Today's thought

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once! :)

Good early morning all! Still very early - I can't sleep as usual so will grind the beans for the first pot of coffee. I have switched to a new coffee aptly named Iron Horse's Kick A**. It is magnicant and the smell divine - can't you smell it?All set - ready on the counter with home made Tea Biscuits fresh out of the oven.
Let me reintroduce myself - my DG name is Kidneyguy (loooong story) but I answer to Dianne. I live in Verona, Ont., Canda about a 2 hr drive from VAnn. I thaught school for almost 20 year ending my last few years as a Behavioural Consutlant with the Toronto School Board - I serviced 23 schools - both staff and students. How some who majored in PHYS Ed ended up in Special Education is a mystery even to me.One night in1987 returning home from work (school) I was in a horriffic car accident and was pretty banged up. Spent 2 years having Physio 5 days a week and during that time gave alot of thought into my career. I had a Stained Glass business started up (mainly because I am an insomniac) so decided to change hats and become a full time SG Artisan. I am just now winding down that business to maybe 1 or 2 shows a year and some custom business. I do alot of church windows - in fact have some in every Canadian Province. several northern states, England and Japan no less.Now, just to get out and talk to people I work PT at the local IGA - still lovin' it!
Now Sarv has promised me that not only do you a 2x4 and the 2x6 I requested from her in DMail but she secretly has a 2x10 that she will loan for serious cases.
You all have such a wonderful relationship on this forum that I have never wanted to jump in and interfere but Maria has also assured me there is always a place for one more.I live over a mile into the bush in a house we built on 2004 - we have water on 3 sides us - Verona/Rock Lake to the west, Mosquito Creek and Mink Lake to the east.and south. Lots of critters and I have 2 large dogs the loves of my life. Stormy is a white German Shephard and Quill (short for Tranquil) is a chocolate lab. Both are over 100lb and full of P&V.
Enough about me, you all seem to have very busy lives and I enjoy reading about all of your activities. It is truly an eclectiic bunch!
Maria, I hope you are not so blue today and suffering from that headache. Samson in your good books yet?
Three weeks in an Canadian hospital for a GB operation (well at least Ontario)is a VERY long time. She must have really had some complications. How thoughtful of her to call and explain the situation.
Going to start some seeds this wekend but not until Sunday. Fool that I am I invited 16 people to a True Pot Luck on April Fool's Day. That's all fine until I found out I was scheduled to work 8am. - 5 pm. guess that means I am really going to have to get organized this week.
Hope you all have a great day and the sun in shining where you live today. T&P for all of you and your families that good health will return to all and the painfull days will soon be over.
Have a fantastic day everyone and thanks so much for letting me join you for a coffee.

I hope it's okay if I join in also. So nice to hear that I'm not the only insomniac around. I've been awake since 2:00 a.m. Middle age has it's disadvantages.

My name is Nancy and I live in Iowa. I quit working a few years ago while building our new house and never got around to getting another job. I love being at home and we have a big garden. I do a lot of volunteering for our church and manage to keep every day full of things to do. My husband and I have 3 grown children. My youngest son is in the Navy and is out to sea now. He's in the submarine fleet and I try not to worry too much. I'm claustrophobic and I don't know how he stands it but he likes it. I don't think he's crazy about being under but he loves going to port and I guess he's willing to put up with all the days under the ocean for a few days at port. On his last deployment he went through the Panama Canal and spent a few days in Lima, Peru.

I have another son who is not married but has a great girlfriend. I keep telling him she's not going to wait forever but it doesn't seem to phase him. My oldest is my daughter and she did get married and gave me my granddaughters. Two beautiful twin girls that are three and a half. I got to watch them for a week this month. Lot's of work but so much fun. She's going to law school. I don't know how she does it with the girls but she seems to manage. But she was happy to have me give her a week off!

We have a black lab mix dog named Reglisse (mean licorice in French) and a cat with the wonderful creative name of Kitty. We live in the country on 8 acres. We moved to our new house 2 years ago. We had it built for us and we really love it. We have an attached greenhouse and it faces the southwest and I have plants everywhere.

This is probably more than anyone wants to know but I've been reading your posts the last few weeks while I'm awake very early. But I figured I might as well get to know the other non-sleepers in the world.

Have a great day, Nancy

Hey - how nice to wake up and see two new faces!! Welcome Diane and Nancy...I was up at 3:30 this morning wandering around the house, turning on the outside lights etc. I should have checked with the rest of you awake!! What is happening??? Seems like a bunch of us are wide eyed during the night!!

I thrashed around so much last night that I swear every piece of hair on my head is sticking straight out - I look a fright. Plus, I lathered up in vicks, so I not only look awful, I smell just as bad! Need to hit the shower for sure before I work out.

