Coffee and...For Saturday, March 25, 2006 =^..^=
Morning all - I was up from 12:46am to 3:30 ish - the insomnia has returned!! I think Dave needs to have a night chat for those of us who are sleepless...I did sleep from 3 ish on til 6:30 tho, so I feel fine. Awoke to a house that was 59 deg and SNOW all over again -- sobbbbb. It is already melting off the pavement, so it won't stay long, but I just hate the sight of it.
Oh, I have a good one. A friend of mine is a principal (male) and his wife was a teacher, but stays home and homeschools now. Anyhow, she somehow got involved over the internet with selling soy candles - pyramid type thing. She has never hosted a party etc. Anyhow, last I talked to him, he joked and said when his wife was earning 10 gr a month, he was quitting his job. Guess what - he's quitting and they are moving to Fla. He's laughing all the way to the bank....
Defoe - regarding the funeral - he was a nice guy. The problem seems to be that he passed away on Wed afternoon, visitation was on Fri - it was never even in the paper!! He had no family etc. I imagine the night visitation would be more heavily attended - all their friends are young enough to be working (except us that retired!!)
9Kit- you are a treasure to stop and pick up a smooshed kitty. I don't know that I could do it unless it was my own. Weekly there are smooshed animals on our road- once in a while a deer, mostly coons and possums.
Laurie -use the 2x4 - I'll help you swing it! I've sometimes found PA's take more time with you, but I'd never want one for something serious.
M5 - I tell ya, you NEED one of these laptops (mine is called a notebook) It is wonderful to just grab it and plop in a chair. No more sitting at a desk for me.
Has anyone heard from Darius?? Where are you???
Oh, defoe, I've been a skater, singer, dancer and beautician and doctor all in former lives LOL
Good morning Sarv and every one that follows just got up but for some strange reason Samson woke me up at 2 AM he had to go out , he never does that, but I guess he thought he did not want to wait till now.
Sarv, there is a nightowl thread in DG It used to be very busy but I guees every one is now sleeping on a normal schedule.
Not as cold today as it has been but cloudy and sort of rainy too.
Need some coffee now, perhaps I see you later
Good Morning all,
Working down in Lauderdale and keeping very busy with that. We finish the interior of this house today, take tomorrow off then back to the exterior Monday. We had some rains and high winds these past couple days. No time to have ds on that high ladder in the winds.
Darius is fine. Got a note from her last night. She has company in from out of state and will check in soon periodically I am sure. She tells me we have more frost warnings up there. And I thought spring was there to stay.
I went plant shopping the other day. I have a nursery here who lets me buy wholesale. I picked up some lovely salvias (8 pots) 2 large macho ferns for my forest driveway, a couple different elephant ears, 2 miscanthus. Additionally, when I stopped to drop my critters mid state, I met up with a DG member and I received 3 bougainvillas, a whole bunch of elephant ears and a tray of Loves Lies Bleeding. These babies are growing like crazy. I have one other nursery I would like to go to. Maybe this afternoon or Monday I can make it over there.
But for now, better get to work. Need to finish up inside today.
Molly
:^)))
P.S. With all these plants, I may need to make a special trip back from taking plants home to get the critters. :^))))

Good monring everyone,
Trying IE (instead of the new version of Netscape) this morning and I got into three previous threads including coffee for yesterday, but when I first tried to get into THIS one, it told me only PAID members could get in. Dunno why Daves didn't remember my sign-in. But I did eventually get here; so I guess that's all that matters.
Now to try to catch up with yesterday - I never did get to post although I popped in a few times to read.
Sarv - very strange that only three people showed up to that visitation. Were there many longer hours and other people came later? Or just the poor notification?
Suzi - hope you got the taxes dropped off and the laundry monster tamed.
Woodspirit - lovely falls. How high are they? They remind me of some going into Cayuga Lake in NYS north of Ithaca those those are certainly nowhere near as high.
Maria - glad to see Samson free and happy again.
Elaine - sorry about the flood. Hope you got it all mopped up with no damage. Does this happen regularly?
Sheila - if life begins at 40, I'm only 21. LOL
re the unrun dishwasher, my previous dishwasher would turn on as soon as the door was really firmly closed. The new one (maybe 4 years ago) requires me to push a button. I still regularly load it up with soap, close the door firmly and go away without pushing that button.
