New Blooms What's going on in my Garden Room today !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Laurie I got all my leaves down you gave me and all the Begonias ! I love those 2 oz. cups so very much ! Their excellent ! Thanks ever so much for them !
How's your un-packing and potting up coming along !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Laurie do you still have a lot of plants to pot up ? I know you got a lot. I think you brought a pretty plant home by accident that you gave me :(( And a baby pup of cool plant you were giving me. Robert must of carried them to the car when he was helping you :((
I do love those cups ever so much. I'm using them for suuckers and leaves :)) Thanks so much !

Silver Spring, MD

Allison, I love Midget Lilian. If you have a spare, could that be one of the plants that goes into my box?

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

I dont remember Ali, are you talking about he gloxinia? I took babies off for you last night and repoted them.
Maybe you are thinking of the Kohleria? I maybe confused you -that was a duplicate of one I bought for Lorry, but if you want it, I'll take the pup off and send the mom to you to grow out (it looks pretty ratty now after the travel -leaves got crispy, it looked so much better earlier in the trip!), just need Key's help in how to harvest the rhizomes. I cant remember what else I had - so many plants I cant even mentally catalog them all! LOL.

Here's a photo of the gloxinia sylvatica, is this it? This one can be divided again, it seems to spread by undergound runners like mint! So I'll take some more babies if anyone wants some.

I finally got all the babies planted up and I'm worn out. I unpacked all the violets last night and

Keyring, on the kohleria, it's awfully tall, if I cut it down, 1) can I root the cutting and 2) will it bush out?

HELP!

Nanna
I sold one last year and kept a leaf ! With this leaf I got Lorry and Jill's plants ! And when I separated theirs there was a tiny 1/4 sucker . So I planted it up in this tiny little one inch pot and put it under lights. It grew very fast filling and over flowing the pot before I could get to it. If I had not been so tired I'd had fixed one for Laurie. So a few days ago I did separate them and the little 1/4 sucker gave me three good size little crowns. I say ceowns even though the pot was over flowing with roots the way I had to take them apart there were no roots. Their all in their own little 2 oz. Dixie cup. So now I have one for me, Laurie and you :)) Not bad 5 plants from a tiny leaf. And a Special plant. I love Ethel Champions plants !
Nanna they are good size but no roots but if they root in time i will send one ! Or send one later !
I also have Lilian Sparkler do you want one or do you have one !
Laurie that plat looks like it but not sure. I know you were going to take a little pup off. And maybe the I maybe confused you -that was a duplicate of one I bought for Lorry? But it did not have a pup it was single tall plant with like fuschia , purple flowers.
Nut it's Ok I have too much anyways.:))

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

oh ok, you are talking about the kohleria, I'll remove a rhizome or pup and send the mom to you. It needs some rest I think, it's looking a bit sad at the moment.

Next box, LOL~ I want to send that kalanchoe to you also, they are in full bloom now.

I'm going to try and send boxes out on monday, geraniums to Spider, succulents and babies to Lorry, leaves to Makshi if she wants them etc.
Plectranthus to another very patient DGer who I promised them to a month ago.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh Laurie your so sweet. You don't need to ship me anything else I have so much already :)) Thanks though !

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

oh but I also have that vintage chimera I'm going to send you. You can make pups and send them out.

It's sweet but I'm not crazy about the color combo. I can't remember the name, oh yea, Silver Summit

Silver Summit (4933) 08/09/1982 (Eyerdom) Single chimera white star/blue fluted edge. Plain, quilted. Standard
Ok you twist my arm I'd love it :)) I like all colors ! Laurie did you other two boxes come today ? Were your plants ok ?

Silver Spring, MD

Allison, I would love a Lilian Sparkle. And I will keep my fingers crossed for Midget Lilian to be a good little plant and grow roots like crazy.

I think Silver Summit is beautiful.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Nanna, Ali can grow Silver Summit babies for you, she has the magic touch - better she have this vintage beauty and grow babies than me have it and not appreciate it! One womans junk is another womans treasure!
(not that I think this one is junk by any stretch, just love the other chimera Ali gave me better! =º)

Yup, Ali boxes are here, I'm still unwrapping as I type but they are soooo cold! with snow yesterday they must have been in a truck over night.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

And milky way trail is blooming too (white-ish pink blooms) what color is it supposed to be and isn't yours purple?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Supose to be white. Lot's of times my whites get green in them. I think not sure which plants but some of the white plants Sported to pink. Like White Madonna sprted to I think they names it Pink Madonna :))
Snow wow yuk. And your plants came a day late. They should have came yesterday with the others. I sure hope they will all be OK. They were special hand grown, picked and packaged :)) just for you.
Nanna the plant Silver Summit is a Chimera.
The Chimera I gave Laurie is Sunray Trail. Also a vintage trailing Chimeria . I'd say Rare you can't buy it from any vendor and I never see it on Ebay anymore. The reason I went crazy bidding on it. And second I like Chimera trailer best. I grew the baby from bloom stalk baskets :))
Nanna this is one of the bloom stalk basket babies while in a one inch plant ! Might be the same one Laurie has :))

