Coffee and...For Thursday, March 9, 2006 =^..^=
Thanks, Susan.
Yes, it does help me.
I love information so every bit I learn, I feel better.
I am sorry to hear about your parents and I can very well imagine you miss them each day.
Sorry about those who lost loved ones both 2 legged and 4.
The Arbor is something I would enjoy doing and if I decide to do it I da-- well will do it. I have had about 30 minutes of actual welding training. I am self taught. The reason for that is because I own a 2 stall boat dock that is 32X32. It is a floating dock with a steel frame. Those frames break as well as other parts like the walkway and it cost a lot of money to have them fixed. I paid $400 for a welder and have done a couple of jobs on my dock. I am sure the welder has paid for itself at least two times over. One of the problems with a steel arbour is rust. I am not sure now that I can get it galvanized after I make it. According to my friend they will not accept work at the plant in Versaille from individuals anymore just bussiness. A arbour that size would weigh about 100 lbs as well. It is not over I am thinking about it if I make one will post a pic on here. We have another one tsmaller steel arbour 4 ft accross It sets over the walk where you enter the lower yard. We hang a few plants on it and I have 5 strings of tiny white christmas lights on it. Will try to post this pic today. This arbour we bought at lowes last spring. They only had 2. We got a lot of stuff in the yard. some home made some not.
I have had food poisoning since Tuesday and here I am up in the middle of the night, but faced with going to work in a few hours.
Tomorrow I will interview for a part-time job at our new library. Our archives is merging with the library when it gets to the new building, and since I have run the archives for the past 6 years, I really want to be involved in the transfer and for settling in of the archives for a couple of years at least. I have never wanted a job so badly. There are 2 things going against me. One is my age and the other is that there are so many applicants that some of them will have library degrees.
However, I am encouraged that they selected a few of applicants froma reem of applications to interview. Also, they called me to tell me the second they started taking applications. Pray for me, or just cross your fingers for me or whatever you do. I want this job. Badly.
Hi all
Carol~I'm so sorry about your dad's prognosis. There is so much more emphasis on effective pain management than there was when my mother died of cancer in 1988. I hope they will have a plan to alleviate his pain and give him the best quality of life possible. I will pray for strength and peace for your family as well.
9kitty~i'm sorry to hear you lost Ranger.
woodspirit~how about if I pray AND cross fingers? We're having a shortage of good news these days
Elaine~prayers for you - I'm sorry you are (or were last night) feeling blue.
defoecat~I'll cheer up! I'm just wondering if I'm crazy is all! I'll take another allergy - there are millions of things I don't care about at all, seems ironic that the one thing I throw myself into is the problem. I wonder if it's God's way of redirecting me? If so, well, He always wins!!
I started my tomatoes yesterday too, but *only* 144. (LOLOL) Like, seriously, how much acreage will I have plowed and ready? But once you start, it's hard not to be greedy! I did start some peppers too. sounds like you had a good day with your plants!
Dr- so sorry to hear about your dad - with all the new drugs on the market, hopefully they will be able to keep him pain free. A close friend of mine just lost her mother to cancer - it too had spread - At the funeral she told me they felt so lucky to have known she was going to be leaving soon. They spent tons of time with her going thru all her things - heard the story of where it came from and her mom was able to tell who she wanted to get it, get her affairs in order, and shed many a tear. - but they had the time to say good by. My friend was so at peace with how things went. Prayers and hugs for you.
Well, today it is a scoorcher here= 50 deg when I woke up, but cloudy and rainy. That's the warmest early in the morning that I can remember in a long time!! No big plans, but do want to take a garden stroll if the rain stops
Oz- why not try rustoleum for the rust?? We have a ton of stuff the DH has made here. He is a 'homemade' kind of guy. Loves to plan things out. Our only problem is he likes things rather rustic and I like things a little more refined. We compromise often...
wood- icky food poisoning- where did you get that? Good luck on the job interview. You know all the ins and outs of the library - they are foolish if they pass you by - a degree is just a piece of paper - you have the stuff in your heart to do a good job! Let us know asap how it goes for you!
9kit- sorry to hear about Ranger....
Glad you all enjoyed the rootbeer floats. DH got a chuckle out of me asking him to prepare extras. He still doesn't understand my fascination with this place LOL
Off to the huff/puff, the playing more with the new computer. I'm trying to send the rebate stuff in and can't find all the upc codes that I need - so frustrating!!
Maria! - you never told us Samson knew how to waltz! - or is that a rousing polka?!
