Ali, it's spelled Chihuahua (I only know for sure since my one of my best friends has one whose name is Carmina Rodriguez Lupita or something like that)
At the AVSA meeting we discussed the fact that AV's have been hybridized to death, causing so many to be unstable. They were all complaining how unstable AV's are and how they sport all the time or revert. (I am thinking to myself, I LOVE sports! Some come out to be Chimera, and I had just phoned you about Irish Paradise) but I can see their point. If you WANT the original, then it can be frustrating to have every leaf you put down sport to some oddball. Tea (of teasviolets ebay) was saying the same thing on Violet Reflections forum. I said that I'd like to have her problem!!! AV's sporting all over the place! LOL.
I love the excitment of a sport. BUT if I paid big bucks like some one did for Silverglade Truffles ( they paid like $106.00 for the plant! )
ebay item 7752826732
then I would be pretty upset to have it revert to some plain single pink or something like that.
Next AVSA meeting is about hybridizing. I want to hybridize Heavenly Girl with something like Georgia Melon. OH MY! how pretty would that be. Variegatedd ruffled girl folage with Georgia melon flowers! (fainting!)
Here's my computer generated mock up of how I would want it to look.
hopefully I can learn to hybridize well and make the big bucks!

Every Morning I help Mom check our African violet !
Beautiful AF's, Violet and Begonia! Mom's little helper is a cutie!
:) Donna
WOW Lali . How will a mini progate with a Large growing AV ? You know if you want to name and register them you have to have written permision by the parents plant owners you use.
Yes Sports are going crazy. People on Ebay don't bother growing them out they just sell them Sport of this Sport of that. And people pay big bucks for. They don't even know if they will bloom the same way the second time. And buying and exspensive plant or leaf it may not bloom true.
Hek ever back 20,30, 40 years ago 50 years ago they were thrilled to have Chimera Sports and to see so many ! It's the only way to get them. Have you looked at the Sport list and see all of Ma's plants that come from Sports and Rob's also.??
I like a sport if it is Chimera , or better plant then the Mom plant !
There are so many older Vintage plants out there lost . No one grows them and share them like they should. If you don't put leaves down of your Vintage, rare, special plants and share them sooner or later they will be gone.
Thanks Donna :))
Hi peeps!
Sorry to butt in but talking about chimeras, where did you get your sunray trail from? Are they for sale like normal AVs? It si beautiful.
I bought SunRay Trail about last year around $53.00
Never seen it for sale any where else. It came alsmot dead. I got it living and it gave me some Bloom Stalk Baskets. Then I had bad case of Mealies just this plant as healthy and in bloom you's never know it. Thank God it was not near or with other plants. And it grew fast, always blooming you would never had expected this. Right now it went from a full 5 inch pot down to 2 inch no roots 3-6 leaf sucker bagged where it will be isolated for at least three more maybe a year if it lives.
Luckly the baby bloom stalk babies I grew some babies from 4 lived. They were about almost 1/4 inch round sucker bloom basket when I potted them up. I was able to give Lorry and Lali a baby plant. I have two small ones left. Snes I paid so much for it and I have never seen it before I will keep them until I am blessed with more basket bloom stalk babies Then I will be able to share again.
No vendors sell it.
" SunRay Trail " sported from a bi-color trailers called 'Even Star Trail'
Sunray Trail (6475) 02/03/1987 (C. Sotkiewicz) Single chimera fuchsia star/white stripe. Light green, spooned, pointed, quilted. Standard trailer
I'll tell you , the most healthy , blooming plant can be sick :((.
See this healthy plant . I bought it last Summer got it in September from Canada dried up out of pot almost dead. Rescued back to like fro 2 inch pot bagged isolated to 5 inch pan pot below always blooming and healthy. The plant is dead now except for 3=4 leaf crown bagged no roots :((
