More magazines..

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

I guess we all subscribe to our favorite magazines, but my question is..what the heck do we do with them when we are finished reading them??? Some I pass on to others but I still have about 5 years of Mother Earth News (when I was living barefoot and fancy free..LOL) and about the same of Cat Fancy..I sure hate to throw them away, but no one I know is interested in them..

So..what do YOU do with your old magazines???

Our local library has a bin where people can place magazines that they have read so that other people can take them if they want them.

I wish ours did...I called but no luck

A few ideas:

1) Grocery store bulletin boards - put up a note with a way for them to contact you.
2) Freecycle
3) Nursing homes, hospitals, health department, etc? (Many of them will take magazines for their residents or visitors ;o)

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

I am a big fan of freecycle..got rid of a few that way..was just wondering what others did..

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

I usually dont' sit still long enough to read them except when I go to the doctor. Between my mother and I, we have quite a few doc appts. So I take a stack of mags and read them and leave them on the table (after removing my address label) for the next patients.

Anytime I go anywhere where I'll have to wait (mechanic, dentist, etc), I take a few mags with me and leave them behind when I'm done with them.

I have a bunch of Mother Earth too. They're in the attic turning into antiques. I pass others along or give them to Goodwill. I don't get pass alongs myself any more, so I keep all my subscribed magazines.

Pioneer, CA

I take mine to the doctors or dentists office because it seems that every time I look at a magazine while I'm there, I see a recipe I can't live without soooooooo-- I take mine in and do a trade. They get a kick out of it and they get new magazines that way too. Works for both of us.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Dguimo, that is a very resourceful idea! Thanks for not just tearing it out! Also, they never have magazines I'm interested in. Donating would solve that problem for me and others.

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Or you can trade your Mother Earth News for plants here on Dave's
Garden.

Hint hint.

:-) Would LOVE to trade for them!

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Actually, we keep them because of their interest value. I have a bunch of Natl. Lampoons too. My DH is one who likes to sit down and read real old magazines. I have a small pile of The American Magazine from the 50's.

A good thing to do is to make up an anonomous lable and have it say: "Someone was thinking of you and wanted you to have this magazine, Its yours I'm done with it." Just leave it at the car oil change, doctors office, Veterinary, where ever you go the next time on errands. Just leave it there. It gives people a warm fuzzy and helps them smile.

Good idea!

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

Check with your local hospitals and rehab centers. They can use them for patient projects. Sometimes pre-schools and vacation Bible schools will take them so the kids can just cut them up.

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Many, many great ideas..Since I have a nursing home AND schools in the neighborhood, I think I will make the trips to them and see if they will be interested in having some of these magazines..

Thank you all for the wonderful suggestions.

Kris

ps..I also like the idea of trading for plants..I will have to find all those Mother Earth and see what I can do..LOL

Frankfort, KY

I wanted to donate a bunch of paperback books to a nursing home and was told that the elderly cannot read the small print.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

kyjoy, hello fellow kentuckian. I noticed at our clothes closet, that they receive a lot of books and sell them quick as well. If you have a lot to find a home for, there are so many places. Even the library will take them and put them up for people to just take.

someone mentioned magazines to the hospital, that would be a good place for your books as well.
