Time for baby photos
Oh my goodness April is that your Snow-Leopard ? WOW and I forgot I sent you one. Your plants has grown hugh I love it ! I do think it has the most pretties foliage and was noticing more the pretty shine after you mentioned it the other day ! I ready this is beacause the plant is healthy ! And some AV's just don't have the shiny type foliage. WOW I can't wait to see how your's does bloom as Lali's just opened and her's has Sported Green stripes WOW. I like wonderous surprise of a plant Sporting ! I just can't over how big your plant is ! Super growing.
Your leaves ook great ! you will have a ton of leaves. I have bought leaves from Velvet leaf before very nice !
Your Rob's Humpty Doo trailer is so cute ! It's a super nice growing trailer !
Thanks for sharing !
Alright April! Nice growing! Are you using the Texas method for your leaves?
Love all the baby photos!!
Great growing Laurie and April! I think theres going to be alot of trading going on pretty soon..
I have just seen this thread for the first time. I'm not sure how I missed it. But I almost flipped when I saw those little tiny pink leaves. I have to have some of those. I have fallen in love. If anyone has any to spare, I would devinitely love one. I have never seen pink babies before and I have been bit by the pinkies. Must have some. I don't have much to share yet but would gladly pay for some. I can't wait until I have enough to be able to share my with you. I can hardly wait.
Jesse
I'll put your name on one. Seems like a lot have pinkies. I know they wont stay that way, and most are noid's except Buckeye Cherry Pink, which is actually coming out burgundy.
Thank you. I've never had a pinkie before. But when I saw those tiny little pinkies I just knew I had to have one.
Thanks,
Jesse
I've got Pinkies from BE Cherry Topping, ( Potted a baby of BE Cherry Topping she lost her mom she's a couple inches tall and all pink !!)And Namely Nancy... But they don't stay all pink later :( I put more leaves down Sonoma Grandma Rose they shall five some nice pink babies too :))
too cute!
Now, I don't use the Texas Method, it's not legal for me to use because I am not a native Texan. LOL- no, it just didn't work for me so I use the "Dixie" method, LOL.
Yes My Snow Leopard is getting big! I looked again on Friday and it just seems to be getting bigger and bigger- not Snow Leopard, but a few of the plants that you sent me have been suckering, so I guess I will have to do surgery!
Allison, are you telling me that Lali's Snow Leopard sported?! That is exciting and then also could be disappointing, I mean, not that I bought this, because it was a nice gift from my dear friend Precious and her human, LOL, but if I'd bought this, thinking oh I am going to have a lovely white AV to add to my collection only to wake up one morning and find green stripes! Funny- now I am going to be on a mission to get it too bloom!
Agree about shinny leaves, some plants do and some don't. I think when I see a charecteristic, like the shinny leaf or the amazing varigation that is the hook that gets me!
Allison you also sent me leaves of Sonoma Grandma Rose and they are finally sprouting ears, as is Shawnee Trail, Irish Angel and Wonderous Girl- I think that's the latest, I checked on Friday but will look again tomorrow when I put my new leaves down.
Sonoma Grandma Rose yeah you should get some pink babies ! I planted a baby up almost all pink who lost her Mom and she died :(( It's like having an all white plant plant with too much variegation they most get some green 99 percent of the time before Mom dies.
Oh Russian Snow Leopard was never white. Yes weird name it's the english name but it's Russian. I was sent a leaf by Bluebirds when the one leaf I ordered was out of stock. The one I ordered had lots of green in it and I really wanted it. But I said no refund just send a Russian leaf any. They were not selling this plant yet ( they are now) I assumed it was going to be white. Even though I have an all white Russian Yan Selna ( Now being Spelled Ian Selena I understand both ways are correct) It's white . Did I send you one of them also ? I have extras progates super if you'd like one.
I noticed yesterday the AVSA registered Sport List many plants added to it some Russians Sports and some Russians have now been registered this is one plant that has been registered.
I sent you info on your Russian Snow Leopard !
