Coffee and...For Tuesday, March 14, 2006 =^..^=
Good Morning - I'm the first! But I'm going to have to come back to say much more.
See you later.
Ann
Hey I'm on second =o)) BBL....Lauri
I overslept and woke up with a foggy brain....read the rest of yesterdays...be back after some grub....I'm #3
#5, Good Morning, hope every one is OK and the bad weather has left for a nice, sunny day which is not the case here
Hi all
Today's riding lesson day...yay...I think. Still kind of stiff here for some reason, maybe the trail riding.
It's sort of sunny, the wind is coming later, and tomorrow, snow.
Thanks all of you who are keeping the tornadoes! Like McCool, I begin to realize all the things I like about the Northeast, once we thaw out. I would not like tornadoes and hurricanes at all, wind makes me very nervous.
I read through all of yesterday,seems like a fair amount of good news, and no weather damage....big sigh of relief.
Molly the pumphouse is just beautiful
I have to run, will be back later!!
#7 ain't bad!!
Me too, will have to come back later and comment. The weather is sunny, cooler, high about 55 today. I have a run to town to make, then back to house cleaning.
Got the errand in town taken care of, need to put a trade in the mail and then will be taking down wallpaper and border, getting ready to paint and put up new border. I will take breaks periodically throughout the day and check in then. Weather is 40 and clear, sunny, and the wind makes it feel about 30. Hope it warms up during the day.
Whatever you are doing today, be careful, and enjoy.
I'm #8? (Or probably 9, 10, or 11 by the time I get this posted.) Been busy, paying bills, balancing accts, and shopping on Ebay for a replacement miniprep and a mandoline. I can't do without them for long. And I'm eating breakfast over the keyboard which I always swear I'm not going to do.
Molly and V.ann, Sears has always had a terrible reputation for auto repairs. Way back I had taken my car in to have a front end alignment, and the wheels balancing. They wrote up the estimate, and I left the car there. They can't proceed until you tell them it's ok. They called me at work later in the morning and said I needed to replace the springs (Big expensive job) or they couldn't do the alignment. DH said no way was that necessary so I called them back and said don't touch anything, I'll pick up the car tonight after work.
When I went to get it, they had 1) replaced the springs, 2) done the alignment and balancing, 3) Cut through my brand new shock absorbers and then replaced them. Without authorization. I refused to pay for it. After standing and arguing with the service manager, I paid for the alignment and balance, not the parts or the labor for all the other work they did. What a bunch of idiots. I guess they expect you to roll over and play dead and just pay them. I think they are especially devious when dealing with women, thinking we know nothing.
But, their appliances, up until the last few years have been reliable. They will only be able to run on their reputation for a just so long, and then it will catch up with them. And to think they just bought Kmart!
Sarv, it's too early for ice cream...I'll ljust finish my eggs. Is the trip to Chicago 8 hours both ways? I'd have to pack two books! Plus food. Good job delegating the planning!! And a good thing I didn't book that trip to a sunny beach, all my fun money will be *washing dishes* for me later.
Carat, Sammi loves small rugs, or anything he can grab and drag around. The little shower stool cover is just the right size for him to wrestle. Souky sits up there and she bats at him from it, so he's taking it off after she runs away. He was making up for it this morning by smooching me up before I got out of bed. So far, he's left the TP alone, but I hang it with the flap in the back, so even if he grabs the front it won't unroll. No guarantees but so far so good. I may regret saying this....I see a paper blizzard in the near future, for tempting fate.
McCool, that's generally how we feel in the midwest, no hurricanes, no earthquakes, no mud slides...just the occasional tornado in spring. The weather 'experts' say there aren't really more tornados, the population has just spread out farther and father from the cities, and now they don't just touch down in a forest or a plain, they hit small towns and populated areas. But, I also think the weather patterns are changing drastically, with the polar ice caps melting, and we are probably going to see more of the big storms and damage as a result of that. Just MHO.
