Suzi, I think you meant Sheila who is about to quit Sears, lol. I usually avoid that store.

Hi all,

sarv, calcium, huh? That's almost as good as DH's reasoning about ice cream, kettle popcorn, potato chips, etc.

So glad that everyone I "know" on DG has escaped any damage from the tornados. I know that we each deal with whatever scourge our particular area suffers from, but I still don't know how all of you can view possible tornados with equinimity! I'd be scared to death most of the time. That's probably one of the reasons that I'm a dyed in the wool New Englander. We have the occasional ice storm that can get kind of hairy, but otherwise -- very few earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes, floods (at least in my particular area), mudslides, etc., etc. (I probably shouldn't have said that since we're affecting the global weather patterns and who knows what will hit where next.)

Bonnie (Defoecat), a couple of hours after I spoke with you, DH brought in the mail and told me "You've got something from Kentucky." I swear, no less than a minute after that, I picked something up from the kitchen table (where I'd searched before) and out fell a little brown envelope marked "Butternut Squash"! Of course, the universe is laughing at me! Anyhow, thank you so much for the seeds and the card. You mentioned "acorn squash" on this forum, so I'm not sure which type you sent me. If it really is an acorn type, would you like some of my re-discovered butternut squash seeds? I'd be more than happy to send some. I plan to plant some of each.

It was quite warm here today and the ground outside is muddy and squishy for the first few inches, but still frozen solid after that. I just transferred some pea plants to the greenhouse today. They should be fine out there tonight, but tomorrow night we're supposed to be down in the twenties again. DH carried the electric oil-filled radiator out there for me and we'll probably turn it on when we get back from work tomorrow night just to keep the greenhouse above freezing. I'm hoping to plant some cabbage, cauliflower, and lettuce seeds tonight so that the seedlings can be transferred to the cold frame or greenhouse, then I'll get started on the tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, and maybe some flower seeds after that.

Spent part of today pullling stuff out of the crawlspace and doing a bit of research online. We have some rather nice glassware that belonged to my grandmother, but I can't actually match it with the pieces that I've seen on E-bay and other sites and have found that 1920's glassware has been selling for pennies if it sells at all. It's not really worth it to try to sell it, and my mother would rather just give it away to family members if any of them wants it. There are a couple of things that I really like, but none of us really does any "entertaining" so don't know if any of it will ever see the light of day again (at least during our lifetimes).

Maria, sorry about the mangled grass, but at least its grass and not your flower beds. Like everybody else has been saying, don't give up, this too shall pass. Samson will be just fine and the "cone episode" will fade away into old memories for both of you.

Hi darius. Thank you for the recipe. I haven't checked it out yet, but intend to sometime soon.

Molly, sorry that you have to go so far afield for your job, but since you've said that you hate to leave for an extended period of time, it still seems that the move was definitely the right thing to do. I'm so glad that it did turn out to be so positive! I've been following your "Changes" thread the whole time even though I haven't posted anything there.

Mary, glad you got some riding into your schedule.

Babs, thanks for the anti-skunk recipe. I'd always heard that tomato juice was the antidote. We now have a long-haired cat who is certainly a prime candidate to tangle with a skunk. Nice to know what to do if he comes home with a smell to match his "catittude".

Many apologies, but my poor old brain just can't keep all of this thread intact. I know there's a lot more that I should be responding to and many people that I want to acknowledge, but I just don't seem to be able to carry it all in my memory.

Oh yeah, Viola Ann, please do NOT wimp out! The supposed "manager" who took over your job is paid to perform. If he can't handle it , he shouldn't be there! I know that you know this already, since it's obvious that you are very much committed to seeing this program continue to succeed and to service the community. I'm already PO'd at this guy who's taken over and obviously hasn't a clue. My DH and I are not in the top % of money earners by any means, but we often buy the cards at the supermarket checkout to donate to the local food programs as we're well aware that many are very much worse off than we are.

I know that I haven't responded directly to many people on this thread, but I must plead too little time at the keyboard and too many years of lifetime. I'm still working for a living, and even if that wasn't the case, everyone I know who's retired tells me that they seem to have even less discretionary time available than they used to.

Since it was so warm out today, I took a walk around the yard to see what was going on and spotted the first tulips coming up as well as the narcissus that I divided last Fall. The hellebores and primroses look a bit "iffy". We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

Briar Rose, please take the time to make sure that you really have recuperated from the virus or whatever it was!

Went back to try to see who I might have left out of this response, but also took a look at this post itself and thought "Darn, it looks like I'm trying to write a novel AGAIN! So sorry! Good night all.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi everyone,

Just a quick check-in before bed.

Casey, sorry to hear about the friend you lost.

Sheila, not only has Sears lost a long-time customer, but you've told us all about it. And how many others will WE tell. A bit short-sighted on their part, I think. Maybe you should let them know that you've told us all about it.

Sarv, take a good book and enjoy the train trip.And especially, enjoy the show when you get to Chicago.

McCool - I would like to know more about the nice glassware you have. My mother got interested in Heisey glassware after my father died (1971) and collected it for over 20 years. She had a huge collection when we had to claen out her house. It's one example of a very high quality of American glassware made from 1896 - 1956 and it came in a very wide variety of colors and styles.

We have a crawl space too and when we bought the house it was our main storage area. When we added the kitchen in 1991, we put a full basement under it and gained lots more storage space; so these days, what comes out of the crawl space often doesn't go back. We are getting too old to creep around in it anymore. LOL But someday, I need to get in there again and see what is still left. Bet I could get rid of a lot more.

Good night all.

