!! LOL, I'm getting paid for paying the bills!!
Time to shove the pizza into the oven!!
Hi Yall!!
We finished job #1 vyestereday and started the next one today. It's moving along pretty quickly and I am hopin to get on the road Tuseday morninjg to go home.
Yesterday there was a bad water leak in the rec room under the guest house. The plumber was called. He took away the hot water heater and left no water in the big house , but we had cold water in the guest house. So we had to skip the showers. Plumber came back today and got the big house fixed for water, now the guest house can't have any due to pipe leak.
The customer says this will probably be the state of affairs until sometime next week. Well, we will manage some way and try not ti get underfoot too much.
I am tired of being gone from home and have lots of plans for projects when we return. Hopefully all frost will be gone and spring will have finally fer sure sprung.
I get only a few minutes of computer time here. Right now doig laundry and catching up with yall.
See ya soon.
Hi all, just want to copy into what I wrote Elaine earlier today.
She is such a sweetie to be concerned for me and my dad.
I have read most of the coffee threads but need to get today's done before I can comment. But have been thinking of you all tho a lot.
Actually things are looking up here in Bellingham, WA for my dad.
My son and I flew up here on Tues. nite. My dad was doing horrible. He just then got a call from the doc. saying he is to go in the next day to get a blood transfusion.
So him and I went to the hospital the next morn. at 9:15 am. It was to take 4 hrs.
Well, my mom had heard wrong on the phone. It is to take 4 hrs per unit of blood!!! So we were there 8 hrs.! What a long day!
My son stayed home with my mom, watched their cars, did some chores, etc. She got some things done too.
So yesterday, my dad was feeling a little bit better. Had an early birthday dinner for him at my sister.
But then this morning, he slept until 8 am!!! He was doing so much better, eating much more and the food even tasted real for once! I drove him down the the beach and we walked a bit!!!
So that blood transfusion works wonder. Tho next week, he will start the 5 weeks of chemo. but maybe he can start to do some things he hasn't been able to do lately.
Am going home on Mon. so still have a couple days here.
Tomorrow, is my day. I am going to a dahlia tuber sale here in town, so that should be fun to go to. Am really looking forward to doing that. Tho will have to watch the money, LOL!
So hope everyone had a good day today. It was very nice, sunny, and warm today outside.
Carol (DR)
Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)
Carol, so glad your father is doing better. I hope the chemo isn't too hard on him. Best thoughts and wishes to you all.
Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)
Evening all,
Happy Birthday (finally) to Bonnie!
Dr, hope your father has lots more good days left. My best to all of you. This is hard on so many people at once. How is your mother doing through all of this?
Hi Molly, geez, back to living in a "cold water flat" again? I hope the rest of the job goes very quickly so you can get back home in record time!
Hi Joyous, nice to see you again.
M5, hope you get a much better night's sleep tonight. I was a member of the "toss and turn" club last night too, but I had to get up to go to work this morning regardless. Better tie that greenhouse down! Mine didn't do itself any favors by trying to be a kite. It's kind of bulgy in some places and the panels don't lay as flat as they used to.
Sarv, good going on winning the doorprize. So glad you actually enjoyed the party/demo.
Hi Maria, what's coming up in your garden these days? Since you're much nearer to the coast, I'm sure that your season is well in advance of mine. I've noticed buds on the lilac bush and the narcissi are about to bud. There's not a whole lot showing on the Forsythia bush yet, but it must be just about to bloom.
Hi to Robert, Lauriwilson, Nancy, 101, Mary, darius, suzieq, Susan, Babs (nice flowers!), V-ann, and anyone I've inadvertantly left out. As usual, I'm too tired to write a really long post. Goodnight one and all.
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
Good Evening all, Thanks for all of the birthday wishes.I have had a very non productive day!!. DGD arrived about 7:00, and carried in a dozen rozes. What a sweetie. Thanks Babs for your flowers, now I have two bouquets!! Just making me think that I sure wish spring would hurry up.
We have had severe storm and tornado watches all evening. We have had rain, but nothing severe yet. Sarv, M5, sounds like you all could be "aspiring Mary Poppins". If you have to go out, please leave the umbrellas inside. Or if you are up for a trip south, just get a bigger umbrella, and sail on down. Would love to have you "drop in".
Back is about the same as yesterday. Did take 2 pain pills during the course of the day. Waited awhile this morning to see what kind of pain there would be, and made it until noon.
I got out this afternoon, after hearing of the forecast of rain, and put down the preen on the flower beds. Will do anything to help cut down on the weeding this year. Tomorrow, I am going to post a picture of something in my wildflower bed. It has been green all winter, and think that it is surely a plant of some kind, but need help with identy.
Molly, your situation without hot water is reminescent of several months ago. Sure that you are not enjoying that aspect of the job. Have you seen any nursery's that you couldn't pass? I dropped some big $$ on a plant order, to help fill the perennial bed sooner.
Well, I am going to check some other forums, and then try to get in bed a little earlier.
To all of you who had sunshine today, hope it continues, to those of you who had bad weather, hope that it is better tomorrow, to those with sleeping woes, I hope you have a restful night. And to all of you who have sent birthday wishes to me, you have made my day. Thanks everybody!! I appreciate it.
Verona, ON
Happy Birthday Defoe. Hope your day was wonderful and the coming year will bring you joy, peace and happiness.
It was just fantastic out here today - we don't even have a fire on in the wood stove - hard to believe it is March 31. Tonight we have a severe Thunderstorm warning and a Tornado watch no less - man oh man these weather extremes are hard to comprehend. This nice weather has me itching to get my Mustang back on the road but I just know we are going to get another snowstorm.