He will be fine and life for both of you will be much better.
ginni
tgif, he certainly can waltz, lol
Hi everyone. Thanks for the condolences for Ranger. But Ranger isn't my dog, he is keyi's. I was just totally in love with him through all the posts she made on here.
I get very attached to all the animals on here like they were my own. But I am sure my pain isn't anything like keyi's.
If you want you can look at his story here. Don't go if you don't want to be sad, but I wanted everyone to have the chance to see his pictures and read his story.

Dearest Carol,
I'm so sorry to hear of the bad news about your Dad. I faced this same prognosis with my late husband who was given only three to six months. He was 72.
I hope it will give you a measure of comfort to know that we had Hospice care and he was able to stay at home which was so important to him. They also kept him without pain all the way through. Hospice doctors have greater access to pain medication because there is not a question of drug dependency.
I am an only child and this is a path I walked with my father, mother and then with my husband. Each time Hospice not only gave loving care to the patient, but supported me as primary caregiver so I never was overwhelmed and alone.
My prayers go with you for your comfort. I'm sure all the DG prayers that will be said for you will provide you with strength.
Pati
Oh Maria ... I know you miss Samson ... but now he will have *only* one girl in his life! LOL LOL I'm sending hugs to you. Give that guy a hug for me when he comes home.
Carol~ please know you're in my thoughts today.
Wood, I'm praying for you and that job!! Sure hope you get to feeling better quick.
DMC, so sorry about the allergies. Hope you can get those shots and they will help.
Susan, sorry about Ranger. Soooo sad. :-( Hugs to you and your family.
Okay, I'll try and come back. Too much to do and not enough time. I think that's what depresses me. I feel like I'm going round and round in circles. If y'all see me spinning around ... point me back to Ga ... will ya?
:)
... Elaine
Good morning, all. We are so fogged in here today that school busses are being delayed. Maybe that means that warmer weather is on the way? I can only hope.
Just read through all of yesterday's messages, and it's going to be a chore to try to address everyone, so if I don't mention you by name, know that I'm up to speed on happenings but don't want to write a book here!
Ann, if you go in to bail out your successor at the FC, set some guidelines beforehand, let him know that his daily records must be up to date, any hardcopy documentation need must be at hand, etc. so that you don't end up doing work he should have been doing all month long. He seemed to procrastinate on that sort of thing before you left, and he may well have let it slide since and will expect you to do the grunt work.
LOL about the flatware to take to work. DH takes leftovers to nuke there for lunch, and would forget to take out the assortment of forks, and spoons from his carryall that he drags back and forth. So I went to the Goodwill and bought extras, and moved the good stuff far enough away that he won't go get it.
Maria, regarding those fake emails, you can go directly to the Amazon site (Or whoever they claim to be representing) and get any information you need. You don't even have to call. Delete the email .
Ebay asks you to forward the ones pretending to be from Ebay to spoof@ebay.com, so they can track them but I don't know of any others who do. Are you feeling better?
Kooger, according to several friends who have either gone to Mayo or had family members go, the experience was excellent. Prompt attention, excellent care, and recommendations. The GF will get accurate and appropriate information from them. We wish her well.
McCool, see, if we all pull together we can get good results! Nice to hear that you had a much better day! For you and your DH, it's about time!!
DR, I'm so sorry to hear the sad news about your dad. As an old boss of mine once said, "They are never too old or too ill for you to be willing to let them go". I hope they manage his pain well and that his last days will be filled with family visits and conversation, he will appreciate knowing how loved he is.
And Susan, I share your sadness about Keyi's Big Red Dog. Ranger put up a good fight and had many people watching the thread and hoping that he would recover. I feel like you do when someone here loses a pet, and I shed tears for them, as if it were my own. We do know just how they feel.
WS, gaaack food poisoning! Whatever did you get into to get that? That is the most miserable assault on your body imaginable. And you with an interview coming up! They would be foolish to pass up your experience and background and hire some kid with a degree.
Even if you know the interviewers, stress your vast knowledge of the current library files and enthusiasm for the opportunity to make the transition to the new system and location. They aren't allowed to ask about health, possible pregnancies, etc. but you can volunteer that information. Like you won't be taking maternity leave or getting married, or moving away. That you are looking only to work for a couple of years to help make this transition, and then some Library Science graduate can take it over. Good luck, we'll be thinking about you and sending good thoughts.
