Spring bulb pics and talk: Part V

Denver, CO

All winners, Wallaby. Double Fancy.
Thanks for the reminder that 'Jetfire' goes orange with age, not youth; I was mildly disappointed.
What is growing about the bases of your T. 'Shakespeare'?

I've got N. 'Spellbingder' going now. Opens yellow, then the interior flushes to white. Pictures on thier way.

The green stuff is chickweed, I leave some patches for the budgie, he goes into depression if he doesn't have his daily green. He has become fussy though and mostly prefers the seed heads.

There are ferns near the front edge, don't know what type (catalogue misnamed) but they have quite large fronds and are quite interesting, I will get some pics when growing. It is quick to multiply so I divided it and spread it along, it does tolerate a lot of dryness there but seems to like to be well drained, I gave a large one to my daughter and she drowned it.

Got to get a pic of my Acacia, from the upstairs window it looks to have mostly opened and is covered with yellow blossom.

Sun is shining, got to go!

Longmont, CO(Zone 5a)

My first daffodil just bloomed yesterday! None of the others I planted have emerged yet, but it's wonderful to see just the one. I didn't think it would bloom before the crocus. I'm very excited.

(Zone 7b)

At last!
Notice the dog tail in the right hand side of the photo - himself decided to get into the shot just as I took it:

I love it.

They remind me of W P Milner in their form, I wonder if it is a parent. That is only 6-8" tall but an old variety

They are very pretty, love the contrast and long trumpet. No name?

Narc. pseudonarcissus species blood?

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Not sure what you meant by the 'blood', but it looks a lot like N. pseudonarcissus

There are also pics of N. pseudonarcissus ssp. pseudonarcissus, the trumpet is wider at the end

This is a very interesting site with thousands of field pics, links at the bottom

Sorry: Breeding. Genetic material. Parentage.

I've been enjoying everyone's pics so much (but secretly whining). Finally, I have something to post. Yea! My purple Iris retic. have been open for a couple of days but I've been waiting on these cute little guys ~

Ooooooh, ooooooh, ooooooh!!!!!!!! I planted some iris reticulata last fall, but no signs of blooms on them yet. I'm in the same zone you are, but I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything. What is that one called, Moby? It's GORGEOUS! I want some!!

Ah that blood. like horses.

heres my three colours of primrose, the purple one is a bit more of a vibrant violet purple, it is the parent of the other 2

Gack!! I don't know the name! I ordered a bunch of stuff from buggycrazy last fall and just happened to ask if she had any 'blues'. She did but didn't know the name. But I sure like them!

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Beautiful blue retics.! there are some nice blues I think on the Pottertons link above.

I did wonder why my post took so long!

ooh! ooh! ooh! (hand raised way up) Some of my species tulips have sprung up. Sorry I don't know the name, but they are about 6" when in bloom and a pretty lavender/pink. I moved them last fall, so I'm pleased to see they made it.

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Good to see those Avalons, Steve! I planted some of those for the first time last fall, and I'm looking forward to seeing them in bloom!

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

beaker where is the pic? Does it have a yellow centre?

Steve I was wondering where all yours were, and you're back! Love that Avalon, love all of them, your beds are so full!

my red primrose is not as dark as usual, it is rather like the pic shows

Sorry, Wallaby. I don't have stock in any of the digi camera companies like you must. LOL, I keep meaning to buy one, but everytime I get a few dollars ahead, I find a new plant that I just gotta have.

I'm trying to remember, yes, I do think it has a yellow center. I've had them for about eight years now. They are "just" up and haven't bloomed yet.

Corte Madera, CA

LOVE ALL THE PHOTOS! Thank you all for sharing =))).

Steve, I, too, was wondering when you'll post again. Wow, what a parade of blooms.

I have GREAT NEWS. An angel from bloomingbulb.com e-mailed me after reading my neutral post (GW), and they would like to make it right. So, I'm happy, happy. My original order was for 100 daffs and tulips. I asked if I could get lilies instead. We'll see...

=)

I hope you are all having a great week so far. We've been getting so much rain here in the Bay Area. Broke the hundred year record already. In March alone, 25 days of rain! Feels like Seattle kind of thing...

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

Steve I love the Avalon daff.
Moby the iris is just awesome.
Janet the red hot primrose, wow.

I am so glad you guys share your beauts!

Annapet, not surprised that ETGB is trying to make right by you. Hope you get what you want, including some sunshine. What is it with this crazy weather?

Well thanks all - just finally got around to taking some more pictures today!

Thanks kbaumle - I am really surprised how muich I like Avalon - please post pictures of yours when they bloom!

I like the red primrose wallaby - from the side before they really open they look kind of like red crocuses!

I agree about Moby's Iris Reticulata - probably the prettiest variety I have seen.

Well Moonglow - glad to see Bloomingbulb made right by you. You'll have to post pictures when your stuff blooms. How are your peonies coming along??

Corte Madera, CA

Steve, my PEONIES have buds and they are getting more plump by the day! Thank you for asking. Their eyes doubled this year, so I'll have fuller foliage as well. Love your Tahitis with the lilies emerging in the background. What is the leafy beauty on the right side? Related to gunnera?

Yeah, Nery. Crazy weather, I tell ya. But it should be easier for me now to pull those agapanthus plants...

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Such great pics everyone! Love the primula Janet, and Steve, beautiful as always-love Avalon. Yesterday the sun was shining and I got to play in the dirt all day-Yipee! The white snow crocus are thrilling me now, and the scattered clumps effect I was going for comes off pretty good. Here's a clump of them:

I'm enjoying Ruby Giant with the purple-ish foliage of Geranium biokovo 'Karmina'.

I'm finding colorful, emerging foliage of many perennials are lovely accents for spring bulbs. This being my first year with Virginia Bluebells (Mertensia), the plum tinted emerging leaves was a nice suprise. The color echo and contrast is'nt as striking in the pic, but the chionodoxa stems pic up the color of the Mertensia foliage behind it and the bloom color is set off my the darker plum.

Moby your Iris could be Margeurite, it has the yellow stripe (Gordon has orange) and lots of white 'reticulation', it says the leaves have a gold edge, does yours? The pic can be enlarged but not much, this is one I thought I would buy and not too expensive at £0.15, (27c) each.

beaker I got my camera at the 'end of line' and got it much cheaper, from Amazon, they didn't have them within a week of me buying it. If you watch they buy up remaining stocks, Sony bring out new models all the time. Your tulip sounds like T. saxatilis Lilac Wonder

http://www.nccpg.com/gloucestershire/plantweek1d.html

Mg lucky you! It goes to show making a public complaint can work wonders. I've got a sudden bud on one of my peonies too!

Neal I can imagine what your woodland will look like when full of spring bulbs, Pottertons have Mertensia and it's on my list.

Southeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Moby, you have an actual iris retic already!!!??? I'm jealous. Only thing going on here is some tulips sprouting. I won't have anything blooming for a while yet. You're only a few miles from me! Color me jealous. I guess I already said that.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

My agapanthas are not blooming. The foilage is very healthy and green the old stems are bright green but no blooms/My neighbors agapanthus are blooming.I don't recall having to prune them to promote bloom.
