Just kidding it's beautiful !

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Oh, I forgot to tell you, I asked Libbie about the name differences and here's what she said...

HI,

When we first received the Russians two years ago they had the English
translation Yan but when they were registered with AVSA they got some
universal translation Ian- We just did not change all our tags because
both are acceptable.

Libbie

p.s. with all that, I hope you didn't miss Rob's Vanilla Pink up above. I can't wait for it to grow up.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

That's a real pretty Optimara !

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Pretty sure, shall I run back and check the pot and tag? LOL... Getting my exercise today!

Now who's been hitting the crack pipe! (kidding!0

Are you feeling better now? I sure hope so!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh no I did not miss it :))
Oh so it's ok to say Yan or Ian :))

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Well, that's what Libby says, but I can't say for sure. I have been pronouncing it like Ian (ee - an) like the boys name. I like it better than Yan (like Yawn)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh my goodness I've been in bed all day sense Sunday. And yesterday Ice on head all afternoon all night. At least I slept. And woke without paid. My Script never came so someone from Hospice picked it up and brought to Wal-greens and then Robert went to get it this afternoon :)) It time released so take awhile to get into my body. Took one last this afternoon and forgot and took another tonight. lol

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Ah HA! I better run for real now, gotta go cook up some chow for the hungry family!

hugs to all. ( I think this forum will 'win' again with the most posts today)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Lorry
Is that photo tomboy blues? If yes I would love a baby or leaf- the color is very much like some of the Russians I have been looking @ on the AV site, with no hope of ever finding. If you need some incentive, I will be happy to trade any of what I have or my DH- hmm that probably ruined the deal! LOL.
Thanks.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I have a small Tomboy Blue. It's small but filling up with Buds ! The variegations on this plant is super ! It's so small I don't think I even put leaves down /

Oh well, that's alright. I went back to bloomlovers and it turns out that the Petite Jewel I HAD to have isn't one she has available. It's just in her picture slideshow. I'll keep a watch and see if she offers it any time soon. Maybe this is all a sign I shouldn't buy anything right now! LOL

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh don't feel like that .

I fell in love with all the pictures. Aren't violets beautiful?!

Oh Allison, I didn't mean I was sour about it. You know I'll break down and buy something sooner or later! LOL I'm trying to be good right now and save money for vacation. :o) Besides, I have a birthday coming up fairly soon, and I'm pretty sure my husband knows plants are a safe bet for a GREAT present! ;o)

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Well that is a smart husband! Perhaps your DH would be willing to give mine a few tips!
Where are you going on vacation? Some place wonderful I hope.

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh my, this one is just gorgeous: http://davesviolets.com/honeyblueangel.JPG

It's true, I have no self control, last night ordered leaves- now that I have had some success I feel very brave- from Velvet Leaf.
Today I potted my babies, some of them anyway, others not big enough to separate from mama; checked on others and have little ears on many. Also put down a few leaves on others. Can't say why the babies Allison sent me are not blooming, the plants are very healthy. Repotted some, thinking they were bored, perhaps that will help, who knows. Again, although I am happy when they flower, as long as they are healthy I am happy.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Well I know they were in new pots and in soil-less mixture that is light that African violet need.
I was wondering also as I send out the bigger ones and keep smaller babies for me.
Now mine have lights 12-16 hours a day . A few dozen in windows they bloom all the times too. I have babies too small still with Mom that bloom. lol
I also feed mine 1/4 strength almost each watering. I do have good tempetures and humidity.
I know the plants I gave Kneton out in cold CO. some of them have doubled and tripled in sized and blooming nuts, but sometimes a plant may be too young to bloom.
But I know some of the plants I sent your were good size and should be blooming.
Number one important light.
12-16 hours a day.
Make sure pots are not too big and soil is light
proper watering and feeding program.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Well I sent the Ellie Gardner Mom just took some leaves and she bloomed for me all the time.
And Picasso was getting pretty big.
April it would be a good idea to put leaves down from all your plants just in case they don't get use to your enviromant.
I'm surprised your Rhapsodie Clementine hasn't bloomed or your Golden Spirit.
Just give them as much light as you can. Good watering and feeding. Add humidity if needed. Make sure in light soil-less mixture proper size pots. I find mine bloom more when pots starting to fill up !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

April up in first sticky first section whole bunch of good links why are not my plants blooming ? Do you have many plants in bloom now ?
Q: Why aren't my AV's blooming?