Oz - did you have soap suds all over the kitchen? LOL
They're HOME! Got here abt 7 pm last night and the baby was waiting. She was so excited to see her mom. She's just 3 months so I guess I'm not sure how much they know but she was funny, cooing and cooing non stop. Made me get all teary, seeing them so happy together. :) And Kandyce may only hold her, she cannot pick her up at all. She may only lift 5 lbs for the next month. DS was kidding her, guess I'll carry your purse! lol
I better get moving, hafta shower, get MIL dressed and work 10 -2, my first day back. Probably should have taken it off too, not sure I'll have a voice that long. Throat is extremely painful when swallowing but otherwise don't feel too bad.
Winter - we got 5" of snow on Tues and the tips of the daffs are yellow now. Looks a bit funny. And the rascally rabbits have already found the tips of the tulips and nibbled them off. They sure don't like the daffs and alliums. Time for the .22, me thinks.
have a good day all (psst. anything raspberry will be scumptious, I'm sure!)
Laura
So very happy for you Kooger, the picture brought back memories from such a long time , they were the best year of my life
Getting ancy with the "send" button again instead of flipping back to yesterday's thread. Like before, I guess it's better than losing a post.
defoe - nice bird bath that you showed earlier. What kind of glue do you use to keep it together?
kooger - hope the kids got home safely with a minimum of discomfort. 250 miles is a lot of ground to cover right after surgery.
Kelly - praying that all works out for Bill.
I also used to like to skate but nothing like your niece. I grew up along the Erie Canal (or the New Yrok State Barge Canal as it was called in those days. They've now reverted to the old name of Erie). I was given skates when I was 12 that were a half size too big in case I grew. I still have them and they are still a half size too big. We used to go out on the canal and shovel off the snow and skate. If we were lucky we'd get a cold patch without snow and then one could skate farther. When I was in grad school at the University of Illinois, I took a figure skating course just for a lark. But when I got my first teaching job in Danville, IL, that extra credit put me in a higher salary bracket. LOL
Up here in Ottawa, we have the Rideau Canal which winds through the city (and farther). Five miles of it are groomed and flooded for skating each winter. I used to love getting out on it and it would take about an hour to skate from one end to the other and back. But eventually, the boot on those old skates wore out. I bought a new pair (expensive ones, I though, but not like your niece's). I found the blade had so much rocker than I couldn't skate safely on them. So I did more figure skaitng in rinks for a year until I gave myself plantar fasciitis from sll the stree on the arches doing inside and outside edges in circles. Unfortunately, I never did get those skates so that they would work on the canal and after tinkering with the sharpening several times, I finally put them on the help yourself table at the Food Cupboard about 10 years ago and haven't skated since. Too bad, because I really enjoyed it.
Maria, I agree - you ARE too lucky. Maybe we should all start a Coffee.. pool and have you look after it for us with your luck on lottery tickets. There is a Casino across the river in Quebec, but I've never been to it. Might consider it sometime now that the smoking is being restricted in that province. Years ago, there was a night at the races for the Food Cupboard and I bet a bit on the horses, but quite conservatively. Ended up about breaking even.
Lauri - you use that 2 x 4! And glad you finally got to a real Dr.
defoe - that unintentional skating is the worst kind. I did just that about 20 years ago immediately AFTER skaiting the canal end to end and back without falling. Fell on ice while walking back to my car and made a mess of my face.
Susan - I agree with you about cats just left on the raod. Sad isn't it.
You take it easy - remember that shoulder. Still sounds to me like you're doing a bit more than you should.
Well, I guess I'm mostly caught up. ~~ to anyone I didn't specifically mention. Hope you all have a good day.
I've got the Bartok concert tonight. Need to get some solid practicing in today. Got into the church last night. The very different accoustic, slightly cramped space, et al, the first time through it was like I'd never seen the music before. It was better by the end of the evening, but I still need to work on a few things. I think the Bartok Divertimento is under-rehearsed and that's scary. Goes with the territory when you premiere a work by a living and local composer, I guess. Their piece tends to get more than its share of the rehearsal time because the composer is hanging around.
Gotta go.