Ok in the registration they did not put english name I wish they had. But you can see the picture of what they are supose to look like at Bluebird or Russian sight
This is info for Russian " Snow Leopard" now Registered.; and can be show at shows if blooming true.
EK-Snezhnyi Bars (9581) 01/17/2006 (E. Korshunova) Single-semidouble white large frilled star/lilac eye, violet edge. Medium green, pointed. Standard
NOW GET THIS >
EK-Snezhnyi Bars < Snow Leopard>
Is a Sport Plant of ;
EK-Lesnaia Ezhevika (9573) 01/17/2006 (E. Korshunova) Single-semidouble purple-violet large ruffled star. Medium green, plain. Standard
>>> So by all means the Snow Leopard could have sported back to EK-Lesnaia Ezhevika < which I think is Wild Man > I have to go look at Bluebirds>
Many plants on the Sport list have Sported to 1-3 or more names different plants ~ lauris plant though all came from one leaf grew up in same pot same Mom all lok different.
April yours may need trans-planting and suckers taken off. I have several suckers I am growing they will be first generation as they came from my Mom plant. I want to see if my sport is stable and how they bloom, The crowns grow very fast and will bloom in no time compared to a leaf. Though I did put a leaf or two down and babies are coming up fast from it too. They will all be 1st. generation. Then is these bloom the same I can sicker or leaf progate ( I will probaly do both again) to see how the second generation will bloom! I think the Sports are much more pretty. Matter of fact lauries is wild love it too as she has GREEN Chimera Stripes on hers !
I think your's is way large enough to bloom. So trans-planting it , suckers off, 12 or so hours a day of light, if in window put under lamp few hours at night, good feeding program and watering yours will be blooming ! I can't wait to see it.
My buds took a long time to form but were large, one bloom sltak got like 6-8 large flowers with still more buds opening. I do have all new buds forming o I can't wait for them to bloom again ! .
It is still blooming now from first blooms !
Oh I don't think my plant is much larger or the same size as yours Laurie too.
Oh Laurie I was just looking back at pictures. Double trouble I got my leaf from you ! Thanks I have babies of Double Trouble. I have lots of Strep babies growing :))
OK April here is info from Bluebrids and pictures can be seen there ~ These plants like I showed before are now registered with AVSA ! I made a mistake remeber wrong it's not Wild Man, but Wild Blackberry~
EK-Lesnaia Ezhevika (Elena Korshunova)
"Wild Blackberry" Double dark purple violet wavy star. Medium green ovate foliage. Standard
Ek-Snezhnyi Bars (Elena Korshunova)
"Snow Leopard" Semidouble-double white star with lilac eye,and frilled violet edge. Medium green pointed foliage. Standard
I like how Bluebird puts the english name I need to add these all into my FC.
Now I do have ; Ian-Selena (Natalia Puminova)
"Moon Goddess" White semidouble-double ruffled star. Light green ovate foliage. standard
Which is white and great growing to if you don't have it . I also am growing some nice babies of Silver Wings ~ have small babies now and put more leaves down ~
You may have both and anything else you'd like !
I love having white, red, and red and white flowering AV's blooming during the Holiday season !
Here you may look at the pictures.

I am such a visual person, reading about the flower or leaf just doesn't do it for me, I must see the photo. Snow Leopard is sort of white, I know it has colored eye & edges, but most of it's white- to me anyway, LOL. I have been sort of avoiding whites, but have seen so many that look so pretty and maybe I have been to discriminatory in my collecting! LOL. Well if this one is going to sport I hope it goes crazy so that we can all enjoy it.
Anyway the photos at Blue Bird are all sooooo pretty. In looking at them I am in love w/ Kofeiniy Aromat (Boris Makuni) "Coffee Aroma" - and yes I like seeing both the Russian and English names.
I have that other Russian that you sent me as well, Velvet Fantasy, I think. Does this one have a history of sporting?