Janis, make sure the kid knows that this is not a temporary reprieve, that you expect him to start a NEW attitude and keep it, and there is no turning back. It is not your fault that he's decided to act out whatever bothers him, it is up to him to control his own actions. He needs to know that he can't cross that line anymore. It's going to be tough for you, as well. Good luck.
My DD (older) has informed her sister that she will no longer take care of the two young ones, because of their bad behavior and language. She sent her an email, finally, and hasn't heard anything back. I said, "Welcome to the Bad Person club" Younger takes and takes but has no regard for anyone else. I'm sorry that she's made so many bad decisions in her life, but she is an adult and needs to face up to the fact that she gets herself into these fixes. Her sister shouldn't have to pick up the pieces for her either.
Off my soap box...and on to not looking out at this miserable gray day. ~~ to everyone I haven't addressed, you are in my thoughts if not mentioned specifically.
Have a better day....
Sheila
Good morning.
(((Carol))) I'm so sorry to hear that your father's cancer has spread. I sit here with tears in my eyes thinking of how much he is loved and how much he will be missed when he passes on. Meanwhile, it is not the quantity of life to be concerned with, but the quality, so be sure to contact Hospice to learn all you can about how they manage such cases of painful illnesses. It will ease your minds to know that he will have such good care. Your son is a sweet tender hearted lad, looking at the pictures and things your father has made for you, and remembering, also thinking of what lies ahead. So many his age would just go to their room and turn the music up loud and try to tune out reality.
WS, I hope you feel better immediately and that you get the job. Sometimes all the job postings and interviews are just formalities, required, and they already know who they want. I hope that somebody is you.
Kittymom, your sorrow over Ranger is no less important, even if he wasn't your dog, you feel it. Hugs to you too.
Maria, those are great pictures of your loving Samson. What music does he prefer for waltzing?
Oh, speaking of music, I got some great CD's this week at the thrift store, classicals, for about $2-3 each. I bought 5 and will check for more of them. Even if one turns out to be defective it is a good price for the rest of them. So, I have been listening and enjoying the nice music.
The weather is not too bad at the moment, but I am looking out at a white world again, it was 15 degrees this morning, now it's a wopping 20. If I go riding today it will be on Patch, he needs to get out of the pasture, probably I will just ride on the county road. They graded it the other day so it is soft, but firmer and better footing than out in the hills. Since I have ridden him less he has less wear on his feet, and next week I have the farrier coming to shoe him and Breezy.
Already my new team is making plans for who will be at the first ride, who is riding what distance, etc. A junior rider who is on our team has asked me to sponsor her, she is a good kid and I have sponsored her before. Junior riders (15 and under) must have an adult sponsor to compete. This kid did her first 75 mile ride when she was about 9 years old, her father had started out as her sponsor but his horse got hurt and he was pulled (DQ'd), so I took her for the rest of the ride. It is so nice to be with a team that works together, planning already to get the maximum number of points for the day, instead of no communication, no plan, nobody cares like the team I was on for the past couple of years. Actually, when I joined it they did plan and etc, but then the team leader got busy expanding her business and nobody else stepped up to lead the team, so we went from winning the team division to 5th the next year and 10th last year. I like to win.
AmandaPanda is sleeping on my lap, purring softly with a funny squeek that makes her sound like she needs oil. It's refreshing to have her being so mellow while I'm at the computer because otherwise she is jumping on to the keyboard and attacking my moving fingers. She was good all night too, didn't attack me until about 6am. She might have had some quiet play sessions during the night but I didn't hear a thing. I did wake up a bunch of times but went right back to sleep, no sheep counting for me.
Time to get the chores done, do some laundry and some housework while I wait to see if I want to go riding. ~~~ to everyone, back later.
Mary, of course it is a Viennese waltz what else could it possibly be for this Viennese? LOL
Edelweiss, edelweiss, every morning you greet me.....
LOL at Maria - change the music to some jazz...see if you can keep up! Speaking of dancing, it is all the rage in our town. They are offering lessons all over- I think in response to the 'dancing with the stars' program. I'd love taking them, but DH just snorted when I mentioned it to him. Sam will be back before you know it...
I went back to Office Depot as there was a rebate in my computer stuff and I didn't understand it. Talked to the same young lad with the bad teeth. He was so helpful!! Said it was for a printer, scanner, pic thing - all for 35 bucks with all the rebates I had. Now how could I pass that up. He told me the printer I had was a piece of junk. grrr when I got it, I was assured it was top of the line. Who am I to believe.... Also bought a computer book for dummies with loads of pictures....LOL I am a visual learner..
