Coffee and...For Friday, March 10, 2006 =^..^=

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, after supper, and cleaning the kitchen, went to the bedroom, more of a preservation of sanity for me, these basketball games are driving me crazy. Well, Meet the Falkers was on, hadn't seen it, and was glad that I retreated there. DS dropped by, GF is working till midnight, so he was bored. Then I read some of a good book.

101, no I don't clean all the time, just trying to get the spring cleaning done, so I won't feel guilty going outside and playing in the dirt and my house being that dirty!! |Why don't you come inspect my house, and say "looks good to me" then I would feel better about it. I would be in trouble though if you took your shoes off in my kitchen/dining area! The azelea festival sounds like fun. I can't wait for mine to bloom, they are always so pretty. While cleaning that bedroom, found a large shoebox of pictures I had stashed there. So I am not done with the photo albums. Off to Dollar General tomorrow to buy some more albums.

Oz, sounds like the summer has made plans for you. Good that you are able to help the neighbor with the deck. I wish I could do things like that. I am going to inquire if the technical school about 15 miles away has any wood working classes this summer.

Molly, gosh the paint makes all the difference in the world. It just sort of "stand out" really nice. That Black Knight butterfly bush is putting out new leaves, so I should be able to send it to you shortly. Pick out a good place for "him" I've sort of grown attached!! When he gets there tell him, I promise to come visist him!!

Bal, oh my gosh, I hope there is a bite of that cobbler left, it looks oh, so good. I don't care that it isn't homemade. Sounds like you got a lot accomplished today.

Maria, Please stop fretting about Samson. I know it is hard to see our pets sick or distressed, but believe me, he will get over it very fast. I didn't mean that in a harsh way, just don't want to see you stressed over something that in the long run is good. About the garden club, it is in the planning stages, but sounds like a lot of fun, and a way to share some hints and tips, but please, I don't want 500 people tramping on my property. Maybe one at a time, but that would look like a mob to me, and I would wonder what they had come for me for! LOL.

DR, please feel free to let us share some of your burdens at this time. You have always been there for any who had problems, or had sick family members, and your support has been very important to me and DH, and your prayers for DMIL. You've carried me for awhile, so just lean on us, and let us help you through this. We are all family, and when you hurt, we hurt also. I don't want to infringe on anyones belief, but I personally would like to know your DF's name, so that I can pray for him personally. Dmail me if you want.

Vann, glad that the DH got to get out of the house awhile. I know that it is so confining to someone who has been in the habit of being active. Tell him that the class is called "Slowing Down 101" Say he is in the habit of working 8 days a week instead of 10, so tell me what these other days are called, I need them in my schedule at times.

Mary, did you get that ride in today? Did the weather settle down any.

Well, I hope that you all have a good weekend. As far as I know we don't have any plans except to visit DMIl on Sunday probably. They are doing some more xrays tomorrow, and depending on what they show, she should be able to come home by the first to mid week next week. She is actually coming home to her house. A daughter is coming to stay with her for a few weeks. We are in the process the last couple of days, gathering and returning all her clothes, personal items, and health care items to her home, as she has been in the hospital, rehab facility at a daughter's house, with things scattered everywhere. That has been a chore. I'm off to check some other forums before bed, so (((hugs))) to those present, to those not ~~ at you.

Bonnie, it is Dick.
Thank you very much for your nice comments. But I did mean what I had said many times about your MIL. Parents are so important. Guess I have gotten old enough to realize that now. I know a lot of people don't get along with their parents but as said before, mine were always there for me, no matter what. Just want to be there for them in payback.
LIFE IS PRECIOUS!!!
This is one saying I have been saying for years and it sure is coming true!

Carol, bless your heart. I will also say prayers for your dad. You will be glad later for the time spent with him now.

Defoe, it is so good to hear she will get to go home to her own home. I hope it works out well for her she has been through too much.

Maria, Samson is special and will get over his aggravation with his cone. Poor Wile E had to wear a cone for ever it seemed when he had a cyst removed from his leg. He would get it off, get his stitches out and ....over and over. It was awful. I have some pictures of him wish I could find them. If I remember right, it was in winter and he had his coat and his cone on. He was not a happy puppy.

More leaves were cleaned out today, hooray, it is starting to really look like spring around here. The daffodils, crocus and then the grape hyacinths are starting to get little buds, the regular hyacinths are almost done. I picked a few of them to bring the wonderful smell into the house. I have a purple, pink and white in one vase. Very pretty.

I managed to get the inside plants watered, I want so much to get some seeds started. I was so late last year, it seemed things would never start to bloom. I have so many new varieties of morning glories that I want to start them early. If I get all done that I want, it will be spectacular around here.