Ann
Morning all
I was up late last night and got up at 7:30 ... couldn't sleep but feel okay today. Have to go to the cleaners to drop off a few things before 12:00 for spring.
Ann~ good luck with your concert. Sounds like you had such a great time skating. the only kind of skating we do way down south is roller skating unless you go to a coliseum where they have ice skating. LOL
Kooger~ glad to hear the kids made it home safe. Will continue to keep y'all in my prayers. Please do try to take care of yourself while you're taking care of everyone else, okay? :)
Susan~ you're such a sweetie to do that. I do get so frustrated with people for letting their pets roam. That just *kills* me. :-(
Molly~ good to hear from you. Glad your job is going good. Thanks for letting us know Darius is okay. :)
Hi Maria and Samson!
Well, I've closed my thread on the ID forum. Seems everyone thinks it's a moon flower. I'll post another pic when it blooms. Can't wait as it's suppose to smell heavenly! :)
Well, let me go. Am waving to those I've missed ~~~ Will check later.
... Elaine
Good morning all, I am having a lazy morning, Have to go to the library, but I'm in no hurry.
Glad the kids got home. That is a good picture of the baby.
Sarv, sorry that you didn't sleep well, I evidently didn't move all night. Feel sort of hung over from the hard sleep. Did you say you have been a DR? a real one, or the kind all moms are?
Viann, good luck with the concert. You sure do put in a lot of time practicing and playing. Dedication if a good thing. Loved the story about skating the canal.
Maria, Samson probably had too much to drink before going to bed. We do that too occasionally!! Glad he is back to his old self.
101 I saw your ID question, but didn't know what it was. Please let us know when it blooms, and if it is supposed to be fragrant, so much the better. Hope you got the water mopped, and a bonus, clean floors.
Well, I'm gonna head out, do the errands, and try to plan something to cook for the weekend.
BBL
Someone mentioned a "night chat".....well, this one was going strong for a long time. I don't stop by as much as I used to, but it's nice to know some night owl is usually there in the wee small hours if you need company.

Defoe - LOL - it is a joke in my family - I am always diagnosing everyones illnesses! And often I am right!! So my sis always refers to me as 'doc'. Then when I got the credit card that had me listed as a Doc, it caused major laughter in the family.
I've planted a ton of more seeds today. Sure wish it would warm up so I can get them into the greenhouse.
DH is not feeling well at all. He is never sick, so that makes me worry. He did something to his arm and has been complaining about it for two weeks - sounds like the same thing I had that took over a year to get better. He said he feels like he is getting the flu...but he went out to the barn to putz. He will never go to the doc, which makes me ticked...
Lunch time- gotta bamboose
Yippee! I solved the FONTS problem. Thesolution was to copy the fonts onto a memory stick from the old computer and then copy them onto the new computer. Now why didn't I think of that sooner?
Beginning to think about planting seeds here too. I've never winter sowed and I gues it would just be spring sowing now, but would it work if I put winter hardy seeds outside in planters? The big problem around here is enough good light. I only have two banks of grow lights and I already have a number of plants under them. But I guess I could plant the winter hardy ones that aren't bothered (maybe even helped along) by freezing out in covered planters in a sunny spot. Anybody tried that?
Gotta go.
Ann
Ann--- yes I did. Made a awful mess. Jammed up the drain pipe with the suds and had to use my shop wet dry vac to get it all cleaned up.
Sarv--- The interent is full of free chats like Star Chat. But I do not recommend going to any of them. I have been in about all of them. They are not the people you have here for sure. I still go to one onece in awhile that is all people in there late 60s and early 70s. Only reason i do that is I have met some of them and I did a couple of helping things for them. I would reconmend reading though.
oz - I am hesitatant at going to many chats other than here - been on some really weird ones. I'm getting a little more careful about that kind of thing...
DH and I are off to get some glow plugs for his old 1985 pick up - I think it should hit the junk pile, but he loves it. Wants to drive it until it croaks....unfortunately it is still going strong!!
Well, it has been a pretty lazy day here. I did move some trays from the garage into the house, and sowed some seeds, which I covered and put outside, just putzing around.
I am trying to think of something good to fix for tomorrow's dinner. I have potatoes baking, and gonna have tequila lime chichen with salad tonight, but not idea about tomorrow.