Did ya hear about the new chocolate that makes you lose 2-4 lbs a week! Where can I buy it!!
I am almost embarassed to tell you what naughty thing I did. After a very strenuous, sweaty workout, I cruised past McD and my car led me in and I got a pop and two cherry pies!!. They were gone before I was out the drive way. I am have awful cravings lately - if I didn't know better I'd think I was pg! LOL Sheesh, when I hop on the scale tomorrow I will be sure to be up!! DR/Val - help me- give me some words of imspiration...
Hi to everyone else- temps up to 57 deg now,but still cloudy and gloomy. Now they are saying 2 in of rain this afternoon. Get out the boat!
....small and white, clean and bright
You look happy to meet me
Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow
bloom and grow forever
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever
Thank you tgif to remind me of the country where I was born
This message was edited Mar 9, 2006 1:31 PM
I knew that tune would get you, but the "small and white" didn't seem to evoke an image of Samson! However, it is one of my favorite songs. I could watch "the Sound of Music" almost every day for the music and the beautiful scenery, as well as the message it gives about love, honor and belief in ones life.
ginni
Hello everyone. I was up early, but rushed out the door to go to the grocery. Wheew, glad that is over.
DR((hugs)), can't tell you how sorry I am for your dad's prognosis. It is never easy loosing a parent. You never feel like you have had all the time you need. Please try and spend as much time as you can with him before the end. It will comfort you later. Please know that you are on my prayer list, and I will continue to pray for him and that he is made comfortable to the end. I lost my dad so suddenly, and later wished that I had done more, gone to see him more, etc. Regrets are not easy to live with.
kittymom, even though it isn't your dog, we animal lovers "adopt" friends animals and love them the same. Hugs to you too.
101, hope that you have ceased going in circles, just breathe deeply, and say, I can do this, I can do this, etc. Wish I could come help you, then we could go in circles together!!
Maria, what lovely pictures of you and Samson. It certainly does look like you are dancing, and it seems that there is a smile on Samsons face, guess he liked it.
tgif, thanks for giving Maria's memory a boost, walking down memory lane is a beautiful journey.
Mary, hope that your ride goes well today. Just popped into my head, did you ever figure out what sheep count to go to sleep? This is bothersome, hope we get the answer before long. Glad AP is enjoying a great nap, squeaks like she needs oil, LOL
Sarv, my DH like the apple pies, everytime he goes, he orders 4, 2 to eat then, and 2 to bring home. Always joke with him that if I put apples on anything he would eat it.
Meezer, Hi! Sorry about the foggy weather, hope it clears for you soon.
Oz, what the heck, if Miss Boss doesn't want the arbor, just position it so she won't have to use/see it, and call it Oz's Exclusive Arbor.
WS, where in the world did you get food poisioning? I had it once and had to be hospitialized for 3 days with it. Thought I might just die from it. And good luck on the interview. Tell them that although you don't have a paper degree, you have a heart degree!! That may get their attention.
dmc, when will you know whether you will start the allergy shots? I started off taking 3 a week, then 2, then 1 then 1 every two weeks over a period of several years. They did help, but there is a possibility that you will see the present allergies diminish, only to be replaced with new ones. So you win a few and loose a few.
Hi Pattischell ~~~~ waving to you, glad to see you.
Well, DH is back from tax preparers, and needs some more information, so will go dig that up, and be back later to see what's going on.
Later,
Oh Sarv, you need a muzzle for your mouth LOL LOL LOL
A pop? Was it diet? I supposed not!
And 2 apple pies? Oh dear.
Next time get the yogurt and fruit. That will be better for you plus still some sweet taste.
But I understand. It is hard.
As for exercising. I always seem more like eating more afterwards and then you wonder why you don't lose weight. A losing battle except for the muscles you gain.
Yep, need to get on the scale tomorrow morning!
Shall do. Tho I haven't been eating much. I usually eat more when stressed out but just don't feel like it. Just keep thinking of the good times with my dad.
Later,Carol (DR)
Mary both our bulbs will probably just be glad of the blanket of moisture
blooms - not "naked" ladies- those are ladies looking for just the *right* dress for the Spring Ball. And you know how long that can take! Just wait, they will be the belles of that ball! Tulips can be even pickier about the right attire. But they all get to the dance in fine style!
Mary, Eastern Oregon is truly an amazing place. Freezing and snow at 11:26 and like magic at 11:35 the tulips are in full bloom. lol That run of tulips is sure nice, I like it.