The peepers are out - well at least some brave ones are..... I love their sound, find it quite lulling. There was a frog on the back stoop tonight so am hoping that is a sign that spring had sprung!
~~~~ to you all.
Dianne

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi Everyone,

I got back a couple of times to read, but not to post. Won't try to comment individually to all as it would be after my bedtime when I finish.

Bonnie - I hope you had a great birthday.

It was a gorgeous warm day here today +20 or so which is no coat weather. The last of the snow in my front yard went today. But there is still about a foot of snow immediately behind the house where my garden shed is which means I can't get at a rake to start working on the leaves in my garden. Didn't have time anyway today. Didn't go to Aquafit, but joined the ladies for coffee and to get the game plan for helping one of them sort out her house before she moves in 4 weeks. She's obviously overwhelmed by the task at hand. I didn't help today other than to get some boxes from a neighbour who just moved and tranfer them a few blocks to this other person's house, but I will next week. I DID go bathing suit shopping and ended up with one basic cheap suit. No sense spending much when they rot so fast.

Spent a fair bit of the day entering a handbell piece into the computer. It's written for two handbell choirs and organ and we will be playing it with other groups at a concert on April 30. But I wanted to play it in church with organ on the morning of April 30. Trouble is, not all of it is antiphonal from the part we are playing and I don't want to have my ringers play anything radically different in the morning from what they will play in the evening. So, the organ part will have to be adapted in some way. For some of it we will have to construct an organ part based on the other bell choir part. An interesting challenge, but I will have to consult my church organist to see what she would advise.

Was out this evening playing two-viola string quintets which are always fun to do. I pawned off the difficult Viola I part to a slow movement of one of the Mozart Quintets to the other violist who, it turned out, had his own part with him complete with fingerings. Think I'll make it a project to learn that so that next time it shows up I know it. ;-)

Have a good night everyone.

Ann

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

Hi everyone! I had my annual mammogram, then went to the dermatologist to remove a couple of spots on my face. Said it was nothing to worry about, but I hate those 'spots'. LOL Now I have large blisters where he froze the 'spots', but eventually....well you know.

It was a gorgeous day, got up to 82, but of course we missed out on any of the rain yesterday. Missed out on the storms too, which I was NOT unhappy about.

I put some of the wintered over inside the house plants back outside. I want the rest of them out there too, I so want the house back. Of course now it means if we get really cold again, DH has to move them all back into the garage for the night. I am trying to get seedlings started, it is harder than usual. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I guess I just need to start them outside instead of trying to get the early blooms.

Then I watered both the back and the front which took me two hours. whew...I know, I know, don't over do. LOL

But it was enjoyable, almost all of the hostas are coming up and some are even starting to look really good. I am so excited. The tulips are really doing their thing, I love it. I examined every little bud and leaf.

In between the mammo and the dr. appt, I had two hours to kill so I went to hobby lobby. I found some really cool swirly sticks to hang in the trees. I don't know how to describe them, but I know you know what I mean. They look like clear acrylic plastic in a curly que shape, as I sit in my swing and watch them it looks like they come from another dimension, flowing into ours with their beautiful colors and back into theirs. Am I a kook or what? ROFL

One of the neighbor's dogs has been coming over a lot lately. I can't figure out why. She is a small little terrier type dog, her name is Shelby. She was following DH around today as he rode the mower picking up leaves, she would follow behind as he went round and round. Odd. Then she saw me and waddle walked up to me, but not too close, very wary, tail tucked as tight as could be, acted like she really wanted to be petted. I sat down and tried to get her to come, just then around the corner came Snowcone the cat. He got down low to the ground like a panther or tiger stalking his prey, and then proceded to chase poor little Shelby all over the place. I couldn't believe it. I was worried about a dog chasing him and he does that?????

I went in the house and got some dog treats and coaxed her back over. I would throw out a piece and she would get it, then a little closer, and closer until she finally took it from my hand. Still too skittish to let me pet her. But I will work on it. If I can keep Snowcone away. LOL

Well, I have gone on way too long. Now if the humming birds would get back here, my life will be complete.

Susan

Hi everyone.

Carol, your family will be in my prayers. I'm glad your dad had a good day after the transfusions. Have fun looking at the dahlias!

Ann, that sounds so interesting, the piece with handbells and organ, I would love to hear it. You certainly do take on the challenges!

Molly will paint like a mad woman now so she can get home to take a shower!

Nice to get 2 bouquets, Defoe, smell those roses for me!

Tomorrow is a busy day, I will be leaving here at 5:30 am with my mare and driving to Portland to show her to a prospective buyer. Then I have to drive home again. 6 hours or so each way. See you all on Sunday. ~~~ :)

Temp. was in the 70's today, what beautiful weather!!! I was working out of doors all morning, the gardens look so much better getting rid of all that dead stuff, but have not any thing in bloom yet, McCool, only foliage has popped up.
Then my yard man came raking the lawn, there are 3 acres of it, and also removed branches that fell from snow falls.
I warned him the Samson's fence lies on top through one of the gardens, they do it this way so one can not make a mistake and cut throught when digging but wouldn't you know , he did not see it at one point and he cut it, sheesh was I ever upset.
In rthe afternoon I had loads of errands, dicovered my car is actually green and not gray after I had it washed. Bought a wall telephone, the one I have now is so ancient some # do not work anymore but wouldn't you know it was not the right kind , have to take it back tomorrow.
Well it is getting late probably will be the last one here, so good night every one, see you tomorrow