Oh, a word of advice on pruning clematis. If you grab ahold of them without gloves, they are like sharp little stickers and will attack your thumb and slide right in there. ouch...LOL Got to use the hydrogen peroxide for my thumb as well as my watering today.

Indy was an absolute snot when it came time for his pills today. My goodness, I was about to give up. I swear we put that pill in his mouth 15 times and he would shoot it across the room. He got me on the forearm with a gouge that bled all over. And he only has back claws. You would think we had put some evil acid pill in his mouth. And then he went around saying ptooey for an hour. He is an odd cat. Remember when I said Cali was impossible. HA....we only have 12 more days to pill this guy. Oh boy...

Well, I need to go get caught up on the payroll breakdown for the spca for February. I have to send in the tax payment by the 15th and I haven't entered the checks yet. What do I do with my time???

I will get the daily up before I do that.

Hope everyone has a great night and a super weekend.

Make no mistake ladies I am not some kind of majic man. I do stuff because I do not know how to sit still. That does not mean it all comes out right. BUT at 66 I am learning to sit still. Our deck overlooks a large part of our garden. I surely love to sit out there in the mornings and evenings with coffee. Until about 6 yrs ago I never even noticed a garden except the grass. Grass has been a spot with me since as long as I can remember. All the rest of the plants meant nothing to me. Give you an example I grew up in St Louis about 4 blocks from world Famous Missouri Botanical Gardens. when I was a kid they had a large pond in the back of it and a couple other ponds growing things. WELLL to make a long story short I ahd been kicked out of there so many times for sneaking in to go fishing that they knew me by name. I was kikcked banned and threatened but never arrested. I went back there a couple of years ago during one of my go off by myself times ,when I go to St Louis just to get away for a day are so. It was the first time in my life I ever really seen the place. We all called the place Shaws Garden locally. It is the home of the The Nation Federated Garden Clubs of America.

Defocat---- I came from a family of do it yourselfers. You would about be scorned if you didnt do it. Further most of my friends are that way. So a lot of my doing is driven. This deck though is going to be a hard onb both of us to get it done by may. A lot more than my neighbor currently realizes. He is 69 and I am 66. He wants to tear off the old one and start over. That is not so bad. The new one will have a walkway down the side of the house about 35 ft that will be 7 ft wide. It will lead onto a deck that will be 40 X 24. A deck that size has to have a lot of very strong support. A lot of digging into very rocky soil that is back breaking. A lot of mixing concrete that is not so bad because I have a mixer. Plus removal of two fair sized trees.

I just lost a super long post. Grrrrrrrrr. Back later.

dmcdevitt, yes John carved it. It was not set up hard yet. He can sculpt any medium, it seems, without much effort. It is real concrete, though, not tufa. There actually is some moss on top of his head and there was a few strands of vinca minor hanging down, which I thought were really funny, but it was his joke and didn't leave them.
He poured concrete in a trashcan, and when had started hardening, he cut the botttom out and put it at its present location. Then he cut off the trashcan, taped it back together again, inverted it and poured more concrete into it and wired it down to adhere to the 1st half. He let it set overnight and then cut off the trash can again. Then he started carving it like you see in the 1st pic. It only took him about an hour to complete the carving after that.

woodspirit1,

I think it is way cool too! Put it into my garden diary as an idea for me later!! (Like I will ever be able to lift more than 10 lbs with this back and hand!!) Hope you don't mind - I gave you the credit, of course! Had to link back, cuz not my pics. What kind of tools need to do the carving?

~ Suzi :)

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

oh shoot, just anything handy, trowels, drywall tools, etc.

Moon Twp, PA(Zone 6a)

Thanks for the ideas! Told both DD that they get to help, but don't seem very willing! Now, IF only my back would cooperate! It is already messing up, cannot imagine what it will be like this summer when working in the yard! ~ Suzi :)

Rose, there is a thread over on the Healthy Living Forum about tumeric and art hritis. It apparently has some properties that also help avoid Alzheimer's and can cer.
I do not know how to create a link within Dave's Garden, but it should near the top of the list of threads there. I finally checked things out with a very knowledgeab le person at a locally owned health food store and she told me the amounts to take. That infor is also posted there.

Posting a link is easy. Just go to there, highlight the address in the address bar above, rt click to copy, go where you want it and right click to paste it.

It really isn't arthritis, yet...

I went there to read... ~ Suzi :)

Well, now I feel dumb. I didn't realize that you could add a link just like you would elsewhere. Thanks.
