Big site changes today - nothing visible but...

There might be some funny-ness going on around the site today as a result of a pretty big change I made to the internal code of DG. If anybody notices anything odd, please let me know!

dave

I haven't noticed anything funny, but the site is still a little slow for me at times. Other times it's like lightning, as usual. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to when it's slow and when it's not, so I assume it's a too-many-people-on-at-once problem.
Thank you for all the hard work you do for us, Dave! You are most appreciated!

Seattle Burbs, WA(Zone 8b)

Hi Dave, I cannot access some old journals - it keeps taking me back to my default journal.

Works great now, thanks Dave. :)

Much faster now than 3 hours ago - thanks, Dave!

This is moving along nicely now. Thanks Dave. I'll bet you are pretty tired of working on this problem.

I did a lot of work over the past 2 days on speeding things up. I won't go into the details but I think I've made a pretty big impact on the speed.

Moreover, I ordered yet another server 2 days ago.

King will be our newest database server, with two processors, lots of memory and fast SATA-II disks it should really be enough.

I really think that the slowness problems should soon be a thing of the past, once king is installed.

Great! Cruising ever-onward towards "Better-and-Better-Land"!

(Oh yeh, did you order the locking wall outlet so someone doesn't pull the plug again?) :>)

And yes, the site seems to be moving along nicely now! Thanks!

Better yet, the clowns that were sharing our rack are gone and so there's no more risk of someone goofing around in there. :)

Ahhhh.....(sigh of relief) :>)

Compton, AR(Zone 6a)

Since I am new here, I am wondering ... doesn't it slack off in the summer?

Uhhhh, no, not really. (I think even our hardcore gardeners come indoors to cool down, then spend a few minutes chatting here before heading back outside.)

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I always have to "look something up" and then I wander into a thread or two and get lost. LOL

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

flower on the address bar?

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

look up ^ do u see where the http:// space is located. u will see a lovely pink flower. if u do not see it, try to clear history and cache. hoping someone comes along to explain how to clear history/cache.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

You can only see the flower if using the Firefox browser. It isn't there in IE

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Thanks MaVie and Joan. I switched to FireFox and now I see the flower.

Very nice touch, Dave! :-)

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

always a pleasure to give a helping hand.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I didn't even come in for cool offs yesterday. LOL I did run by the computer on beverage runs and personal breaks but stayed focused and *barely* got pulled back in :) I was outside for about 8 hours yesterday, got my first sunburn and everything!

Nice flower Dave!!

LOL - I've already got poison ivy! LOL

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

Dave's Garden is really an addiction. I just have to come in several times a day to check everything out.

This addiction is pretty cheap at $15 a year. :)

Don't say that... He'll raise the subscription price!

dave

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

thank you Dave. i really like the cottage house banner/logo, it is super neat. hope others has seen it, or they are missing something. btw. the banners on other forums are also very nice. kudos to u for all the hard work and improvements u've done to make this site much, much better than it originally was.

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

Last night and again tonight, I've noticed a slow response and sometimes it comes back and tells me I have to be registered and logged on to post a reply. Haven't seen that before. Is there a problem?

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh that's why it was slow!
Lovely updates, and being new, I get to admire the new things with absolutely new eyes!
I did notice and greatly appreciate the little pink flower in the address bar.

Millersburg, PA(Zone 6b)

I noticed the pink flower too. How neat!

Dave, your site is being discussed on Tinkers, and I hear a lot of good stuff about 'our' site there, also.

I like the new spring banner of tulips. I'm having issues with speed. Sometimes it is taking so long to load I am getting the page not able to be displayed. Is this as a result of the new server?

I'm having trouble with pages taking forever to load, or not loading at all, too. It was better, but it's bad again. Strangely, I have had trouble loading the Round Robin forum every single time I try to go there, even if every other page is loading fine.

I spoke too soon. It's not better now. I keep getting a "Cannot find server" error.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Very slow to load and I keep getting a "Cannot find server" error also. It is soo bad that I don't have the time to wander around Dave's Garden.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I got logged out somehow tonight and had to log back in.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Slow, slow, slow. But I still prefer to be here.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

It was super slow last night. Other sites worked fine. Is this site overloaded?
Works fine this morning.
Bernie