Oh, Mary, I can actually hear the music playing! I love red flowers, especially this time of year. (well, really, I love *all* colors ) Someone once asked my Grandmother what her favorite flower was - she answered, whatever is blooming!! I agree with her.
When I planted these I had been digging up and cleaning out another flower bed. I didn't know what color they were but just planted them along the edge. You see there is an oddball in the group, and at the other end of the same border is this color, sort of like a punctuation mark at the end of the bed. When I look at these pictures I think it was a long time ago! And it was.
Oh thank you for the flower pics. I will try to get some pics of my crocus that are blooming. Only a few here and there, but spring IS coming.
Carol - (((hugs))) Hope your dad can get through this with a minimal amount of discomfort. Keeping your family in my prayers.
Maria - Sampson will be just fine. He'll back giving you kisses in no time.
Woodspirit - Good luck with the interview! Hope you get the job.
Sarv - Does your car go on auto pilot when you pass certain desitnations? LOL I'm not much of a fast food person myself. Cant stomach most of it anymore. I pay dearly for it later.
I have gotten a few seeds started this week, and hope to do tomatoes this weekend. Not sure I can keep up with you guys here though. We usually put out 12 - 15 tomato plants. Last year I only got one plant that I started from seed.
It's getting warmer here as well, but going to cool down again next week according to the weather channel.
I know I have missed comments, but have to get back to work. Have a great afternoon everyone.
Maria-hope you're not too lonely without Samson! Those are great pictures! We used to dress up my friend's golden (named Sam)in a spiffy hat and sunglasses and he would dance with us, when we we young and single....LOL...he was very handsome too! And a very good sport.
Thinking of you and your waltzing partner......
Defoecat---Well All the problem with the Arbour is she may be right. I am not sure it will really look like I want it to down in that area. But I am still thinking about it.
Sarv----- The truth about rustoleum is it is of limited value. I was intending on using 1in square hollow steel rods. You cannot paint the inside of those things but hot dipping goes right inside them. That place up there does a real heavy coat. I understand why they stopped. Ther is so much going on around here they do not have time for such small jobs. Another thing is that the more I think about it a 6 ft wide arbour should be pretty massive to look right. I think a metal one would look to spindley. Who knows what will happen. I decide to do it I cannot be stopped.
Here is a picture of our lighthouse. It is between 7 and 8 ft high depending on what side you standing on. It is made of pine but is totally overcoated with fiber glass. and fibglass mat. I put vents in it to make sure it does not rot out from within. 2 on the bottom and 2 on the top gives it postive circulation. Has a light sensor in it and turns on at dusk and off a dawn when we have it plugged in.
Hi All,

Maria, love the pic of you and Samson dancing. You make a great looking dance pair...
Mary loved your flowers I needed the pick me up today, Your teamriding sounds like alot of fun...
Kitty I am sorry you lost one of your fav dogs...I read about him and he was something
Any one I missed *waving* at you all now I'm going to let ya in on my day yesterday....
First He is O.K.!!!!!
I got a phone call at 8:30 from my sons work place wondering where is was because she said this was so not like him.He and his roomie work together. I tried to call and no answer so went to toss clothes on to go chew his rear. Got back to the living room and the phone rings his roomies mom says they have been in a wreck and she thinks they are o.k. so drive like maniac to get there 6 miles away and the car is totaled and they are bruised and banged up but o.k. or so they said. After I take him by his workplace and then head to his Dr. he says I'm having a hard time breathing and my chest/ribs are hurting real bad...straight to E.R. and from 9:30 to 3:45 we do x-rays, then Dr pokes him somemore and liver is very tender and they haul him off PDQ for Cat scans and thankfully all is o.k. He ended up with a sprained neck, bruised liver, shoulder, chest and rib brusing.
I saw the car today and about lost it OMG, It was a Dodge Neon and he was the passenger, the whole front passenger side was pushed to the firewall. The Dr said 5 more mph and they woould have been seriously hurt... Some one was watching over him. And yes he had his seat belt on always does..
Well hope all is good or better with everyone else....Must go dope him now....Lauri
Oh my goodness ... Lauri! Am so glad to hear he is ok! What a nightmare that had to be, though!
Oz, oh I *love* that lighthouse!!! As I'm sure I've already told y'all ... I collect them and my kitchen has a lighthouse theme. It's *really* beautiful! :)
Well, hi to everyone else. Am waving ~~~ ... but got to go back to the kitchen for now. :-(