Nancy -I cannot imagine being in a submarine. I get a little closed in feeling just going into our shower stall! In my next life, I will be more adventuresome. Just yesterday while I was with my friends, one said 'I have room for two more in our condo in Cancun - I wanted so bad to hollar- I'll take it,but I know I would not sleep a wink until Sunday when they fly out (non flier here) - so I kept my mouth shut. I am the only one of my group of friends that doesn't/won't/can't fly - I feel like a failure sometimes...

Diane - April Fools joke is on YOU!! having all those people over when you have to work. How about take out pizza...

My DIL who was having Easter, has decided not to have it. Hmm - does that mean I have to host it?? Oh dear, I just don't want to do it...getting major lazy. My folks will be home from FLA by then, so I suppose I need to do it...Other DIL will not host anything, so she is out...

I am getting lazy. Instead of building a fire in the woodstove, I cranked up the furnace- DH won't know - I'll turn it off before he gets home. Sometimes a gal has to do what a gal has to do.

Hey oz - good for you for taking action. I don't know what 'rust' looks like...is it rusty looking? Oh, maybe it isn't rust- just a virus - can't remember... I do know that DL's get rust. Maybe I have the two plant illness confused..

Well, time to check my little seedlings. My plant stands have been in the bedroom all year and on too since Oct. And I wonder why our electric bill is high! lLOL

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Good morning and welcome, Nancy also Sarv.
I usually have some thing to go with coffee but only have toast this morning perhaps some one else has something more yummy?
I have been on a submarine that was open for visitors in Connecticut, all I could think of I would not be on one of those closet sized rooms for all the rice in China
Nancy ,your place with the GH sounds great, I wish I had one alwayd did but never got there. It sounds as if you have to take care of quite a few pets. I have grown grandchildren and one GGC who is going to have a brother this summer.
Sarv, I can imagine how you feel about how you look ,have been there myself

Edited to say, Just forgive me I always make a lor of typo errors, sonce I do not know how to, this time I forgot to check

Good morning,

Wow - not even 8 am yet and TWO new people. Welcome, Dianne and Nancy.

Dianne - have you done any church windows in Ottawa? Do you frequent the Canadian forum? Can't say I've seen you there, but there's also a lot of stuff I don't look at.

Nancy - I also have twin grand-kids, just a bit older than yours (mine will be 4 on April 8). And in my case, I've got a girl and a boy. Aren't they fun?

defoe - if the back doesn't improve soon, try massage thereapy.I find it works miracles. And yes, there must have been major complications for someone to spend 3 weeks in hospital after a gall bladder operation. Most of the time these days, they are done with the very small incision.

Maria - hope you get a chance to nap today.

I'll check in later, but have to go get breakfast. Then try to track down that missing deposit book. I've looked all over the house with no luck. Maybe I left it in the supermarket cart as I got some groceries after going to the bank.

Hope you all have a good day (another sunny, warm one here in Ottawa) and TTYL.

Ann

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Ann, LOL, it suppose to be cold in Canada here it is sunny but only 32' right now

Good morning all and thanks for your welcomes.

Maria - You must have been in Groton Conn. That's where my son is stationed. We visited once while he was going to school. We sure had a good time. It was Fleet Week in New York City so we took the train there and had lobster in Mystic. We just don't get lobster like that here in Iowa. We didn't go through the submarine though, just didn't have enough time.

Hope you find your deposit book Ann. Seems like the older I get the more time I spend looking for stuff. I'm always putting something in a safe spot and then can't remember where the spot was, just that it was a safe spot.

Have a great day all.

Just washed the wild hair - gonna do a sponge bath for the vicks! Have my heavy duty gel on my hair so it will hold up...how could I live without get!

Gloomy, drippy and chilly here. But they are saying it will clear off by afternoon. When I let the cat out I was shocked to hear all the clatter from the birds!! What a joyous sound...

There's a couple of english muffins on the counter, nothing fancy, but tasty with some orange marmalade...(I'm drinking some diet coke, but please have something better!) Meat loaf/baked potataoes are on the menu for dinner.

Vi- good luck finding the missing book - I lose things all the time - they eventually turn up, but seldom when I really need them. I'll be organized in my next life...

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

yes, Nancy, that is where we were, glad you had lobster, there is nothing better then lobster fresh from New England, we eat it all the time.