Gonna have to do some paperwork tonight, so better get the supper thing out of the way, don't want to be all night with the papers. Ugh.
I will check in later.
tequila lime chicken sounds good. Is it easy?
Ann
Hi everyone! When I got home from runing errand yesterday, I couldn't get back into DG! Something went screwy with the "cookies" think on my puter. DBIL come over tonight and clicked a few buttons and now it's fine.
Boy do weekends go fast. It's raining here right now. We really did need it. Supposed to stop by tomorrow morning, and get up to 50. I hope to do lots of yard clean up tomorrow and dig out an area for new flower beds in the front of the house.
I have 3 sets of eyes staring at me right now. I always feed the critters at 8:p.m. It's 8:18 now and they are letting me know I'm late with their grub, LOL. I had kitty pic's to post, but I also can't unload pics from the camera. Forgot to ask DBIL about that one when he was here.
Have a good evening!
Hi,
~~~~~~~~~~ at everyone! I have been keeping up with all of you as far as reading your posts goes, but seem to be retaining even less than usual, so am not even going to TRY to respond to individuals.
My head's been aching for a few hours now for some reason and we have to get up extra early tomorrow to head for a trade show and seminar in Boston.
Maria, I do hope that Samson does not make a habit of middle of the night excusions. You've had enough trouble sleeping without adding that to the mix.
9kitty, I hate seeing them in the road too, but if we tried to move them around here, we'd be smooshed in the road next. Way too much traffic.
Okay, I really do have to get to bed. Goodnight all.
Hi folks,
Concert went quite well. The last movement of the Bartok was a bit rocky at times, but the audience didn't seem to mind. Audience was heavy with the Hungarian community, naturally. Reception wasn't done too wll, I think. Large plates so everyone took 4 or 5 of the goodies which meant none left by the time the orchestra got there. No wine - but in the basement of a Presbyterian church, that's what one would expect. LOL There WAS a large birthday cake for the conductor though - his birthday today. Don't know how he managed to plan that. LOL
Well, on to the next. Ottawa Symphony is May 8. Major work on the program is Brahms 1st Symphony. It's a tour de force. Last time we played it, by the middle of the last movement I though I wasn't going to be able to hold up my viola till the end. This time, I vow to go into training. Try to get an hour daily of practice. Maybe some weights too. some pieces are like that - long. And requiring that you play all the time with no time to shake yourself out. As I recall, the notes weren't overly difficult, just the stamina required to get to the end.
Have a good night everyone. Up early tomorrow as the bells play. Have to be at church about 8:30 to get set up and do a run through.
Ann
Hi everyone
Well it's suppose to be pretty cold here tonight, so I've been dragging in all my tomato plants. the herbs will just have to make it on their own. *grin* Priorities, right! It's only 48, so I don't think it's going to do anything drastic.
McCool~ sure hope your headache is better in the morning. You certainly won't need that for tomorrow! Hope you have a wonderful day. :)
Defoe~ I've been busy going through the RR tonight. It will take a while, though. the DH is having to read the names to me and I'm typing them so I can look them up in the plantfiles. I don't know anything about flowers. :-( Sure wish there were more visual discriptions in the plantfiles so I know what they look like after I look them up!! I have to go to several web sites in order to get a visual discription.
How was your tequila lime chicken? You need to post that recipe in the recipe forum. It really sounds yummy!
Suzie, isn't it wonderful to have someone around who is computer literate? Don't know what I'd do without my DH. :)
Well, I'll try to check back before I go to bed but am going to get comfy for now.
... elaine
!
Hi all, I am back. The paper work took about 3 hours. DH just doesn't understand that you just don't write the check, but have to do the accounting as well. I try to keep all checkbooks current as well, so as to avoid embarrasement at the bank. I handle 2 cemetry accounts, 3 church accounts, 2 rental accounts, ours, (3), DM, and DMIL. So when I balance check books, I BALANCE CHECK BOOKS FOR HOURS!!
You all are giving me too much credit for the recipe for tequila lime chicken. I buy the frozen chicken tenderloins, and a bottle of marinade tequila lime. Marinate the chicken breasts, for about 3 hours, then put the chicken in a greased baking dish, add some more of the tequila lime marinade, butter, salt and pepper, and bake at 350 for about 40 minutes. Very good, and very easy. I do easy cooking, nothing gourmet.