Sunray trail bloom stalk babies. See the one way to the right ? They were all at least half that size. The sucker way to the left I did not like how it was growing I threw it away.

yup, that is how my sunray bloom looks (or will when it fully opens)

All the babies look good! they'll be fine. Here's the stand I got to display the babies on in my vintage pottery. (sent you dmail with this too)

Oh Violet., i love sunray. Could you spare me a leaf sometime?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

WOW they will look so nice :)) Will it be by a window ? There is no way to use lights is there ?

Lilburn, GA

Wow, Begonia, I hadn't noticed your picture. what a beautiful room!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Anna
It's a Chimera plant. You can not grow new plants by leaf. Only suckers or bloom stalk baskets . Cost me $53.00 for Mom plant that was just about dead when I got it.
I gave Lorry and Laurie a baby. I want a baby for my secret easter bunny pal in April. I have to keep a baby for me for insurance. As I have had problems with Mom plant and I don't want to end up with no plant.
It's a very hard to get Chimera. It can only be progated by sucker of bloom stalk baskets. which I did. I just got the plant last September and was lucky it gave me bloom stalk baskets !
Maybe in six months or more if I get more I can then sahre some more of them.
It grows very large it's a Standard Trailer :))
Do you know about Chimeras ? Check out our sticky please !
Sunray Trail (6475) 02/03/1987 (C. Sotkiewicz) Single chimera fuchsia star/white stripe. Light green, spooned, pointed, quilted. Standard trailer

Violet, I did not know it was a chimera. I do not usually like them a lot. I prefer the plain one colour flowers. Sunray does not have the stripes of different colours in the flower.

I loke to normal AVs better. Thank you for explaning to me.

Lilburn, GA

I looked at the photos again. I thought Mom plant was another type of plant. The babies do not have the stripe yet. What I liked was the baby flower. they sure look so different I got confused.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Spider, that photo isn't mine, it's from the catalog/web page. But I ordered it for my new babies, My SPECIAL Ali babies. I have a lot of vintage pots that I want to put them into (not plant, just slip them inside)
Here's where the new stand will go. (see the far right? there is a set of glass shelves? it will go under those shelves)

here's the shelf by it self, these are older photos and every square inch has plantlets and babies now! LOL!

Allison, in the photo you posted of your 'Sunray Trail' chimera bloomstalk babies, the one blooming on the left looks like maybe it sported (looks fantasy rather than pinwheel markings)? I wonder if its next bloom was true? Maybe that's the baby that Spider fell for....

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

OH yes the color's ran on it but all the others opened true. Every once in awhile there's part of a flower that one petal may be solid. but 99.9 percent are all white Stripes. :))
See this one bloom has one solid petal. This is normal . This plant is a heavy bloomer and at one time had about 4-5 dozen flowers and like I said 99.9 percent of them are all white Chimera Streips

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Did you know there are some Chimera plants that progate by leaf and bloom true stripes each time ? !!
Also last year one of the Av magazines had an article on progating Chimeras by leaf and if I rmember right there was at least a 5o percent chance of true Chimera bloom.
Also did you know for every hundred leaves set down from African violet plants to progate Sport .

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Laurie I love the glass Shelf. You could put a couple more glass shelves right above it :))
And now will the new ones go under neath ? You must have a big bed room ! Their going to be so pretty there. And trays to go on the stands how nice ! I can't wait until their all in bloom for you :))

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

He haw, no, my room is tiny! looks big maybe in the photo. But that's about all there is. The new wire shelf unit will go under the glass shelves so the babies will get lots of light.

I have to turn sideways to get into bed, my new metal AV shelf isn't that deep, but with propagation trays on it, they stick out a few inches and makes it even more narrow to squeeze in between. oh well, I love habing my plants to look at when I wake up. Like this morning, I just lay there and stare at who's blooming. Today its' Morning Thunder, Ellie Gardener, Wonderous Girl, Maggie Lee, Admiral, Woodland Sprite, Chinnok Wind (beautiful salmon!), Arapahoe, and my Chimera. First blooms on Genetic Blush and Pink Sensation too! (not all the way open but trying!)

Here's Pink Sensation (laughing at myself because when I saved it I typed the letter O instead of P and it came out Oink Sensation! LOL.

Here's Arapahoe, this one hasn't stopped blooming yet. I did pull buds for suspected thrips, but it came right back with more!