Susan, tell your daughter how many of us are rooting for her and sending prayers and good thoughts in her direction. It's pretty scary to have surgery for the first time, but they do such a good job with anethesia and pain management now it won't be long and she'll be fine. Still, she'll be glad when it's over. And you have a new little guest!! How did that little black critter figure out yours was the house to stop at? Is there one of those tramp signs on your front gate? You know, where the old time depression era tramps used to make a mark to indicate that a kind housewife lived there and they could get a handout?
Dcat, you are putting us to shame with your cleaning and fixing up!! You are an inspiration! I feel inspired myself, but I am sure if I wait a little while it will go away. Oh, wait, it's gone already!! Phew, that was a narrow escape.
Several stores here carry the Bosch brand appliances so I won't have any trouble finding one, it will just be finding one at a price I can bear.
That business about the cheap mulch coming up from the hurricane Katrina debris turns out to be just a rumor. It was initiated by one of the southern universities that had warned about the possibility of termites in the mulch, which resulted in all of the bad wood being placed down there in land fills, not chipped up for sale as mulch. Someone just took part of their report and ran with it, and then it spread via the internet etc. until it became a news item.
I better hit the shower, it's already 10:00 am, but at least I got a few things done. I'm hoping for a nice warm day soon so I can shampoo the carpeting, with doors and windows open.
~~~ at Elaine, MaryE, Darius, Okus, Kooger, BB, Blooms, WS, Happy, Maria, the guys, and anybody I overlooked. Have a sunny day!
GM everyone,
I'm vertical, but I can't say I'm doing all that well with being awake quite yet. I am however being proactive in becoming more awake, I'm drinking my first cuppa the mornin'. LOL
Last night was a good night at work, busy enough to keep us from being bored, but not the ridiculous hustle bustle pace of last weekend. What a relief!
I have an appointment at the salon this afternoon and I'm going to take advantage of having my hair washed and coiffed. I LOVE having my hair washed because the lady who does my hair knows how to do the best scalp massage I've ever had! She gets in there with her finger tips and just kneads and mushes and makes me so relaxed I could go to sleep. Usually when she's done my hair I have to come home and take a nap because I get so relaxed.
My daily doggie calendar today says, "Dogs feel very strongly that they should always go with you in your car, in case the need should arise for them to bark violently at nothing right in your ear." ---Dave Berry LOL
Have a good day all, I'm off to the shower and getting my day under way. ~Babs~
Well, got up this mornign in time to actually visit with the DH before he went to work. Got busy washing sheets and towels from bro's visit and getting ready for our Montana folks on Friday. Have the yucky stuff I've not done like ceiling fans, baseboards, window ceils, blinds, etc so I'm just dropping by for a sec. I do *hate* house work. Actually, I came to borrow the 2X4. I want to applaud those Mom's who taught their boys to pick up after themselves while growing up. Mine causes me *many* headaches in that department. Although I've finally managed after 31 years to teach him to contain it to his room, it still annoys me to no end. I simply *can not* understand why throwing things around and having to come back to clean it up later is worth it. But then ... when you have a DW that cleans out your drawers ... guess that helps a bit. (and I think in this case DW stands for dumb wife) Okay, maybe I need wacking with the 2X4! LOL
Okay, sorry for venting so much today, but I've got *better* things to do!
Susan~ will be thinking about your DD and sending prayers for her surgery and a quick recovery. I'm so sorry you won't be able to be there with her, but I know she understands. Don't overdo it in your garden in the meantime. You do have that trip planned, you know!
Meezers~ I still think that stinks about the dishwasher. It will sure make me think twice before I spend $$ at Sears again on an apliance. Yeah, Sears bought KMart alright ... and the service proves it. LOL I *hate* going into a store where I can't get any assistance. The shoe department is *exactly* like going to KMart and WalMart now. :-(
Defoe~ I'll make you some *good* snacks if you want to postpone your wall paper project and clean for me! LOL I'd sure rather be in the kitchen than dancing with the vac!