Ann

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Ann, Heisey Glass is very valueable, as an Antique dealer but not active any more, I always looked out for it and always loved it, so take good care of it.

It was kind of warm here today too, McCool, but no sunshine and yes the mud out there is awful that is why the horses di such demage in the lawn.
Try to takke some pictures of your glass ware, perhaps I can tell you or some one else what it is?

Well, I'm back, we didn't even get any rain out of the storms. They apparently were very very bad all around us, I want rain, but I don't want that. I am going to get out and water tomorrow. We are supposed to get down to 25 tonight.

The black kitty girl was back last night and I took a bunch of pictures of her. She got close enough to sniff my finger once but then took off. She is a very pretty kitty. DH says, 'what are you going to do with her if you do catch her' and gave me the 'look'. I said, I dunno,,,,,, LOL right!!

I had my cancer doctor and my PT today. I thought I had my appointment times right, 2pm for the doctor and 3:15 for the PT. So I got to the doctor about five minutes early, got right in and was back out in 10 minutes. Went to Dollar General to kill some time and got to PT at 3:05. Waited, waited, looked in my appointment book, and the doctor appointment was supposed to be 2:45 and the PT was 3:30. The doctor didn't say a word, that's a first. By the way, I am a 12 year breast cancer survivor and all my blood work was great. So, the doctor was proud of me and I am too.

My PT was painful because I have overdone it on the garden. What me??? Overdo in the garden???

She told me I need to give it a rest. LOL I said I would. We'll see. It is kinda sore. LOL

DD is having her thyroid surgery on Wednesday and is now getting nervous. She hasn't ever had surgery for anything and is starting to think, what if this and what if that. I still wish I could be up there and hold her hand. Thoughts and prayers would be appreciated.

Well, I better go get the daily done.

~~~~~ to everybody, I read it all, don't worry.
Hello again. My muscles are aching, and my a** is dragging. This house work is not for the faint hearted. And to think I have been thinking about doing a french drain in front of the driveway this year. I may have to rethink that project. And I am going on Friday to get horse poo for the new flower bed. DH's brother has a huge barn with about 10 stalls, and I want some of the stuff for a new flower bed. DH will furnish the truck and trailer, but no offer to help. Oh well, he hasn't offered to help with the house cleaning either. He probably makes as much dirt or more than I do. In cleaning today, decided that the hallway needs a new coat of paint, so will tackle that tomorrow.
Babs, sounds like you had a good work day, even if it was cool. Glad that you got the neighbor out, I am sure that he enjoyed the change in scenery. On Wednesday night give mum a big hug from me.
Sarv. So you are a techie now? An 8 hour train ride, please take a good book with you. That's the way I like to plan a trip, Delegate it to someone else to do!!. Works for me.
Susieq, yeah our weather is gonna change too, already cooler tonight. At least with cooler temps the tornados won't be as prevelant.
tgif, You gave me zone envy, already planting flowers. All I can do now is tend to the seedlings.
Viann, so glad to hear that DH is doing well. Glad you found the yarn you were looking for. Right now my crawl space is somewhat wet with all the rain we have had over the past 4 days.
BR, 3-4 weeks is a good estimate, especially if the food is good. What did your dad do about the skunk in the basement? Did he have to shoot it?
dmc, sorry I am sending our weather, minus the tornados your way.
Maria, weren't you afraid to open the door at that time of night. Glad Samson alerted you. You are going to have to set up a schedule, whenever you give him an ear scratch, say this is from defoe, or this is from meezer, or you get the idea. That way he will be grateful to more than one person.
M5, So that was the best Sears could do? Well, I certainly won't look at them the same. Will be very cautious about buying from them. So who sells the Bosch? I have an RCA, which was made by GE, it is good but noisy. DH worked for General Electric for 30 years, so all of you probably have a GE product, that has another name on it. They regularly made appliances for other companies.
Molly, the upper pink arms, and legs become you. So how long will you be gone on this job? Don't worry, Darius will take good care of everything.
Carat, thanks for the well wishes for DMIL. She is very excited to be coming home. I don't have a problem with pets getting in the toilet paper, but they sure do like to scavage in the trash can.
McCool, must have had a blond moment when I labeled those seeds. I haven't grown acorn squash in ages. Those are Butternut squash seeds. Sorry for the misinformation, I do that a lot, brain and hand don't coordinate. I know what I want to say, but had does something different. Oh, BTW, did you find your seeds? If you need anything else, let me know, I may be able to supply you. Only thing you have to do is question that they are labeled right!! Sorry about that.
Well folks, I'm tired, my arms are aching, it is definately time for me to go to bed. I plan on tackling the kitchen tomorrow, which requires that I take off wallpaper border, and wallpaper on 2 partial walls, and then prep for the painting. This room, combination of kitchen/dining room, will take a little longer than the general cleaning I have been doing. So in 2-3 days, I will try to post a pic of what I have done.
Goodnight Gracie.
Kittymom, that is a first. One time I got appointments mixed up and went a week early, They didn't say anything either. Sorry that the arm is sore, please take care of it, so you don't have future problems. I will be praying for DD and her surgery on Wednesday. Please post as soon as you know anything. Wish I could send you some of our rain. Have had about 5 inches since Thursday night. My crawl space is pretty damp, so went and moved some things there late this afternoon.
Well, this is it, I am going to bed.
Night All.
Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)
Defoe, no I actually was not afraid, I did not open the door at first but he had a bucket of grain in his hand, and I used to chase after our our cattle with one to get rhem inside the fence again, so I figurede ghe was after some animal. Then he called me by name and as I openend the door he told me about the horses.
Have had a lot more scarrier things happen to me then that, I just learned to keep my cool because of them.