101, if you need a visual, d-mail me, and maybe I can help describe for you, it would save you time looking it up on the computer plant files. I wouldn't mind at all. Sunday afternoons, are usually slow, so if you want, I can do that for you tomorrow. If that doesn't work for you, just let me know and we will set aside a time that i can help. Or have a list ready on Wed, and we will do it by phone.
McCool, sorry about the headache. Hope when you wake tomorrow it is history. Having to travel to the craft show is enough stress, without the headache. My Dr. said that due to the warmer temps we have been having, the allergy season, is not just a seasonal thing, but becoming a year round affliction. I usually only take my allergy meds from spring-fall. This year I have taken them all winter too. Are you up for a phone call Monday. I have a Dentist appointment at 9:00, so would be home around 11:00. LMK.
So several people are AWOL today, M5, Sarv, although she posted early,Darius, lauriewilson, Kittymom, Bal, DR,
Sarv, I laughed about the Dr. So you really got a credit card that said DR. I would have kept it, and used it.
This afternoon, moved some trays from the garage to the house. I think that it is too cool in the garage for anything to germinate. So will see. WAAH, I WANT A GREENHOUSE!! Potted some sweet potato vine tubers, winter sowed a tray of perennials and put out on the deck. Never done this before, so we will see if it works. When do I put in the dahlia tubers, and the glads? I dug them up last fall, as they don't overwinter here well.
Well going to check some other forums, and will be back.
Ann, so glad your concert went well tonight. Sure hope tomorrow goes good to. Hmm, I never thought about how difficult it must be holding it up for that length of time. I've only been thinking about having to practice the music. It's amazing what all I never consider. Do you use those little hand weights? Guess you don't need to, though, right? :)
Hi Defoe
Thanks so much. Will make a list and Dmail you tomorrow. And for the record please let me say, that wasn't a complaint about DG. I *love* DG. I just get frustrated sometimes because I have no idea what these plants look like and when I look them up a picture pops up! I just want to reach my hand through the monitor and get my fingers on it. LOL :)
Off to bed now ... night night ~~~
Oh I'm here, I just usually lurk during the day and then put in my two cents and start the daily and go to bed. I am in a rut. LOL
What did I do today??? Let's see??? Got up late, getting to normal instead of late, oh well.
I went out and potted up a couple of things, I had bought 3 toad lilies from WalMart for $1.88. You get what you pay for you know. I was going to send these in some of my swap boxes, so glad I didn't do that. Two of them were so dead, I wondered if they had ever lived. The third still had some life in it so it is potted up. I have no idea if it will grow or not. I am taking the two back to WalMart and hopefully getting my money back without a receipt. Or store credit or something. That's ridiculous, I don't care if it was just $1.88, you are supposed to have a living thing when you open it. sheesh
I also bought a butterfly weed, they have the big tap root you know. It was broken in half, so I don't know if that will grow either. Then the oxeye daisy looks sort of OK, not the best, but it is potted.
I'm going to quit buying tht kind of stuff there. I have bought some dahlias, calla bulbs, and gladiolas bulbs that were good. But I'm going to be darn sure that if I send something in a swap box that it is good stuff.
Poor little road kill kitty was still beside the road this evening. So now I'm madder still. If I couldn't find anyone of my 9, I would be out all night until I did. And if I found it killed on the road, it wouldn't still be there the next day. I don't know what people think when they get a pet. Sorry, that is a sore subject for me.
All those freezes don't seem to have hurt anything. Hooray....more and more sprouts coming out, tulips blooming now, and the grape hyacinths are fantastic. I really like those, I have been trying to collect all the different varieties, I have some white ones in with the purple ones and that looks really nice. They smell nice too Elaine, you ought to try them, I bet they would feel really neat when you touched them.
I want a greenhouse too, but it will never happen. I have a heck of a time finding room for all these trays and pots, etc. The cats have most of the plant stand so that won't work. Everytime I clean oout a new spot on a stand, I come back to find Furrbee, Bit or Asia Anne all bedded down in that spot.
We went to the movie tonight. Inside Man. It was a good movie, but the language, whew...you know you could get the same point across without talking like that. IMO
Well I went ahead and started tomorrow coffee thread
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/586047/
Hope you have a good night.