Hi Maria. Samson still having problems scratching his ears? Kota walked around shaking her head a lot. She drooled too. Had to keep wiping her bonnet as it stayed wet! I gave her ice cubes. She enjoyed crunching on them. Think they cooled her off. Silly dog!
DMC~ have fun on your ride ... but do be careful!
Well, got out this morning and was ready to pot up a couple of herbs. Had them on my potting table ... soil and pot ready to go and the bottom fell out! Got *soaked* LOL The squirrels have dug up my hostas so many times I'm not even sure they're going to make it. My tomatoes are out under the carport hardening off, so they haven't discovered them yet. If they do ... y'all will either hear a gun shot or screams from way down south! :)
If I'm going to do all that house work ... guess I'd better get my rear out of this chair. I'm waving to all those I've not spoken to. ~~~
... Elaine
Hi for real this time. Now afternoon. Went out this morning to aquafit at a neighbouring pool a bit farther from where I live and also a bit farther from downtown. Class there is 15 minutes later than my usual. (Classes cancelled at my regular pool this week due to March break). Then I went directly from the pool downtown to get my hairs lopped off. Feel better now. I was 3 days short of my regular 6 week interval but I've been shaggy for 3 weeks.
Lauri - what is BBL? That's a new one to me.
Maria - the weather here is so, so. Called for 30% chance of wet flurries by late morning. Didn't see them. But they also called for 70 km/h winds. maybe this is an offshoot of the same weather systems that recently hit the midwest. OTOH, it periodically tries to be a bit sunny; so I guess it could be worse.
Defoe, if I noticed that a room needed painting while I was cleaning, it sure wouldn't get done next day. I'd think about it for a LONG time. That way you might be able to put it off for a year or two. Like my computer room - was painted a few years back; so it's not too bad, but the color was a mistake. I've had a replacement can of paint in the basement for two year. Someday I'll do it. there's too much stuff to move. And all the trim in my kitchen needs to be painted. It was done in an eggshell white oil-base when the kitchen was new, but some of the pine sap has bled through and much of it looks like it has primer only. Lots more retirement projects. How did I have time to work?
Babs - glad you enjoy having your hair washed. I HATE it. Oh yes, some of them do goo scalp massage and that's nice but my neck hates being streteched out over their shampoo basin. That's why I always try to go right after aquafit whan I just shampood it myself. (Last time I let them wash it and it also stank of the perfumed shampoo. I almost ran right to the shower to wash it again.)
Susan - I'm also thinking about your DD and her surgery. Hope it goes well. As for you, do you want to be able to function well in your garden this summer? THEN DON'T OVERDO IT NOW! Listen to your PT person.
I seem to be caught up - at least to those message that were posted before I closed the Internet connection. The stuff for our high speed didn't come in the mail today; so maybe tomorrow. Meanwhile, I'm trying to conserve time and also keep the phone line free.
Have to do a project for the Food Cupboard. I joined the Board when I retired and promised to have the work done for a proposed change of bylaw in regard to how board members are elected. Presently they are all up for election every year. I'm concerned that sooner or later, there could be an orchestrated take-over of the Board and want to put together a proposal for about half of it being elected each year and two year terms. Have to get that done today. Tomorrow, I'm in there volunteering and I can't go to the meeting tomorrow. Have tickets for a concert that I ordered a year ago. And if I weren't going to the concert, I should be in an orchestra rehearsal.
Haven't posted the recipes yet. Will do that soon.
Just a quick jump into the pond here....Elaine, I trained my very lazy first husband to pick up his clothes....by not ever picking them up myself. The first time it happened, I did laundry at a utillity building in the trailer court we lived in, so I took all the laundry and did it there. He wanted to know why his clothes were on the floor, I said that's where he put them. He said, but they were dirty. I said, then they belong in the basket. I didn't do them. I didn't pick them up. It only took three wash days before he got it into his head that I wasn't ever going to. My current DH does his own laundry and nothing is ever left on the floor. The only thing he leaves around is shoes. If he leaves them out too long I put them some place weird. You can guess what I say when he asks about them.
