Hi everyone- cold and dark here. guess we can just copy and paste the weather for awhile.

Mary-what kind of trailer do you have? Is it a living quarters one or do you just use the gooseneck? Never thought about that aspect of endurance riding. I'll tell you though you've gotten me intrigued. I had a great jumping lesson yesterday, sailing smoothly over a 6 jump bounce, I was on top of the world and felt for the first time, maybe I CAN do things. I keep thinking I'm too old...well, maybe I'll try to condition for long rides this summer and see how it goes.

9kitty-So sorry about the snow. We have some forecast for later this week, but nothing extreme for this part of the country. It's way crazy after an 80 degree winter. Get a good book and don't look out the windows till t's gone!!

Hi Casey!! Do check in, we miss you too!

darius-I hope you check in soon too.....

defoecat-looking for ward t seeing some pics! I don't think I'd have patience for dial up. Tabbies have the coolest markings, I love to just sit and look at all the stripes and patterns....i can't imagine designing such a thing...so many things make me think of a wonderful God.

Elaine-oh no not mosquitoes already! It really is always something isn't it? And with the crazy weather I think we've got lots of unexpected somethings coming up....

sarv-yup, lucky the cord started sparking when you were home! When we lived in NJ a neighbor came over and said something under my deck was sparking-the connection for the pool filter was going berserk. Don't remember how we unplugged it though. How do you pull a flaming plug?

Chat's open this morning, maybe i'll check it out,
Bye for now

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

The snow is supposed to get here Thursday evening. If it is very much, I may be in trouble to get to some important stuff Friday. I have been trying to get a collection of photographs from the early 20th century for archives. That endeavor has been spread over 3 or 4 years. Friday, one of the children of the photographer is giving a program in the same building where we have archives, so I will be showing her how collections are handled.
The collection records all the years that the tanneries operated here in the mountains and the necessary logging efforts too. They built narrow-gauge railroads, loaded the loggers shacks on flatbed train cars, and hauled them to the logging camps. When they had logged out a given area, they just picked up the shacks and moved them to the next camp. The shacks were tiny and cold.
The mother cooked for the loggers and so did the older children. They had a separate mess hall that was also hauled from one camp to another by the trains.
The woman I am getting most of the pictures from is 90 and she cooked in the camps as a teen-ager. The youngest daughter has written two fictionalized books on the life of the loggers, especially her parents. Very interesting to learn about that way of life.
Good morning darius, how are you doing?

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

woodspirit-neat story about the logging. I'm fascinated by logging in the Adirondacks. Whole different life that was - talk about work ethic!! Could you imagine anyone today being willing to work like that?

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Good Morning- sun is out for a minute, but clouds are moving in so it will continue to be cloudy and. cold. BUT they are saying 50's for the end of NEXT week!! Then again you know how unreliable they are...

LOL at the Easter eggs - substitute my car keys or an important paper and I do the same. When we used to hide eggs for the kids, I would always find some several months later. I just love finding $$ in pockets of things I haven't worn in months!! I once found 200 bucks hiding underneath my tv in the bedroom - yahoo - oh if only I could do that again!!

Mary - I need to wash our sleeping bags too, but think it will wait until warmer weather and I can hang them outside. Which reminds me, all my rugs need a good laundry too. See what all your cleaning has caused!!

Just got a call that a friends dad is dying and they are schedule to fly to Cancun next week. Now that is a problem!! They we called to his bedside last night, so maybe things will happen fast and they can still go. He was in hospice - cancer thru out his body, so it wasn't unexpected. But he's MY age.....worry worry worry....

I'm off to the huff/puff, then onto the store to get a plug replacement for the one that sparked. DH just grabbed and gave it a pull (where were his brains???) Oh and I need to pick up some more batteries to see if that is the problem with the garage door.

PS - just had spinach pizza for breakfast -out of this world....gonna pick up a couple of more at the store!!

Morning
Woodspirit
That is just so totoally awesome. It really fascinates me. You are lucky to have that job. That would be *right* up my alley indeed. :) Tell us more when you can.

Did anyone talk to Darius last night?

Kelly, how did Bill make out?

Susan, did you wake up to snow? Hope the weather man was wrong. I'm wishing spring for all y'all!

Well, this is a quick post this morning. Have an errand and will be back. Will check in later.

Sarv - spinach pizza! LOL

Good morning all,

Think I'll make this brief - my hands don't know how to type yet -
Hope you have a good day.

Well, I am up, eyes not quite open, but the coffee and I are working on that aspect. Have a couple of errands this morning, and will be getting ready to go to my birthday bash.D(twin)S and spouses are going to a hotel/casino about 100 miles away to spend the night, and have their fabulous breakfast buffet in the morning. So will be heading out about 12:30.