Hello and good morning to all, my name is cindilynn,i am rather new to Dave's garden but i have been on this thread before,welcome to all the new faces,a little bit about myself. I live in saylorsburg,PA. I have a 15 year old daughter,a wonderful husband(sometimes,LOL) 12 cats(4 inside'the rest in the barn) 3 dogs Roscoe,my lab-rotti mix, mindy,my German sherpard,and con-man my 120lb rotiweiler. We live on 11 acres and we garden all different types of vegetables,heirloom flowers, fruits and herbs we are going to start raising chickens this spring and i am going to try to grow orchids real soon. I work as a nurse in the coronary critical care unit at the local hospital, i do 12 hour shifts so when i do finally getting to sleep i sleep its the waking up, thats the problem. And usually after doing 3 days in a row,it takes me one day to regroup and renew. My family and i are also in animal rescue and nature conservation, well i am sorry if this became long. just wanted to introduce myself,and say that i am so happy to have Dave's garden and talk to so many wonderful and helpful people. that love gardening and family life,just as much as i do.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

It is not too long at all, Cindi, your full name must be Cynthia, my elder daughter's name is Cynthia, she calls herself Thia but I never do will call her by the name we gave her :-)
You have quite a few pets around you with some good watch dogs and all those cats! When we lived in the old farm house we had about that many too all but one lived in the barn taking care of all the rodents that wanted to live there because of all the grain we had for the cattle and chickens
Nice to see you here again

A hearty welcome to the new faces!

I went aboard the captured Japanese WWII sub that's a tourist attraction in the Baltimore Harbor. Couldn't do it for more than a minute. I guess the newer nuclear subs are larger but that wouldn't help me! When I was a child, we lived 3 blocks from the sub base in Key West for a while but I seldom saw the subs.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

A cheery good morning to our new friends, and the old ones, too. And I don't mean old age-wise. Has anyone explained the GOBS to the newbies? Means, if my memory hasn't checked out again, Grand Old Broads, except for the fellas, it means Boys! I'm mentioning it only because it hasn't come up lately. And we wouldn't want to confuse anyone...

While I help myself to the counter treats, (Elaine, that sounds like the perfect breakfast to me, chocolate anything!) I'll confess to being extremely uncomfortable in tight places. Two occasions have convinced me that I am borderline claustrophobic. Once, in Paris, my friends wanted to visit the catacombs, and we bought the tickets and signed up. Oh boy! We started going down a narrow stone staircase, which got progressively smaller as we descended. At the second level down, I couldn't handle it, and turned around like a salmon that has changed it's mind about precreating, and fought the descending stream of tourists to get back up to ground level. Friend Toni shared her photos with me later, and even those made me shudder.

Second event was with my GS, who was about 8 or 9, begged to take a tour of an old mine that was open for tourists. You know, the miners go down in an elevator. That was no longer operational, so they had made a long tunnel for a motorized cart, that took you down into the mine. You could reach out and touch the tunnel walls with your hand, it was so narrow. I managed not to panic, but I wanted out of there so badly, I could hardly breathe. At the bottom, we exited into a large cavern, which relieved me for a while, but then we had to go back up. I think the only reason I wasn't shrieking was so that I wouldn't scare the pants off the kid! Getting in a submarine and going under water would not be an option for me! Yeow!

On the good news front, cable co. is sending out a tech to get my laptop configured into their wireless network, as we weren't able to do it over the phone. NO charge! And, if he or she isn't here between 7:30-10:30 as promised, I get $20. Even though there is no charge for the service!!

I see lots of tulips coming up. Went and bought a big bag of potting soil, and took those sprouting daylilies and popped them into planters. Put them out along side the south wall of the upper garage, and then Mother Nature gave them a nice drink of rain. I'll have to replant them but I was afraid to leave them sprouting in the packaging any longer. My spare bedroom is so small, and with the two dressers, my sewing machine, a rocking chair, bedside chest/table, tv stand, I'm flat out of floor space. And it's on the north side of the house, so no sunshine from the windows. Oh, yeah, my ironing board is in there too!

Sarv, you don't have to do Easter, take your folks out for a fancy brunch! No clean up, no need to invite the nonparticipating kids, and the rest of the day free for you to go visiting or sitting with your laptop! I was having hair wars yesterday, and today it was fine....DH had forgotten to refill the water softener salt supply, and the hot water tank finally had dispersed all the unsoftened water. What a difference.

Maria, when I went out to MA last year with my DD, my DH asked if I was going in order to see my friend in Byfield, or to eat lobster rolls. Silly question. Fresh lobster is absolutely unequaled in flavor and texture, they truly don't travel well! But I did really want to see my friend, and my DD is fun to travel with.

And, for those of us feeling muscles we haven't used for a while, this is only the beginning! Only two hours outside on Sunday and maybe an hour with the bulbs yesterday, and last night I went to get off the couch and felt every one of those twinges and aches, like you. DH reached over and gave me a push halfway up or I might not have made it! I think I'd better get myself down on the carpet and do some stretching and bending exercises every day for a while, or when we start doing the real work, I'll be laid up for days. Dcat, no more wheel barrow lifting for you!