Babs, ask them to put two towels on that part of the sink where your neck sits during a head wash. I read a report that some elderly women have suffered strokes from the pressure on their neck during a shampoo! Not that we are elderly, but it explains the discomfort, and what's an extra towel for them, they do them by the barrel full.
And, yeah, housework sucks. Clean up stuff so it can just get dirty again. I'm beginning to hate cooking for the same reason. LOL
Afternoon everyone!! Been putzing around all day and not accompolishing much of anything worthwhile. I lugged out purses to take on the train tomorrow. Need one that zips (so nothing can be lifted easily), one that fits my shoulder nicely, has plenty of pockets......I don't have one!! Got one that I am taking...hope it doesn't kill my shoulder as I am taking a book, phone, camera, munchies, water... etc.... It is four hours there and 4 hrs back....Can't wait.
Sheesh M5- you've trained your 2nd DH well!! He does his own laundry!! Mine is a whiz with machines, but can never seem to figure out the washer/dryer... I play dumb about cleaning the pool, so we're even!
I LOVE having my hair washed- if I was wealthy, I'd have it done dailly - ahhh the massaage...I went and had mine washed/cut today. Not her best job. I ended up looking like a shaggy dog...I'll fix it myself and it will look better. I got some new 'product' to use in my hair...we'll see if it works!
Scalloped potatoes/ham in the oven. Love easy meals...
Who's doing all that cleaning?? For heavens sakes quit it!! You're making the rest of us look like lazy butts. I've decided I'm not doing anymore heavy cleaning...just a quick touch up is going to have to be enough. It just gets dirty again - I've decided, why bother....
Already had my caramel sundae for lunch...dh wants to make strawberry shakes for tonights treat....oh I am being sooo bad. It's the weather- snowy and blowy and cold, Makes me just want to stay inside and eat.
Time to go - don't forget chat tonight!!
Excellent ideas Meezers ... got any for all the papers, junk mail, computer crap from work, etc? I don't mean to sound grumpy ... but ug ... I can't clean that stuff up. You could get buried alive in there. :-( Now mind you ... I'm *not* a neat freak ... but I *do* like things fairly picked up. I mean ... I hear people say ... "Why you could eat off her floors!" Well, I wouldn't recommend it at my house. That is ... unless you like dog hair.
The laundry monster is dead, though I'm happy to report. And I have eye round steaks marinating in the fridge.
Ann, your recipe looks to die for. This sort of thing is right up my alley. Even the DH will eat this sort of thing. Thanks for sharing. :)
Ann, sounds to me like you're just as busy as you were when you were working. LOL You make me tired!
Babs, so glad you had a bit of a break at work at least. Enjoyed the quote of the day. :)
Well, think I'll go catch up on some of my forums while I have the chance. Will check back later.
... Elaine
Well, I didn't check in during the day, as this day has been from outer space. I'm not commenting on anything now, but will be back later to do so.
I started taking off the wall paper, went to the hardware store this morning, and forgot to get Diff to remove it. Had heard fabric softner was good, so mixed it up in a bucket. I had taken off about 3 feet of border, and I climbed on the ladder with my bucket of fabric softener water, and lost my balance and fell off the ladder, spilled the bucket. Nothing hurt but a brused shin. Had to stop and clean the water mess. As I was doing that the phone rang, and it was DS at my DM's saying there was a gas leak. Told him to get her out, rushed there, called the gas company, to have someone come. Brought DM to my house while repairs were being made and the house aired out. Then it was one interruption after another. So I am on a break to fix something to eat, and will resume taking off the rest of the paper after supper.
Some days it just doesn't pay to try to get anything done. Oh, I did get one thing done. I placed an order with McCool, for candles for DGD birthday. So that was something right!!