A: Light, fertilizer, and repotting can all encourage blooming. Refer to these threads:
"Bloom, Darn ya!" [HYPERLINK@davesgarden.com]
"Allison's favorite fertilizer: [HYPERLINK@davesgarden.com]
From the AVSA site: [HYPERLINK@www.avsa.org]
Why Wont My African Violet Bloom [HYPERLINK@www.plantsonpurpose.com

Well, April, I'm very lucky. My husband is very intuitive, picking up on the slightest hints...like the fact that I talk about AVs at least several times per day, show him my leaf babies everyday no matter how much of a hurry he's in, make him look at picture after picture and tell me which one he likes the best when he swears they all look the same to him, and ask him how many shelves (with lights, of course) does he think would fit on that wall, or in this room. Not every man is capable of putting all those little things together and coming up with the perfect present! LOL (And best of all, he never complains about any of that!)
Really, he is very good about knowing just what I'd really love - most times he gets me something I like much better than what I asked for. Did you see the potting bench he built me for Christmas? I had asked for a little table made out of scrap wood so I wouldn't have to kneel down to repot plants. Here's what I got: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/566727/
I potted up quite a few suckers today, and put down some leaves. I've got to repot most of my minis and about half of my others, but I'm done for today. Mine rarely bloom, but I've decided it must be the low humidity level in the house. The ones I put on pebble trays last week have buds on them, and they haven't dried up yet, so I'm hoping they'll actually bloom now. Crossing my fingers that I've figured out the solution to the problem.
We're going to Florida and to Gatlinburg in a couple of months. I was hoping to go far enough south into Florida to be able to visit Allison and Lorry, but we aren't going to be able to. My husband's work changed his vacation time, so we're still a bit "up in the air" about our final plans.

Abilene, TX

Raingazer, your hubby is the best. : )

Allison, I have babies. Yea! About five so far from the leaves you sent. I will keep working at it as long as the leaves are healthy. Here's a pic.

Woo hoo on the babies!!

I agree, Pam, he's the best! :o) Those are some lovely babies you've got there! Isn't it fun to see them poking through?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yippee Pam ! Ans WOW you have Silver Wings one of my favorite Vintage plants babies WOW . They look great. Just keep the leaves/babies warm, give them as much light as you can. I use tiny bits of warm/hot water and I feed mine also.
All the little babies are forming underneath and once they come up watch out there''s no stopping them.
It is best to cut stem short . One inch or less. Then I push mine into the soil until the leaf touches. I foount the shorter the stem the faster I get babies. ! Some leaves take longer there is always an average but then again there are ones that can take 6-9 months to see babies. Sometime I re-pot them. But keep as long as they are healthy !
Keep up the good work !

" Lali really took the best picture ! It was blooming for about a month before she came and still blooming today " I love it :))
The flowers are breath taking and large.

Allison you know that you cannot compare one baby to another, they are all different! But if it make you feel better, even after repotting all on Saturday, I didn't notice until yesterday that Rob's Humpty Doo has blossoms- not open, but they are there!
Also I may not have the most blooms, but I do have babies that are happy and coming along.
I ordered leaves, which arrived and have been "planted" from "The Velvet Leaf"- very nice lady from California, sent me the most beautiful leaves- Allison, they were almost as good looking as the ones you sent me! Anyway I got Shy Blue (4), Saphire Ice, (2) Rose Splash (4), Ep. Chocolate Cream & Alamo Sweetheart (1) (her gift to me)- nothing suckers me in more than a free gift! Of course, if all survive me, I will happily share- for some reason the week I ordered I found myself in love w/ the blue/violet AVs and completely ignored the reds- go figure. Photos to follow.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

April, it's good to know you are happy with her as a vendor. I listed her in the sticky, but wasn't sure of her as a vendor. Good to know!

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, she was nice to deal w/ and leaves were gorgeous!
Here are some of the photos I promised- I feel like the lady in one of our commercials here who says, "I will send pictures of my vacation to my family and there is nothing they can do about it!" LOL.