Laurie, you have gone off the deep end. We'll be watching to see where you are able to plant all those starters, you may end up with no lawn. Not that that is a bad thing, DH is more than willing to increase garden bed sizes so he will have less lawn to mow.

Gotta get off this machine....make some breakfast and hope the cable service doesn't catch me with a mouthful of grits....
~~~ to everybody, and sending good luck wishes to Oz for his battle with the corporate world. We haven't had much luck with perennials from Wallyworld, their supplier doesn't seem to have winter hardy plants for zone 5.
Later!
I guess maybe it's all relative. LOL Only in Canada, they say, will you see people in shorts and T-shirts when the temps are +(12-15). (remember your celsius conversions from school?). Haven't actually been out, was sure was nice yesterday and looks the same today. Gotta get going to have my minister sign my passport application as a guarantor. He's only available until around 11.
cindi, nice to hear from you. My sympathies on the 15 yr old daughter. Unless she's an unusual 15 yr old, you'll need it at times.
Bye for now.
Good morning everyone.....
I am very happy to see so many cat owners on here, and for that reason I need to unload. I had a REALLY bad day yesterday......with the afternoon spent at the vets office.
A month ago, I adopted a cat from a local humane society that does not have a facility, and therefore must foster out it's animals until a home is found. Remington is the sweetest cat that I've ever owned, and is getting along just fine with my other cat Buddy. However, I was concerned that Remington just didn't seem right, and although I did get him a complete check-up and shots when I brought him home, I took him back yesterday. It turns out that he has the Feline Leukemia Viurs in his blood. His blood work all looked just terrible, he had lost 3/4 lb since March 2nd, and was very jauniced. He's now on antibiotics, steroids, and received 3 large syringes of fluids. And......I dropped $200. Buddy was tested for FLV when I adopted him 5 years ago, and has always been up to date on his shots.....thank goodness. I was told when I picked up Remington that he has tested negative. He could not have gotten this sick in such a short amount of time if he had recently been tested. I might add that when I picked him up from the foster home the place was over run with cats and a couple of dogs. My vets office will be contacting them as they have the potential for many infected cats. Returning him to that situation is not an option for me. I doubt that he will get the care he needs.
My dilemma is what to do with Remington. Honestly, he is so sweet and affectionate, and is settling into my heart very quickly. However, I've only had him for a month and I'm trying to justify the amount of money I can sink into him. I also realize that I must keep myself from getting anymore emotionally involved with him. I lost a very dear cat last fall that had adopted us 15 years ago. His illness and death was just horrid on all of us. I am so torn as to what to do. Of course, I won't let him suffer, and although he's not very perky right now, he doesn't seem to be in any discomfort.
This is breaking our hearts, and yet I am more than a little annoyed with the humane society that gave him to us. I am going to send a strongly worded email to the director, and hopefully this sort of thing won't happen again. In the meantime I'm giving Remington both pills and that lovely pink liquid twice a day......and hoping that we can stop his decline.
Enough whining and complaining from me. I need to focus on what a truely beautiful day we have here today. The sun is shining, and although the temps are still in the 30's, it might just hit 50 this afternoon. Remington is snoozing on the cat flat, warming himself in the sun, and Buddy is laying in the sun, on the ege of the deck, watching the lake ice start to melt. Sooner or later the snow will melt and I'll be out there weeding and watching my hostas poke through.
Sarv--- You got to get there attention So I hope anyone who takes decides to write does so in a manner that puts them on our side. In spite of the way I write and spell now, believe it are not I have written many many things from explanitory letters up thru govermant regulations and even a few fishing pieces. I did a lot of impact writing.
I do not know what rust Looks like really. I have several pages of info though on Hosta Virus X that I collected off the internet. If I see something funny on a plant I usually get on this thing and reseach it.
Back from the huff/puff - really moved my hinny today and it's a good thing as my car made a quick turn into McD!! I ordered a burger and 2 cherry pies and a DC. And wouldn't you know it, the pies wouldn't be done for 8 min!.. I told the girl thanks- she just saved me some calories...got just the burger....that's my lunch I hope!!
Had to stop by the post office for 14 - 2cent stamps - phew- now I will be done with all that nonsense. Time to spring for the 39 cent ones..
Misty rain here and chilly still - keep searching for the sun that was promised!!
marie_ -that is some situation and I would be mighty furious with the place I got it from. I'd probably keep the cat too and see it to the end with it. We;ve lost three pets and I swear it was as bad as losing a family member. The only good thing is that you can get another pet, but not another family member!!
Well, off to the bathroom where thelight is good- I have a couple of whiskers that are bugging the crappola off me!!
M5- get that new machine up and running asap!
A warm welcome to the newbees from another newbee =o))
Perhaps I should have read before I posted about watering the bedroom, LOL but I watered it anyway!!
I read about the submarine and the stairs and the tunnel and my chest gets tight and I have a hard time breathing just reading about it, yep I am a claustrophobic. I had to repair a leaking pipe under our trailer and to get there you have to crawl in flat and over the axel and got I too hot and in the small area had a full blownclaustrophibic/ panic attack and tore myself up getting out of there, 2 hours later I got it done. Gads I hate water leaks!!
Sarv, our Home Depot had the same problem with Hosta VirusX and rust on the snapdragons so I informed the store manager, he immediatly removed every plant from the shelves and garden center and he asked me to come back the next day as the delivery truck would be there and to help him inform them as to the problem. I did and brought my nursery owner friend, they took all those back and even refused to off load the ones they had. But now there is a new manager who does'nt give a rip.
