Searches Hijacked

Cincinnati, OH

Hijacked usually means someone takes over your computer. I am tired of searches for plants taken over by someone selling cut flowers of species you have no interest in. Also your search term is plugged into something totally unrelated.

They got me again!

Where are you searching? When I hit in Maddenia in the top right search box, it goes to here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/search.php?q=Maddenia&submit=%28%3A+Search+forums+%3A%29

edited my 'search box' position. LOL

Do you have your 'Advertisements: If there are any advertisements on any page of this website, do you want to see them?' checkbox clicked on in 'My Preferences'?

Is this something you're encountering when you search on our site, or general searches on the internet?

We only have Google text ads displayed - they should not be "hijacking" your searches on our forums (or Google searches, for that matter) in any way.

Are you getting pop-ups? I used to get lots of those until I got a new pop up blocker program. You also won't get them if you use Firefox as a browser.

I have pop-ups blocked. Google ads are on the right. I do not mind. They plug in words that have no relation to there business. When you are looking for the less common plants, you get a lot of info on medicinal or scientific uses.
Then there are florists which put every plant genus in the world on their site. Others are putting dictionaries. Click on that to find out, there is no useful info about any kind of plant.

You can turn off the Google ads if you want - there's a link on your Member Page to do just that. (Let us know if we can help!)

The Google ads are okay. I do not like when florists list every genus on their site, but don't have any information. Others just plug in the word you searched, but are trying to sell something unrelated, such as travel, or another search engine.

Larry your computer will search for any links that have the words in you put in the search bar. If you put a comma e.g. 'musa sikkimensis' either side of the words if more than one that will sort out the most appropriate links first. try to use as few words as possible. Also if you click on the 'image' link at the top you can see if any images of what your are looking for are there, thus eliminating a lot of searching on the web links.
