2 new journal features

Warning before I get started: If you are not familiar with the garden journal, this post won't make a lot of sense to you.

I added a couple new journal features today. Both are big new features, and both have been planned for a long time.

The first is: Journal to Tradelist copy. Go to the View screen for an item, and you'll see a new option: "Copy to Tradelist". That will copy the common name, genus, species, comments field, and all pictures over to your tradelist, placing it in the category you choose, and giving it a "Not Available" status and zero offers available. This allows you to then edit the status and edit the offers, as well as get rid of any pictures in there you don't want, before it goes publically available for viewing.

Secondly, and a little more involved: Milestones. I've been planning this feature for a long time. Here's how it works:

First, go to your journal homepage, and click on "Milestones" in the "Main Menu" area. There, add some milestones that you'll want to use. The page will explain in more detail how to get started with this.

Then, go to the View page for the item you want to add milestones for, and then click on "Add a milestone". Select the milestone you want to add, select the date to which the milestone pertains, and then click Submit. The milestone will then show up on the view page from then on. You will, of course, have the option of removing milestones, in case you make a mistake.

It also has the added benefit of counting the days since each milestone occured. Very useful and neat! You can see milestones in action here: http://davesgarden.com/gj/dave/viewentry/4850.html

"Journal to Tradelist copy" Hmmm, but no Tradelist to Journal copy as there used to be and I was promised there would be again. Is this still planned?

Dave...'tis a little late in the season for me to be journaling now, anyway. Maybe I'll wipe the slate clean and start over again. A little this fall and full guns in the spring.

Don't mean to sound petty...I'm ill with cancer and typing all my info in twice was just too much for me. I really do LOVE having the tradelists and journal...it's what made me love this site in the first place and I thank you for it!!

Typing the info in twice is definitely abysmally slow and tedious for anybody. Since trading season is starting, the journal->tradelist copy took priority. Doing a reverse copy will be a lot easier now, since I'll just basically have to reverse the copy and I'll have the new feature finished.
