Very fruitful trip to the plant sale

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

I'll try to get some good photos when that camera arrives!
Hopefully a good camera will make it look like I've actually got a few photography skills, lol!!

Lorry...I'd love to try a few selaginella cuttings.....I've tried rooting some in the past and wasn't successful, but if you've a few extra I'd love to try that one!

I've got to start 'digging things up' for you!!

That is a pretty geranium, begoniacrazii!!

Plectranthus are cool, I agree....I have a couple myself.
Most of them are quite minty....there's a couple that downright 'stink', IMHO!!! Lol!! Even the stinky ones are pretty, though!

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I only have the one in the above photo...I can split it out with roots to share with you and april and probably one more person :) So definitely Nan..You are welcome to one.
This one doesn't have an odor to it though LOL..I guess I should count myself LUCKY

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'd love some Creeping Charlie in my box, thanks!!

I've got a big pot of variegated Cuban Oregano (also a plectranthus)... Just took a dozen cuttings to root in water... Anybody want one in their trade box? It has a strong herbal odor. Last summer, the plant had white leaf margins, which have faded to chartreuse & green variegation this winter... I'm guessing new growth will go back to the original variegation once the weather warms up. Lovely soft, fuzzy leaves!

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Just added to your list Critter!

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Oh Oregano...I would love some Critter :)
I also have yoru fishtail but out and rooting nicely :) (at least I think this was you that asked for it) LOL..this is my memory when not looking at my wishlists.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yay for the fishtail palm! I'm very excited about this one... LOL, all my whinging about not enough space for plants, and yet I can make room for another big pot when it's something I *really* want!

I'll add cuban oregano to your list, Lorry.... FYI, it is not at all the same as Italian Oregano... entirely different plant. I do have some greek oregano that's coming back nicely in a window box out back... I could probably pry out a little division of that for you if you'd like it!

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

hehe Chris is happy to share it..and they are so cheap down here and grow so well and since they are clumpers..you can always pull some :)

Nope I know about cuban oregano..I have seen it at fairchild gardens :) it is SOOO PRETTY :)....I have regular oregano in my herb garden :)

Thansk Critter ..You are such a doll!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Lali mine is the variegated like in your picture bottom left hand corner. Oh did you send me some ? I have some plants start with a P growing like a weed fro a cutting from you. What do they do ? Do they flower ?

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Yes, I sent you plectranthus too, cant recall which kind but they should have a name tag. Or take a photo and I can id from that.
I love the one in your front yard, I lost mine. the last little snip is in my perlite tray. boo hoo.

Next box, maybe you can snip me a piece of yours along with your beauy of an Epi!!

And yes they do bloom profusely!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Hmmm... my Cuban Oregano has never bloomed, but that may be just because I keep snipping it back! LOL It's getting nice & bushy in its pot, though...

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

now that you mention it Critter, neither has mine. Then again, I keep it 'bonsaied' in a tiny clay pot. My Vicks plant did bloom though. as did all my other plecs.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh yes I will send you some Lalie. My plants cutting you sent have all grown like weeds :))

I recently found the AV "Looking Glass" in Virginia. I think it is one of the most beautiful.

This is a really old thread from March 2006 but Wow, I am loving seeing all the pictures of the beautiful plants, so I'm glad Susan commented here which caused the thread to be bumped up to the top! That AV 'Looking Glass' is gorgeous! I found a pictire at the AVSA website too: http://www.avsa.org/Photographs/LookingGlassLrg.jpg#http://../Photographs/LookingGlassLrg.jpg%23

I have a leaf of Looking Glass coming--can't wait!

I walked into Merrifield Gardens looking for hoyas and not planning to get an african violet but they always have lovely variegated ones so I wasn't looking for AV or at least a solid green leaf, but this Looking Glass caught my eye and I couldn't move away from it...:-) So, needless to say, it came home with me. It is in my office in a self-watering pot(have never tried one before) and it seems to be thriving!

It is beautiful! I've been growing AV's for several years now, and only recently became aware of it. I generally grow mini's, but I had to have this one!

South, TX

Great plants you found! So pretty! Love the AV's!

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

This old thread brings up the question again that I've asked a couple of times in the recent past.....has anyone heard from Lorry lately?

Wow...'Looking Glass' is a beauty...so intricate.

Nan, I'll send you some leaves. I'm not sure how to propagate AV's, don't know if I have the patience but I just know you will.

Susan, check out this DG article http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/1996/ for a propagation tutorial, or look for propagation links in the sticky at the top of this forum. It's not tricky, but it does take patience waiting for those little "ears" to pop up!

Thanks Critter for the article. I just might try. :-)

:-)

You'll have lovely plantlets in time for spring/summer trades!

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Susan...thanks! You don't have to do that though.
As far as patience goes...the last time I propagated AV's from leaves...those that didn't rot took A YEAR to produce plantlets! LOL!
Amazes me how the folks on this forum can propagate so easily and quickly!

Yep, I was thinking it would take me a long time and I would get bored with all that. Seems like I did get one to root a few years ago in the Spring time and sent it to Mel with some trades but I don't know if she did anything with it or not. Speaking of Mel, I haven't seen her on these forums since I've been back.

On the other hand, I've had leaves send up ears in just 3 or 4 weeks... It's fun to grow them from a little sprig into a beautiful blooming plant!