In the mean time, I am going to attempt to post the pics that I have, and tried to do last night. I will be back.

Good Morning, everyone. I AM alive!! By the time my sister got here yesterday my breathing had improved so never went to the ER. Breathing bad again this AM but improving. I'm beginning to think it's just pollen season and I DO have some "emergency" inhalers in my suitcase. Guess I better start using them.

Thanks for all the concern!

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning. It's just getting light here. I stuck my nose outside a while ago, some wind, not too cold, nothing falling out of the sky. Ok, I'll take it (what other choice do I have?)

AmandaPanda is snuggling in my lap, purring, with both front feet holding my left arm, maybe trying to keep me from typing.

Woodspirit, I hope the weather doesn't interfere with getting the information and pictures about the logging. It sounds a lot like what was done here in the northwest many years ago. Narrow guage railroads ran all over the mountains, one of them brought logs to a mill just a few miles from where we live. The mill there operated until the 1960's, but is no more. Some of the buildings from the mill town are still there, one of them is a combination residence/store. The remains of the railroad can still be seen nearby, mostly just railroad ties, the steel rails were used for other things or recycled.

Speaking of recycling, we were watching something on the History Channel a few nights ago about what happens to old airplanes, military ones in particular, but I suppose it is also true for airplanes in general. Did you realize that your pop can might have once flown in combat? Or maybe it is now the foil you used to cover some food, or you might have wrapped your Christmas presents in it? Strange to think about that.

Somebody asked about my trailer. It is a gooseneck with a small section of living quarters in the front. My bed is above the gooseneck and I have a floorspace that started out to be 4x7 feet I think. Then we put a cabinet in the far side of it that has the furnace under it, and added a box on the side that is about a foot wide. It serves as storage (has a hinged lid), and is also a seat and a step to get up to the bed. The whole space is very small. Behind that section is the tack compartment with a hinged wall between the tack and the horse space. Both these sections have doors on the right hand side of the trailer. At the rear is the big door where I take the horses in and out. When the horses are not in the trailer, I can open the wall/door between the horse space and the tack room and access everything in the tack space which otherwise is really jammed in there. It is a custom built trailer, built by a company that went out of business a couple of years after we got it. Before that we had an old camper on the pickup and I pulled a 3 horse stock trailer. This is much better, I just unhitch the truck and can use it for something else, like going to town yesterday. Also it is a much smoother ride for the horse.

Defoe, you are talented! Is that blue and red quilt in the center called Drunkards Path? Have fun on your trip.

Sarv, I'm glad your episode with the sparking cord didn't cause a fire, and that your husband wasn't knocked across the room from a shock. I guess he just acted without thinking, but that is how people get hurt. Old cords are scarry, we don't think about them and then can get a rude surprise.

Dmc, good you on the jumping lesson. I hope you can join up with other riders at your new place. You keep thinking you are too old for long rides, oh come on, I bet you are younger than I am. I started endurance riding when I was 49 and have been at it ever since. Before that I did trail riding. A lot of people who ride endurance are in their 60's and 70's, some older than that and still going strong.

Got to go, much to do today. ~~~ to all I missed. Back later, probably much later.

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

Hey darius i'm using Advair every day to prevent attacks. This year has been brutal and the dr. said there seems to be an increase in breathing problems - probably weird weather breeding mold, etc, and then the wind. It seems to help, I don't know how you can tell for sure since the triggers vary so much.

Gald to hear that you improved on your own though. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!! Keep the rescue inhaler handy!!!

I'm back.

Susan, are you still needing rain? It's 58 here and raining. It feels cold and I want my sun and warm weather back! I'll send you this rain if you still want some????

Defoe, love those quilts and that bird bath is way cute. Have told the DH all about it, so now I have *another* project on our "to do" list. :) I hope you have a *wonderful* time on your birthday trip. I know it's early ... but have a happy one! LOL

Darius, good to hear from you. Glad it's only allergies. Everyone seems to be suffering these days. :)

Well, got rushed this morning with my cuppa, so I put on a fresh pot and am relaxing for a change. Am going to see what's been going on in my abscence. Will catch y'all later. Waving to everyone! ~~~

Crossposted, Mary, I'm going on 48. So you see, maybe I can do it!! I just thought you'd need to have started back wehn you were young and flexible. Some things like skiing I just can't really improve at. I'm pretty stiff a lot of the time. Seems like long rides could be tough on old skeletons too!! But I started riding lessons three years ago and I 've come farther than I ever would have dreamed imy wildest dreams...so maybe I'll just keep going that direction!!!

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Dmc, yes you can!

Here are some new AmandaPanda pictures. I bought this basket for about 50cents at a thrift store, added a towel and the cat added herself.