Marie I am so sorry to hear about Remmington, I lost a kitty to FLV and it was hard. I have a newbee here that is not going to be able to stay as my odster will not tolerate her at all. It's beeen 2&1/2 weeks and nothing but fights inside and out. But I have found her a good home and she will go there.
Woo Hoo am I a GOB too?? How long does one have to be here to qualify??
Well ~~~ to all I have missed but must get the laundy monster slayed and talk to the dryer about eating socks yet again, and also remove some of the migrating dust bunnies.
Have a great day,afternoon,evening and will check back in later....Lauri
Lauri,
Your time at Dave's is not a qualifying factor to be a GOB, only your time on earth. Official age for being a GOB is 50. Under agers are Gobettes or Gobs in training. Welcome newcomers, very glad to see yall.
GM GOBs and 'Ettes! 'Tis a fine mornin' in the PNW even though it's raining a bit. I'm grateful for the rain today, it keeps me from feeling guilty about not working in the garden.
Welcome to the new faces and the ones that have returned after a hiatus. We always enjoy a new face and some fresh stories. Please feel free to share yourselves and your gardening tips and hints with us, we can all use some new information from time to time.
Dianne, you sound like a very busy lady. I'm sure your hobby/avocation keeps you quite busy. I'm enamoured with SG. My DBIL does some beautiful work himself and has made some quite fine pieces. Two of which are displayed in his home, and some in the local Catholic church here. He's also made several that are in the Parsonage and lend a particularly beautiful aesthetic charm as they cast fabulous patterns on the floors of the parsonage first thing in the morning and in the evening when the sun shines through them. Maybe some day you'll post a picture or two of some of your work so we might all enjoy the fruits of your labours? *hope, hope, hope*
Nancy, You have quite the eclectic family. A daughter reading law and has a set of twins? Wow, I'm impressed. Don't worry about the son who hasn't made a commitment to a gal in marriage yet. He's probably not ready, and may not be so for some time to come. I have a brother who worked and travelled around for many years and didn't marry until he was 50, now has young children (15 & 13) and is so much the better for it. If he'd married earlier and started a family I don't think he would have been the great father he is today. He was too busy with other interests when he was younger. Not that he didn't like the girls, he just wasn't ready to settle down, so he built himself a 72' sailboat and sailed around the world several times along with starting his own business after having worked for NASA, Bendix, and was in the Navy in his earlier years. Now he's sitting on a pile of money, has a good life being a consultant and works only when NASA requires his expertise, otherwise, he's a full time Dad and having a blast raising his kids even though he's no longer a young man.
I'm a Navy wife myself, DH has been in 28+ years now and will be retiring with 30 years of active service in mid-2007. He was originally flight crew on P-3's in his early days, went to tail hooks after 7 years of flying 15 hour missions with only a few days off here and there. We never had an anniversary, birthday, holiday or were even even able to attend a funeral together when he was flight crew. He resigned his wings, went to tail hooks and is now a Command Master Chief of the largest command at NAS Whidbey. He almost went *bubble head* after P-3's but he was reticent about deploying so often with the blue and gold teams and he'd had enough of being gone all the time. At least in the *bird farm navy* he could count on being home for three years when he was on shore rotation and he said, he'd rather not have recycled air to breathe when the mess cooks made cabbage or cauliflower for supper 300 feet below the surface, or even when he was flying have to worry about smacking into something. When you're flying missions one can't always depend there will be a body of water upon which to ditch....LOL. BTW, where is your son stationed? Is he east coast or west coast Navy?
Cindilynn, Hi5's to ya lovie!!! I understand your dilemma well. Don't you just love the 12 hour shifts that never end on time?!? You'll find several of us nurses around this place. It's such a great escape for us from the reality we sometimes can't seem to escape from in our jobs. I work 12's too, but for the first time in 34 years, I'm working part time (5-12's), though at times I pick up enough extra shifts because of staffing or illness, I end up putting in the full time schedule. I don't mind so much though, it keeps me out of trouble and off the streets, and I'm NOT obligated to work full time, I can say "NO"!!!!! No is such a hard word for us health care professionals to say. We get the guilts, feel badly for the patients and our co-workers when they have to work short so by definition, we are a bunch of saps.
Marie_ I'm sorry about your kitty. It's a terrible shame when one gets attached to a critter just to have it be ill. I wish you and the kitty the best of luck and hopefully Remington can be cured quickly and with little more expense. You have a huge decision in front of you and I don't envy you having to make it one bit. Whatever the decision is, stay strong.
Well, lovies, I don't mean to slight anyone, I just wanted to hit the highlights this morning. I have an appointment with the ophthalmologist this morning. It's a follow up for the punctum plugs I had implanted last month. I'll make a quick commissary run afterwards, then come back home and put in some more time studying. I bid each of you a wonderful day today and whatever your plans, may they turn out as you hope. Hugs to all! ~Babs~
Woohoo, doin' the Happy Dance here, cable tech came at 9 and I'm up and rolling!
Be spending some time spent getting all my favorites and such loaded into this little machine, and I am awkward with the keyboard and such, but I will manage it.