I will be back later and comment on some things that have been said. And whoever said stop cleaning, I want to be guilt free this spring when I am outside playing in the dirt, cause all my housecleaning will be done.
All that pile of paper (bills, unwanted offers, etc) can easily be recycled to make paper. Not paper you can write upon, but paper for decoration, package wrapping, note cards, etc. Actually, making paper is easy.
Elaine: [quote] people say ... "Why you could eat off her floors!" [quote]
my answer always: "you could probably find a small meal on mine."
Hi Ladies, you are all so early rising and busy doing, I really can't keep up. I spend hours cruising Dave's, watching natural disasters from Alaska to Antarctica and all points in between. I'm a TV junkie, a DG addict, a marathon reader, an avid, amateur photographer, and a cranky old lady. This leaves me little time to be as creative as you all. Altho, I don't cook so that saves me some time. And as some of you know Chaos is the state my house is always in. Unless company is ctully due to pull up at the door any minute.
So nice of you to let me in with my cuppa in hand. Oops gotta run DS is back to work on the roof and I've gotta make like I do something besides sit here in command central, with the Daly Show on tv and you guys on the 'putor. That Joh Stuart knows how to cut in clips from the news. got me laughing. ~Blooms
Hello everyone. We woke up to 2 inches of new snow. It came down sideways durning the night and was still plastered to the sides of posts, shop, vehicles at laylight. More snow in the forecast through Friday. I'm done with winter, thank you very much, but it just keeps coming. Apparently my opinion means little if anything.... I see that it is snowing again.
Babs, your quote from the doggie calendar is good. Earplugs for the chauffer of said dog would be a good idea. Your hair appointment sounds very relaxing, all that message. Just don't go to sleep driving home. Good that you had a more reasonable shift at work after the wild weekend.
Lauri, how is your sore neck? I hope that pain is a distant memory.
VAnn, you get to be part of the audience for a change, good for you! Now don't sit there and count the beats, just enjoy the beautiful sounds. I enjoy watching everyone as they play, some of the body language and facial expressions are very entertaining! Good plan to have the FC board not all be elected at once. And good for you, seeing the potential for a problem before it became one in reality. Thanks for posting that Squash Cornbread recipe, it sounds so yummy, and I have lots of big butternut squash that need to be used up soon. I guess I could also make my old banana bread recipe with squash and use up some of them that way too. We've been eating squash at least twice a week for months, and I see that they are worth 99 cents a pound if I was buying them at the grocery store. I love baked squash, my hubby is not that enthusiastic about it.
Dcat, you are very ambitious, all that cleaning and now painting too. I got paint for one wall in the living room but haven't used it yet. There is a big bookshelf that needs to be emptied and moved before the paint can go on. Right now I am not doing anything like that because I am not supposed to twist while this adjustment gets settled in. So, the paint is still in the cans and the books are still on the shelves. Hmmm, what was last week's excuse? Oh yes, the weather was better and I was riding.
Yesterday I rode Breezy for a couple of hours, and then on my way home past the sheep pasture I noticed that there were two new lambs that looked like they were getting cold in the wind. I had noticed that the owner had his pickup hitched to his stock trailer earlier, and now it was gone, so I decided to call him when I got home and see if he wanted me to go put them in the barn. I left a message on his cell phone and then wondered when he would get it, and decided to just go do it since I had time before my chiropractor appointment. And of course it was 2 yearlings with their first lambs. One of them was only somewhat inclined to follow her lamb in the cart but I would only give her a passing grade on that because it took a lot of time. The other one was an airhead and I ended up taking her lamb to the barn and then bringing the little flock inside to sort them out until I had just her and one other ewe that she was stuck to like glue! I left them in the open area of the barn, took her lamb out of the pen where I had put it to keep the other sheep from trampling it, and left. Owner came a couple of hours later and saw the sheep before he got the phone message, so it was good that I took care of them. He called to thank me.
