For our Canadian friends, about seeds from the U.S.

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Hello all,

For those in Canada, I'm curious about something regarding
your postal system.

Are your packages routinely opened by the post office, then
taped up and sent on to you? Do you have troubles receiving
seeds from the U.S?

This has me stumped, as each time I think I'll begin sending
to Canada again, someone claims not to have received their
seeds. Right now a fellow is calling me on my home phone
asking about his seeds which I have sent not once, but twice,
and now he wants a refund even though I clearly told him on
the telephone that it would be at his own risk this time.

It has been over a week since I sent them.

I'm puzzled. Could someone direct me to a site where I might
learn more about the postal system's policies for your country?

Many thanks

I get lots of seeds from US ofA. Have never had a problem. Sometimes it does take awhile. I think a week is pretty swift. I would wait at least 3 weeks before I started worrying about non-delivery.

Sometimes customs open them, but usually tape them up and send them on.

Most of my seeds just come in an envelope without any customs declaration or anything like that. After all, there is no value to them when you are swopping.

You just have to be a tad inventive when sending things.

I sent some cuttings last fall to someone in Canada and I think it took about ten days.

Most of the commercial seed orders that I get from the US take about three weeks or more. Trades a little less sometimes. Sometimes they have been opened, but nothing has ever been taken out. I think I've waited as long as five weeks when customs was on a slow-down. The seeds I've sent over have always reached their destination.. I think your trading partner is expecting things to happen a little quicker than that. Not your fault.

I agree w/the others...it usually takes a while. I've sent seed from N.Carolina to Canada (the Western side!) and they've arrived in two - three weeks. (Postage was fairly inexpensive though! yay!)

I sent a Global Priority box trade last year (3-5 days) and it took over 2 weeks for them to receive it. Ugh!!