Marie, if you go back a few days to some of the prior day's postings you will see that a friend of mine ran into a similar situation with an adoptee from a rescue place. Cat was supposedly checked by a vet, but since he managed to hide himself under a dresser when she got him home, it was a while before she got him to her vet. He had badly treated earmites, a URI virus, and ringworm. He also need some dental work. I don't even want to know what her vet bills have been. Of course she is keeping him but we are telling everyone not to use purebredcatrescue because of this. I was on the list for another meezer (Siamese) but they said she had a "cold". After my friend's experience, I took myself off the list. Some cats do well with FLV once treatment starts, so we'll hope for the best for poor Remington.
Going back to the desktop and see if I can move some of my favorites over to the laptop. Going to be a looong day, I fear...
Well, was gonna post a pic of a little flower I found blooming in the yard yesterday, but puter is being slow, and times out. So maybe another day.
Went to the eye dr this morning, checked the MD, and as I suspected, it is worse. Then on to get a hair cut, a stop at walmart, the bakery and home.
Thought my back was better this morning, but after getting in and out of the car several times, it is hurting like the dickens again. So my afternoon, is gonna be spent on the couch with the heating pad.
Hello all to the newbies, Kidneyguy, nanniebee, Marie_, usually I am a very frequent sight here, but have not been feeling well the last couple of days. Soon as I get the kinks worked out of my back, I will be here all the time.
You all have a good day, and I will check in later to comment. Have to get a bite to eat, and then some serious down time.
BBL
Welcome Dianne, Nancy, Cindi, & Marie and a wholliping good morning to you Susan, Elaine, Maria, Sarv, Ann, Darius,Sheila, Oz, Lauri, Molly and Babs, and all the ship at sea. The rain has almost stopped and perhaps today will evolve into the super califragilistic day we had yesterday. Got all the roses pruned and filled the yard-waste container for the monday pick-up, but it never came. Called, and they are supposed to send a truck this morning. Have to get the wheeled containers out to the curb by 6:00 am, but the trucks rarely ever get here before 10:00, or later. Was up at 4:00 and out pruning shortly after sun up (and on the computer) and never heard (ha !) or saw sign of a truck. TV room re-do is finished, if you don't count trying to find a place for "leftovers" due to removal of ugly storage furniture. Little by little and bit by bit it will sort itself out. Immy is back to what passes for 'normal'. She snuck out of the utility room, where I feed her now, without her 10 - 15 cooling-off period after eating. Tinker and she met in the sunroom, Tinker in an avoiding mode and Immy with her cute little tail straight up like a flagpole in her stalking stance. Then she (Immy) attacked poor little (though physically larger and older) Tinker. Had to grab her by the scruff and toss her down on her back and give her a raging discourse on how that was not an acceptable practice for a young lady in this household. We are all happy now and I've finished my oatmeal and coffee.
Boy Dianne, your SG activities sound fascinating. Can you post some pictures ? I could sure use some of your help in finishing the Mackintosh window (about 32" X 60") that has been languishing in the shed for so long. Great hobby, but I think it would take a lot of talent and drive to make a living at it. You are a pretty impressive lady. Your home sounds like a paradise.
Hey Sarv, how's the hair ? Crank up that old furnace, that's what it was built for. Meatloaf sounds good for breakfast.
Maria, hope you are feeling better.
Ann, hope the deposit book turns up, and was in a "safe place" all the time.
Cindi, your 11 acres and all the plantings sounds wonderful. The nurses in our hospital's Coronary CCU were really great, and later the nursing-aides, or whatever the appropriate term is, were super. We are lucky to have a Community College in Everett with an excellent Nursing curriculum, and it's only a couple blocks from the hospital with the Coronary facility. Hats off to all you nurses.
Meezer, the computer hook up guys sound pretty accommodating, hope you get the laptop working.
Marie,so sorry to hear about Remington, hope he is getting better and the Vet has something to say about the Shelter.
Oz, writing to the top with complaints works, sometimes. A letter to the CEO's at Microsoft and AOL did get a response from their underlings, but so far 'The Bush' hasn't responded to my letter, nor has that Cheney guy.
Laurie, it's a sad day when HD replaces a competent manager with one who doesn't give a rip. So far our HD is a total waste of time. Salespeople give wrong directions, can't be bothered seeing that you get what you were after, etc.
Well Babs, the rain has stopped here, hope its drying out on the Island too. DW spent many years working with an ENT Doc as an OR nurse. Lots of standing. Now does part time pre-op calls and enjoys being around all the gals she's known for so many years. What's DH gonna do next year when he doesn't have the Navy to take care of ? And will you just be cast adrift with no 12 hour shifts to occupy your time ? Retirement is a big step.
Enough of this idle prattle. Time to get up and do something, even if it's wrong. Measure once, cut twice. Saved ! DW just came in and said we should give the dogs a bath in my Darkroom sink. Maybe it's time to move the cameras and developing tanks, the dogs are already "fixed". (a lame photography pun) Then search for some decorative cord with which to hang the pictures from my new picture rail. That, along with a nap, should fill out the day. Best wishes, thoughts and regards to you all.
Robert---- They never do and that includes your congressamn and senator. If you write to them aboput something they send it to the goverment department that covers that. you rep are senator send a copy of your letter and a note saying please formulate a reply for this individual and return to my office. In effect writing the letter for the congressman. Heos she will usually add a line like. I have been in contact with the ------- and they have informed me blah blah blah. I have answered to many to count of those things. We called them congressionals. You cannot believe how slowly even congressional move through the system.
Hi All,
Just a quick checking in,,,,between customers. Will bbl to comment more. Hi to all the newbies,,,welcome to coffee,,,,the more the merrier!