Te Velvet Fantasy I bought last year from Bluebird ~~ I sold leaves and gave some away, and put down leaves. As I took them off even more grew back faster.
The plans were $9.95 then and a leaf was I think $4.95
They went down this year :((
I then sold the plant ~ Mean while I have grown about a dozen plants from my leaves I've shared all free ~
And so my plants, plants I shared and leaves I shared pay for themsleves ....Just a long time of care and growing.
Did you see the picture first plant on Bluebird Green house.
Barkhatnaia Fantaziia (Boris Makuni)
" Velvet Fantasy" Single/semidouble red-orchid large star with wavy edge and blue fantasy. Dark green foliage. Standard.
The Rusian Snow Leopard I had ordered a leaf they were out of.
Instead of credit I aksed them to just please send any other Russian leaf. This one they were not selling yet so I had no info on it nor what it would look like until I fount it on AVSA Russian web pictures. Then about a month or so ago Bluebirds started to sell the plant ~
Not I know of does it sport ? But who knows. They say one of every hundred leaves put down Sport. Fantasy's are least stable thought Fantasy's sport to Chimeras a lot !
Have you looked at the Registered Sport list latly ? The link is in our Sticky and in AVSA web sight. Some Russian plants that have Sported and been registered have been added and some other plants. Not all registered sports are in here but they are asking people to do so. And if you have a Sport to look here first as it may have already been named. Lot'sof plants have Sported to 2-3 different registered named plants. Rob's nd Ma's ve a lot of registered SPORTS> If ind the list very interesting. if one of my plants Sport I check the list to see if it is there and it's name.
I like white flowers Av's and have a few very magical ones.
That one is beautiful.
I was reading some info on the AV society site and from what I got out of it, it sounds like the yellow AVs are not so stable. Have any of your yellows sported?
RIght now I just have Golden Spirit , and Golden Threads. I like the yellow stripes Golden Spirit flowers have. Yellow is cheery but I like all the colors
Spoken like a true junkie!
LOL. Me too. I kept thinking that I didn't like the purple/violet/blues, but now find myself wanting many of those colors. I thought that white was boring, but it's not, it can be very dramatic!
Those look so nice, but I cannot give you a good answer. I know from listening to the wise sages who visit these threads that AVs like to be crowded. I'd probably transplant but there is no telling how many plants, AVs included that I have killed.
Hope this helps, LOL. Allison, Lory or Nanna to name a few will give you a real answer.
They look ok to go into 2 inch pots becareful not to over water,Looks like leaves can be used again ~
Can you use the original leaves again? I never knew that. Do you recut them or something? : )
I potted some babies yesterday- removed them from their mom. Last time I did that I was able to leave some root on both mom and baby so I repotted as is; yesterday I couldn't leave root so I did recut the stem, I am sure they will re root.
If they are in good condition you can use them Many times my Mom leaf will still have smaller babies on it , I re-pot them. I don't re-cut mom if she has -no babies or roots either except if she seems like she needs it. I also give them new soil and cups !
I had to edit this I must have fell alseep and not finished it sorry.

Laurie, I blame you for sending me over here! I even bought my first ever streptocarpis, a deep purple one. I love my little variegated AF but really can't start another collection of anything, no room! But I can't resist the unusual and different and I am a foliage nut so these variegated leaves are a big draw to me. Thats' why I am lusting after begonias lately. And that Rob's Happy Harold , oh my! Be still my heart!
Maybe I can find room...especially since I can't get outside to garden anyways since the relentelss rains is ruining spring.

Nice Strep Sue! Sorry about this, but resistance is futile. As they say in this group, they are like potato chips, you cant have just one.
I hope you'll hang out here often this is a super group.
Yes Sue, welcome and hope you hang out here. I am always late to the party.
That is a gorgeous Strep!
Welcome, Sue. Beautiful strep. There's no point trying to resist over here!
Sharon
I agree. Resistence is futile with this group. It is a great group of people to hang out with. They are like a family to me. So welcome and have fun.