This morning my farrier came to shoe 2 horses, he managed to find a little patch of bare ground where the snow had melted so he worked there. I wondered how he kept his fingers functional in the wind and 35 degrees, without gloves, and with mostly metal tools. You know how cold metal feels on a cold day. Probably next time he comes the weather will be so hot that he will be looking for a shady place to work. That will be in May My horses get new shoes every 8 weeks and sometimes they are almost worn out when they are replaced. It takes a lot of miles to wear away steel that is about 1/2 inch thick but they are replaced that often to keep the toes from getting too long causing the horse to stumble. The hoof keeps growing and is protected from wear by the shoe but without shoes they get sorefooted.
Yesterday when I got another chiro adjustment there were lots of pops and cracks all the way from my lower back to my neck, and a few additional instructions. I hope things stay in place this time. Everything was about like it had been before I went the first time and so I asked more questions. Meanwhile, I am being very careful how I move. My hip has popped a few times, that is new, not sure if it is a good or bad sign. My muscles aren't very sore, really I am no more achey after the adjustment than I was before. Mostly it is my lower back that is uncomfortable. I won't ride until maybe Saturday.
The patch of tiny pruple iris reticulata is not even visable today under the snow. Late yesterday I noticed that there was more than one in bloom. Why are they so early this year? I don't even have a crocus blooming yet. According to the weather channel we are about 14 degrees cooler than a normal year. Global warming, where are you?
Almost all of our major appliances came from Sears. I hope they last because we do not buy the extended warranty. I have always associated the Bosch name with mixers, hmmm, have to go look on the internet and see what else they make.
Time to do laundry and think about what dinner is going to be. Have a great day/evening. ~~~ waves to all I missed this time around.
M5. LOL, My DH was very neat about his clothes but our sons did not take after him in that respect, so I did to them exactly what you did with Hubby numero uno, it worked and if anyone in the family asked me where such and such is concerning their clothes. my stock answer was, I did not wear it, would not fit me any how. I am glad you are thinking of gettina Borsch Refrdg, They are suppose to be the best.
I am just the opposite from you, Babs, I thoroughly dislike anyone washing or touching my hair it makes me extremely nervous and antsy.
Thanks for the recipe, Ann, I printed it it and will make soon, sound yummy
Sun came out at noon, and is lovely right now Temp.s 55' but it is getting cooler.
Cold winds and warm winds are in a fierce battle, we know who will win !!
Yes, Ann Samson is still scratching his ears but he is getting very wise, sitting in front of me he starts scratching his ear but of course it is the cone, what that means " please scratch my ear" lol
Yes, Elaine he drools too and when he comes up to me as I sit here the cone empties it to my lap, yuk lol. When there was lots of snow and Ice he chomped it constantly. Now he has to be happy with just water, he won't take an ice cube lol
His cone has to be on him till Sunday !
McCool, you are further west from here, we do have hurricanes not often but when we have one watch out, terrible demage every where
This has taken me quite a while, had a few interruptions, sun has gone down and temp is now 50', not bad!
where is everybody, lol I am answering myself??
Hi all,
Maria, thanks so much for offering to try to identify the glassware. Hopefully, DH will be able to take some photos of it tomorrow (if, in fact, at least one of us remembers!) It appears that Samson must have gotten Kota's message and is starting to let you know that he needs special attention, treats, etc. to help him deal with the vile contraption.
D'cat, hope the bruising was slight and will fade quickly. Please be careful on that ladder! If you have any of that ambition to share, please send some my way. I expect to be shipping your candle order on Friday, since you said you weren't in any rush. I had two rush orders for gift baskets today, so had to give them priority. I hope that both your DM and DMIL are doing well tonight.
I also have orders for four custom bracelets that came in last week ---- hope to get them all finished tomorrow as well as taking care of a jewelry "student" who's supposed to be coming in tomorrow. Just remembered that she was supposed to call me this evening before closing but failed to do so. She's a really nice woman, but not exactly dependable.