Bill has the South half of the roof torn off, cleaned up, tar papered, storm guard and new boot on and is now putting shingles on. I picked a color of shingles that I liked yesterday and he went to get them,,,I just didn't want to be in a vehicle after the weekend. Also had lots to do with being gone for 2 days.
Anyway, Bill gets home and tells me the shingles are too light. We have a white house with brown trim (don't particularly care for it, but that's how it was when I bought it). I thought they looked fine. I wanted a bit lighter so the roof didn't absorb so much heat. Well, Mr Whiner B&M'd so much last night, All night, I told him to go back and get the darker shingles for goodness sake. So, he drove another 70 miles round trip. He could have looked at both colors up on the wall and just brought the other ones home and told me they looked better,,,,grrrrr
Marie,
I'm so sorry to hear about Remington. Poor little thing. I know nothing of that sickness so I can't even comment on it,,,,just am really sorry to hear it.
Have all kinds of stuff popping up. Dianthus, Creeping Phlox, Creeping Speedwell, Campanula, some Heucheras are looking nice, Snow in the Summer looks great, Irish Moss,,,,I'm mighty tempted to get out and get the beds uncovered,,,,but am too scared we'll still have icky weather. I think I could uncover the bed that's along the East side of the Salon? Will see how things look out there later. Won't have time til the weekend anyway.
Well, bb after work,
Kelly
Whooptedu ! The kids sparkle. That rascally Immy has a beautiful coat, I had a passing thought about taking her to the groomer and having her done in a Show coat for a portrait, but it passed. Too bad she's so small. Here's little Her doing her imitation of a soggy doggie, actually, it isn't an imitation is it ?
Afternoon all
I know I'll never do justice to everyone but wanted to stop by again and say hi to all our new members. This is just wonderful to see so many newby's here at coffee.
I am so excited as I got more typing today. This is getting to be really something. Haven't gotten another thing accomplished around here, though. Did put the maters out to sun themselves today. Am getting them ready for the big bad world. Will be planting out most of them this week-end. I'm planting in containers, so if Mother Nature pulls any more stunts I can still drag them under the carport for a bit of protection.
Kelly, so glad you're getting that new roof. One thing about the darker color ... at least it won't show tar, etc if you have trees close to the house. Plus he's sure doing a fast job. :)
Oz, way to go with your letter! I'm afraid I'm good at grumbling but not much on letter writing.
Defoe, so sorry your back is giving you fits. Thanks again for your help with the RR info. You're a jewel!
Who was it that got the sick kitty? Marie was that you? Ooooh, that's *terrible*! So sorry about that. Here's the 2X4.
Hi and welcome to our new nurse. You and Babs will have lot's to talk about. My niece is graduating from nursing school with honors in May. *beaming*
Sarv, I thought about you this morning. I actually had left over chicken enchilladas for breakfast. LOL
Mary, so glad you're back and you had a nice time. Hope all is going well with your company.
Meezers, I'll be picturing you every time you post, kicked back in some comfy recliner with Sammy on your lap. No fair!!
Well, this is getting waaay too long so I'll just say hi to you Darius, Marie, Maria, Lauriwilson, McCool, DMC, Mags and the rest of the gang. The senior thing has kicked in and I can't remember everyone to mention by name! LOL Will try to check in again later.
Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)
Hi Folks,
Well the deposit book hasn't shown up. I checked the grocery store twice and the bank and the parking lot near where I was parked yesterday. Dunno what happened to it. anyway, I've pretty well constructed what was in it. Will asked the bank for print-outs to confirm what I've constructed.
Just finished teaching and want to drop by another grocery store since one student came yesterday and I finished early. Tuesday evening, the price of gasolline often goes down. I hope so. Am on about a quarter tank and it's been between 94 and 98 cents a litre for regular. (Add on 11 cents for me as I need hi test.)
I'll try to check in later.
Chat is not working tonight for me either, SARV, so it is not you
Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)
Hi, it's me again, well, first time today. Things are busy with 6 guests but I did get to go for about a 2 hour ride on Patch while they went shopping. He needs to be ready for a 50 miler in about 3 weeks and I needed to work some of the stiffness and soreness out of the muscles I over used this past weekend. We saw a lot of deer and one coyote, then on the way home there was a hawk on a fencepost that did not fly away even though I passed by about 20 feet away, I hope he wasn't hurt. Now I have to get out the bird book to ID him.
Hello and welcome to all you new people. It's wonderful to have you join us. I guess you looked long enough to decide we are only a slightly wacky bunch, harmlessly entertaining each other and those who happen in to listen.
Missing a few days here since I haven't read Friday-Sunday's posts, so I will just ask, what did Samson do to hurt you Maria?
The sick kitty situation is so sad. I think somebody really dropped the ball on this one, or maybe more than one. Ask for copies of their paperwork on the cat. I have a kitty who tested positive for FIV which is not as serious I believe, but if he ever gets an infection he will have a hard time fighting it. I had him vaccinated for FLV, and my others vaccinated for both. Keep us up to date on how Remmington is doing. What is the treatment for FLV?
This morning I noticed that the red tailed hawks are building a new nest in our cottonwood trees. The great horned owls have taken over their old nest and are already working on hatching eggs. So the hawks have to build a new nest. The owls aren't next builders so they are nest stealers.
Got to get the laundry off the line and put a salad together to go with the lasagna that is in the oven and smelling soooo good! See you later, maybe just to read and try to stay caught up.
Oh, here is a question for all of you. Do you think we have an obligation to act happy even when we don't feel happy, to be a positive influence to those around us, and to show gratitude to God for the blessings we have in such abundance? I know we all have a down day now and then, so this is something to think about and maybe you would like to comment.
~~~ to everyone I missed this time.