We call this Mousievision, or MTV. she jumps up to look at the mice every time she hears them making rustling noises, and has not given up trying to catch them. The mice have no fear, they have always been safe, so they come right up to the glass and look at the cat, it drives her nuts!

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Ok, I've gotta get to work, for real this time.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

tee hee I love that the mice look back at her. Safe behind their glass.

48 is not so old as to keep you from going forward dmc, we can do a lot more with our bodies than we usually try. maybe a few added aches, but not all that much. it's when we quit and do nothing that we really get all stove up.

We are going to have a pretty day. Sunshine and promise of temps around 60 - it's an outdoors day. Hurrah. I shall accomplish things. I will I will I will. But the temptation to go for a drive and see what the wilds are up to is a biggie on a day like this. NO housecleaning today, the dishes can wait. ~Blooms

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Looks like AP and Max would have gotten along just fine! (Still working but checking in so it won't take me an hour to catch up later!) Just had a nice chat with Dcat, (Happy Birthday!) and forgot to tell her now beautiful the quilts are. She's responsible for the house cleaning attack...me along with everybody else she infected uhhh I mean inspired... with this dreadful disease.

Hehehehe That is tooo funny. All this time I thought y'all were calling the TV mouse a vision. Didn't realize you had *real* mice!

Anyway with the age thing ...
I'm only 10 years old. After all ... if life begins at 40, doesn't that mean I'm 10???

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Elaine - I like your way of thinking. That would make me 5! LoL. Can I go out and play now? Pleeeease?

DMC - I would love to take riding lessons someday. It's on my "want to do list". I don't think I want the expense of having my own horse, even though I think they are such majestic animals.

Defoe - Beautiful quilts and I love the birdbath. We have lots of talented people here.

Mary - Amanda Panda has really grown.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Ewwww - mice....we set traps for them here...anything brown and furry gives me the creeps!! Sorry Mary....Now if you had fish in that tank, I'd spend hours watching them... We still have a truck camper -used it many times, but it is too confining for me. We took it once from Mich down to Fla -kids rode in it and loved it. We found out the sewer leaked when we got down there (one kid had to sleep on the floor - PU) -then it got a leak in the roof etc. We don't use it much anymore- have a very nice 5th wheeler instead.

Beautiful quilts - wish I could do them - but my fingers won't cooperate. Have made several of the 9 patch ones you do on the machine tho.

Defoe - have a great time on your trip!! I love going to the casinos - never have won more than 20 bucks tho... Food is always plentiful tho!

dm - you are a young kid yet!!! go for it!

Darius - welcome back - glad you didn't have to make a trip to EM room, but keep those inhallers handy. Today I can breathe better - something is definately in the wind...

Wood, love hearing old stories like that. My DH works at a place that used to be a saw mill. They have these big straps all over the place - they ran the saws - fascinating place. The soil around the place is like gold - dark and rich.

Well, time for lunch. I stopped at the store on the way home and won't embarrass myself telling you what I bought and just ate...

Hi Cindilynn!
There's usually syber goodies on the counter, but you won't find any there by my hand ... just fresh coffee. The rest will tell you I'm not much for baking, although I do love to cook.

Just made a pot of Tortilla soup. Have put that out, so help yourselves. They say it will be back down in the 30's by the week-end. So glad I haven't planted out my maters yet. Still dragging the pots around. Poor guys. Will they *ever* see a perminent spot to sun themselves so they can set fruit?

Darius, you feeling any better?

So where's Maria and the rest of the gang?

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

I love the birdbath, how is that done? Do you think I could do one? Teach me, please.....

I love AmandaPanda, Furrbee's in love too. LOL although she could be his sister actually.

We did have snow and it looked like winter time, but it is already just about gone. The sun is out!!

However, they are predicting a low of 25 tonight and 28 tomorrow night. I hope it doesn't kill my hosta or anything else. :(

The electric coop tree trimmers are here today. Chopping and sawing and whacking like crazy, I hate when they come, but it has to be done I guess. Actually they do a decent job, unlike the vertical bushhog that they ran along the road and up into the trees about 5 years ago. That was a disaster, I called the county commissioner on that one. Like he could put anything back, but I raised heck, let me tell you.

Usually when the coop does it, they try to do a professional job, I don't want the county to do anything.

We had to put WileE in his crate, cause he looks so viscious (he's not) the hair goes up on his back and he jumps and lunges and goes nuts. Piper and Pepper have to get in on the barking, but now that he is in his crate they are just laying on the patio with him, keeping him company. I guess he is their leader. LOL

Well, I have to go get lunch, I have a shelter operations meeting at 1pm and PT at 3:15 and I haven't accomplished much of anything. Well two loads of laundry, but I do that everyday anyway. Don't we all??? LOL

Oh...........one picture of the 'snow' ,I took a bunch, but I will try to show the best one.

Susan