I got a kick out of all of you jockeying for the priveledge of being first poster (or ninth) on this thread this morning. For a change I could have beat all of you if I'd thought of it. Had one of "those" nights. Woke up at about twenty past four, possiblly because I was way too hot, and that was that. I was busy cleaning the cat litter at 4:30 and should have just stayed up and gotten a little more work done (except I somehow managed to wake DH who usually sleeps like the proverbial log if he's taken an antihistamine). Went back to bed and listened to the rain for awhile. Pushed the covers off, pulled them back up ---- all that fun stuff.
V-ann, you sure are one busy person. Are you sure you're really retired? Hope you enjoy being in the audience for a concert for a change. How's your DH doing?
sarv and M5, I'm definitely with you on the subject of house cleaning! I never was too good at it and until we get a lot more stuff out of the way, I'm on strike. I do still like to cook most of the time, though. DH does all the laundry most of the time and I have few complaints on that score (except that he usually leaves my underwear in a pile on top of the washer instead of hanging it up).
Hi Mary, you're another one who never seems to slow down, never mind stop! Sorry that Winter is paying you a return visit. We're expecting it this weekend. That was very good of you, watching out for the neighbors lambs like that. I'm glad that he called and let you know that he appreciated it. I had no idea that horses had to be shoed that often. That must eat up a good quantity of cash! I hope that your chiropractic adjustment lasts a lot longer this time.
Hi 101, hope you enjoy the next visitors as much as you seemed to enjoy having your brother there. Re: your DH throwing stuff around ----- it could be a lot worse. At least it sounds as though he does pick it up and set things to rights. Mine seems to think that his clothes (both clean and dirty) BELONG on my trunk, the floor, the filing cabinet, the bed, etc., etc. It appears that the only places they DON'T belong are his bureau and the closet.
Talking of DH, I just remembered a little episode from earlier tonight. I was here at the computer and he was upstairs. All of a sudden, I heard that scritchy noise of a cat trying to run so fast that she gets no traction and ends up running in place. Immediately thereafter I heard DH saying "Oh no, oh no! Poor catnik!" Apparently he'd just thrown the water he'd been soaking his foot in into the bath, not realizing that Miss Miceus was in there having a drink from the drippy faucet. Oops!
Hi darius, do you have enough room at Molly's to get back to doing any of your crafts?
Hi Blooms and hello to all the rest who usually stop by here. I'm about ready to go to bed and read for awhile. Here's hoping that everyone (including myself!) has a restful night.
Elaine, Samson fimally ripped of the cone, now I am very worried , I don't seem to be able to but it back but he was so happy he nearly knocked me over with joy, Foe a minute I thought he went out of his mind, He does not botherf himself right now where the stitches are so perhaps he will be OK, sheesh, am I ever worried.
Mc Cool don., t forget the pictures and look for a sinature there should be especially if it is a Heisey
Well, I have read it all, laughed, sighed, frowned, worried, and finally have it all sorted out.
No,I am not going to comment on anything. I am dead tired. After supper, I finished taking off the border and wall paper. Then decided that I would paint awhile. You know how one thing leads to another, well, I painted the upper portion of the walls. I have a chair railing, and I am painting the top part beige, and tomorrow will paint the bottom part. It will be a sort of burgundy, rust color. I have taken before pictures and will take after pics when it is finished. Since this is the last room, and I have been at this for a week or more, am anxious to get it done, and things cleaned and back in place. Since I painted the upper part of the walls, now the ceiling looks like it needs painting. So may do that while I am in this painting mode.
To those who asked, I am fine. I fell off a 3 step ladder, only bruised my shin, and it not too badly. I always have to have at least one mishap during housecleaning. 3 years ago, fell from a tall ladder, and broke my thumb, which resulted in surgery.
The gas leak at my DM's was more serious. A worker installing base board, broke a gas line coming into the house. The cut off valve at the propane tank was "frozen" and we couldn't shut it off. Called the gas company and they sent someone out to shut the gas off, and fix the line. I evacuated DM to my house for about 2 hours while the repairs were being made, and the house aired out.