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Hi ya Mary, looks like the Endurance competitions are on the move already. Being too urbanized has me at a disadvantage as far as really being able to comprehend the mileage you are adding up on those long rides. Downright amazing. Best wishes for you coming out on top this year. Do you think the new group will be better ?

Good question. Should we put on a false face so as to be a positive influence ? Easy answer is "it depends", and yes it does depend on the situation, but I think that 'To thy own self be true" is also very important. Sad is Sad, and to stifle our our emotions too much is not benefiting anyone. Hypotheticaly, if you have a friend who is down and out wouldn't you be inclined to do what you were able to help them ? Therefore, is it out of line to think that they might feel the same way towards you should the shoe be on the other foot ? It isn't really an obligation as much as who we are, and we are all different.
Being grateful for for what we have goes without saying.
Enough philosophizin, the salad and lasagna sounds great. How big a batch do you make ? I had a wonderful recipe that made about an 11 pound batch, but lost it "somewhere safe".

Mary, in answer to your question ... I believe it's important to stay cheerful and put your best foot forward in life. To me ... my life is my testimony. Of course, I don't always succeed ... but I do so want to make those around me smile. If I'm having a bad day, I keep it at home. As for showing gratitude to God for the blessings I have ... that's easy! I have been sooo *very* blessed. :)

... Elaine
