Another with 28 flowers, they will all be dead and gone without hardly having opened. They just get to full flowering and flop, down they go! What's new!
Spring Bulbs Pictures & Discussion: Part IV
I have decided to move but I had to dig them up because there was a changing of the guard in the home owners association. The garden friendly faction was ousted by the grumpy old ladies faction. The new board made us take out a flower bed we had installed on community property. They thought it was tacky. Some people just don't appreciate flowers.
I'm kind of glad I dug them up though because the spot actually had very poor drainage, despite being at the top of a hill, and the roots were not very healthy.
I love those Hillstars!!
Thanks kbaumle - and they smell great too!
Fancy.
Why the short crocus life, Wallaby?
I've been following these threads for ages. When do I get to join in? :(
All I have is horrid brown grass covered with frost. We've had very little snow cover this winter so I'm sure I'll have some losses. No sign of green anywhere yet....
Oh for a day of 38F! We've had 10F. I do see light at the end of the tunnel though, it does feel like winter is finally over.
Thank goodness for houseplants! :)
Sue
Steve nice daffs, I think I have some ice Follies. I have a large tub of mixed top breeds I got free with an order (paid post), there are some interesting ones in there, some nearly blooming.
Kenton the crocus hang around for ages, but by the time all flowers are formed it is just about time to die back. the sun needs to shine for them to open, and they are a sight when open in full bloom. Sometimes we just don't see the sun beofre they go!
Sue that sounds very cold, daytime temps? I guess time to consider myself lucky! That is difficult when others are getting it Sooooooo warm!
gosh so many beautiful pics.
Steve I just can't say enough about those gorgeous daffs. But now, not only I am jelous about daffs, I'm jealous about rain! Send some my way, lol. My doggie loves to go out in the rain, but the pitiful sprinkle we got this past weekend wasn't even enough to get his little ears wet. Need rain, need rain!
Janet, that crocus threesome is something else. I had never heard of them multiplying that fast. what do you feed them?
Gemini-Sage - L. laxa is an Iridaceae like Freesia and actually used to be "Freesia laxa". Now it seems to be in it's own genus. L. laxa is hardier but, sadly, is unscented.
Nery they could be C Flower Record (it's in the name!), the same as I have by my hosta bed, they had close on that many in their second year but haven't been mulched. Those are in a bed that was heavily mulched with my compost of leaves and grass cuttings etc, probably 3 years ago now but it feeds them and keeps them moist and the soil in good heart. I haven't fed them besides that. I'm surprised any are still there, the moles have a regular run along the grass edge, they probably aereate the soil! Some look a bit different though, I don't think I bought them with a name, could be C purpureus Grandiflora.
The three colours I bought just as 'white', 'blue', not sure what they labelled the other but they were large corms and I mixed them in a bag as it was a bag full for a price, they just happened to get planted together, they are a year behind the others but the soil not quite so good even though the beds are close, it has been mulched so they should improve. All plants love that compost, the tree has some use!
magnifique!
Pero hay mas....
Oh! Oh! I know!
'Abba' and 'Monte Carlo.' There aren't that many like them out there. Double, early waterlily-form tulips. 'Monte Carlo' (yellow) sported the famous 'Monsella.'
Lots of great pics, love the basalt boulder bed. Jealous of the spotty dracunc. I have a Muscari latifloia (a stray), but it seems to have set around and after a few years hasn't got any better. Also have Puschkinia libanotica, 7 years now and they go downhill but some seem to come back smaller, or set seed.
T. Zurel is lovely, not familiar with it. I have 2 types opened yesterday (Saturday), T. Johann Strauss
Oh so many cool pics! My puschkinias have just begun and more crocus coming every day. Still found more new sprouts of late planted daffs today! And 1 lonely winter aconite of 5 that were among all the Lowes 10 cent bags of bulbs. Tiny, but since I've never seen one besides in pics, it was still a joy. Just came a while ago from planting violas around some of the sprouting bulbs, so yay! there's more room in the cold frame.
we're so spoiled! thanks for the photos.
janet, love that form and the foliage. what's that in the background - - - sort of orange and yellow?
very close, kenton...they are supposed to be peony-flowering tulips. lilac perfection and strawberries and cream...but it's obviously yellow. still looking at my obviously messy record of things.
oh, the narcs are fabulous. we've been getting so much rain i've been snipping them and taking them in. i make a fresh bouquet for hubby's aunt almost daily. i'll "borrow" the collection and take photos later.