DH decided that he would help me paint tonight. A painter he is not. I spent a lot of time cleaning the spills, drips, and oops after him. I read all the comments about clothing landing in unusual places. I will not even get started on that subject!! As it raises my blood pressure to dangerous heights.
Well, I am going to bed, hopefully to rest this tired body, and to rejuvenate it for another day tomorrow. Hopefully, if I don't have "too much help" I can finish tomorrow.
May be back, as I am checking some other forums before crashing.
Hi there - bedtime check in.
Defore, sorry to hear about your mishap but glad you weren't more seriously injured. Scary about the gas leak.
McCool, as Maria said, if your glassware is Heisey, most of it has a diamond with an H in it. But sometimes you have to look pretty hard for it and there were some patterns which were unmarked.
Maria, when we cleaned out my mother's house in 1993, I set aside representative bits of Heisey for each grandchild (4). My sister took very little - not easy to transport to Alaska and I took some pieces which I was interested in. I have a reasonable amount. The president of Heisey Collector's of America came from Ohio to Rochester with a U-Haul trailor and members of the local club helped him pack up what was left. Even they had no idea how much she had because it was squirreled away EVERYWHERE. He took it back to Ohio and it was sold at auction to Heisey collectors. After he took his commission, I cleared about $28,000 which I got invested before I told my mother's lawyer. He never did get his hands on it. Just before my mother passed away, my sister and I got the investment split between us and it became the bulk of my inheritance from my mother because everything else went for her care in the nursing home.
I enjoy using the glassware and have a number of lovely pieces. One which I especially enjoy though was a wedding gift to my grandparents - a large pitcher with a lid. Members of my mother's Heisey group never knew it came with a lid till they saw hers because so many of them were broken over the years. But while I enjoy it, I could never be the indiscriminate collector that my mother was. LOL
Maria, just keep an eye on Samson. Maybe he'll be OK w/o the cone. Let's hope so.
McCool asked how DH is doing and the answer is well. He's got healing to go, of course. Took it real easy today because he'd been a bit sore yesterday. He's not going to the concert tomorrow. Finds it a bit difficult to sit that long; so a friend is going with me.
I'll be heading in to the Food Cupboard tomorrow. Am prepared to tell successor the sit down and do what he want as I coach him and to take notes. I may also go in on Friday. One of the interviewers is moving. She lives down the street from me and they are moving from a large house to a smaller bungelow which they've had renovated. I stopped by today and there is a whole group helping to clean up the house being vacated. But there is also a lot of stuff to be disposed of. The new house isn't ready yet to live in as the kitchen and bathrooms aren't finished; so they are staying with their daughter for a few days. Anyway, March break is traditionally rather busy at FC - the kids stay home and eat - so they will need to have all the interviewer positions covered. That doesn't mean that I'm going to spend a lot of time doing stuff that I don't want to do.
Anyway, time to close down computer and get to bed.
Good night everyone.
Ann
Wow, Ann, that ss all that comes to my mind reading about your Heisy Glass, I would have loved to have seen the whole collection, what a treat that would have been like visiting a museum. Your mother's passion turned out to be a very fortuitous choice of any glass ware. I also think you were very smart to not discuss the glass with your lawyer lol good for you and sister.
I do hope Samson is going to be ok, tried to put it back on again, it took a while but I do not think it is as good a job as was done in the hospital
McCool have you thought of taking the glass you do not want to your Place of business?
Well heck, I had a bunch of replies all written and they went away. :(
So, I will just say I had a good day and leave it at that. DD's surgery is in the morning, so I hope I can sleep tonight. She will be fine, I am just a worrier.
I did call Kelly today since we haven't heard from her in awhile. She is OK, just really busy. Promised she would check in soon.
Here is tomorrow's daily, hope everyone has a peaceful night.
